The development follows a press conference held on Wednesday, April 30, where Dr. Ayine rejected claims suggesting he accepted pickups and campaign funds from businessman Dr. Sledge, implying wrongdoing.

He responded strongly, saying: “If receiving donations or a pickup for your campaign is thievery, then there are 276 thieves in Parliament, including the one making the allegation.”

In a statement shared via his official Facebook page, A-Plus denied ever describing the Attorney General as corrupt or a thief. He said the claims attributed to him stemmed from a fake Twitter (X) account impersonating him.

“Let me make it clear: I have never, at any time, accused the Attorney General, Dr. Ayine, of corruption or theft. That claim is completely false. The statements circulating originated from a fraudulent account using my name and photo. Though it appears verified, it is not under my control,” he clarified.

He urged Ghanaians to disregard the misleading posts and refer to his verified Facebook page for accurate statements, particularly those relating to his views on the sanitation levy.

A-Plus also acknowledged that although his own Facebook response to the incident was emotionally charged, it was not appropriate. “I accept that I could have expressed myself in a more respectful and constructive manner. I take full responsibility. As a sign of respect, I’ve taken the post down—something I rarely do.”

On the separate matter involving the National Service Secretariat (NSS), the MP denied any involvement in wrongdoing. He stated he had never received any payments or had any form of business dealings with the Secretariat.

He explained that his only connection to the issue dates back to November 2024, when an individual approached him for help clearing their name. As a media personality and business owner, A-Plus said he agreed to help the person get their side of the story heard.

“Those who know me understand that I stand by people in difficult times. Just as I’ve shown support to Finance Minister Ato Forson, I extended media help to someone who said he was wrongly accused,” he noted.

Calling for transparency, A-Plus urged Dr. Ayine to provide any evidence that contradicts his statements. He reaffirmed his support for the government’s anti-corruption campaign and stressed the need for civility and cooperation among public officials.

“The fight against corruption is a key pillar of President John Dramani Mahama and the NDC’s vision. We must all commit to this cause with integrity and mutual respect,” he concluded.

NPP denies approaching A-Plus for parliamentary alliance https://www.adomonline.com/npp-denies-approaching-a-plus-for-parliamentary-alliance/ Mon, 06 Jan 2025 08:23:55 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2490212 The General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Justin Kodua Frimpong, has refuted claims that the party has engaged with social commentator Kwame Asare Obeng, popularly known as A-Plus, regarding a potential alignment in Parliament.

In a statement, Mr. Frimpong categorically stated, “The NPP has not met with A-Plus, nor has it authorized anyone to convey any message to him on its behalf.”

The response follows remarks made by A-Plus on social media, where he alleged that the NPP, led by Kennedy Agyapong, had approached him with an offer to collaborate in Parliament.

According to A-Plus, the NPP’s proposal included an assurance not to contest the Gomoa Central parliamentary seat in the 2028 election.

A-Plus also revealed that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) had extended an invitation for a meeting, scheduled for tomorrow morning.

While expressing his inclination toward the NDC, he noted that his decision would ultimately depend on which party prioritizes his interests and those of the people of Gomoa Central.

“I will have to disappoint someone tomorrow,” A-Plus wrote, adding, “Deep down, my heart leans toward the NDC, but I will side with whoever provides the best offer for me and my people.”

However, the NPP has noted A-Plus’ deep thinking is of no use as they have not contacted him or delegated anyone to bid for parliamentary alliance on behalf of the party.

Why I led a protest in my SHS at age 16 – A-Plus reveals https://www.adomonline.com/why-i-led-a-protest-in-my-shs-at-age-16-a-plus-reveals/ Mon, 12 Aug 2024 12:46:25 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2432592

Renowned social activist, Kwame A-Plus, has shared how he led a massive demonstration  at Breman Asikuma Senior High School when he was just 16.

In an interview on Hitz FM, A-Plus stated that his love for political activism and his quest to be unique among students led to the protest.

He began his activism by creating a ‘Friends of JJ Rawlings’ group, in school just to taunt his headmaster who was a sympathizer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

The move led to his suspension but strengthened his love for activism.

Upon returning from his suspension, A-Plus said he led the first students protest about 30 years ago to address the lack of electricity at his school.

He remarked that, the institution was relying on a generator, which he and his peers found inadequate, for which he organized a protest that saw the entire student body marching to town.

The protestors made their way to the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), the District Chief Executive (DCE) office, and the Omanhene to demand a connection to the national grid.

This demonstration, he said, marked a rare occasion in the school’s history where students directly advocated for their needs.

The success of the protest nurtured him to become the infamous social commentator he is today.

Women were not created to work – A-Plus advocates https://www.adomonline.com/women-were-not-created-to-work-a-plus-advocates/ Mon, 12 Aug 2024 10:38:10 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2432495

Controversial musician and politician, A-Plus, has sparked debate with his recent comments on the role of women in society.

During a discussion on Hitz FM, Monday, A-Plus expressed his belief that women were not created to work and should not be burdened with both professional careers and the responsibilities of managing a household.

“I don’t believe a woman must work. I don’t believe women are supposed to take care of children at home and still work. Maternal duties are too much, it’s a full-time job, so I don’t believe a career should be added to it” A Plus stated.

In his view, men are supposed to be the providers and pay their spouses for their services.

“I don’t believe a woman must have three kids, wake up, take care of them, then go to the bank to work, leave your kids—no, no, no. It’s too much and women must be paid for that.”

When asked if he has implemented this belief in his own life, A-Plus admitted that while it is his wish, he is currently not financially capable of paying his wife for her services.

The only thing he can boast of, he said is joint tenancy enshrined by law.

