Minority Leader, Haruna Iddrisu wants President Akufo-Addo to as a matter of urgency withdraw the nomination of deputy Minister of Agriculture, George Oduro over alleged damning Bureau of National Investigations (BNI) and Police Service report against him.
According to him, George Oduro who is also a Member of Parliament for New Edubiase who has been nominated as deputy minister by the president does not qualified over alleged incident based on Article 94 of the 1992 Constitution of Ghana.
“I’m compelled now to request that the President should consider withdrawing the nomination of Goerge Oduro because there’s a damning BNI report on him” the ranking member of the Appointment committee stated.
Haruna Iddrisu stressed that the damning report from the BNI is dated March, 23rd 2017 signed by one William Akwasi Appiah over the alleged crime.
Debating the ninth report of the Appointment Committee for the approval of 17 deputy ministers on the floor of Parliament, Haruna Iddrisu said the Appointment Committee intercepted report from the Ghana Police Service and the BNI as part of the background checks which he believes that the MP does not qualify for the position.
But the Majority Leader, Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu in a sharp rebuttal expressed worry about the Minority leader’s submission
He said he was surprised that the member who is being accused of the said crime was not part of the nominees being considered in the committee’s report.
The Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Prof. Aaron Mike Oquaye therefore asked the minority leader to restrict his submission to the report before the house for consideration.
The house subsequently approved the nomination of 17 deputy ministers by consensus.
