Nii Lante Vanderpuye, MP for Odododiodoo constituency

The future of Ghanaian politics looks bleak if the activities of vigilante groups are not curtailed, member of parliament for Odododiodoo constituency, Nii Lante Vanderpuye, has predicted.

The legislator further predicted that if the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and National Democratic Congress (NDC) failed to stop persons involved in vigilantism, they will grow into monsters to devour them.

“These people are gradually becoming untouchable and very soon they will be making unthinkable demands for party leadership to follow,” Mr Vanderpuye noted.

He emphasised that the two main political parties in Ghana, the NPP and NDC,  should be more dedicated to solving this issue of vigilantism in Ghana.

“That is why I am saying we should show commitment as political parties to this issue which might become a national crisis and the NDC is so committed to solving it,” he stated on Peace FM.

Mr Vanderpuye added that the violence that happened in Ayawaso West Wougon was an eye-opener to the fact that the issue of vigilantism is beyond political parties.

“What happened at Ayawaso West Wougon has taken the issue beyond NPP and NDC. To the extent that people will take police branded vehicle for an operation that is not authorized by the IGP should tell you something is wrong and very worrying,” he stated.

“So what we are seeing now is not something that can be handled today or tomorrow we should take a pragmatic step to ensure that this issue is solved,” he added.
