The 20-year-old has been a standout performer for Leicester City in the Championship this season, scoring five goals and providing seven assists in 26 appearances for the former Premier League champions.

Sunderland and AFC Bournemouth have already shown interest in the former Sporting CP winger, with Villarreal now joining the list of clubs monitoring his situation.

Villarreal believe the young attacker fits their recruitment profile perfectly, offering pace, technical ability and a constant threat down the flanks—qualities they are keen to add to their attacking options.

Reports indicate the Spanish club are prepared to pay around €30 million to secure Fatawu’s services, with the player currently under contract at Leicester City until 2029. Sunderland are also said to be willing to match that valuation.

While the proposed fee would represent a significant sum for a Championship side, it aligns with Leicester’s stated ambition to retain or sell only at the right price.

Meanwhile, Fatawu is expected to be named in Ghana’s Black Stars squad for the international friendly against Germany in March.

Otto Addo visits Leicester City duo Jordan Ayew and Abdul Fatawu Issahaku https://www.adomonline.com/otto-addo-visits-leicester-city-duo-jordan-ayew-and-abdul-fatawu-issahaku/ Fri, 16 Jan 2026 07:33:45 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2619943 Black Stars coach Otto Addo has paid a working visit to Leicester City stars Jordan Ayew and Abdul Fatawu Issahaku as part of his ongoing efforts to engage with players ahead of the 2026 World Cup.

Both players have been key contributors for the Foxes this season in the English SkyBet Championship. Issahaku has scored five goals and provided seven assists in 24 league appearances, while Ayew has also netted five goals and added three assists over the same number of matches.

The duo are expected to feature this weekend when Leicester City travel to face league leaders Coventry City at the Coventry Building Society Arena.

Addo’s outreach is part of a broader initiative to strengthen team unity and foster a positive culture among the Black Stars. He has previously visited players including Abdul Mumin, Mohammed Kudus, Kwasi Sibo, Ernest Nuamah, Brandon Thomas-Asante, and Mohammed Salisu.

The national team is scheduled to regroup on March 30 for a friendly against Germany in Stuttgart, with the final squad for the World Cup set to be announced on June 1. Ghana will compete in Group L alongside Panama, England, and Croatia.

Jordan Ayew and Fatawu Issahaku score in Leicester City win over West Brom https://www.adomonline.com/jordan-ayew-and-fatawu-issahaku-score-in-leicester-city-win-over-west-brom/ Mon, 05 Jan 2026 19:11:00 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2616325 Ghanaian internationals Jordan Ayew and Abdul Fatawu Issahaku both found the net as Leicester City edged past West Bromwich Albion 2–1 in a tense Championship encounter on Monday night.

Playing in front of their home supporters at the King Power Stadium, the Foxes made a bright start and were rewarded in the 18th minute when Fatawu Issahaku broke the deadlock with a composed finish.

West Brom responded with purpose and drew level before the interval through Karlan Grant, who clinically converted to restore parity for the visitors.

The second half unfolded as a tightly contested affair, with both sides pushing for a decisive moment. Just as the match appeared destined to end all square, Fatawu struck again late on, pouncing to hand Leicester all three points and cap a spirited display from Martí Cifuentes’ side.

The victory lifts Leicester City to 12th on the Championship table with 37 points. They face Cheltenham Town this weekend before a challenging trip to the Coventry Building Society Arena to take on league leaders Coventry City, who feature fellow Ghanaian Brandon Thomas-Asante.

Ayew and Fatawu will be keen to sustain their strong form as they continue their push for inclusion in Otto Addo’s final squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Bournemouth line up Fatawu Issahaku as Semenyo’s replacement https://www.adomonline.com/bournemouth-line-up-fatawu-issahaku-as-semenyos-replacement/ Tue, 30 Dec 2025 10:59:17 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2614663 AFC Bournemouth are reportedly considering a move for Leicester City winger Abdul Fatawu Issahaku as they prepare for a potential January departure of Antoine Semenyo.

Semenyo is widely expected to complete a switch to Manchester City after agreeing personal terms, with negotiations understood to be progressing ahead of the winter transfer window.

The Ghana international has been outstanding for the Cherries since his arrival from Bristol City in 2023, scoring nine goals and registering three assists in the ongoing 2025/26 season.

His impressive form has attracted strong interest from the Premier League champions, who are keen to add the 25-year-old forward to their attacking options.

Bournemouth, however, are already planning for life without Semenyo, with Leicester’s Abdul Fatawu emerging as their primary target.

Sources suggest Leicester City could be willing to listen to offers in the region of £30 million for the 20-year-old winger, who has established himself as a regular starter at the King Power Stadium.

Known for his pace, direct running and ability to operate across the flanks, Fatawu is seen as a like-for-like replacement.

Bournemouth manager Andoni Iraola has previously praised Semenyo’s influence on the team, but has also hinted at having contingency plans in place, stopping short of dismissing the possibility of a mid-season exit.

