The Black Stars have left Accra for Kumasi on Tuesday morning and will hold their second training session today before wrapping up their preparation on Wednesday.

Ghana is aiming for their 25th appearance at the continental tournament and hopes to clinch the trophy for the fifth time, with their last win dating back to 1982.

Vardy later had a chance to put Leicester ahead, but his shot was well saved by Tottenham’s goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario.

Wilfred Ndidi also came close to scoring, with his effort narrowly hitting the side netting.

Tottenham dominated the first half, creating several chances, but were unable to capitalize, resulting in both teams sharing the points.

Leicester will next face Fulham at Craven Cottage in their upcoming Premier League fixture.

Issahaku joined Leicester City after the club’s relegation to the Championship, initially on loan from Portuguese side Sporting Lisbon.

His impressive performance in the lower tier, where he scored seven goals and provided 13 assists, earned him a permanent move to The Foxes.

Last season, under the guidance of Enzo Maresca, Issahaku scored seven goals and provided 13 assists.

He showed significant improvement as the season progressed, with his standout performance being a hat-trick in a 5-0 victory over Southampton.

Issahaku is set to join the squad immediately for pre-season training ahead of their Premier League opener against Tottenham Hotspur on Monday, August 19.

The Foxes secured full league and international clearance for the transfer by activating the buy option in Fatawu’s contract with Sporting CP.

The 20-year-old Ghanaian international shone during his loan spell at King Power Stadium last season, playing a key role in Leicester City’s triumph in the Sky Bet Championship and their promotion to the Premier League.

Fatawu has now committed to a five-year contract with the club.

Last season, Fatawu made 43 appearances in all competitions for the Foxes, scoring seven goals, including his first career hat-trick in a 5-0 victory over Southampton at Filbert Way.

He quickly became a fan favourite among the Blue Army.

At the senior level, he has represented his country on 19 occasions, featuring in the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar, and more recently in the Africa Cup of Nations.

Abdul Ftawu Issahaku will reunite with his Leicester City teammates as preparations continue for the Premier League opener against Tottenham Hotspur on Monday 19 August.

The Ghana international joined the Foxes on a loan deal from Portuguese side, Sporting CP before the start of last season with an obligation to buy.

Issahaku played a crucial role in Leicester City’s return to the Premier League scoring 6 goals and 13 assists.

However, speaking on the Red Carpet of the Ghana Football Awards, the 20-year-old confirmed that he will join the club on a permanent deal.

Earlier this year, it was revealed that the club could trigger a €17 million clause if he plays 60% of games for the Foxes.

Despite being under a transfer embargo due to breaking profit and sustainability rules in the 2022/23 season, Leicester have decided to keep the promising winger.

Meanwhile, Steadfast FC will receive 50% of the value gained on the transfer once Leicester pays the €17 million fee for Issahaku.

Since Sporting CP bought Issahaku in 2022 for €1.2 million, the value gained on the transfer will be €15.8 million, to be shared between Steadfast and Sporting CP, resulting in both clubs gaining €7.9 million from the deal.

The 20-year-old played a crucial role in Leicester’s promotion, contributing six goals and 13 assists during his loan spell at the King Power Stadium.

Reflecting on the celebrations as City received the trophy, Fatawu shared his excitement, saying, “What a day! It feels amazing. I can’t put into words how I’m feeling right now, it’s just incredible. I’m so happy. I love to see the supporters happy because they are always here for us. I just try to add to the fun with my dancing!”

“This is a special moment for me in my career. I’ll never forget this day. We thank God for everything,” he added.

Meanwhile, Leicester City has reportedly exercised the €17 million buy option clause to secure Fatawu’s permanent transfer.

This move is expected to benefit Fatawu’s first club, Steadfast FC, co-owned by Ghanaian politician Haruna Iddirsu, which stands to receive €7.9 million from the transfer fee.

Steadfast FC had initially sold the winger to Sporting Lisbon in 2022 for $1.5 million, with a 50% sell-on clause included in his contract.

The Ghanaian talent has had an impressive stint with the FOXES, arriving on loan from Sporting Lisbon last summer.

