G/SGT Fuseini Mohammed, a police officer with the Marine Unit, who was on duty at the Osagyefo Power Barge in the Western Region, has reportedly committed suicide.
The officer shot himself with AK 47 rifle while on duty protecting the power barge.
A police wireless message seen by Adomonline, confirmed the incident: “Fuseini Mohammed of Marin Police, Anyinase who was on duty at Osagyefo Barge, Effasu near Half Assini shot himself dead with AK 47 assault riffle after he sent L/CPL Iddrisu Kafando Muntari, whom he was on duty with, to buy him a shaving blade.”
The incident happened Sunday, March 24 in the morning at the police bungalow at Effasu near Half Assini, where officers on duty at the power barge lodge.
The Western Regional Police Public Relations Officer (PRO), Olivia Adeku also confirmed this on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem, Monday.
She said L/CPL Muntari returned to find the lifeless body of Mohammed lying in a pool of blood with the AK 47 rifle lying next to him in the room.
The Western region police PRO noted that, though they were yet to unravel the mystery behind the suicide, the police found a suicide note which read: “I can not take this disgrace, something I don’t know about.”
The suicide comes after the Western Regional Police Command interdicted four police officers for allegedly stealing electrical gadgets from the Osagyefo Barge, which they have been mandated to protect.
But, Madam Adeku said they were very shocked at the development since the deceased was not linked to the crime committed at the Barge.