When I hit it, I had no doubt – Abdul Fatawu Issahaku https://www.adomonline.com/when-i-hit-it-i-had-no-doubt-abdul-fatawu-issahaku/ Mon, 15 Dec 2025 09:03:00 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2610516 Abdul Fatawu says he knew he scored the best goal of his career as soon as he launched his shot from inside Leicester’s own half against Ipswich.

The Ghanaian took three touches to evade the attention of two Ipswich players before looking up to spot visiting goalkeeper Christian Walton a long way off his line.

Fatawu let the ball roll ahead of him before powering into a run and shot from the edge of the centre circle.

Walton was on the top of his penalty area 50 yards ahead of Fatawu when he turned to scramble back to try to make a save, but the ball cleared the bemused goalkeeper and bounced once before coming to rest in the back of the net.

The audacious strike sent the King Power Stadium into a daze of celebrations, putting Leicester 2-0 up and on their way to a comprehensive 3-1 victory over the Tractor Boys.

“I always try this from long range,” Fatawu told BBC Radio Leicester.

“It’s good that it went in today and I feel amazing.

“When I hit it, I didn’t have any doubts.”

From 65.2m out – which makes Fatawu’s finish the longest-range goal scored in the Championship since Opta began compiling records in 2013-14 – the only thing the winger was concerned about was when he could start celebrating.

“I was just waiting for it,” he said.

“I have scored a couple [of long-range goals] but this is different. I think this is the best one.”

Like any goal scored from such a distance, Fatawu’s strike was quickly compared to David Beckham’s effort for Manchester United against Wimbledon at the start of the 1996-97 season.

It went down as the Premier League goal of the season and is among the most famous of goals of its kind.

Fatawu’s finish made this strike an instant viral internet hit and will be the strike to beat for Championship goal of the season.

For Fatawu, however, it is what the goal means to the Foxes – a side that has stuttered on their return to the Championship after Premier League relegation – that he is most concerned about.

“It’ll give more confidence for my team-mates and I’m just just happy about it and hope we can keep going for more wins,” he said.

Abdul Fatawu Issahaku scores a stunner as Leicester City criuse over Ipswich Town https://www.adomonline.com/abdul-fatawu-issahaku-scores-a-stunner-as-leicester-city-criuse-over-ipswich-town/ Sat, 13 Dec 2025 21:45:00 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2610104 Ghana winger Abdul Fatawu Issahaku lit up the King Power Stadium with a spectacular long-range strike as Leicester City eased past Ipswich Town 3–1 in the English Championship on Saturday.

Under pressure after managing just four wins in their previous 16 league outings, Leicester responded with an assertive opening.

Bobby De Cordova-Reid set the tone inside eight minutes, unleashing a thunderous 30-yard effort to claim his third goal in as many matches.

Ipswich threatened a swift response when Jack Clarke tested Jakub Stolarczyk, but the Leicester goalkeeper stood firm.

Fatawu later drew a save from a well-struck free-kick before delivering a moment of brilliance shortly before the interval.

Spotting Ipswich goalkeeper Christian Walton off his line, the Ghana international audaciously lofted a left-footed strike from nearly 65 metres, a stunning finish that crowned an impressive first-half display and handed Leicester a commanding lead at the break.

The Foxes extended their advantage after the restart when Ipswich defensive indecision allowed Ricardo Pereira to square for Jordan Ayew, who calmly tapped in his fourth league goal of the season.

Jens Cajuste reduced the deficit in the 71st minute by capitalising on a misplaced goal-kick, but Leicester remained composed to close out the contest and claim only their second home league win since August.

The result lifts Leicester to eighth on the table, three points shy of the play-off places, while Ipswich remain fifth despite suffering just their second defeat in 11 league matches.

Fatawu Issahaku and Jordan Ayew will look to carry their fine form into next weekend’s trip to Queens Park Rangers at Loftus Road.

The duo, who recently recovered from anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injuries, have rejoined the national team for the crucial encounter, which takes place today, October 8, at the Stade d’Honneur in Morocco. Kick-off is set for 16:00 GMT.

Addo believes their comeback provides a timely boost to the squad, enhancing both depth and energy ahead of the final stretch of the qualifying campaign.

“I’m very happy for them. You can’t take it for granted to come back as strong as they are,” he said. “We’ve been observing them closely, and they’ve shown great fitness and form in their clubs.”

The Ghana coach also revealed that the inclusion of Seidu and Fatawu aligns with his long-term vision of maintaining a consistent pool of 30 to 35 players who can be rotated depending on form, fitness, and tactical needs.

“We are always watching, observing. Sometimes injury comes along, but I’m sure they will fulfil our expectations,” Addo explained.

After today’s fixture against CAR, the Black Stars will conclude their World Cup qualifying campaign on Sunday, October 12, when they host Comoros at the Accra Sports Stadium.

