Every musician wants to be honoured for his/her hard work, hence the importance attached to award schemes.

This year’s nominations in the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMA) have had some artistes complain about why their songs weren’t part of the final list.

Musicians like Praye, Lil Win, among other acts have queried why their songs weren’t nominated because they believe their songs made waves.

Though, George Quaye, the Public Relations Director for VGMA has explained on Daybreak Hitz on Hitz FM that some acts were left out, Reggae and dancehall musician, Ras Kukuu says he cannot understand why the executive Board of VGMA Academy would fail to nominate his ‘Wo’ song.

Speaking on Daybreak Hitz on Hitz FM, Ras Kukuu said his song dominated the airwaves and it was qualified to be nominated for ‘Gospel song of the Year’, ‘Afropop’, or ‘Hiplife song of the Year’, but the organisers deliberately ignored him.

According to him, he can be counted as one of the most hardworking musicians in the industry, but he is always underrated.

“Who works more than Ras Kukuu? If it’s not hatred then I don’t know who I’ve wronged. If ‘Wo’ was nominated in 3 Music Awards as popular song then why not VGMA? Why wasn’t ‘Wo’ nominated in other categories even if not dancehall?” Ras Kukuu queried.

“It can be called an Afropop song or hiplife song of the year and people even call it gospel. Which of the gospel songs are better than ‘Wo.’ The rhythm syncs everywhere.” he said.
