The acting General
Secretary of the Convention People’s Party (CPP), Mr James Kwabena Bomfeh,
popularly known as Kabila, says it is high time Ghanaians and the authorities
attach some seriousness to the teaching profession.

According to Mr Bomfeh, the Ministry of Education (MoE) and Ghana Education Service’s (GES) inaction on the lynched headmaster shows clearly that they don’t keep matters of teachers at heart.

“The way we attach seriousness to certain professions is not the same way we do to teachers. The headmaster, who was beaten to death, died in the line of work and I have not seen anything from the GES and the MoE,” he stated on Peace FM, monitored by Adomonline.

The suspects

He further stated that
the development of the country depends on good foundations which is the role of
teachers so they should be treated well.

“If this country will
go forward and be the kind of country we want, then the basic things we should
take seriously are teachers. The quality of our citizenship is determined by
the people we put in the classroom to teach.

“If you go to Ireland they put their best students to teach, what do we see in our country, without fear of doubt I will say that we put the third grade students in the teaching process to teach which reduces the respect  for the profession,” he revealed.

He, therefore, urged National Association of Graduate Teachers, Ghana National Association of Teachers, MoE and the GES to rise up and fight for their own and by so doing teachers will be taken seriously.