Playing at the Swansea.com Stadium, Leicester took an early lead in the 13th minute through Jordan James, heading into the break with a narrow advantage.

Swansea drew level in the 70th minute thanks to Adam Idah’s composed finish, but Fatawu Issahaku restored the Foxes’ lead just seven minutes later with a thunderous strike from the edge of the box, his third goal of the season.

The 20-year-old, who recently returned from a long-term ACL injury, nearly doubled his tally moments later when his powerful effort crashed off the crossbar.

The victory lifted Leicester to third place in the table, ending a frustrating run of four consecutive draws and reigniting their promotion push.

Fatawu’s impressive form arrives at a crucial moment for Ghana, as he has been named in Otto Addo’s 24-man squad for the upcoming 2026 World Cup qualifiers against the Central African Republic and Comoros later this month.

Fatawu Issahaku reassures fans over fitness after Leicester victory https://www.adomonline.com/fatawu-issahaku-reassures-fans-over-fitness-after-leicester-victory/ Sat, 30 Aug 2025 11:06:22 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2572946 Ghana winger Abdul Fatawu Issahaku has allayed fears over his fitness after being forced off during Leicester City’s 2-0 victory against Birmingham City on Friday night.

The 20-year-old, who has been in fine form for the Foxes, opened the scoring with a stunning strike in the first half before Ricardo Pereira sealed the win late on, ending Birmingham’s unbeaten run at the King Power Stadium.

Issahaku, however, sparked concern when he went down clutching his knee and was substituted for Wout Faes. Speaking to Sky Sports after the game, the Black Stars forward reassured fans that the issue was not serious.

“I am just going to say thank you to the medical team… it’s just a blessing to be back like this again and running again,” Fatawu Issahaku said.

“It’s a good feeling, and thank God. It’s just cramps, tiredness, match fitness—but getting there,” he added.

Leicester will be counting on Issahaku to maintain his form as the season progresses. He is expected to return to the starting lineup when the Foxes face Oxford United at the Kassam Stadium after the international break.

Fatawu Issahaku scores again as Leicester City down Birmingham https://www.adomonline.com/fatawu-issahaku-scores-again-as-leicester-city-down-birmingham/ Sat, 30 Aug 2025 05:26:48 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2572907 Ghana international Abdul Fatawu Issahaku continued his fine form on Friday night, finding the net as Leicester City secured a 2-0 victory over Birmingham at the King Power Stadium.

Issahaku, full of confidence after last week’s spectacular strike against Charlton, opened the scoring with a curling effort in the first half.

The 20-year-old winger latched onto a pass from youngster Louis Page before firing past the Birmingham goalkeeper to give the Foxes an early lead.

Leicester controlled much of the contest and eventually sealed the win in the 88th minute, when Ricardo Pereira struck to make it 2-0 and end Birmingham’s unbeaten run.

Issahaku, who has now scored in back-to-back Championship matches, was withdrawn late in the game after 87 minutes, raising concerns of a possible injury. The club is expected to assess him in the coming days.

After full time, Fatawu Issahaku was named the Player of the Match.

The Ghana forward will be hoping to extend his strong start to the season when Leicester travel to face Oxford United at the Kassam Stadium after the international break.

2026 WCQ: GFA explains Kwasi Sibo and Fatawu Issahaku’s absence ahead of Chad, Mali games https://www.adomonline.com/2026-wcq-gfa-explains-kwasi-sibo-and-fatawu-issahakus-absence-ahead-of-chad-mali-games/ Wed, 27 Aug 2025 10:36:54 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2571641 The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has explained the absence of Kwasi Sibo and Abdul Fatawu Issahaku from the 24-man Black Stars squad for the September 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.

Black Stars coach Otto Addo unveiled the squad on Tuesday, August 26, ahead of the double-header against Chad and Mali. The omissions of Sibo and Issahaku drew attention due to their recent form and fitness.

Sibo, 25, had been tipped for a maiden call-up after playing a key role in Real Oviedo’s promotion to La Liga and maintaining consistent performances this season. Issahaku, 20, has also impressed since returning from an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury, starting all of Leicester City’s matches so far.

GFA Communications Director Henry Asante Twum, in a Facebook post, said Sibo remains a strong candidate for future selection.

“Kwasi Sibo will get his chance soon,” he stated. “The technical team has been monitoring him and is impressed with his work rate. Although they opted to maintain the core team following recent performances against Chad and Madagascar, Sibo is on their radar and will likely get an opportunity soon.”

Regarding Issahaku, Twum explained that caution is guiding the technical team. “Otto Addo and his staff are pleased to see him back in action. However, given the circumstances surrounding his long layoff, they are cautious about rushing his return. The medical teams from Ghana and Leicester City have had extensive discussions and decided to give him time,” he said.

Twum also noted that the AstroTurf pitch in N’jamena, where Ghana faces Chad, may not be ideal for Issahaku’s first match back following his ACL recovery.

