The Adisadel College (ADISCO) celebrates its 116th Speech and Prize Giving Day tomorrow, March 14, 2025, with the Minister for Youth Development and Empowerment, Hon. George Opare Addo, serving as Special Guest of Honour.

Also the National Youth Organiser of the NDC, Hon. Opare Addo is expected to inspire students to dream big and achieve their goals, while addressing pressing issues such as drug abuse and rising addiction among Ghanaian youth.

Just ten minutes away, St. Augustine’s College (AUGUSCO) will host thousands of students and alumni for its 96th Speech and Prize Giving Day. The chairman of this year’s celebrations is the Member of Parliament for Akuapem North, and former NPP National Youth Organiser, Hon. Samuel Awuku.

He will motivate students and introduce an annual Game Changers Award recognizing excellence in leadership, sustainability, and governance.

Interestingly, both Hon. George Opare Addo (Pablo) and Hon. Samuel Awuku (Capo) were roommates at the Commonwealth Hall of the University of Ghana, highlighting a long-standing friendship that transcends party lines.

This weekend promises to be a vibrant one in Cape Coast as education, social life, and alumni pride converge, with politics taking a backseat to celebration and inspiration.

Medikal vows to make impact with ‘Red Means Stop’ campaign https://www.adomonline.com/medikal-vows-to-make-impact-with-red-means-stop-campaign/ Fri, 13 Mar 2026 07:45:27 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2640016 Ghanaian musician Medikal has pledged to use his influence to make a meaningful impact in the fight against drug abuse among young people following his appointment as an ambassador for the National Youth Authority’s “Red Means Stop” campaign.

Medikal made the commitment on Thursday, March 12, 2026, during a ceremony at the Ministry of Youth Development and Empowerment where he was officially unveiled as an ambassador for the initiative. The announcement was made by the Minister for Youth Development and Empowerment, George Opare Addo, in the presence of the Chief Executive Officer of the National Youth Authority, Osman Ayariga.

Speaking after receiving the appointment, Medikal said he was honoured to be part of the campaign and expressed his determination to help raise awareness about the dangers of substance abuse among young people.

He indicated that he accepted the role because he believes the initiative can have a lasting impact on the lives of the youth.

The musician also revealed that he would not receive any payment for serving as ambassador for the campaign.

According to him, the opportunity to support a cause that can positively influence the next generation is more important than financial reward.

Medikal said he intends to use his music, social media presence and public engagements to spread the message of the “Red Means Stop” campaign and encourage young people to stay away from drugs.

The campaign forms part of efforts by the National Youth Authority and the Ministry of Youth Development and Empowerment to address the growing problem of substance abuse among young people, particularly the use of the synthetic drug known as “Red”.

Through advocacy, education and partnerships with public figures, the initiative seeks to discourage drug use and promote responsible choices among Ghana’s youth.

Medikal officially named ambassador for National Youth Authority’s ‘Red Means Stop’ drug campaign https://www.adomonline.com/medikal-officially-named-ambassador-for-national-youth-authoritys-red-means-stop-drug-campaign/ Fri, 13 Mar 2026 07:34:01 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2639993 Ghanaian musician Medikal has been officially named an ambassador for the National Youth Authority’s “Red Means Stop” campaign aimed at combating the growing abuse of the synthetic drug known as “Red” among young people.

The appointment was announced on Thursday, March 12, 2026, at the Ministry of Youth Development and Empowerment by the Minister for Youth Development and Empowerment, George Opare Addo, in the presence of the Chief Executive Officer of the National Youth Authority, Osman Ayariga.

The initiative forms part of a national effort to raise awareness about the dangers of substance abuse and to encourage young people to adopt healthier lifestyles.

Speaking at the presentation, Mr Opare Addo thanked Medikal for accepting the responsibility to support the national campaign against drug abuse among the youth.

He said the musician’s influence among young people through his music and social media platforms makes him well-placed to help amplify the anti-drug message.

The minister expressed confidence that Medikal’s involvement would help deepen awareness about the harmful effects of drug abuse, particularly the growing use of the synthetic drug known as “Red”.

Mr Ayariga also commended Medikal for joining the campaign and called on other public figures and social media influencers to support the initiative.

He stressed that the fight against drug abuse requires a collective national effort, especially from personalities who command strong influence among the youth.

The NYA CEO noted that the “Red Means Stop” campaign seeks to educate young people about the dangers associated with substance abuse and to mobilise communities to actively discourage the practice.

Responding to the appointment, Medikal said he accepted the role because he believes the campaign can have a lasting impact on the lives of young people.

He explained that his decision to support the initiative was motivated by a desire to contribute to society and help protect the next generation.

Medikal further indicated that he would not receive any payment for serving as ambassador for the campaign.

According to him, the opportunity to support a cause that can create a generational impact is more important than financial reward.

Drug abuse has become an increasing concern in Ghana, particularly among young people. Recent data indicates that tens of thousands of youth are affected by substance use, including alcohol, synthetic opioids, marijuana and cocaine, with dangerous combinations such as “Red” becoming more prevalent.

The “Red Means Stop” campaign is therefore expected to use education, advocacy and public engagement to discourage drug use and encourage responsible choices among Ghana’s youth.

Youth Ministry names Medikal ambassador for ‘Red Means Stop’ anti-drug campaign https://www.adomonline.com/youth-ministry-names-medikal-ambassador-for-red-means-stop-anti-drug-campaign/ Thu, 26 Feb 2026 19:12:54 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2635474 The Minister for Youth Development and Empowerment, George Opare Addo, has announced the appointment of Ghanaian rapper Medikal as ambassador for the “Red Means Stop” anti-drug campaign.

The initiative, led by the National Youth Authority (NYA), aims to intensify efforts to combat substance abuse among young people across the country.

According to the Minister, the appointment is intended to make the campaign more relatable and impactful by leveraging influential voices within youth culture.

Medikal’s large following among young Ghanaians, both through his music and social media presence, is expected to enhance the campaign’s reach and credibility.

As ambassador, Medikal will promote anti-drug messaging through his music, public appearances, and digital platforms. His role will include participating in school outreaches, engaging students on the dangers of substance abuse, incorporating campaign themes into music videos and performances, and supporting peer advocacy and youth mobilization initiatives.

Speaking on the floor of parliament, Minister George Opare Addo said the celebrity partnership builds on research aimed at understanding the growing substance abuse trend and identifying effective interventions.

In addition to the ambassadorial appointment, the NYA has outlined a comprehensive plan to scale up interventions nationwide. A key element is a high-visibility billboard campaign designed to reinforce the “Red Means Stop” message along major highways, transport corridors, city centres, market areas, school zones, and youth gathering points.

The campaign is intended to sustain public awareness and drive behavioural change, particularly among vulnerable youth populations.

37% of SHS students exposed to drugs – Opare-Addo https://www.adomonline.com/37-of-shs-students-exposed-to-drugs-opare-addo/ Sat, 14 Feb 2026 09:36:39 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2631057 A chilling new survey has laid bare the staggering scale of substance exposure within Ghana’s educational institutions, revealing that 1 in 3 students in Senior High School (SHSs) have been introduced to drug use.

The findings, released by the Ministry for Youth Development, indicate that 41% of tertiary students and 37% of Senior High School (SHS) students are currently exposed to the drug trade or consumption, sparking fears of a looming public health crisis.

The data is even more sobering for the future of Ghana’s teaching profession, as Colleges of Education recorded the highest levels of drug awareness and exposure at 54%.

The Minister for Youth Development, George Opare-Addo, unveiled these “alarmingly high” statistics during the “Show Your Love” Campaign, an initiative spearheaded by the Mental Health Authority under the Ministry of Health on Friday, 13th February 2026.

The Minister admitted that the data, gathered late last year, sent shockwaves through the government.

“After the survey at the Ministry for Youth Development late last year, our findings scared all of us. 41% of our tertiary students and 37% of our SHS students report exposure to drug use,” Mr Opare-Addo stated.

He cautioned that if left unaddressed, the trend poses a terminal threat to the academic integrity of the education sector and the collective well-being of the nation’s youth.

In response to the “drug-exposure epidemic”, the ministry has announced a strategic reset of youth support systems.

The government plans to pivot from purely punitive measures to a comprehensive support framework that integrates mental health literacy directly into youth employment and entrepreneurship modules.

The Ministry’s new intervention roadmap includes:

  • Literacy Integration: Making mental health awareness a core component of National Service Scheme (NSS) placements and entrepreneurship training.
  • Referral Pathways: Strengthening the links between community youth centres and clinical mental health facilities to ensure rapid intervention for at-risk students.
  • Stakeholder Synergy: A formal partnership between the Mental Health Authority and the Ministry for Youth Development to track and treat addiction early.

“Going forward, the ministry seeks to collaborate with key stakeholders, including the Mental Health Authority, to integrate mental health literacy into youth employment and entrepreneurship programmes and strengthen referral pathways within youth centres and service placement,” the minister explained.

