The Ghana Revenue Authority has commissioned a drivers’ lounge constructed at the cost of about GH?1.6 million as part of the modernization process which began in 2010.
The lounge would serve as befitting office where the drivers could get the needed rest after long hours of driving so as to be in a good frame of mind to continue to drive staff safely.
It would also serve as temporary accommodation for drivers of the Authority who are on an official duty from the regions to Accra and those who would have to undertake early morning assignments.
Commissioning the building, the Commissioner-General of the GRA, Mr George Blankson said the drivers played crucial role in the delivery of service and were the backbone on which the organization thrives.
“The drivers pick us from our various destinations, convey us round to perform needed tasks, trekking to the regions on short notices and take us back home,” he said, adding that all the high value assets of over 700 vehicles were in their hands.
He said there was therefore the need to create the right environment for them to work and added that management was keenly interested in the welfare of supporting staff.
Mr Blankson advised the drivers to adopt a very good maintenance culture to ensure that the building served the purpose for a very long time.
He pledged management continuous support in every way to ensure that other items needed by the drivers were provided.
