The future of twenty Junior High School graduates is in limbo because the West Africa Examination Council has upheld their results.

The students were among 40 candidates presented by A-Z Preparatory and Junior High School at Teshie – Okpoi-Gonno in Greater Accra.

The situation has forced Proprietor of the school, Bishop Godwin Aaron Monyo to appeal for President Akufo-Addo’s immediate intervention.

According to him, though the school presented forty (40) candidates for the 2017 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE), WAEC released results of only 20, withholding the English Language Paper of 20 others.

In February 2018, seventeen (17) of the twenty whose English Paper results were cancelled had to re-sit their papers but after the results were released in the month of May/June 2018, WAeC continues to hold their results,” he said.

The situation, he said, has denied the students admission into second-cycle schools.

The Human Rights Division of the Accra High Court in its July 14, 2018 ruling ordered WAEC to release the results of the affected candidates.

It followed a writ filed by parents of the 20 affected candidates.

“On 4th July 2018, the court ruled in favour of the twenty (20) candidates, thereby ordering WAEC to release the results but instead of releasing the results, WAEC in August 2018, went for a stay of execution from another Human Right High Court in Accra,” he noted.

On August 14, the Human Rights High Court in Accra in its ruling declined the stay of the execution and ordered WAEC to release the result.”

But WAEC has since failed to release the results, one month after the ruling.

Bishop Monyo wants President Akufo-Addo to intervene to save the future of the affected children.