The high exposure rate in Colleges of Education (54%) is particularly concerning for the ministry, as these students are the nation’s future educators. The fear is that a teaching core exposed to drug use could inadvertently normalise the habit among future generations of basic school pupils.

The “Show Your Love” campaign, which serves as a backdrop for these revelations, is urging parents and guardians to move beyond the stigma of drug use and provide the necessary emotional support to help students bounce back.

NYA CEO Ayariga distributes equipment to National Apprenticeship Programme beneficiaries https://www.adomonline.com/nya-ceo-ayariga-distributes-equipment-to-national-apprenticeship-programme-beneficiaries/ Fri, 13 Feb 2026 15:39:45 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2630939 The National Youth Authority (NYA) has officially handed over essential tools and equipment to the first batch of beneficiaries under the National Apprenticeship Programme (NAP) in the Greater Accra Region.

The distribution ceremony was attended by President John Dramani Mahama, Greater Accra Regional Minister Linda Akweley Ocloo, and Minister of Youth Development and Empowerment George Opare Addo, underscoring the government’s commitment to youth empowerment and skills development.

Speaking at the event, NYA CEO Osman Abdullai Ayariga, Esq., said, “I stand before you today with deep pride and sincere gratitude at the official distribution of equipment to the first batch of beneficiaries. This event is a milestone in our collective journey to empower Ghana’s youth, strengthen our human capital, and build a resilient economy.”

Beneficiaries received sewing machines, dryers, safety equipment, and toolboxes to support their trades.

Mr Ayariga emphasised that the National Apprenticeship Programme aligns with the NDC 2024 manifesto, which prioritises inclusive growth, job creation, and practical skills development. “President Mahama has consistently underscored that youth empowerment is not charity, but an invaluable investment and asset for Ghana’s future,” he said, noting that the programme is backed by a GH¢300 million allocation in the 2025 budget.

The CEO highlighted the role of Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) in fostering industrialisation and reducing unemployment.

“By integrating apprenticeships into our national development agenda, we are bridging the gap between education and employment, ensuring that no young Ghanaian is left behind,” he said, calling on master craft persons, communities, and private sector partners to mentor apprentices and create avenues for their growth.

Concluding his address, Mr Ayariga urged beneficiaries to view the equipment as more than just tools. “For the beneficiaries here today, the equipment you receive is not just a tool – it is a symbol of opportunity, dignity, and independence. Today, we plant seeds of resilience, innovation, and prosperity. Tomorrow, these seeds will blossom into a nation where every young person has the skills, confidence, and opportunity to succeed,” he said.

Tema Central NDC executives lock up NHIS office over alleged appointments snub https://www.adomonline.com/tema-central-ndc-executives-lock-up-nhis-office-over-alleged-appointments-snub/ Tue, 10 Feb 2026 15:11:00 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2629750 Executives of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Tema Central Constituency of the Greater Accra Region have locked up the offices of the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) in protest against what they describe as unfair and exclusionary appointment processes.

The action, led by Constituency Chairman Benjamin Ims Djakumah, follows mounting dissatisfaction over recent appointments to the NHIS and other public institutions within the constituency.

According to the executives, the appointments were made without consultation and overlooked several qualified party members in Tema Central.

Chairman Djakumah said the constituency leadership is deeply unhappy with what he described as a recurring pattern of sidelining grassroots executives who worked tirelessly for the party’s success.

Supporting the protest, Constituency Secretary Henry Davidson Ayeh said party executives feel taken for granted despite their commitment and loyalty to the NDC.

Constituency Organiser Abdul Razak Mohammed Mutakwil also stressed that the sacrifices made by party faithful in Tema Central must be recognised, warning that years of hard work should not be allowed to go to waste.

Bawumia’s record speaks for itself – Opare-Ansah [Listen] https://www.adomonline.com/bawumias-record-speaks-for-itself-opare-ansah-listen/ Mon, 02 Feb 2026 15:05:21 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2626649 Frederick Opare-Ansah, campaign manager for New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has praised the former Vice President’s competence, experience, and track record, saying he is well-prepared to lead the country in the 2028 general elections.

Speaking on Adom FM’s morning show Dwaso Nsem on Monday, Mr. Opare-Ansah said many of the candidates in the recent NPP presidential primaries were from the previous administration and had held roles in the government of former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.

He added that the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) is repeating mistakes it made in the past.

“When the NDC chose John Mahama, some NPP members thought he was easy to beat because we had defeated him before. But he became president in 2024 and won the election. Politics has dynamics,” he said.

Mr. Opare-Ansah revealed Dr. Bawumia’s record as Vice President under the NPP government.

“Bawumia has shown competence beyond doubt. Ghanaians know what he can do. As Vice President, he championed over 33 policies that transformed the country, from interoperability in the financial system to other innovations that strengthened our economy,” he said.

He contrasted Bawumia’s achievements with the current NDC Vice President.

“We have a Vice President now, but we have not heard anything about her policies. When Bawumia was Vice President, he was instrumental in shaping and implementing policies that benefited the country,” he noted.

Mr. Opare-Ansah also defended the NPP’s economic record, saying criticisms of poor management were misplaced.

“Some say the economy was bad under us, but Bawumia led the NPP campaign in 2016, and when we came to power, the President entrusted Bawumia with the financial systems. That is why we have the innovations we see today,” he explained.

Former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia emerged victorious in the NPP’s presidential primaries held on Saturday, January 31, 2026.

He secured 110,645 votes, representing 56.48 percent of the total valid ballots cast, earning the party’s nomination as its flagbearer for the next general elections.

Speaking at his campaign office, Dr Bawumia expressed appreciation for the confidence shown in his leadership and paid tribute to the party’s past flagbearers.

“It is an honour to stand on the shoulders of former flagbearers like Prof Adu Boahene, J.A. Kufuor and Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo. I thank you all for making this happen,” he said.

He also acknowledged the efforts of his campaign team, party executives and delegates across the country for what he described as a disciplined and competitive process.

The Presidential Hopeful made these remarks after the campaign manager, Frederick Opare-Ansah, presented provisional collated figures from about 85 per cent of polling centres at the campaign office.

Presenting the update, Mr Opare-Ansah told the gathering that the trend pointed strongly in Dr Bawumia’s favour.

“Your Excellency, from what I have presented so far, it can only get better and you are cruising to a comfortable lead,” he said.

The announcement sparked jubilation among party supporters, who broke into party songs while chanting “It is Bawumia, no change.”

At a brief handing-over ceremony, the Minister for Youth Development and Empowerment, George Opare Addo, said the vehicles are intended to support National Apprenticeship Coordinators in all sixteen regions to efficiently supervise master craft persons and apprentices.

He noted that improved mobility would enhance monitoring, strengthen coordination and ensure the timely achievement of the programme’s objectives.

Mr Opare Addo urged the coordinators to take proper care of the vehicles to ensure sustained benefits for apprentices under the programme.

He disclosed that tracking devices have been installed in all the vehicles to prevent misuse and ensure accountability, and cautioned the Chief Executive Officer of the NYA to closely supervise their use, stressing that management would be held responsible for any abuse.

The Chief Executive Officer of the National Youth Authority, Osman Ayariga, said the National Apprenticeship Programme is currently training about 14,000 beneficiaries nationwide, with plans to scale up to 100,000 trainees in line with the commitment of the President.

He emphasised that the success of any major programme depends on adequate logistics and investment, describing the provision of the vehicles as both timely and necessary.

According to Mr Ayariga, the vehicles will significantly enhance the work of regional coordinators and support the mandate entrusted to the Authority.

He added that the National Apprenticeship Programme goes beyond skills acquisition, serving as a key driver of industrialisation and a strategic initiative to position Ghana as a global hub for skills development.

Speaking on behalf of the regional coordinators, the Volta Regional Coordinator for NAP, Johnson Korbla Samlafo, expressed appreciation to MYDE and the NYA for the vehicles, noting that improved logistics would boost operational efficiency and strengthen the delivery of hands-on, skills-based training to apprentices nationwide.

NPP Presidential aspirants sign Peace Pact ahead of January 31 primary https://www.adomonline.com/npp-presidential-aspirants-sign-peace-pact-ahead-of-january-31-primary/ Thu, 22 Jan 2026 15:13:23 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2622590 The five presidential aspirants of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) have signed a peace pact ahead of the party’s presidential primaries scheduled for January 31, 2026.

The ceremony, held on Thursday, January 22, 2026, at the Alisa Hotel in Accra, was aimed at ensuring a peaceful, transparent, and credible electoral process within the party.

All five aspirants appended their signatures to the pact, signalling their commitment to maintaining peace before, during, and after the election.

Speaking at the event, former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo urged unity among party members and aspirants. He reminded them that the NPP is bigger than any individual or faction and called on all contestants to prioritise the collective interest of the party over personal ambitions.

Chairman of the NPP Elections Committee, Joseph Osei Owusu, encouraged the aspirants to accept the outcome of the January 31 election and to support the eventual winner to maintain party cohesion.