In 39 appearances, Issahaku contributed six goals and 13 assists in the league, becoming Leicester’s second-highest assist provider, trailing only Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall.

Ruben Amorim, manager of Sporting Lisbon, confirmed the impending transfer, expressing confidence in the club’s ability to profit from talented players who may seek opportunities elsewhere.

“We will make money. Talented players who don’t adapt here will move to other clubs and give us added value, it’s our system,” said Amorim.

Issahaku’s journey began with Sporting Lisbon in 2022, following a move from Ghanaian club Steadfast FC, which stands to receive €7.9 million from the transfer fee, thanks to a sell-on clause.

Despite high hopes, Issahaku’s tenure at Sporting Lisbon didn’t meet expectations, leading to his loan to Leicester City at the start of the 2023/2024 season.

The Foxes need to win just one of their remaining two matches against Preston or Blackburn to go up, but their place in the top-flight could also be sealed as early as Friday if Leeds lose at QPR.

The former Dreams FC and Steadfast FC winger has made a total of 8 appearances for Leicester City in the ongoing Championship season.

The 19-year-old joined the Foxes on loan from Sporting Lisbon a day before the summer transfer window shut.

He has already played in the Champions League, but sees the move to England’s second tier as “an achievement”.

“Their journey is to go back to the Premier League. That’s a big opportunity for me to help,” he said.

“For me [joining] Leicester is a big achievement. When I heard they were interested, I was so happy because it’s been my dream to play in England.”

Fatawu says he quickly got excited by Maresca’s approach to football after first meeting the Leicester boss and added that he is thriving under the Italian.

“With what the coach has given me here, I feel so comfortable,” Fatawu told BBC Radio Leicester’s When You’re Smiling podcast.

“It makes me confident to do what I want.

“I like to go and try things. I like play with the ball, I always want to have the ball and run into space and create chances for the team.

“I thought if I play with him [Maresca] in this role, it will be a good way for me to improve.”

The 20-year-old joins the former Premier League champions on a season-long loan deal from Portuguese side, Sporting Lisbon.

The 19-year-old arrives at the King Power Stadium having been left out of the Sporting’s first-team plans this season.

“I’m so happy. This is an amazing moment for me, I’m happy to be here. For me, from looking at Leicester and how I felt about the coach, here is the best place for me,” he said.

“This was the best moment for me to join Leicester. I chose them because I think they can grow me and help me mature. [Enzo Maresca] told me about the plans he has for me and how he wants me to play – how he wants to help me in my football.”

Asked about his prospective debut for Leicester City against Hull City this weekend, he replied: “This is what I can’t wait for, this moment. This will be the best moment for me in my career.”

Fatawu joined Sporting in April 2022, after the Portuguese club beat off competition to sign him from Ghanaian outfit Steadfast FC. The youngster played in the Champions League for the club last season.

He was part of the Black Stars squad that took part in the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

Issahaku was also with the Black Meteors in Morocco for the 2023 U-23 Africa Cup of Nations.

The 20-year-old joins the former Premier League champions from Portuguese side, Sporting Lisbon until the end of the 2023/24 campaign.

Issahaku joins the Foxes and is subject to league and international clearance.

The pacy and enterprising winger after joining Sporting struggled to break into the first team of the side last season having joined them from Steadfast FC.

He made his senior debut for the Portuguese side against Rio Ave in August 2022 and featured in their UEFA Champions League campaign last term.

He enjoyed international success in March 2021 when he helped Ghana’s Under-20 team to win the Africa Under-20 Cup of Nations, where he was named player of the tournament.

At senior level, he has represented his country on 14 occasions, and featured at last year’s FIFA World Cup in Qatar.

Issahaku was also with the Black Meteors in Morocco for the 2023 U-23 Africa Cup of Nations.

Having ended the first half goalless, Abdul Fatawu Issahaku’s strike from the halfway line but could not hold on as Algeria got the equaliser late into the game.

The second half was more intense as they were actions on both ends of the field but the first clear-cut opportunity was presented to the home side who were awarded a spot kick.

