A 42-year-old mason, Francis Appiah, is in the custody of Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the Tema Regional Police for allegedly stabbing a man at Tema Community Nine to death.

The body of the victim, Mohammed Tijani, has been deposited at the Tema General Hospital mortuary for preservation and autopsy.

According to Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Joseph Benefo Darkwah, Tema Police Regional Public Affairs, the deceased together with five others, were said to have assaulted Appiah on December 29, 2018 which he reported to the Tema Community Eight police and a medical form was issued to him for medical assessment and treatment.

He added that another assault on the suspect by the victim occurred on January 2, 2019 when the deceased hit Appiah’s head with a stone.

According to the Police PRO, the suspect again reported to the Community Eight police station and another medical form was issued to him adding however that the deceased kept on escaping arrest.

He indicated that on January 3, this year, at about 08:30 hours, the deceased in possession of a knife allegedly attacked the suspect who over empowered him and stabbed him with the knife.

He was subsequently arrested and investigations are ongoing after which he would be arraigned before the court for prosecution.

Meanwhile, some residents of Community Nine have blamed the Police for foot dragging and opined that because the suspect was poor, he had no one to protect him.

They called on the Police to take such issues seriously and protect the poor and the innocent from bullies.
