Executive Director of the Institute of Energy Security, Paa Kwesi Anamua Sekyi, has described the decision by the security team of the Ghana Grid Company (GRIDCo) to “shoot to kill” so-called saboteurs of power-producing infrastructure” condemnable.

To Paa Kwesi Anamua Sekyi, the decision to shoot and kill is a rather poor way of handling the suspected power sector sabotage.

Speaking on Citi FM, Mr Sekyi said the decision will not be in the interest of anyone as far as the erratic power supply persists.

“This is very unfortunate; it’s because of the way the Minister spoke on site that gave others the opportunity to speak with that boldness and without caution.  If you want to shoot to kill somebody on site, you have not done anything,” he stated.

“If you arrest the person, investigate and you will be surprised to know that there might be other people behind the scene.  That is the only way to unravel the core idea behind it [their motive] and bring it [the problem] to a conclusive end,” he noted.

“But to shoot and kill, you’ve not done anything. Our laws do not permit that a security man of GRIDCo, when he sees people on site, shoot and kill [them]. That was an unfortunate statement and must be condemned,” he said.

Mr Sekyi pleaded with perpetrators behind the destruction of the power-producing infrastructure to be mindful of their actions and put an end to it.