General Secretary Justin Kodua Frimpong also appealed to the aspirants to work together after the election, emphasising that unity within the party would be critical to securing victory in the 2028 general elections.

Several senior party leaders and state officials attended the ceremony, including former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin, Chairman of the NPP Council of Elders Hackman Owusu-Agyemang, Inspector-General of Police Christian Tetteh Yohuno, former Chief Justice Akosua Frema Osei Opare, and NPP General Secretary Justin Kodua Frimpong.

Failure to heal internal divisions led to NPP losses – Frema Osei Opare https://www.adomonline.com/failure-to-heal-internal-divisions-led-to-npp-losses-frema-osei-opare/ Thu, 22 Jan 2026 13:25:29 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2622537 Former Chief of Staff, Frema Osei Opare, has attributed the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) losses in both presidential and parliamentary elections to the party’s long-standing inability to resolve internal conflicts and reconcile after internal contests.

She made the remarks at the ceremony at the Alisa Hotel in Accra on Thursday, January 22, marking the signing of a peace pact by five presidential aspirants of the NPP, ahead of the party’s 2026 presidential primaries.

Drawing on her experience as Chairperson of the party’s Conflict Resolution Committee between 2010 and 2020, Madam Osei Opare said internal disputes have consistently weakened the party’s electoral fortunes.

“In my work as the Chairperson of the party’s Conflict Resolution Committee from 2010 to 2020, it became clear that our electoral losses, both in parliamentary and presidential elections, can be largely linked to the many internal conflicts within the party and our inability to heal faster,” she said.

According to her, the party often struggles to move on after internal elections. “We are unable to forgive ourselves, reconcile, and move on after our internal elections,” she noted.

She said the National Council of Patrons has repeatedly cautioned party members against allowing internal contests to divide the party permanently.

“The National Council of Patrons admonishes that under no circumstance should the choice of the delegates in any of our internal elections degenerate into irreconcilable disagreement,” she said, adding that most leadership roles in the party are elective and temporary.

Madam Osei Opare said that the peace pact being signed should not be seen as symbolic or limited to aspirants alone.

“This peace pact that we are about to sign today is not only for aspirants and delegates, but also for all of us as NPP members and sympathisers,” she said.

She urged the aspirants to take responsibility for the conduct of their supporters before, during and after the primaries.

“There is a need for all aspirants to educate and encourage their supporters to see this important election as a time-tested tradition of our party,” she said, adding that unity after the primaries is crucial to the party’s future.

“We are all required to come together to prosecute the 2028 election. We need all hands on deck to win 2028,” she added.

Madam Osei Opare also appealed to the eventual winner of the primaries to show inclusiveness. “I urge whoever emerges victorious to embrace all other contestants and their supporters in a meaningful way by making them an integral part of the campaign at all levels,” she said.

Quoting Mother Teresa, she reminded party members of the importance of unity. “As the famous Mother Teresa said, if we have no peace, it is because we have forgotten that we belong to each other,” she noted.

She called on the party to demonstrate unity at every level of its organisation. “Let the country, the region, the constituency and the polling station feel that we, the great elephant party, are indeed united, focused and disciplined for victory in 2028,” she said.

Earlier in her address, Madam Osei Opare commended the five aspirants for their efforts over the past months, noting the demands of campaigning across the country.

“In the past few months, all five of you have been trekking and crisscrossing the nooks and crannies of our country, canvassing for votes and energising the base of our party,” she said.

She acknowledged “the difficulties involved, the energy required and the resources committed” to the process.

With less than ten days to the 2026 NPP presidential primaries, she urged party members to remain united regardless of the outcome.

“Now, in less than 10 days, the highly anticipated 2026 NPP presidential primaries will take place across the country, and we all have a duty to remain united afterwards,” she said.

Big wigs of the New Patriotic Party, including former President Nana Aufo-Addo have arrived at the Alisa Hotel in Accra ahead of the signing of a peace pact by all five aspirants in the party’s flagbearership race.

Hearts of Oak does not owe UG for using stadium – Kwame Opare Addo https://www.adomonline.com/hearts-of-oak-does-not-owe-ug-for-using-stadium-kwame-opare-addo/ Wed, 14 Jan 2026 13:33:56 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2619249 Communications Director of Hearts of Oak, Kwame Opare Addo, has challenged claims that the club owes the University of Ghana (UG) over the use of the Legon Sports Stadium, insisting there is no outstanding debt.

Recent reports alleged that the Ghana Premier League giants owe GH¢11,000 for matches and training sessions at the facility between 2016 and 2018.

The reports further suggested Hearts of Oak would be denied access to the stadium for their Matchday 19 clash against Dreams FC on Friday unless the amount is paid.

Reacting to the claims on Asempa FM’s Ultimate Sports Show, Opare Addo maintained that the club has fully settled all financial obligations to the university.

“The claimed debt by UG Sports Stadium is about GHS11,000 for matches and training from 2016 to 2018, even though we had left halfway through the season,” he said.

“Our records, confirmed by our then club accountant Hon. Hackman Seidu, show that all payments to UG Sports Stadium have been settled.”

He added that Hearts of Oak remains open to resolving the matter, provided credible evidence is presented.

“If the University of Ghana has a claim, they should provide proof, and we will settle it if verified,” he added.

Opare Addo expressed confidence that discussions with UG authorities will lead to a resolution, allowing the fixture against Dreams FC to be played at the Legon venue.

“Our game against Dreams FC will definitely be reconsidered to take place at the University of Ghana. That’s our venue, we can’t keep switching venues,” he added.

The Matchday 19 encounter is scheduled to kick off at 15:30 GMT on Friday.

Government’s job‑creation policies are beginning to bear fruit – Youth Development Minister https://www.adomonline.com/governments-job%e2%80%91creation-policies-are-beginning-to-bear-fruit-youth-development-minister/ Thu, 08 Jan 2026 18:07:06 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2617535 Minister of Youth Development and Empowerment, George Opare‑Addo, says the reduction in national unemployment rate is indicative of the government commitment to offer hope to Ghanaians, especially the youth.

He says the decline in the unemployment rate from 14.8% in 2024 to 13.0% in 2025 is evidence that the NDC administration’s job‑creation policies are beginning to bear fruit.

“If you check the unemployment rate of 14.8% in 2024 and 13.0% in 2025, clearly some progress has been made. We also acknowledge that there is more that we need to do to bring it down further,” he told Nhyira Fm.

The minister attributed the improvement to a suite of government‑driven initiatives.

According to him, some of these initiatives, which include the Big Push Project, the One‑Million Coders Initiative, the 24‑Hour Market, the National Apprenticeship Programme, and the Entrepreneurship Support Schemes, are already underway and others in the pipeline.

In addition, he revealed that the Ministry has rolled out the Youth Tracker and Youth Xplore App, a central digital hub that aggregates job listings, apprenticeships, training opportunities, and other youth‑focused resources.

Mr. Opare-Addo also noted the AgTractive Campaign is also an effort to make agriculture more attractive to young Ghanaians by showcasing modern farming techniques and market linkages.

“All these initiatives are evidence‑based and open for anyone to verify,” he said, adding that the government will “double up its effort” to create even more jobs for the youth, who constitute a large share of the country’s population.

Addressing the high number of young people in prison, the minister noted that harsh living conditions and certain lifestyles often push young people into conflict with the law.

“It is not surprising that some young people end up in prison. Harsh living conditions and certain lifestyles often push youths into conflict with the law,” he remarked.

He said the ministry is intensifying its campaign against drug abuse in 2026 and will collaborate closely with security and law‑enforcement agencies to steer vulnerable youth away from criminal activities.

Mr. Opare‑Addo urged Ghanaians to remain patient as the government continues to implement its youth‑focused policies.

“There is hope, and we will keep working to create more jobs and brighter futures for our young people,” he said.

24‑Hour Economy to be fully operational by end of 2026 – Opare‑Addo https://www.adomonline.com/24%e2%80%91hour-economy-to-be-fully-operational-by-end-of-2026-opare%e2%80%91addo/ Thu, 08 Jan 2026 15:27:58 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2617479 Minister of Youth Development and Empowerment, George Opare‑Addo, says the government’s 24‑hour economy program will be fully operational by the end of 2026.

He told Nhyria FM’s “Kro Yi Mu Nsɛm” show, hosted by Barima Kofi Dawson, the government is on track and is working to ensure the policy is properly integrated into the system.

The minister acknowledged that overhauling a structure that has run on an eight‑hour work model for decades is not easy and will take more than a year.

“Changing the whole structure of an economy that has been granted for years from 8‑hour to 24‑hour cannot be done in less than 12 months. You need legislative measures and directives, and those processes have been completed,” he explained.

He added that all necessary steps have been taken, including the submission of the policy bill to parliament.

He noted that some state organizations have already begun operating around the clock, showing the direction the country is heading.

“Everyone who is honest will see that the work is meeting expectations and we are on track,” Opare‑Addo said.

He expressed confidence that, all things being equal, the policy will be fully implemented by year‑end.

He urged Ghanaians to remain patient as the initiative moves forward.