Danlad Ibrahim was on hand to keep his side in the game as he pulled off a fantastic save to keep the game level.

Issahaku combined with Ernest Nuamah before lofting the ball from the centre-line past the Algerian goalkeeper to give Ghana the lead.

However, in the dying minutes of the game, Tanko’s side gave away another penalty. This time, there was no mistake as the home side scored to level the match.

The first leg ended 1-1 with the return fixture set to be played at the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi on Tuesday, March 28.

The Meteors booked a place for the final round of the U23 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers after beating Mozambique 4-1 on aggregate. A 2-1 win in Maputo and a Sylvester Simba and Daniel Afriyie-Barniah penalty goal in Kumasi ensured Tanko’s side progressed to the next stage.

Despite their win over Mozambique, the gaffer still believes the squad need the best players available and those who qualify to play for the team to be involved against DR Congo.

“Every player who is playing outside the country and is a Ghanaian qualifies for this team why not”, he said at the post-match conference at the Baba Yara Stadium.

“We want what is best for the country. It is not only about the local players but the foreign players. We just want to have a very good side both foreign and local. There is going to be a mix and hope we qualify to the AFCON.

“We have Abdul Fatawu Issahaku, Felix Afena-Gyan, Kamaldeen Sulemana and they all qualify for this team. Those who played in the Ghana U20 are also there.”

Tanko is hoping to qualify his side to the AFCON before thinking of qualification to the Olympic Games, a stage Ghana has not been to since 2004.

The club, Steadfast FC, which competes in Ghana’s Division One League in December 2018, reached an agreement with Tamale Utrecht to pay 20% onward transfer fees if Issahaku secures a deal locally or abroad per documents available to Joy Sports.

The agreement was signed by Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Abubakari Abdul-Daem.

However, following the transfer of the 18-year-old to Portuguese side, Sporting Lisbon, for a club record transfer fee of  €1.2 million, Steadfast has paid €110,000 instead of the percentage which amounts €204,000 agreed four years ago despite Sporting Lisbon paying the full amount to the club.

Efforts to have Steadfast pay the outstanding €94,000 proved futile, forcing Utrecht to report the matter to the football governing body.

Joy Sports’ checks revealed that the two clubs indeed agreed a 20% onward transfer fee, but Steadfast upon second thought decided against paying the amount as they felt it was on the high.

Sources claim Fatawu Issahaku was a minor and could not have signed a professional contract with Utrecht, thus, an onward transfer fee agreement is an illegality.

Officials of Steadfast, thus, decided to give Utrecht ‘any amount for their investment in the career’ of the 2021 CAF U20 AFCON player of the tournament.

Other reasons picked up by Joy Sports were that the club paid an agent believed to be from Nigeria, whose identity is not readily available, over 20% agent fee of the transfer sum for facilitating the deal.

The club feels that is over 55% of the transfer sum paid to other parties as the GFA is also due 10% of the same amount and 5% Solidarity contribution, hence their reluctance to pay the agreed total sum to Utrecht.

Abdul Fatawu Issahaku was transferred to Sporting Lisbon last year for €1.2 million.

The first tranche of €550,000 was paid early this year, while the second tranche €650,000 was paid about three months ago.

Utrecht is determined to report the matter to FIFA if continued and will consider legal action at the Court of Arbitration for Sports (CAS) if efforts to receive payment in Ghana are unsuccessful.

Partners of Tamale Utrecht based in the Netherlands appear disappointed with the current issues, with many claiming their investment in football in Tamale is not appreciated.

The Ghanaian youngster completed his transfer to Sporting on Wednesday after sealing a permanent contract from Tamale-based Steadfast FC.

The 18-year-old signed a five-year contract with the Portuguese giants keeping him at the club until June 2027.

Fatawu, who joins the Portuguese champions from the Ghanaian second-tier side, was presented at the Cristiano Ronaldo Academy owned by the club, before declaring that the move will help him attain his mission of reaching the top.

“I’m very happy to be here, it’s fantastic. They welcomed me very well,” said the Ghanaian youngster who raised eyebrows in recent CAF-organised tournaments.