Ghana will play Chad away at the Stade Olympique Maréchal Idriss Déby Itno on September 4 before hosting Mali at the Accra Sports Stadium on September 8.

The Black Stars currently top Group I with 15 points, three ahead of Comoros and five ahead of Madagascar, as they chase a record fifth FIFA World Cup appearance. The team is scheduled to begin camp on September 1 in Accra.

“I trust his quality,” the Spanish gaffer said. “It was a fantastic goal that summarises very well what Abdul means for us.

“He has an extreme quality in the last third,” he added.

The Foxes entered the match under pressure after back-to-back defeats, but Issahaku eased nerves with a curling strike beyond goalkeeper Thomas Kaminski at the end of a swift counterattack.

Charlton thought they had rescued a point late on when defender Lloyd Jones headed home, only for referee Dean Whitestone to rule it out for a foul.

Tyreece Campbell then spurned another chance in stoppage time, heading over the bar, as Leicester held firm to hand the newly promoted Addicks their first defeat of the campaign.

Issahaku featured for 83 minutes before making way. His compatriot Jordan Ayew played the full match.

Sunderland explore move for Leicester’s Fatawu https://www.adomonline.com/sunderland-explore-move-for-leicesters-fatawu/ Tue, 19 Aug 2025 04:32:34 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2568668 Sunderland are exploring whether a move for Leicester winger Abdul Fatawu is viable as the newly promoted side look to continue their spending spree.

The 21-year-old Ghana international is one of the Foxes’ most valuable assets, reportedly valued at about £30m.

The Black Cats have held preliminary talks to formalise their interest but no bid has been made yet amid concern that a move could be too costly or difficult to complete.

Sunderland have already spent £141.5m in the transfer window, which is just short of Nottingham Forest’s £142m in the summer of 2022, a British record for a promoted club.

Their latest signing was the £9.5m acquisition of Paris St-Germain defender Nordi Mukiele, adding to deals for former Arsenal midfielder Granit Xhaka, winger Simon Adingra from Brighton and club-record signing Habib Diarra, who cost about £30m from Strasbourg.

Fatawu joined Leicester from Sporting Lisbon, initially on loan, and helped them win the Championship title in 2024.

He made a permanent move before their return to the top flight after Leicester triggered an option to buy him but missed the majority of the 2024-25 season with a serious knee injury.

Now back in the Championship, Leicester have sold goalkeeper Mads Hermansen to West Ham for about £20m, Wilfred Ndidi joined Besiktas for £9m and Conor Coady moved to Wrexham for £2m.

Everton enter race to sign Abdul Fatawu Issahaku from Leicester City https://www.adomonline.com/everton-enter-race-to-sign-abdul-fatawu-issahaku-from-leicester-city/ Tue, 12 Aug 2025 06:53:01 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2566065 Everton have entered the race to sign Ghana international Abdul Fatawu Issahaku this summer, as the Premier League club looks to strengthen its squad ahead of the new season.

According to Sky Sports News, the Toffees are targeting the talented winger, who currently plays for Leicester City.

This pursuit comes after Everton’s unsuccessful attempts to secure Southampton winger Tyler Dibling, despite submitting several offers.

Issahaku, who has four years left on his Leicester contract, initially joined the Foxes from Sporting CP.

Everton had previously tried to sign the former Dreams FC and Steadfast FC forward before his move to Leicester, but the deal ultimately fell through.

The 22-year-old missed a significant part of last season due to a knee injury sustained during an Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Angola in November.

Despite this setback, Issahaku has featured in Leicester’s pre-season fixtures and is expected to play a key role as the Foxes aim for promotion from the English Championship this season.

However, his future at King Power Stadium remains uncertain.

Last season, Issahaku made a major impact in the Championship, scoring six goals and providing 13 assists in 40 appearances, demonstrating the creative spark Everton hope to add to their squad.

I will be ready for pre-season – Abdul Fatawu Issahaku https://www.adomonline.com/i-will-be-ready-for-pre-season-abdul-fatawu-issahaku/ Fri, 30 May 2025 06:51:57 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2539799 Ghana forward Abdul Fatawu Issahaku has confirmed that he will be fit and ready to join Leicester City for their upcoming pre-season preparations.

The 20-year-old missed the latter part of the recently concluded Premier League season due to an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury sustained during Ghana’s 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier against Angola in Luanda.

Speaking to Leicester City’s media team, Issahaku expressed confidence in his recovery progress.

“I have been working so hard. My rehab has been very good with the physios, the management, and the players. Everyone has been so supportive of me. I’ll be ready before pre-season,” he said.

“I can’t wait to be back on the field, running again, fighting for the badge as always,” he added.

The former Sporting CP winger had an impressive start to life in the Premier League, registering an assist against Tottenham Hotspur on the opening weekend. By the end of 2024, he was ranked among the league’s top five dribblers.

However, Issahaku and his Leicester City teammates will now turn their focus to the English Sky Bet Championship following the club’s relegation from the Premier League.

