A fuel tanker with the registration number, GN 5392-11 has been engulfed in flames at the Excel Filling Station in Techiman.

The incident occurred yesterday at 4.00 pm after the driver of the fuel tanker, Jacob Tei stopped at the filling station to have some rest and continue later to Tamale to discharge the fuel.

The driver’s mate of the exploded tanker, Samuel Doku who sustained some injuries during the explosion is responding to treatment at the Techiman Holy Family Hospital.

It took firefighters over three hours to bring the fire under control.

It is believed that the exploded tanker’s mate, Samuel Doku who was the only casualty got burnt when he attempted to stop the fire from spreading.

In an interview with the Techiman Municipal Chief Fire Officer, Akenten Mensah, he disclosed that but for the timely intervention of the firemen at the scene, the tanker explosion would have resulted in a mass explosion.

Manager of the station, Joyce Fafah, has refused to comment on the issue when she was contacted by Adom News.