“There are many differences between the football I was playing and Sporting CP. The move will make me grow more. Everyone has helped me, telling me what I have to do.

“I also promise to work hard to help the team achieve its goals.”

The highly-rated teenager was named overall best player after helping Ghana to win the TotalEnergies U20 Africa Cup of Nations tournament which was held in Mauritania last year.

Fatawu, who also visited the Jose Alvalade Stadium after signing the deal, was eager to praise Ghana football coaches for supporting his career.

“The Ghanaians believe in me and I had opportunities very early in my career. They made my dream possible and without that, I don’t think I would be here,” he said.

During the competition in Mauritania, he played all of the Black Satellites‘ matches, scoring two goals in the group stages to help his side win the title for the fourth time in their history.

In March 2021, after his exploits with the U20 side, he was given his first call-up to the Ghana senior squad for the clashes with South Africa and Sao Tome in the 2021 AFCON qualifiers.

Fatawu was subsequently named in the Black Stars squad for the 2021 AFCON in Cameroon.

The teenage sensation was handed starting roles in both legs during Ghana’s World Cup play-off against Nigeria.

The attacking midfielder is now hoping that his move will help him cement a place in the Ghana squad for the World Cup in Qatar later this year where they will play Portugal, Uruguay and South Korea in Group H.

“The World Cup is every footballer’s dream,” the youngster said, revealing he has spoken to his new teammates of the Portugal national team about the impending clash with Ghana.

“The World Cup is a very big thing and everyone dreams of it. I can’t wait to be there”, Issahaku said.

“It would be fantastic. I’ve already talked to them (team-mates about Ghana versus Portugal game at the World Cup) and it has everything to be a good game.”

Ghana will be making their fourth appearance at the Mundial in Qatar this November and Fatawu is expected to make the final squad for the global showpiece.

He beat off competition from Bechem United’s Kassim Mingle and Nurudeen Amadu of King Faisal.

Dr Ogum’s side was undefeated from the start of the season and throughout the month of November.

Asante Kotok, however, recorded one draw in the month.

He is expected to receive a NASCO Television set.

Meanwhile, Dreams FC loanee, Abdul Fatawu Issahaku has been named player of the month for November.

Abdul Fatawu, who is playing his first-ever season in the topflight beat off competition from Asante Kotoko’s Isaac Oppong and Accra Great Olympics’ Maxwell Abbey Quaye.

The 2021 Africa Youth Championship Best Player was in sensational form in the opening five matches of the season which were played in late October and November.

Despite being on national assignments midway in the month, the 18-year old scored four goals and won the NASCO Man of the Match award twice.

For his price, Issahaku Abdul Fataw will receive a NASCO Television and a personalized trophy.

The AFCON U-20 best player arrived in Germany to complete his move to the club with his agent Peter Obiara Ejiasi and a representative of Steadfast FC.

Issahaku and his representatives of the club were hosted at the Lindner Hotel Bayarena but the club finally decided not to sign the U-20 AFCON winning forward.

According to German media powerhouse, kicker, Fatawu’s advisor, on Wednesday canceled the second and final date for sealing the deal with Bayer at short notice.

Allegedly because the agent may have wanted to meet representatives of Liverpool on the same day.

The latter was exposed because Fatawu had posted a video from his hotel room, during which a corresponding telephone conversation could be heard in the background, during which a meeting in Portugal was arranged for Wednesday afternoon. This meant that the Fatawu deal was in doubt for Bayer 04 despite their interest.

The advisor’s approach and actions apparently isn’t foreign.

The kicker also revealed that Fatawu’s agent has been speaking to clubs like FC Basel, RSC Anderlecht, RB Salzburg, Ajax, BVB and Liverpool since March to drive up the price.

However, new developments have emerged with Premier League side, Liverpool now leading the race to sign the enterprising forward.

The Reds are preparing a bid to sign the 17-year-old in the summer transfer window, according to a report by Goal.com

Issahaku has been impressive for his Division One League club, Steadfast FC in the ongoing season and is the only player from the lower division to be invited to the Black Stars ahead of next month international friendlies against Morocco and Ivory Coast.
