Parliament is set to investigate the corruption allegations leveled against the former Executive Director of the Ghana Standards Authority (GSA) over alleged $1.2million kickback from a contractor undertaking construction work for the Authority.

According to the Chairman of Trade, Industry and Tourism Committee of Parliament, Daniel Nii Kwartei Titus-Glover, his committee will meet to investigate the matter when Parliament reconvenes.

“When Parliament reconvenes, the committee will meet and invite officials of the GSA involve in the matter” the Tema East MP stressed.

Titus Glover was speaking Monday on Adom FM’s Burning Issues program hosted by Afia Pokua on the alleged corruption at Standards Authority.

The Chairman of the Committee was reacting to the damning details of an investigative report which cited Dr George Crentsil for collecting $1.2 million kickback from a contractor undertaking construction work for the Authority.

Lemet Construction Company is said to have worked on a new block of the Standards Authority Training School at a cost in excess of GHC15 million.

The report which was intercepted by Joy News’ investigative journalist Kwetey Nartey suggests Dr Crentsil in two tranches of $1 million and $200,000 collected the kickback from Lemet Construction, the company which won the contract to build a new block of the Standards Authority Training School at a cost of GHC15 million.

The Public Relations Officer at the Ghana Standards Authority, Amponsah Bediako also described as “shameful and embarrassing,” findings of an investigative committee claiming that the immediate past Executive Director of the Authority received kickbacks from a contractor.

He added they had some suspicious of Dr. George Crentsil all along but never had any concrete evidence of corruption against him.

Amponsah Bediako said the Economic and Orginansed Crime Office (EOCO) must pick up the matter and investigate it to recover any losses to the state chest.