A-Plus also revealed that, he is financially incapable as everything he owns belongs to his wife since he is not a materialistic person.

A-Plus’ comments have sparked conversations on social media, with some agreeing with his views, while others have criticized his stance as outdated and unrealistic.

Defamation suit: A-Plus apologizes to businessman https://www.adomonline.com/defamation-suit-a-plus-apologizes-to-businessman/ Tue, 14 May 2024 22:13:00 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2394954 Musician and social commentator, Kwame Asare Obeng, popularly known as A-Plus, has issued a qualified apology to Ghanaian businessman Hassan Zein following a defamation lawsuit.

In a Facebook post on May 14, A-Plus expressed regret for any damage caused to Mr. Zein’s reputation due to false statements made against him.

He clarified that he has dedicated his adult life to advocating for the voiceless and underprivileged in society and would never intentionally harm anyone’s image.

“It may interest you to know that I’ve spent my adult life fighting for the voiceless, underprivileged persons, especially women and children, and minority groups. However, I must admit that I was misinformed on this particular matter. I am grateful to you for the opportunity to apologize to bring finality to the matter,” the post read.

A-Plus acknowledged the distress and damage his false statements may have caused Mr. Zein and expressed his commitment to setting the record straight. He also offered to make amends if needed.

The apology comes after an Accra High Court ruling ordering A-Plus to retract and apologize to Mr. Zein for the defamatory publication made against him.

In December 2021, Mr. Zein filed a defamation lawsuit against A-Plus, alleging that the musician’s use of his picture along with defamatory comments on Facebook was intended to injure his reputation.

The lawsuit sought general damages of GH₵10 million and an order directing A-Plus to retract the defamatory comment and picture through the same medium used for the defamation.

A Plus and Feli Nuna trade insults on TV https://www.adomonline.com/a-plus-and-feli-nuna-trade-insults-on-tv/ Sun, 22 May 2022 17:29:03 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2117073 Two socialites have engaged in a heated argument over the role of a partner in a musician’s career.

Musicians A-Plus and Feli Nuna were among a panel discussing issues regarding the showbiz industry.

During the deliberation, the Off Da Ground signee was quizzed on whether her boyfriend invests in her career to which she responded in the negative.

A Plus, particularly, was among those who did not support Feli’s revelation about her significant other.

“Your boyfriend is rich but does not work in showbiz. So you’re going to look for someone to invest while your boyfriend hides his?” he quizzed on Saturday.

But Feli Nuna responded on Accra-based UTV saying; “Does what you’re saying make sense?”

She insisted that their relationship was strictly personal and had nothing to do with her showbiz interests for which reason he needs not invest in her craft.

However, the answer did not seem to go down well with the controversial socialite.

A Plus and Feli Nuna trade insults over boyfriend's role in her career
Musician Feli Nuna

“You have a rich boyfriend who is not willing to invest in your music. You went to someone else for money and the person suggested that he likes you and you get angry. Let me tell you what doesn’t make sense, it is that boyfriend you’re moving with. He is very f*#king boy,” he said.

This sent the whole panel into another frenzy and prompted the host to call for cool heads to prevail.

In response, Feli Nuna, who is currently promoting his new single ‘Towel’, indicated that she will refrain from hurling insults at A Plus’ wife because of the respect she has for him.

“I like your wife and I won’t stoop to your level to insult your partner,” she told him.

She added that her boyfriend even sponsored the shooting of one of her music videos at some point in her career.

“He is a proud poet and research scientist. He is bright and more intelligent than you. He supports me as a woman and a girlfriend but my job as a musician has nothing to do with him,” she added.

The others were artiste manager, Bulldog, pundit Mr Logic and Samuel Atuobi Baah.

For this reason, Feli Nuna been trending on Twitter.

Meanwhile, the head of her record label, Fuse ODG has reacted to the development.

According to him, the panel “has displayed how dangerous the creative industry space is for women in Ghana.”

“A man should have the right to want to have sex with the woman if the woman needs their investment? Proud of Feli for standing up & #IStandWithFeli” he tweeted on Sunday.

A-Plus breaks silence on how he lost BOST contract https://www.adomonline.com/a-plus-breaks-silence-on-how-he-lost-bost-contract/ Sun, 13 Sep 2020 13:17:27 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=1853507 Musician cum politician Kwame Asare Obeng aka A-Plus has revealed that he lost a Bulk Oil and Storage Transport (BOST) contract after he criticised the Akufo-Addo government.

The controversial singer said he campaigned for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) because he needed a change of governance and for the country to be better, however, he regrets this.

He explained to George Quaye on Joy FM’s Showbiz A-Z on Saturday that he is disappointed because the change he looked out for never happened.

“We wanted change, we believe everything that was been said, we believed it was not right for John Mahama to run a family and friends government. We believed that it was not right for John Mahama to have 87 ministers.

“They were too many and now we come and we have more than that. We live in a country where NPP and NDC are the same and it is the fact even though they don’t want to hear,” he stressed.

According to him the constitution charge government to provide a conduce environment for citizens.

“It is in the constitution that government must make me happy and give me employment. So if you come to power, you must give me employment, I must be employed.”

Last month, he told Joy News that there are too many criminals around President Akufo-Addo which makes the fight against corruption very difficult.

This, he believes, will dent the President’s legacy in nipping the canker in the bud.

“There are too many criminals around the president. Too many people want to use his government for their personal interest and it will affect his legacy.

“This is someone we have been with and helping the President protect the public purse by fighting corruption. Some people around him have decided to fight us; which very wrong” he opined.

He bemoaned the attacks unleashed on him in pointing out the ills in the current administration.