Jordan Ayew and Fatawu Issahaku suffer relegation after Leicester City’s defeat to Liverpool https://www.adomonline.com/jordan-ayew-and-fatawu-issahaku-suffer-relegation-after-leicester-citys-defeat-to-liverpool/ Sun, 20 Apr 2025 17:57:03 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2527045 Black Stars captain Jordan Ayew and winger Abdul Fatawu Issahaku will be playing in the English Championship next season following Leicester City’s confirmed relegation from the Premier League on Sunday.

The Foxes suffered a 1-0 defeat to Liverpool at the King Power Stadium, a result that sealed their immediate return to the second tier after just one season in the top flight.

Leicester’s fall marks a stunning decline for a club that captured the Premier League title in miraculous fashion less than a decade ago. After winning the Championship last season to secure promotion, the club’s troubles began early in the campaign and only worsened.

Steve Cooper took over as manager from Enzo Maresca, who departed for Chelsea in the summer, but was dismissed in November after guiding the team to just two wins, leaving them 17th and narrowly above the drop zone.

Cooper’s successor, Dutchman Ruud van Nistelrooy, has been unable to reverse the decline. Under his leadership, Leicester have lost 17 of their 21 league games, managing only two wins. A 2-2 draw against Brighton & Hove Albion last week ended a winless run stretching back to January.

Ipswich Town, one of Leicester’s fellow promoted teams, along with Southampton, are also staring at relegation. If confirmed, it would mark the second straight season where all three promoted clubs return immediately to the Championship.

Leicester City still have five Premier League matches remaining, but their fate has already been sealed.

Fatawu Issahaku’s injury has affected us badly – Leicester City coach Van Nistelrooy https://www.adomonline.com/fatawu-issahakus-injury-has-affected-us-badly-leicester-city-coach-van-nistelrooy/ Sat, 28 Dec 2024 16:34:08 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2488382 Leicester City manager, Ruud van Nistelrooy has expressed how deeply Abdul Fatawu Issahaku’s injury has affected the team.

The Ghana international, who suffered a knee injury during the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers against Angola in Luanda, has been ruled out for the rest of the season.

The 20-year-old recently underwent successful surgery and is expected to make his return next season.

The injury occurred before Van Nistelrooy’s appointment as Leicester City’s manager, but the Dutchman acknowledged the significant impact of Issahaku’s absence.

“Of course, you need some luck. I think keeping our best players fit is crucial,” the former Manchester United coach said.

“Losing Fatawu to a cruciate injury just a week before I started was a big blow. It’s a massive loss for this team,” he added.

Before his injury, Issahaku had made six Premier League starts, providing two assists and establishing himself as a promising talent in the squad.

Leicester City will now prepare to face Manchester City at the King Power Stadium on Sunday, as they aim to regroup and continue their campaign without the influential winger.

Black Stars: Otto Addo visits Leicester City duo Fatawu Issahaku and Jordan Ayew https://www.adomonline.com/black-stars-otto-addo-visits-leicester-city-duo-fatawu-issahaku-and-jordan-ayew/ Fri, 20 Dec 2024 09:07:18 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2485844 Black Stars coach, Otto Addo paid a visit to Leicester City winger Abdul Fatawu Issahaku and his fully recovered teammate Jordan Ayew.

Fatawu Issahaku, who is currently undergoing rehabilitation, has been sidelined for the rest of the season due to a serious knee injury.

The 24-year-old sustained the injury during Ghana’s Matchday Five clash against Angola in Luanda as part of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers.

Unfortunately, this injury also rules him out of Ghana’s upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Chad and Madagascar scheduled for March next year.

On a brighter note, Jordan Ayew has made a full recovery and rejoined Leicester City after overcoming an injury he picked up during Ghana’s AFCON qualifier against Angola on November 16, 2024.

Coach Addo’s visit highlights his dedication to both the well-being and progress of national team players, whether they are actively competing or on the road to recovery.

Fatawu Issahaku’s ACL injury a big blow to us – Leicester City boss, Steve Cooper https://www.adomonline.com/fatawu-issahakus-acl-injury-a-big-blow-to-us-leicester-city-boss-steve-cooper/ Fri, 22 Nov 2024 07:08:37 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2474486 Leicester City manager, Steve Cooper, has reacted to Abdul Fatawu Issahaku’s injury, saying it is a big blow to the club.

The promising winger suffered a knee injury during the first half of Ghana’s penultimate 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier against Angola in Luanda and was withdrawn at halftime.

The 20-year-old has been diagnosed with an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury, a significant setback for both the player and the club.

Cooper, speaking to the press ahead of their game against Chelsea on Saturday, described the injury as a big blow to the club and the player.

“It’s not good, it’s a serious injury. He’s had an ACL (anterior cruciate ligament) injury that is going to rule him out for the rest of the season,” Cooper lamented.

“It’s a real blow, first and foremost for him, being a young player and having an injury as serious as what an ACL is.

