A suspected thief, believed to be in his thirties, has been lynched by a mob at Agomanya Ablotsi near Somanya in the Lower Manya Krobo Municipality in the Eastern region.
When Adom News‘ regional correspondent got to the scene, the lifeless body of the victim, who suffered multiple injuries from the attack, was in a gutter until 9: am when a police team from the Odumase Police Station arrived and conveyed the body to the Atua Government Hospital morgue.
In an interview with the police, Inspector George Koranteng, a detective at the Odumase Police Station said his outfit received information about the incident at 7:30 am and that they were yet to conduct further investigations into the cause of the mob action.
Inspector Koranteng cautioned the public not to resort to lynching suspected thieves but report such incidents to the police.
The Assemblyman for Agomanya Ablotsi Nirththe area, who condemned the mob action, complained of rampant robberies in the area. The robberies, he said, are causing fear and panic among the residents.
“There have been robberies in Agomanya and its environs but it is not right for residents to take the law into their own hands, so plans are underway to hold a public forum to resolve these robbery cases and mob action as well,” he said.
