The Ghana Grid Company Limited (GRIDCo) has urged the Power Distribution Service (PDS) to redistribute loads at various bulk supply points in parts of the capital, Accra.

In a statement signed by the Head of Public Relations at GRIDCo, Albert Kwasi Quainoo, GRIDCo explained the load shedding has become necessary following the diversion of 330KV Aboadze-Volta transmission line at Pokuase to facilitate the interchange construction works being undertaken by the department of Urban Roads in the area.

“The diversion has limited the capacity of transmission of network and in effect, this development is to ensure the stability of the system which may result in outages in some electricity consumers, “the statement noted.

“It is anticipated the transmission work will be completed by 19 March 2019 and GRIDCo sincerely apologizes for the inconvenience these arrangements may cause to the public,” the statement added.

Ghanaians for some days now have raised concerns about the recent power outages fearing a possible return to the ‘dumsor’ days.

The PDS, however, said the blackouts were due to technical challenges and allayed fears of a return to dumsor.