“Albeit, it can be quite common in sports and in particular football, but it’s still a serious injury.

“For it to happen at a young age is a blow for him and a blow for us as well.

“He’s obviously a big talent and a young player, as exciting as he can be at his age, with lots to learn,” said Cooper.

Fatawu was instrumental for the Foxes last season, helping them gain promotion to the Premier League.

“It’s only a pause and we will make sure, as difficult as it is at the moment for him, that he comes back as a stronger player and person, which, with the mentality and character that he has, I think will be the case,” Cooper added.

Issahaku has registered 2 assists in 11 league appearances so far this season for Leicester City.

Fatawu was withdrawn at halftime after experiencing discomfort in his knee.

The 20-year-old took to Instagram to share news of his successful surgery, writing:

“All glory be to Almighty Allah. My surgery was successful, and I just want to tell you that I am okay and feeling good.

I want to thank everyone for your best wishes.”

Abdul Fatawu Issahaku to miss Leicester City clash with Ipswich due to groin issue https://www.adomonline.com/abdul-fatawu-issahaku-to-miss-leicester-city-clash-with-ipswich-due-to-groin-issue/ Fri, 01 Nov 2024 11:57:57 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2467198 Leicester City manager Steve Cooper has announced that Abdul Fatawu Issahaku is sidelined with a groin injury.

The winger did not feature in the Foxes’ Carabao Cup Fourth Round match against Manchester United, where they suffered a 5-2 defeat.

In a press conference on Thursday, Cooper provided an update on Issahaku’s condition.

“We’ve had a really good morning’s work,” he said. “Through the frustration and annoyance of how the game went, it’s been turned into a positive motivation for the next game, and that’s where we’re at.

“You pick a team that you think is the best fit to deliver a plan to win a game. That doesn’t necessarily mean the players who played last night won’t play again at the weekend or vice versa. We’ve picked up a couple of knocks this week.

“Abdul was not available for the game last night due to a groin issue. We had a few enforced changes last night, but just because we went one way last night, it doesn’t mean we won’t go a certain way at the weekend,” he added.

Issahaku has featured in nine Premier League matches this season, contributing two assists.

Currently, Leicester City sits in 15th place in the league table with nine points from nine games.

However, Cooper’s side is determined to climb higher in the coming weeks as they aim to establish themselves in the top flight.

The Ghana international joined the Foxes on a loan deal from Portuguese side, Sporting CP before the start of last season with an obligation to buy.

Issahaku played a crucial role in Leicester City’s return to the Premier League scoring 6 goals and 13 assists.

However, speaking on the Red Carpet of the Ghana Football Awards, the 20-year-old confirmed that he will join the club on a permanent deal.

Earlier this year, it was revealed that the club could trigger a €17 million clause if he plays 60% of games for the Foxes.

Despite being under a transfer embargo due to breaking profit and sustainability rules in the 2022/23 season, Leicester have decided to keep the promising winger.

Meanwhile, Steadfast FC will receive 50% of the value gained on the transfer once Leicester pays the €17 million fee for Issahaku.

Since Sporting CP bought Issahaku in 2022 for €1.2 million, the value gained on the transfer will be €15.8 million, to be shared between Steadfast and Sporting CP, resulting in both clubs gaining €7.9 million from the deal.

The Ghanaian talent has had an impressive stint with the FOXES, arriving on loan from Sporting Lisbon last summer.

Ruben Amorim, manager of Sporting Lisbon, confirmed the impending transfer, expressing confidence in the club’s ability to profit from talented players who may seek opportunities elsewhere.

“We will make money. Talented players who don’t adapt here will move to other clubs and give us added value, it’s our system,” said Amorim.

Issahaku’s journey began with Sporting Lisbon in 2022, following a move from Ghanaian club Steadfast FC, which stands to receive €7.9 million from the transfer fee, thanks to a sell-on clause.

Despite high hopes, Issahaku’s tenure at Sporting Lisbon didn’t meet expectations, leading to his loan to Leicester City at the start of the 2023/2024 season.

Abdul Fatawu Issahaku has a lot to learn – Leicester City manager https://www.adomonline.com/abdul-fatawu-issahaku-has-a-lot-to-learn-leicester-city-manager/ Wed, 24 Apr 2024 18:14:48 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2385471 Leicester City manager Enzo Maresca maintains a critical stance on Abdul Fatawu Issahaku despite his standout hat-trick in the team’s 5-0 victory over Southampton on Tuesday night.

While acknowledging Fatawu’s pivotal role in the win, Maresca emphasized areas where the player needs improvement.

The victory propelled the Foxes four points clear at the top of the Championship, putting them in a strong position for promotion to the Premier League.

Leicester requires only one win from their remaining two games to secure automatic promotion to the Premier League. Additionally, there’s a possibility of climbing further if Leeds United stumble against QPR on Friday.

Speaking to BBC Radio Leicester after the game, Maresca highlighted the challenges of nurturing young players.

