The Chief of Staff as part of the celebration of Dr Kwame Nkrumah’s birthday has donated items worth ¢5000 to the maternity ward of the University of Ghana Hospital.
Akosua Frema Osei-Opare who donates annually to the facility played a key role in putting up the facility during her tenure as Member of Parliament for the area.
The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Ayawaso West Assembly, Sandra Owusu Ahinkora who delivered the donation on behalf of Madam Frema said she chose Nkrumah’s birthday for the donation to demonstrate the importance of women.
“There cannot be birth without mothers and, therefore, our mother Frema Opare, a mother and a giver decided to reach out to women particularly those who have just given birth. She is also giving to pregnant women in a facility to encourage and to congratulate them,” she added.
The MCE spoke about how the Chief of Staff is particular about the maintenance culture of the facility and others like that especially considering the Legon facility which she helped to build.
“This periodic check of the maternity ward is in order for our mother to know the progress of this facility,” Mrs Ahinkora reiterated.
Some of the items donated included toiletries, diapers, cooking oil, bags of maize, and other items used at the maternity ward for new mothers and newly borns. She also made a cash donation of ¢2,000 to new mothers whose babies are having challenges to breastfeed.