Goalkeepers’ trainer can only decide when Benjamin Asare will start games at Hearts of Oak – Kwame Opare Addo https://www.adomonline.com/goalkeepers-trainer-can-only-decide-when-benjamin-asare-will-start-games-at-hearts-of-oak-kwame-opare-addo/ Wed, 07 Jan 2026 09:17:03 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2616801 Kwame Opare Addo, Communications Director for Accra Hearts of Oak, has clarified that the club’s goalkeeper coach, Najahu Issah, will decide when Benjamin Asare returns to the starting lineup.

Asare lost his first-choice status to Solomon Agbetsi after sustaining an injury in an international friendly against South Korea in November last year. Agbetsi, who debuted for Hearts in a November match against Swedru All Blacks, has since held onto the number one spot.

Although Asare has recovered from his injury, he has yet to feature in a match for the Phobian club.

Speaking to Asempa FM’s Ultimate Sports Show, Opare Addo indicated that Asare’s full return will be carefully managed by the goalkeeper coach.

“For now, Benjamin Asare will be given a few minutes of play until he fully recovers from his injury. The decision for him to take the starting position in goal, replacing Agbetsi, will be made by the goalkeeper’s trainer,” he said.

He also addressed Asare’s absence from Hearts’ recent clash with Medeama, revealing the Black Stars custodian missed the game due to a stomach upset.

“Benjaime Asare made the team sheet but missed the Medeama clash because of a stomach upset,” Opare Addo added.

Asare will be hoping to reclaim his starting role when Hearts of Oak face Hohoe United in their Matchday 18 fixture at the Hohoe Sports Stadium on Sunday.

2026 WC: We want both Benjamin Asare and Solomon Agbetsi to make Ghana’s final squad – Hearts of Oak https://www.adomonline.com/2026-wc-we-want-both-benjamin-asare-and-solomon-agbetsi-to-make-ghanas-final-squad-hearts-of-oak/ Wed, 07 Jan 2026 08:50:44 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2616795 Communications Director of Hearts of Oak, Kwame Opare Addo, has expressed the club’s desire to see both Benjamin Asare and Solomon Agbetsi included in Ghana’s squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Asare has been the Black Stars’ first-choice goalkeeper since his debut in March 2025, retaining his place throughout the World Cup qualifying campaign.

However, the former Great Olympics shot-stopper has struggled for regular club action since returning from an injury sustained during an international friendly against South Korea in November last year.

In Asare’s absence, Agbetsi has delivered a string of impressive performances for the Phobians.

The former Dreams FC goalkeeper made his Hearts of Oak debut against Swedru All Blacks on November 15 and has since established himself as the club’s preferred option between the posts.

Despite Asare’s limited game time, Opare Addo believes both goalkeepers have done enough to merit selection for the global showpiece.

“We want both Benjamin Asare and Solomon Agbetsi for the World Cup; Asare has already cemented his place, and Agbetsi has proven his case,” he told Asempa FM’s Ultimate Sports Show.

Meanwhile, Asare will be hoping for a return to action when Hearts of Oak travel to face Hohoe United in their Matchday 18 fixture at the Hohoe Sports Stadium on Sunday.

Youth joblessness a security risk as 1.3m remain idle – Opare Addo https://www.adomonline.com/youth-joblessness-a-security-risk-as-1-3m-remain-idle-opare-addo/ Fri, 19 Dec 2025 06:17:53 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2612001 The Minister for Youth Development and Employment, George Opare Addo, has cautioned that the growing number of unemployed young people in Ghana poses a serious risk to national security, calling for urgent and collective action to confront the challenge.

In an interview on Citi FM on Thursday, December 18, the Minister described the scale of youth unemployment as deeply troubling, warning that the situation has implications beyond the economy and could undermine social stability if left unaddressed.

“When you look at the number of unemployed young people, it is frightening. It is not just an economic issue; it is a major national security concern that should worry all of us,” Opare Addo said, adding that government is rolling out interventions aimed at drastically reducing the figures.

His remarks follow the release of new data by the Ghana Statistical Service (GSS), which indicates that more than 1.3 million young Ghanaians were not engaged in work, education or training in the third quarter of 2025.

The GSS report shows that about 1.3 million people between the ages of 15 and 24—representing 21.5 per cent of that age group—were classified as not in education, employment or training (NEET), highlighting mounting labour market pressures and persistent skills mismatches.

Opare Addo assured the public that addressing youth unemployment remains a top priority for government, noting that intensified programmes are being pursued to equip young people with skills, expand job opportunities and reintegrate them into productive economic activities in the interest of national development and security.

Gary Nimako urges lawyers to show fidelity to the law https://www.adomonline.com/gary-nimako-urges-lawyers-to-show-fidelity-to-the-law/ Mon, 15 Dec 2025 11:44:56 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2610492 The Director of Legal Affairs of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Gary Nimako Marfo, has urged young lawyers and law students to demonstrate fidelity to the law and strive for mastery in their chosen field.

Speaking at this year’s Annual General Conference of the Law Students’ Network (LSN) at the University of Professional Studies over the weekend, Mr Nimako said excellence and sound knowledge of the law would earn recognition before political affiliation.

According to him, lawyers must be guided by legal authority and scholarship rather than political emotions or propaganda.

“Lawyers should speak the law and back it with authority. You cannot rely on propaganda or political sentiments and expect to be taken seriously,” he stressed.

Member of Parliament for Akuapem North and former National Organiser of the NPP, Sammi Awuku, also urged members of the LSN to remain committed to the party and continue working diligently.

He assured the students that their efforts would not go unrewarded under a future NPP government, adding that the party recognises the importance of young professionals in its growth.

Mr Awuku further disclosed that once the party elects a flagbearer after January 31, 2026, the leadership would actively engage the LSN in areas such as advocacy, policy research and legal support.

Former Member of Parliament for Asante Akyem North, Andy Kwame Appiah-Kubi, advised law students to cultivate humility and respect, particularly towards office staff when they are called to the Bar.

He noted that clerks and administrative staff often possess practical knowledge that young lawyers can learn from, sometimes even beyond what is found in law books.

He also cautioned prospective lawyers to show respect to judges and avoid confrontational attitudes in court.

Other speakers at the conference included Nana Akwasi Awuah, former Managing Director of the Precious Minerals Marketing Company (now GoldBod), and Maataa Opare, Founder and Non-Executive Chairperson of Hawkhurst & Dua Property Services and Managing Partner of Hawkhurst & Dua Associates.

Hearts of Oak players are owed only December salaries – Club Chief https://www.adomonline.com/hearts-of-oak-players-are-owed-only-december-salaries-club-chief/ Thu, 11 Dec 2025 13:55:35 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2609392 Communications Director of Hearts of Oak, Kwame Opare Addo, has dismissed reports suggesting that the club owes its players three months’ salaries.

The Phobians are currently experiencing a challenging run of form, with only one win in their last five Premier League matches while also suffering a shock FA Cup elimination to lower-tier side True Life FC in the Round of 64.

Speaking to SportyFM, Opare Addo stressed that the claims making rounds are untrue and exaggerated.

Kwame Opare Addo

“Hearts of Oak officials and players are only owed December salary,” he clarified.

He further emphasised that the club has a consistent and transparent payment structure for all players.

“It’s not possible for one player to be paid and another not to be paid. Even with winning bonuses, everyone receives theirs the same day. Sometimes delays happen because of differences in bank processing times, so it may reflect later in the evening or the next morning. But it never means one person gets paid today and another has to wait a week or two months—it doesn’t work that way,” he added.

After 13 league games, Hearts of Oak sit seventh on the Premier League table with 21 points. They will be hoping to return to winning ways when they host Nations FC at the University of Ghana Sports Stadium this weekend for their Matchday 14 clash.

We are complying with FIFA directives to settle René Hiddink’s debt – Hearts of Oak https://www.adomonline.com/we-are-complying-with-fifa-directives-to-settle-rene-hiddinks-debt-hearts-of-oak/ Wed, 26 Nov 2025 23:05:00 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2604122 Communications Director of Hearts of Oak, Kwame Opare Addo, says the club is following FIFA’s directives as it works to clear the debt owed to former technical director René Hiddink.

The Dutch coach joined the Accra giants in 2023 on a three-year contract but left just eight months into the job.

His departure came with an unpaid balance, leading him to seek intervention from FIFA after the club terminated his deal prematurely.

Hearts of Oak were subsequently handed a transfer ban for failing to settle the outstanding amount of $150,000. The embargo prevents the club from registering new players until the debt is cleared.

Speaking on Asempa FM’s Ultimate Sports Show, Opare Addo disclosed that Hiddink has now taken the matter to a Ghanaian court, despite already securing a ruling from FIFA. He stressed, however, that the club remains committed to honouring the payment.

“René Hiddink has taken our debt case to a Ghanaian court despite the FIFA ruling, but Hearts of Oak is complying with FIFA directives to settle the outstanding debt owed to him,” he said.

He emphasised that the club has no intention of avoiding its obligations.

