Some constituents in Okere in the Eastern Region have raised concerns about the ministry created for Member of Parliament (MP) for the area, Dan Kwaku Botwe.

The former Information Minister in the erstwhile Kufour administration was named as the minister designate for Regional Reorganization by President Akufo-Addo.

The President introduced as the one to head his agenda of creating additional ministries in the country.

Appearing before Parliament’s Appointments Committee on Monday [January 30] Dan Botwe also justified the creation of such a ministry.

“I feel I’m lucky to be heading this ministry because it looks like there is a meeting of minds on this area. The NDC mentioned it in their manifesto and the NPP and the President also believe there is the need to create more regions, so we all agree with this,” he said.

This notwithstanding, the constituents said argued in an interview with Adom News that they would have been happier if he had been appointed Minister of Foreign Affairs or Local Government and Rural Development.

2016 National Democratic Congress (NDC) Parliamentary Candidate for the same constituency, Michael Ofori Offei, popularly known as Nana Kakra who has been at the forefront of the calls argued that Dan Botwe possesses enough knowledge to work as the head of one of the newly created ministry.

He said that despite belonging to another political party, he believes that, with Dan Botwe’s knowledge and experience, a ministry whose core duty is to create new regions is too small for him.

“It is about the development of Okere and not about one person or individual, Dan Botwe has enough experience to occupy an established ministry, hence he should have been considered for such a ministry and not a newly created one…,” he argued.
