Official figures from the the Ghana Police Service have confirmed that 55 people died in the Friday morning accident involving two buses on the Kintampo-Techiman highway.

According
to the police, a total of 108 passengers were on board both vehicles when
the accident occurred around
2 am on Friday at a town called Ampoma in the Bono East Region.

Kintampo Divisional Commander, ACP Joseph Antwi Gyawu, who confirmed the death of the 55 people, said 35 of the bodies are yet to be identified.

He noted that 53 persons who survived the fatal crash, are receiving treatment at various health facilities.

He said 40 of the victims were sent to the Jema Hospital; 12 persons are also receiving medical attention at the Holy Family Hospital in Techiman, while one other person is receiving treatment at the Government Hospital in Wenchi.