“Hearts of Oak aren’t reluctant to settle our debt with René Hiddink,” Opare Addo added.

The Phobians are enduring a mixed campaign in the 2025/26 Ghana Premier League and currently sit sixth on the table with 18 points from 11 matches.

GFA’s DC must punish ‘incompetent’ Referee Reginald Collins Amoah – Dr Nyaho-Tamakloe https://www.adomonline.com/gfas-dc-must-punish-incompetent-referee-reginald-collins-amoah-dr-nyaho-tamakloe/ Tue, 11 Nov 2025 06:43:47 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2598479 Hearts of Oak board member, Dr. Nyaho Nyaho-Tamakloe, has called on the Ghana Football Association’s (GFA) Disciplinary Committee to sanction referee Reginald Collins Amoah, accusing him of poor officiating in their 1-0 defeat to Asante Kotoko.

The Phobians suffered a narrow loss to their arch-rivals in Sunday’s Matchday 10 clash at the Accra Sports Stadium, where Guinean striker Morifing Donzo scored from the spot in the first half to hand Kotoko victory.

Tensions escalated late in the game after Mawuli Wayo’s stoppage-time equaliser was ruled out for offside — a decision that sparked strong criticism from Dr. Nyaho-Tamakloe.

“I call on the GFA to discipline Referee Reginald Collins Amoah. He is incompetent,” he told Asempa FM’s Ultimate Sports Show.

“Either he is incompetent or somebody has put money into his hands. This sort of nonsense is what I hate in this country. When the thing is wrong, it is wrong irrespective of who has committed that offense,” he fumed.

Meanwhile, Hearts of Oak and midfielder Mohammed Hussein have been charged with misconduct following the same match.

According to a GFA statement, the club “failed to control its players” and supporters, who allegedly threw objects onto the pitch after the final whistle.

Hussein has also been accused of assaulting the referee as he was being escorted to the tunnel under police protection.

Both the club and the player have until Tuesday, November 11, to respond to the charges.

South African National arrested at KIA for smuggling over 30kg of cannabis from Thailand https://www.adomonline.com/southern-african-national-arrested-at-kia-for-smuggling-over-30kg-of-cannabis-from-thailand/ Mon, 10 Nov 2025 16:25:26 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2598354 The Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) has arrested a South African national at Kotoka International Airport (KIA) for attempting to smuggle more than 30 kilograms of cannabis into Ghana.

The suspect, arriving on a flight from Thailand, was apprehended after intelligence prompted a thorough search of his luggage. The cannabis was found carefully concealed in vacuum-sealed packages within his personal belongings.

In a surprising development, an airline official stationed at KIA was also arrested for allegedly assisting the suspect in evading routine security checks.

NACOC officials indicated that preliminary investigations point to a coordinated effort between the foreign national and the airline worker to smuggle the illicit substance into the country. Both individuals are currently in custody and cooperating with ongoing investigations.

The Commission reiterated its zero-tolerance stance on drug trafficking, assuring the public that strict measures remain in place to detect and prevent such activities. NACOC further warned that anyone found complicit in narcotics-related offenses—regardless of nationality or position—will face the full force of the law.

Public Sector National Service personnel wait up to 10 years for jobs, while private sector is just 3 years – Minister [Audio] https://www.adomonline.com/public-sector-national-service-personnel-wait-up-to-10-years-for-jobs-while-private-sector-is-just-3-years-minister-audio/ Mon, 10 Nov 2025 16:08:54 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2598272 Minister for Youth Development and Empowerment, George Opare Addo, has revealed that public sector National Service personnel often wait up to 10 years to secure jobs, while their private sector counterparts typically find employment within three years.

Speaking in an interview on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem morning show, he noted, “When we analyse the data, those who go through National Service and enter the private sector usually get jobs within a maximum of three years. In contrast, the public sector takes much longer to absorb personnel.”

He stressed the need to understand why the private sector succeeds where the public sector struggles.

“We must begin to learn from what the private sector is doing that the public sector is not. There are lessons to be applied to improve efficiency and reduce waiting times for our graduates” he said.

Mr. Opare Addo announced plans for a new programme between the National Service Secretariat (NSS) and the Youth Employment Agency (YEA), in which the private sector will lead efforts to integrate more public sector graduates into private sector opportunities.

“This initiative is part of broader reforms to bridge the gap between graduation and employment,” he said.

Disclosing the scale of the challenge, the minister explained, “Every year, our tertiary institutions produce about 200,000 graduates. Out of the roughly 1 million eligible youths, only 200,000 graduate annually. Yet, the available jobs in the public sector are small — about 5,000 to 10,000 positions. This leaves a huge number of graduates without immediate employment opportunities.”

Despite the challenges, Mr. Opare Addo stressed that hope remains through entrepreneurship, skills training, and alternative livelihood programmes.

“All is not lost. Graduates can still create opportunities for themselves through business, innovation, and vocational skills. If you look at the data, it doesn’t lie, and the numbers keep increasing. We have to equip our young people with the tools to succeed,” he added.

Margaret Marquart Catholic Nursing Training College student named best nursing student in Ghana https://www.adomonline.com/margaret-marquart-catholic-nursing-training-college-student-named-best-nursing-student-in-ghana/ Mon, 10 Nov 2025 15:59:10 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2598327

The Margaret Marquart Catholic Nursing Training College in Kpando has reinforced its reputation as one of Ghana’s leading nursing institutions after one of its students was named the overall best nursing student in the country for the 2021/2022 academic year.

The announcement was made during the college’s triple-event ceremony, which combined the graduation of two cohorts, the matriculation of new students, and the launch of its fifth-anniversary celebrations.

A total of 85 students from the 2021/2022 cohort and 95 from the 2022/2023 cohort graduated after years of rigorous training, while 97 new students were formally matriculated to begin their nursing education.

Although the college was established in 2017, academic activities commenced in 2021, making next year its fifth anniversary.

The highlight of the event was the announcement of Batanam Alberta as the overall best nursing student in Ghana — an achievement that has elevated the college’s profile nationally. Alberta, who also delivered the valedictory address, praised the quality of training she received and expressed optimism about the future of primary healthcare in the country.

“Our training has prepared us to serve with excellence. Yet many hospitals still lack even the most basic resources. Nurses are often forced to improvise, which can sometimes result in preventable deaths or complications. Addressing corruption and bureaucracy is essential to saving lives,” she said.

The Principal of the College, Madam Francisca Naana Arthur, highlighted the institution’s growing infrastructure challenges. With a student population of 332, the college operates a shift system, relies on only two lecture halls, and lacks hostel and administrative facilities.

“We face serious infrastructure deficits, which put extra pressure on both students and management. Nevertheless, we remain determined not to compromise the quality of training we provide,” she said.

Despite these challenges, Margaret Marquart Catholic Nursing Training College continues to produce exceptional nurses who are making significant contributions across the country. College management reaffirmed its commitment to academic excellence and expressed hope for increased support from government and partners to enhance its facilities.

Officials say the national recognition of Alberta is proof that dedication and quality training can prevail even in the face of challenges.

Opare Addo announces launch of youth development M&E tracker https://www.adomonline.com/opare-addo-announces-launch-of-youth-development-me-tracker/ Mon, 10 Nov 2025 15:17:12 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2598279 Minister for Youth Development and Empowerment, George Opare Addo, has announced that the ministry will launch a Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) tracker on December 2, 2025, aimed at increasing transparency and accountability in the youth development space.

Speaking on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem morning show, the Minister explained, “This tracker will allow everyone to see everything that is happening in youth development.

“If we say we have recruited ten people, you should be able to see that. If we say we have trained 10,000 people in the National Apprenticeship Programme, the data should show, including their Ghana card details. For too long, we have lied to ourselves in this country.”

He added, “You always hear people say they have created a million jobs, but there is no data to verify if it’s true, and yet unemployment remains high. We need to do things differently, and we are going to lead that as an institution.”

Mr. Opare Addo noted that while the impact may not be immediately visible, the long-term effects will be significant.

“Over the years, we’ve had challenges with data. We need to set an example and ensure the data we put out is accurate so we can follow developments in this space properly,” he said.

The Minister also revealed that artificial intelligence (AI) will be integrated into the system to help Ghanaians search for jobs globally.

“We have many highly skilled people, and there are opportunities to work remotely. The tracker will have two phases — one for the public and one for policy planners. On the public side, AI will make it easier for youth to find jobs and gain international recognition. When given such opportunities, they can truly turn things around,” he explained.

Mr. Opare Addo continued, “It’s not a gloomy picture. We have sat down as a team, we know the challenges, and with support, we will fix it. This is about building a transparent, accountable, and impactful youth development system.”

Hearts of Oak Midfielder Mohammed Hussein apologises for misconduct https://www.adomonline.com/hearts-of-oak-midfielder-mohammed-hussein-apologises-for-misconduct/ Mon, 10 Nov 2025 15:13:08 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2598274 Hearts of Oak midfielder Mohammed Hussein has apologised publicly for his behaviour towards referee Reginald Collins Amoah during last weekend’s Premier League clash with Asante Kotoko.

