General Secretary of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) has said government cannot absorb itself from blame in the Menzgold scandal.
Johnson Asiedu Nketia popularly known as General Mosquito said it is a fact that the Chief Executive Officer of the gold dealership firm, Nana Appiah Mensah is a protégées of President Akufo-Addo.

His comment follows a statement from the presidency denying government’s involvement in the Menzgold saga.
Spokesperson at the presidency, Eugene Arhin debunked the assertion that President Akufo-Addo has a personal relationship with NAM1.
The government has ruled out using taxpayers’ money to settle the aggrieved customers whose funds are locked up with the firm.

But on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen programme Friday, General Mosquito said customers were drawn to Menzgold due to the endorsement by government officials.
He cited how the Ministry of Tourism in collaboration with a private company awarded Nana Appiah Mensah popularly known as NAM 1 to contributing to the entertainment industry in the country.
The NDC scribe claimed the customers ignored the warnings due to the alleged tacit involvement of government officials in the Menzgold scam.

General Mosquito charged customers of Menzgold whose monies are locked up with the embattled gold dealer to demand compensation from government for allow the firm to dupe them.
Asiedu Nketia maintained that, had the operations of Menzgold been stopped by agencies such as the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and Bank of Ghana (BoG), instead of the warnings they issued to the public against dealing with them, the number of swindled customers would have been few.
