Legendary Mohammed Polo

Former Ghana international, Mohammed Ahmed Polo, has thrown his weight behind Black Stars captain, Andre Dede Ayew for saying that Ghana needs the help of the god of football to win the Africa Cup trophy.

The Black Stars are in group F of the 2019 showpiece that would be staged in Egypt from June 21 to July 19.

The former Hearts of Oak talisman, speaking on AFCON Diaries programme on Asempa FM, sided with the captain, insisting that Ghana needs luck “if we indeed want to end the 37 years trophy drought.”

The dribbling magician, as he is affectionately, believes apart from the luck and also the god of football helping the team, unity will also be key in winning the trophy.

“Ghana needs luck to win the trophy; but that luck depends on the unity of the entire players, this is because if you have luck, you can go through it. We have had luck to go closer to the cup on some occasions but it didn’t go well.

“This time around, I think with prayers we can be able to overcome that 37 years trophy drought despite the problems they have gone through.”

The Black Stars, after winning their last trophy in 1982, have since been at the final on three occasions, losing all with the latest against Ivory Coast which they lost 9-8 on penalties in 2015.