The midfielder faces a misconduct charge after he was reported to have confronted the match official following Hearts’ 1-0 defeat at the Accra Sports Stadium on Sunday.

In a statement posted on Facebook on Monday, Hussein admitted his actions at the final whistle were out of line and accepted full responsibility.

He extended his apology to the Ghana Football Association, the referee, his teammates and the club’s supporters, stressing that his conduct fell short of the standards expected.

Hussein noted that the heat of the game contributed to his reaction, conceding that he allowed his emotions to get the better of him.

He added that he is determined to learn from the episode and remain committed to maintaining professionalism moving forward.

Personal Statement of Apology – Mohammed Hussein

I wish to begin by expressing my deepest gratitude to the supporters of Accra Hearts of Oak, who turned up in their numbers to stand behind the team in our match against Kotoko. Your passion and loyalty mean everything to us, and I am painfully aware that my actions at the end of the game fell short of the respect you deserve.

With a heavy heart, I sincerely apologise to the Ghana Football Association (GFA), the referee, my teammates, our cherished supporters, and the wider football community. What happened after the final whistle was unacceptable, and I take full responsibility for my behaviour.

Throughout the game, I felt frustrated and felt I was being persistently fouled without protection from the referees. In that moment of emotion, I allowed frustration to cloud my judgment. Instead of showing restraint and respect, I reacted wrongly, and I regret it deeply. My actions do not reflect who I am as a person, nor the values I hold as a professional footballer.

To the referee involved, I am truly sorry for confronting you in the manner that I did. I respect the difficult role referees play in ensuring fairness, and I humbly ask for your forgiveness for my lapse in judgment.

To the GFA, my club, my teammates, and our loyal fans, I promise to learn from this painful experience. I will work harder to remain calm under pressure, to honour the phobia badge I love and wear, and to uphold the dignity of our beautiful game.

Once again, I offer my heartfelt apologies to everyone affected by my actions. I am committed to making amends and proving, through my conduct going forward, that I have learned from this mistake

Both the player and Hearts of Oak have been cited by the GFA Disciplinary Committee and are expected to submit their responses by Tuesday, November 11.

Mahama has delivered on every promise made to Ghanaian youth – Opare Addo https://www.adomonline.com/mahama-has-delivered-on-every-promise-made-to-ghanaian-youth-opare-addo/ Mon, 10 Nov 2025 12:13:29 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2598204 Minister for Youth Development and Empowerment, George Opare Addo, has lauded President John Dramani Mahama for fulfilling all promises made to Ghana’s youth, describing his leadership as one defined by “commitment, action, and results.”

Speaking in an interview on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem morning show, Opare Addo outlined several youth-focused initiatives that, in his view, reflect the President’s dedication to empowering young people through skills training, education, and job creation.

According to him, within his first year in office, President Mahama has committed GH¢400 million to the National Apprenticeship Programme and the Adwumawura Initiative—both aimed at equipping thousands of young Ghanaians with employable skills.

“This is real commitment, not ‘audio money.’ This is money that has actually been released, and training is already ongoing,” he stated.

He further disclosed that the Youth Employment Agency (YEA) has commenced new training programmes to complement the government’s broader youth development agenda.

Beyond vocational and apprenticeship programmes, Opare Addo said President Mahama has also shown strong support for Ghana’s digital economy, citing the GH¢1 million Coders Programme as an example of tangible investment in the country’s future workforce.

“In total, President Mahama has already committed close to half a billion cedis to youth programmes. And this is only his first year. I believe he will do even more in his second,” he noted.

On education, the minister commended President Mahama for introducing policies that ease the financial burden on tertiary students.

“He introduced the free fees policy to reduce the stress associated with paying for higher education. In the first year, government supports the students directly, and from the second year, they can access the Student Loan Trust Fund to continue their studies and repay after graduation,” he explained.

Opare Addo also described President Mahama as a hands-on leader who maintains constant engagement with his ministers to stay informed about developments across various sectors.

“The President is always on top of issues. He calls ministers for updates on what is happening in their ministries. Sometimes he even verifies information personally — so as a minister, you always have to be alert,” he revealed.

He concluded that the President’s proactive leadership and consistency in delivering on his commitments set him apart from others.

“Every promise President Mahama made to the youth has been fulfilled. This is leadership with vision and action,” he affirmed.

The Porcupine Warriors secured a narrow 1-0 victory over their rivals, thanks to a first-half penalty converted by Guinean striker Morifing Donzo.

Speaking to Asempa FM’s Ultimate Sports Show after the match, Zito said he had anticipated the win, drawing motivation from the team’s recent performances against Wydad Athletic Club.

“After the games against Wydad Athletic Club, I had a meeting with the players, and I told them that to be consistent, we need to win games and win trophies before we can go to Africa again,” Zito said.

“And so I knew we would win against Hearts of Oak, and I said that before the game,” he added.

The victory keeps Asante Kotoko unbeaten in the 2025/26 Ghana Premier League. They currently sit seventh on the table with 14 points, with three games in hand.

The Porcupine Warriors aim to extend their unbeaten run when they face Vision FC in a rescheduled fixture, before hosting league leaders Aduana FC at the Baba Yara Stadium in Matchday 10.

Hearts of Oak will respond to GFA’s charges appropriately – Opare Addo https://www.adomonline.com/hearts-of-oak-will-respond-to-gfas-charges-appropriately-opare-addo/ Mon, 10 Nov 2025 08:22:28 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2598045 Communications Director of Hearts of Oak, Kwame Opare Addo, has confirmed that the club will issue a formal response to the Ghana Football Association (GFA) after receiving multiple charges following their defeat to Asante Kotoko.

The Accra-based club suffered a 1-0 loss to their arch-rivals in a heated Matchday 9 encounter at the Accra Sports Stadium on Sunday, with Guinean forward Morifing Donzo scoring from the penalty spot in the first half to secure victory for Kotoko.

In the aftermath of the match, Hearts defender Hussein Mohammed was cited for allegedly assaulting match officials, while the club faces additional sanctions for failing to control its supporters.

Reacting to the development, Opare Addo said the club is carefully reviewing the charges before determining its next steps.

“We will look at the charge and respond appropriately,” he told Asempa FM’s Ultimate Sports Show.

“If apology is part of the response, so shall it be,” he added.

The defeat ended Hearts of Oak’s unbeaten run in the Ghana Premier League. The Phobians currently sit sixth on the league table with 16 points and are set to face Swedru All Blacks in their Matchday 10 fixture this weekend at the Swedru Sports Stadium.

Karim Zito confident Kotoko will beat Hearts in Accra Super Clash https://www.adomonline.com/karim-zito-confident-kotoko-will-beat-hearts-in-accra-super-clash/ Thu, 06 Nov 2025 12:06:19 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2596997 Asante Kotoko coach, Karim Zito, has expressed strong confidence ahead of Sunday’s Super Clash, declaring that his side is fully prepared to defeat Hearts of Oak in Accra.

The Porcupine Warriors will travel to the Accra Sports Stadium for the Matchday 9 encounter, with both teams yet to suffer a defeat in the 2025/26 Ghana Premier League season.

Beyond the long-standing rivalry, the fixture promises added excitement as it brings together Zito and his former colleague and friend, Hearts coach Mas-Ud Didi Dramani.

Reflecting on their shared history, Zito recalled their successful period at Kotoko, where Dramani managed the senior team while he handled the youth side.

“I’ve worked with him before when he was at Kotoko. I was with the U20s and he was with the senior side,” Zito said.

“The telepathy between us worked well; we won the Premier Division twice and the U20 twice. That tells you how in sync we were.”

Zito commended Dramani for his performance since taking charge of Hearts but stressed that their friendship would take a back seat once the match begins.

“Beyond Hearts and Kotoko, we’re brothers. We talk a lot and he’s doing very well with Hearts of Oak,” he noted.

“We’ve played twice — I won the President’s Cup and he won the GHALCA Top 4 — so this third one is to prove a point. I said earlier that the timing of that GHALCA Top 4 wasn’t good for Kotoko, and now I feel vindicated.”

With both coaches tied at one win apiece in recent encounters, Zito made clear his determination to come out on top.

“Automatically, we are going there with the mindset of beating him at the end of the day,” he declared.

Kick-off for the much-anticipated clash is scheduled for 16:00 GMT on Sunday.

The initiative was unveiled on Tuesday, November 4, at the GFA headquarters in Accra.

GFA President Kurt Okraku said the promotion is part of efforts to ensure supporters remain at the heart of Ghana’s World Cup journey.

“This is the second time after we failed to qualify in 2018, and we are back to where we belong in world football. Having made it through the hard work of the technical team and the playing body, we at the GFA want to think about the entire country. And for that reason, we cannot go alone and leave the fans behind. In partnership with Rambell and NLA, we have the opportunity to go to the World Cup with the fans,” he stated.