“He’s young, and there’s still a lot for him to learn,” Maresca said. “The issue with young players is they can be inconsistent.

“I just joked with him that in the next two games, he’ll be on the bench,” the manager quipped. “Otherwise, he’ll start shooting from everywhere, since he scored!”

Fatawu’s impressive display included neatly slotting the ball for Leicester’s opening goal and curling in a shot from the edge of the area, showcasing his promising talent.

Abdul Fatawu Issahaku, who joined Leicester City on loan from Sporting Lisbon, has made 41 appearances, scoring six goals, and providing 12 assists.

Championship: Fatawu Issahaku nets hattrick as Leicester City thrash Southampton https://www.adomonline.com/championship-fatawu-issahaku-nets-hattrick-as-leicester-city-thrash-southampton/ Tue, 23 Apr 2024 22:02:45 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2384991 Abdul Fatawu’s hat-trick helped Leicester City take a giant step towards an immediate Premier League return as they ruthlessly ended Southampton’s realistic hopes of automatic promotion.

The Foxes need to win just one of their remaining two matches against Preston or Blackburn to go up, but their place in the top-flight could also be sealed as early as Friday if Leeds lose at QPR.

A cool low finish from Fatawu gave the hosts a deserved first-half lead against a Saints side that struggled to deal with the Foxes’ press and purpose before the break.

Southampton improved vastly immediately after half-time but they were overawed by the clinical Foxes, who doubled their lead through Wilfred Ndidi’s powerful header.

A stunning second from Fatawu followed, then the winger set Jamie Vardy up for his 18th of the season before the former England striker provided the assist for the Ghana international to complete his treble.

The victory moves Leicester four points clear at the summit and keeps them on track to amass 100 points.

While defeat leaves fourth-placed Saints mathematically capable of finishing the season equal on points with second-placed Leeds – who have hugely superior goal difference – a Whites draw against QPR on Friday or an Ipswich win at Hull on Saturday would be enough to consign the south coast club to the play-offs.

However, Issahaku, who played 65 minutes in the game has earned a place in the team of the week. The young promising forward had 40 touches and 70 percent passing accuracy.

Issahaku who joined the Foxes on loan from Sporting Lisbon will be hoping to keep his fine performance intact when Leicester City, who sit top of the Championship table with 33 points host Sunderland on Tuesday evening at the King Power Stadium.

The former Dreams FC and Steadfast FC winger has made a total of 8 appearances for Leicester City in the ongoing Championship season.

Abdul Fatawu: Leicester City promotion ambitions an ‘opportunity’ for Ghana winger https://www.adomonline.com/abdul-fatawu-leicester-city-promotion-ambitions-an-opportunity-for-ghana-winger/ Sat, 07 Oct 2023 08:34:58 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2303217 Ghana winger Abdul Fatawu says the chance to try and help get Leicester City back to the Premier League was a career opportunity he had to take.

The 19-year-old joined the Foxes on loan from Sporting Lisbon a day before the summer transfer window shut.

He has already played in the Champions League, but sees the move to England’s second tier as “an achievement”.

“Their journey is to go back to the Premier League. That’s a big opportunity for me to help,” he said.

“For me [joining] Leicester is a big achievement. When I heard they were interested, I was so happy because it’s been my dream to play in England.”

The Ghana international has so far featured seven times for Enzo Maresca’s side, and has started in Leicester’s past three Championship games.

The Foxes have won nine of their 10 Championship games this season to top the table.

Against Blackburn on Saturday he provided his first assist of the season for Wout Faes, a goal that set them up for a comprehensive 4-1 win at Ewood Park.

Fatawu says he quickly got excited by Maresca’s approach to football after first meeting the Leicester boss and added that he is thriving under the Italian.

“With what the coach has given me here, I feel so comfortable,” Fatawu told BBC Radio Leicester’s When You’re Smiling podcast.

“It makes me confident to do what I want.

“I like to go and try things. I like play with the ball, I always want to have the ball and run into space and create chances for the team.

“I thought if I play with him [Maresca] in this role, it will be a good way for me to improve.”

The Meteors booked a place for the final round of the U23 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers after beating Mozambique 4-1 on aggregate. A 2-1 win in Maputo and a Sylvester Simba and Daniel Afriyie-Barniah penalty goal in Kumasi ensured Tanko’s side progressed to the next stage.

Despite their win over Mozambique, the gaffer still believes the squad need the best players available and those who qualify to play for the team to be involved against DR Congo.

“Every player who is playing outside the country and is a Ghanaian qualifies for this team why not”, he said at the post-match conference at the Baba Yara Stadium.

“We want what is best for the country. It is not only about the local players but the foreign players. We just want to have a very good side both foreign and local. There is going to be a mix and hope we qualify to the AFCON.

“We have Abdul Fatawu Issahaku, Felix Afena-Gyan, Kamaldeen Sulemana and they all qualify for this team. Those who played in the Ghana U20 are also there.”

