President Nana Akufo-Addo has named declared Techiman as the capital town for the newly-created Bono East Region.
This announcement by President Akufo Addo comes after the Chiefs and hundreds of the people of the Nkoranza Traditional Area on Monday hit the streets to protest over what they described as a side-line of the Nkoranza township as the capital of the new region.
“The Minister for the Brong Ahafo Region will be a caretaker until a substantive minister is appointed for the Bono East Region,” the president said.
The President announced this when he addressed a delegation from the newly-created Bono East Region at the Jubilee House Wednesday afternoon at a ceremony to issue the Constitution Instrument (CI) to give effect to the new region.
President Akufo-Addo urged the people of the Bono East Region to work hard towards the development of the new region.
“This day, we begin to write our story of growth and exonerated development and this can only happen if we eschew all narrow parochial interest and work hard together. Let us be up and doing. I want to assure you that the government’s projects and structure will be equally and equitably distributed across the region. I am confident this new region will contribute to the growth of our country through dedication and hard work.”
Techiman is the capital of Techiman Municipal of the Brong East Region of Ghana, a leading market town in Southern Ghana and one of the two major cities and settlements of Brong East region.
Techiman is located at a historical crossroads of trade routes and the Tano River, and serves as the capital of the Techiman Municipal District.