Okraku added that the partnership ensures fans can feel part of the team’s journey. “I want a situation where the players sing the national anthem, and the players will feel the presence of the fans,” he said.

NLA Director-General Mohammed Abdul Salam assured participants of fairness and transparency in the promotion. “We at the NLA are committed to providing transparency, and we are in to ensure whatever we say, we deliver. We believe that Ghanaians who participate in this game will witness this transparency,” he said.

Representing Rambell, Rockson Kondey explained the mechanics and scale of the fan experience. He revealed that 220 supporters will be flown to the World Cup and outlined the participation process.

“Today marks a historic moment for our game. We believe that every Ghanaian deserves a chance to participate, win, and watch the World Cup. With just GHC20, every Ghanaian can win. Fans can join the raffle by dialling 899889#,” he said.

Ghana secured qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, to be hosted across the United States, Canada, and Mexico, by finishing top of Group I with 25 points and remaining undefeated.

The Black Stars will learn their group phase opponents on December 5.

The club is moving to fill the vacancy left by Desmond Issah-Botchway, who was relieved of his duties on Monday, November 3, following a difficult start to the 2025/26 Ghana Premier League season.

The Hunters have struggled this term, recording just one win in their opening eight matches. A goalless home draw against Nations FC proved to be the final straw, prompting the board to part ways with Issah-Botchway and his assistant, Bright Anthony Konadu.

Amissah is expected to take charge alongside former Ghana international Mallam Yahaya, who is tipped to join the technical team as assistant coach.

His first assignment, should the deal be finalised, will be a challenging trip to face Young Apostles in their Matchday 9 fixture this weekend, where he will be tasked with triggering an immediate turnaround.

The highly experienced coach is best known for guiding Bibiani GoldStars to their historic promotion to the Ghana Premier League. His résumé also includes spells with Elmina Sharks, Sekondi Hasaacas, and Berekum Chelsea.

Mohammed Kudus is a brilliant player – Everton boss David Moyes https://www.adomonline.com/mohammed-kudus-is-a-brilliant-player-everton-boss-david-moyes/ Tue, 28 Oct 2025 10:04:19 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2593157 Everton manager David Moyes has lauded Ghanaian midfielder Mohammed Kudus for his outstanding start to life at Tottenham Hotspur.

Kudus joined Spurs from West Ham United during the summer transfer window in a £55 million deal, signing a five-year contract with the North London side.

The 25-year-old has wasted little time making an impact, emerging as one of the Premier League’s most creative players this season. He currently tops the assist chart alongside Manchester City’s Jack Grealish with four assists.

“He’s a brilliant player,” Moyes said before Everton’s 3-0 defeat to Tottenham on Sunday. “He has so many attributes to his game. He is a great boy to work with. I hugely enjoyed managing him.”

The Scottish coach also praised Kudus’s physicality and tactical versatility, describing them as key components of his success.

“He has great balance, can’t be knocked off the ball, and can play inside or outside,” the Scotsman noted. “He can play several positions if you want him.”

Kudus enjoyed a prolific debut campaign at West Ham, scoring 18 goals in all competitions, before sealing his high-profile switch to Tottenham.

“He’s just finding his form at Tottenham,” Moyes added. “From a distance, he looks like their best buy of the summer.”

Kudus will look to maintain his fine form when Tottenham face Newcastle United in the EFL Cup before hosting Chelsea in the Premier League on Saturday.

The Phobians were held at the Accra Sports Stadium on Sunday in their Matchday 7 encounter, despite fighting back to share the points.

Goals from Mawuli Wayo and George Paaku salvaged the draw after Kumi Attah netted twice for the defending champions.

Speaking on Asempa FM’s Sports Nite, Opare Addo described the result as a learning step for the club but admitted that the players had hoped for more.

“Drawing with Bibiani Gold Stars was a stepping stone for us to bounce back even stronger, although the players are not happy with the outcome of the game,” he said.

The result leaves Hearts of Oak in 6th place on the league table with 13 points. The Accra-based side will aim to extend their unbeaten run when they travel to face Basake Holy Stars in their Matchday 8 fixture this weekend.

15-year-old Beatrice Laari assumes role as Youth Minister in girl empowerment drive https://www.adomonline.com/15-year-old-beatrice-laari-assumes-role-as-youth-minister-in-girl-empowerment-drive/ Mon, 27 Oct 2025 18:22:58 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2592965 In a symbolic show of girl leadership and empowerment, the Minister for Youth Development and Empowerment, George Opare-Addo, in collaboration with Plan International Ghana, has launched the 2025 edition of The Girl Takeover to mark the International Day of the Girl.

Held under the theme “Let me be a child, not a wife: Girls’ Experience of Living through Child Marriage,” the initiative aims to amplify girls’ voices, promote leadership among young women, and draw attention to harmful practices such as child marriage.

As part of this year’s celebration, 15-year-old Beatrice Laari Dammigu, Speaker of the West Mamprusi Children’s Parliament in the North East region, symbolically took over as Minister for Youth Development and Empowerment in Mr. Opare-Addo’s office in Accra.

The initiative offered young Beatrice a platform to experience leadership firsthand and to engage government officials on challenges affecting girls across the country.

When she arrived at the Ministry, she was officially welcomed by the Minister’s secretary and taken through the operations of the Ministry’s five key agencies, including the National Youth Authority, Youth Employment Agency, National Service Authority, National Entrepreneurship and Innovation Programme, and the Scholarship Secretariat.

Mr. Opare-Addo described the Girl Takeover initiative as a model for nurturing young leaders.

“This is what leadership is all about, where you groom young people, give them the opportunity to lead, and make them feel part of the process,” he stated.

During her session, Beatrice shared some of the pressing issues affecting young people, especially girls, in her municipality.

“Child labour, teen pregnancy, and drug abuse are major problems in my community,” she explained.

“Some families still think child marriage is a tradition, so they marry off their young girls. If there were more sensitization and education, it would help reduce it,” she continued.

She also appealed for support to improve educational opportunities for girls in her area.

“I attend a girls’ school, and it’s the only one in my municipality, but we are housed by another school. If the Ministry could get the Ghana Education Service to help build a proper school, more girls could be enrolled and trained to become leaders,” she noted.

In response, Mr. Opare-Addo promised to present her concerns to President John Dramani Mahama.

“We are trying to reach out as much as we can. We will take Walewale as a special case because of the passionate appeal you have made,” he assured.

The Minister later told journalists that the initiative aligns perfectly with the Ministry’s goals of youth inclusion and gender equality.

“Almost every policy implemented through this Ministry ensures at least 50 percent women’s participation,” he indicated.

“If we are not intentional about empowering women, we will leave too many behind. Ghana now has its first female Vice-President, and that should inspire us to open more doors for young girls to climb the leadership ladder,” he added.

He added that the Ministry remains committed to supporting programs that encourage girls to lead, learn, and thrive in society.

Miss Beatrice later met with the CEO of the National Youth Authority, Osman Abdulai Ayariga, to discuss youth empowerment, ending child marriage, and drug abuse prevention.

Mr. Ayariga explained that the Authority is working with pharmaceutical bodies and the Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) to tackle substance abuse among the youth.

“Legally sold drugs are being abused. Instead of being used under prescription, they are misused to get high. We are staying in touch with pharmaceutical groups and the FDA to ensure regulations are enforced. Beyond that, we are intensifying advocacy and rehabilitation through our Youth Resource Centres across all regions,” he revealed.

Miss Beatrice’s meeting with the National Youth Authority marked the conclusion of Plan International Ghana’s Girl Takeover initiative, a reminder that when given the right platform, every girl has the potential to lead and drive change.

A kingdom’s epitaph: Asantehemaa’s last smile before the silence https://www.adomonline.com/a-kingdoms-epitaph-asantehemaas-last-smile-before-the-silence/ Sat, 27 Sep 2025 07:41:15 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2583053 “Look, if you had one shot or one opportunity to seize everything you ever wanted – One moment.
Would you capture it or just let it slip?”

That is the opening line of US Rapper Eminem’s 2002 hit Lose Yourself.

And 23 years later, this played out perfectly for Ghanaian documentary photographer, Paul Addo, on the hallowed royal durbar grounds of Manhyia in Kumasi, Ashanti Region.

A moment of fatigue became a moment of destiny when he reluctantly grabbed the opportunity to take a shot; unbeknownst to him, that single photo would define his professional journey.

Tired from the intensity of hectic activities, Paul decided to find a spot to rest his feet. That simple act led him to a scene that would forever etch his name into the visual history of the Asante Kingdom.

The photograph he took that day, June 26, of the Asantehemaa, Nana Konadu Yiadom III, just seven weeks later, became the official obituary portrait shared across billboards, newspapers, and live broadcasts during the state funeral of the revered queenmother.

The Fateful Day at Manhyia Palace

Paul’s dedication leads him to festivals and royal events across the country, often self-financing his travels.

His account of the day he photographed the Asantehemaa is a masterclass in a photographer’s instinct.

