Managing Editor of the New Crusading Guide newspaper, Kweku Baako Jnr has described the appointment of Martin Amidu as the country’s first Special Prosecutor as ‘political mastertroke’.
According to the veteran journalist, Mr Amidu “is fit for purpose”.
Expressing his excitement on Joy FM’s Newsfile Programme, Mr Baako told show host Samson Lardy Ayenini that: “I’m tempted to stand up and dance in support of his appointment” – which he did. “He [Amidu] is just fit for purpose,” Mr Baako added.
“I have had some discussions with people in the NPP who are not very enthused about it. As for our NDC friends, I’ve heard many publicly condemning it. Some are looking at the man and saying: ‘This man is unpredictable, this man is too temperamental, he’s an emotional landmine, he’s difficult to control’, and I say: ‘Well, perhaps, that’s why he’s fit for purpose’,” he added.
Anti-corruption crusader Martin Amidu has been appointed as the country’s first Special Prosecutor pending parliamentary approval; a decision that has been welcomed by many.
The Office of the Special Prosecutor marks the fulfilment of a major campaign promise of Nana Akufo-Addo in the run-up to the 2016 elections aimed at fighting corruption.
President Akufo-Addo has already signed into law the bill setting up the Special Prosecutor office after it was approved by Parliament in November 2017.
But the New Crusading Guide Editor said the Special Prosecutor’s office has the ability to tame Amidu and bring the best out of purpose.
