The performance of the cedi against major trading currencies was a significant campaign issue ahead of the 2016 elections .

Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia named ‘economic wizkid’ claimed the depreciation of the cedi was to due to weak fundamentals of the economy.

The cedi was ¢1.92 to a dollar then and ended at ¢4.17 by the time the NDC lost the 2016 general elections to the NPP.

Months after coming to power, the cedi stabilized and the vice president claimed the dollar is under lock and key.

But the local currency has taken a nosedive with the dollar selling for over GH₵5 at some forex bureaus.

Reacting to the issue, an elated Ato Forson said Dr. Bawumia had been exposed ‘badly’ by his own words.

He recalled how Dr. Bawumia never referenced other currencies when criticizing the cedi’s performance under the Mahama administration.

Ato Forson who is also the Member of Parliament for Ajumako-Enyan-Essiam said it is obvious Dr. Bawumia “arrested the Liberian dollar”.

He said he is happy the reality is now dawning on the NPP that claimed to have the men to turn Ghana’s economy around.

Ato Forson charged Dr. Bawumia to render an unqualified apology to Ghanaians especially traders to deceiving them.