Tanko is hoping to qualify his side to the AFCON before thinking of qualification to the Olympic Games, a stage Ghana has not been to since 2004.

Haruna Iddrisu’s football club reported to GFA over alleged contract breach https://www.adomonline.com/haruna-iddrisus-football-club-reported-to-gfa/ Mon, 05 Sep 2022 17:54:36 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2159116 A football club owned by Minority Leader of Parliament, Haruna Iddrisu, has been reported to the Ghana Football Association (GFA) for allegedly failing to adhere to an agreement signed with Tamale Utrecht Football Academy in the transfer of Black Stars forward, Abdul Fatawu Issahaku.

The club, Steadfast FC, which competes in Ghana’s Division One League in December 2018, reached an agreement with Tamale Utrecht to pay 20% onward transfer fees if Issahaku secures a deal locally or abroad per documents available to Joy Sports.

Haruna Iddrisu owns Tamale-based football club, Steadfast FC

The agreement was signed by Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Abubakari Abdul-Daem.

However, following the transfer of the 18-year-old to Portuguese side, Sporting Lisbon, for a club record transfer fee of  €1.2 million, Steadfast has paid €110,000 instead of the percentage which amounts €204,000 agreed four years ago despite Sporting Lisbon paying the full amount to the club.

Efforts to have Steadfast pay the outstanding €94,000 proved futile, forcing Utrecht to report the matter to the football governing body.

Joy Sports’ checks revealed that the two clubs indeed agreed a 20% onward transfer fee, but Steadfast upon second thought decided against paying the amount as they felt it was on the high.

Sources claim Fatawu Issahaku was a minor and could not have signed a professional contract with Utrecht, thus, an onward transfer fee agreement is an illegality.

Officials of Steadfast, thus, decided to give Utrecht ‘any amount for their investment in the career’ of the 2021 CAF U20 AFCON player of the tournament.

Fatawu Issahaku was groomed by Tamale Utrecht

Other reasons picked up by Joy Sports were that the club paid an agent believed to be from Nigeria, whose identity is not readily available, over 20% agent fee of the transfer sum for facilitating the deal.

The club feels that is over 55% of the transfer sum paid to other parties as the GFA is also due 10% of the same amount and 5% Solidarity contribution, hence their reluctance to pay the agreed total sum to Utrecht.

Abdul Fatawu Issahaku was transferred to Sporting Lisbon last year for €1.2 million.

The first tranche of €550,000 was paid early this year, while the second tranche €650,000 was paid about three months ago.

Utrecht is determined to report the matter to FIFA if continued and will consider legal action at the Court of Arbitration for Sports (CAS) if efforts to receive payment in Ghana are unsuccessful.

Partners of Tamale Utrecht based in the Netherlands appear disappointed with the current issues, with many claiming their investment in football in Tamale is not appreciated.

Fatawu was subsequently named in the Black Stars squad for the 2021 AFCON in Cameroon.

The teenage sensation was handed starting roles in both legs during Ghana’s World Cup play-off against Nigeria.

Issahaku’s move to Leverkusen collapses https://www.adomonline.com/issahakus-move-to-leverkusen-collapses/ Fri, 28 May 2021 13:03:53 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=1965646 Abdul Fatawu Issahaku’s proposed move to German side Bayer 04 Leverkusen has been cancelled.

The AFCON U-20 best player arrived in Germany to complete his move to the club with his agent Peter Obiara Ejiasi and a representative of Steadfast FC.

Issahaku and his representatives of the club were hosted at the Lindner Hotel Bayarena but the club finally decided not to sign the U-20 AFCON winning forward.

According to German media powerhouse, kicker, Fatawu’s advisor, on Wednesday canceled the second and final date for sealing the deal with Bayer at short notice.

Allegedly because the agent may have wanted to meet representatives of Liverpool on the same day.

The latter was exposed because Fatawu had posted a video from his hotel room, during which a corresponding telephone conversation could be heard in the background, during which a meeting in Portugal was arranged for Wednesday afternoon. This meant that the Fatawu deal was in doubt for Bayer 04 despite their interest.

The advisor’s approach and actions apparently isn’t foreign.

The kicker also revealed that Fatawu’s agent has been speaking to clubs like FC Basel, RSC Anderlecht, RB Salzburg, Ajax, BVB and Liverpool since March to drive up the price.

However, new developments have emerged with Premier League side, Liverpool now leading the race to sign the enterprising forward.

The Reds are preparing a bid to sign the 17-year-old in the summer transfer window, according to a report by Goal.com

Issahaku has been impressive for his Division One League club, Steadfast FC in the ongoing season and is the only player from the lower division to be invited to the Black Stars ahead of next month international friendlies against Morocco and Ivory Coast.

Abdul Fatawu is a huge prospect due to his talent but the youngster still 17 years will not be eligible to sign a professional contract until he turns 18 on March 2022.
