According to him, the erstwhile Mahama administration solved ‘dumsor’ before it exited power in 2016.

Speaking on Adom FM’s morning show, Dwaso Nsem Tuesday, Mr. Twum Barimah said the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) cannot claim credit because the NDC was tirelessly working during the turner of former President John Mahama to salvage the situation.

He also quizzed the NPP to provide evidence of what their government did to solve the nation’s power crisis.

“After President Mills, all his successes make it look like they are the best at everything. The NDC administration was working to solve the dumsor crisis. The biggest problem at that time was electricity generation so we needed more power. The NPP should acknowledge the NDC even if they also did something to solve the crisis when they came to power.

We should tell each other the truth. The NPP should tell us what they did to solve the dumsor that they are claiming. Even as of 2016 before President Akufo-Addo was sworn in, there was nothing like dumsor. It ended before the elections, the matter has been solved and power was on,” he added.

NDC's defeat in 2016 election was like 'rapture' – Allotey Jacobs https://www.adomonline.com/election-2016-defeat-like-rapture-allotey-jacobs/ https://www.adomonline.com/election-2016-defeat-like-rapture-allotey-jacobs/#comments Thu, 07 Dec 2017 11:14:12 +0000 http://35.232.176.128/ghana-news/?p=740011 Central Regional Chairman of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Bernard Allotey Jacobs has said the party’s defeat in the 2016 general elections came to them as a shock.
In his view, no one in the NDC anticipated defeat given the numerous infrastructural projects that were executed by the Mahama-led administration.
Even more surprising was losing 16 Parliamentary seats in the Central region where the party had worked tirelessly and was certain about recording massive victory in the region.
“The 2016 election defeat was a sad day for the NDC; it was very difficult for me when at 2:00am I realized I had lost 16 seats in the Central region. It was very pathetic,” he bemoaned on Adom FM’s Morning Show, ‘Dwaso Nsem’ on Thursday.
Ghana went to the polls exactly a year ago today and elected Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo as the 5th President of the 4th Republic.
“Nana Addo polled 5,716,026 valid votes to beat incumbent President John Mahama who managed 4,713, 277”, Electoral Commission Chairperson, Charlotte Osei announced after the polls.
Nana Akufo-Addo recorded 53.85% of the total votes cast as against 44.40% recorded by then incumbent President Mahama.
The weight of the defeat sent shivers down the spines of the many NDC members especially then government officials who were certain of an NDC victory.
A year down the lane, the Central Regional Chairman of the NDC, Bernard Allotey Jacobs the leadership of the party in the region are still shocked by the outcome of the polls.
Though it was sudden and unexpected, Allotey insists they have had to accept it in good faith as according to him, ‘defeat is part of the political game.’
“NPP had a similar experience in 2000, but the magnitude of the [NDC] defeat in 2016 was massive,” he added.
This notwithstanding, the Central Regional NDC Chairman said they are re-organizing the grassroots to recapture power in 2020.
“Had I known is always at last; we have learned our lessons and we are working hard to win election 2020,” he promised.

2016 Election Results Mysterious – Rashid Pelpuo https://www.adomonline.com/2016-election-results-mysterious-rashid-pelpuo/ Sun, 07 May 2017 17:17:13 +0000 http://35.232.176.128/ghana-news/?p=106991 The National Democratic Congress legislator for the Wa Central Constituency, Rashid Pelpuo has described as mysterious results of the 2016 polls.

According to him, the NDC did everything possible to fulfill the needs in the country yet the people of Ghana kicked them out from power.

He made the comment on Citi FM’s News analysis programme The Big Issue, on Saturday in defence of former President John Mahama’s recent remark on the cause of the NDC’s defeat.

Mr. Mahama while speaking at the World Economic Forum in Durban, South Africa on Thursday, noted that he had an “incumbency disadvantage” hence his abysmal performance in the poll.

He also accused Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo of promising Ghanaians “heaven.”
“I knew what the economy could give the people and I told the people the truth that we need more hard work to be able to get out of where we are; my opponent promised heaven and you have the constraints of not being able to promise all the rosy things he was doing,” he added.

Meanwhile, Mr. Pelpuo noted that “this is one of the elections that have been very difficult and mysterious to understand.”

“You have a government that is responsive to the needs of the people, you have a government that built schools, they [Ghana] wanted roads, we built roads, they wanted hospital, we built hospitals, they wanted water, we supplied water, we did everything that was possible to ensure that the people of Ghana know that this is a government that is responsive and responding to their basic need and creating conditions for them to be able to develop themselves individually and creatively.”

“In the end the same people voted against us as if we didn’t do anything at all. We built and international airport harbours. It has never happened in the history of this country for a single government to even build about 50 secondary schools at a go within a space of four years… After doing all these things we thought we had touched the mind, the thinking and we are striking a chord with Ghanaians. In the end we got the worst votes that had ever been recorded since 1992,” he lamented.

Mahama loss by about a million votes to Akufo-Addo in the polls. The NDC also lost hold of a number of Parliamentary seats to the New Patriotic Party.