“I was very tired that day; you know how intense these festivals could be. I wanted to go and rest my feet a bit. Just when I was about to move, I saw an all-women group singing and dancing. There weren’t many, and they were right in front of Nana Hemaa. I couldn’t see her directly. I first took a picture of the women singing and dancing, and then, through a small opening, I saw that she was there, sitting under her umbrella.”

Curiosity compelled him to move closer.

“I didn’t know she was the Asantehemaa when I got there, but she was just glowing under her umbrella, and that compelled me to capture her.”

Following an unspoken protocol, he sought permission without words.

“I just bowed slightly to ask for permission and then, with the slightest nod, she agreed. And, you know, she looked me straight into the camera.”

For a few precious seconds, he had her attention.

Then, as she turned to speak with an attendant, Paul continued to shoot, preserving a candid glimpse of royalty.

Paul’s story is one of passion fuelled by perseverance. His advice to aspiring photographers is simple yet powerful:

“You have to shoot all the time… You cannot sit in your room and be thinking or dreaming about a particular shot. You just have to go out, and there you will find the stories, or the stories will find you.”

For Paul Addo, this iconic image is more than a single lucky shot; it is the powerful culmination of a deeply personal mission to tell the Ghanaian story with dignity, beauty, and truth.

How it all began

Paul Addo’s journey into photography began in Ghana’s pulsating music scene, working with platforms like GhanaMusic.com.

It was here, in the world of entertainment and early blogging, that he first encountered the power of an image.

However, the true spark ignited when he stumbled upon the work of a Ghanaian photographer named Yaw Opare online.

“These were pictures from somewhere in the Eastern region… and they were totally different from the regular pictures that I normally see from Ghanaian photographers at the time,” he says. “I had not really seen a photographer moving around the country and taking pictures of the landscape, so when I saw those pictures, it captivated me.”

He reached out, met Yaw Opare, and began studying under him.

Paul Addo is deliberate in calling himself a documentary photographer. His work is not just about capturing news; it’s about telling sustained, beautiful stories. He noticed a glaring disparity between the Ghana he lived in and the Ghana portrayed to the world.

“I realised that, oftentimes, the images that represent us as a country, and if you want to expand it as a continent, it’s not really the reality on the ground,” he explains, his voice firm with conviction. “The beauty within us isn’t shown; it’s not talked about that much. Oftentimes, it’s images of maybe a hungry child or a shirtless child somewhere, and then negative stories. And these are the images that they used to represent us.”

This realisation became the driving force behind his art. He set out to change the narrative, to focus on the profound beauty that resides in Ghana’s landscapes, its vibrant festivals, its rich food culture, and the dignified spirit of its people.

He also speaks candidly about the challenges, especially the business side of photography. He finances his personal projects through commercial gigs, weddings, events, and portraits, a common hustle for artists. But he issues a poignant call for local support, highlighting a critical gap.

“In the developed countries, they have some grants that they give to sponsor photographers to undertake projects. Here in Ghana, I don’t find much of that…,” he laments. I plead with the government and NGO’s to offer their support.”

Looking ahead, Paul Addo’s dreams are as vast as the continent he wishes to document. “I would love to travel the world and have a bigger platform internationally to showcase these works that I’ve been doing in Ghana and in the future Africa as well.”

His campaign remains anchored on a powerful idea, “Telling the Ghanaian story with photographs that dignify us. Not always the negative… we’ve portrayed a negative part of us for more than a hundred years, so we should be able to talk more about the good aspect also.”

I’ll carefully consider any appointment before accepting – Chief Biney [Listen] https://www.adomonline.com/ill-carefully-consider-any-appointment-before-accepting-chief-biney-listen/ Mon, 15 Sep 2025 16:42:09 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2578802

Former Deputy National Organiser of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Chief Nixon Biney, has dismissed viral reports claiming he has been appointed Managing Director of the Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL).

Speaking on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem on Monday, Biney expressed surprise at a circulating social media flier announcing his alleged appointment, stressing that he had not received any official communication from government.

“Minister of Youth Development and Empowerment, George Opare Addo, was the first person to draw my attention to the viral post. I was surprised because if it were true, I believe I would have been engaged to confirm that I am available and ready to deliver on the mandate,” he said.

Biney clarified that he is currently focused on his private business but remains open to serving in a role where he can make a meaningful impact.

“It is not just about the appointment but how you can positively impact. Wherever I am appointed, it shouldn’t be a minus but a plus. Appointees must be impactful and support President Mahama’s vision and agenda over the next four years,” he stressed.

He added that he has held discussions with President Mahama and the First Lady on areas where he can contribute, emphasizing that any future role must align with his logistics expertise and desire to support national development.

Biney concluded by urging Ghanaians to focus on adding value rather than merely occupying positions, warning: “Even if we bring Jesus Christ, things will not be the same” without a mindset of impact.

Reassignment of NSA boss not surprising – Sulemana Braimah https://www.adomonline.com/reassignment-of-nsa-boss-not-surprising-sulemana-braimah/ Tue, 09 Sep 2025 07:18:52 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2576341 The Executive Director of the Media Foundation for West Africa (MFWA), Sulemana Braimah, has welcomed the reassignment of Felix Gyamfi, the Acting Director-General of the National Service Authority (NSA), describing it as a positive and necessary move.

Speaking on Accra-based Citi FM, Mr. Braimah said the decision was not surprising, given recent challenges at the Authority.

“I think it is not surprising considering the issues that were unfolding,” he remarked. “Any leader determined to pursue meaningful reforms at the NSS would likely have taken the same step.”

Mr. Gyamfi, who was appointed in January 2025, was reassigned on Monday to the Ministry of Finance.

The move has sparked debate in public service circles due to its abrupt nature and timing, which comes just before the annual posting of new service personnel.

Reports indicate that the reassignment followed a policy clash between Mr. Gyamfi and the Minister of Youth Development, George Opare Addo, over the Authority’s digital deployment platform.

An audit of the system revealed loopholes that allowed financial losses through the inclusion of non-existent names on the payroll.

Mr. Braimah criticised the outgoing Director-General for attempting to maintain and upgrade the troubled platform despite the audit findings.

“I couldn’t understand why there was an attempt to defend that digital system when it was clearly linked to the losses. His determination to protect it was simply indefensible,” he added.

Acting National Service Authority CEO, Felix Gyamfi, moved to Finance Ministry https://www.adomonline.com/acting-national-service-authority-ceo-felix-gyamfi-moved-to-finance-ministry/ Mon, 08 Sep 2025 12:39:16 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2576170 The Acting Director-General of the National Service Authority (NSA), Felix Gyamfi, has been reassigned to the Ministry of Finance with immediate effect.

Mr. Gyamfi’s transfer comes barely seven months after his appointment in January 2025 and has sparked debate within public service circles over the abrupt nature of the decision.

Although the Presidency has not given an official explanation, sources at the Jubilee House suggest the move is part of a broader reshuffle aimed at strengthening the administration’s economic management team.

Meanwhile, media reports indicate that delays in the posting of new national service personnel also weighed heavily in the decision-making process. An audit of the Authority’s online deployment system reportedly highlighted inefficiencies.

In addition, reports point to a policy disagreement between Mr. Gyamfi and his supervising minister, George Opare Addo.

While the Youth Development Minister is said to have pushed for a new deployment portal to close systemic loopholes, Mr. Gyamfi is believed to have argued that the existing system only required improvements rather than being scrapped entirely.

Akwatia by-election: GJA urges responsible reportage and safety assurances https://www.adomonline.com/akwatia-by-election-gja-urges-responsible-reportage-and-safety-assurances/ Fri, 29 Aug 2025 19:44:00 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2572815 The Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) has raised concerns about the heavy military presence in Akwatia ahead of the parliamentary by-election scheduled for Tuesday, September 2, 2025.

In a statement on Friday, the Association reminded the security services that election security is primarily the responsibility of the Ghana Police Service, as mandated by the relevant Legislative Instrument, with the military expected to provide only backup support when necessary.

The GJA warned that the presence of masked security personnel in the constituency could create fear and panic among voters and undermine confidence in the electoral process.

It also issued a strong call to journalists covering the polls to uphold the highest ethical standards, urging accuracy, fairness, and balance in their reportage.

The Association further advised reporters to avoid conduct or language that might expose them to hostility, while cautioning media houses to equip their teams with protective gear and risk management guidance before deployment.

“We expect you to professionally broadcast or publish the news—don’t become the news,” the GJA told its members.

The Association appealed to political parties and their supporters to respect the work of journalists and avoid confrontations that could compromise their safety. It also held the security agencies, particularly the Police, fully accountable for protecting journalists on duty.

The GJA reminded the Ghana Armed Forces of its unfulfilled promise to release findings into the assault of JoyNews reporter Carlos Calony and his cameraman by a soldier earlier this year, insisting that the delay raises questions about the military’s commitment to accountability.

Reaffirming its stance, the GJA said, “Journalists are not combatants in the political contest; they are professionals carrying out a democratic duty to inform the public. Journalism is not a crime, and journalists must be treated as partners in democracy, not targets of threats or attacks.”
