Communication Team Member of the National Democratic Congress, Ametor Quarmyne, has cautioned President Akufo-Addo against his decision to sell the Komenda sugar factory.
To Ametor Quarmyne, it is the responsibility of government to fix the factory and not to sell it because it is a great asset to Ghana.
Speaking on Adom TV’s Badwam show Monday, Ametor Quarmyne said it was a wrong move for President Akufo-Addo to take.

“I know the philosophy of the NPP is grounded on private enterprise development but not commitment towards revamping state factories and that is why they want to sell the Komenda sugar factory,” he said.
“But it is the responsibility of government to fix the factory and not to sell because that was not why NDC refurbished it,” he noted.
Ametor Quarmyne added that the idleness of the factory has caused it to depreciate in value hence Ghana will not get value for money sales.

“The Idle factory is causing financial loss to the state because the NPP left it to rot after 2 years of assuming power. The factory was revamped through an Indian Exim Bank loan of $35 million so how are we going to pay the remaining amount since its value has now depreciated,” he quizzed.
The Komenda Sugar Factory was revamped and inaugurated by former President John Mahama in May, 2016 with a capacity to crush 1,250 tonnes of sugarcane per day and to provide a source of livelihood for the people in Komenda and its environs.
