The government will soon begin to surcharge occupants of government bungalows in order to keep them clean and maintained, the Ministry of Works and Housing has revealed.

This has become necessary due to the deplorable state of the, over a thousand, government-owned bungalows in Accra alone.

Deputy Minister for Works and Housing Hon. Freda Prempeh made this known in an interview with Adom News at the Launch of Kujos Home Maintenance, a house cleaning and maintenance company.

Ms Freda Prempeh says maintenance culture has become a challenge in the country, even for government properties.

She says government properties located in areas such as Roman Ridge, Tema, Adenta, Cantonments among other places in Accra have not been maintained by occupants because they are always waiting for the government to do so for them.

It’s, therefore, about time government found means to surcharge residents at the bungalows so the government does not always use the tax payer’s money to maintain the bungalows.

In doing this Freda Prempeh stated that the ministry will collaborate with the office of Kujos Home Maintenance to see how best they can support their initiative and to make maintenance culture effective in the country.

Meanwhile, CEO of Kujos, Joseph Magnus Martey-Martei is urging Ghanaians to be vigilant before giving out their houses or institutions for maintenance.

He says Ghanaians should always make sure that the institution has gone through a thorough fingerprint check and has acquired certificates from the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service.

Martey-Martei added that the newly born Kujos Home Maintenance will provide smooth services to Ghanaians in the areas of Structural Maintenance, Drywall Repair, Demolition Services, Electrical Services among others.
