Ecobank Mobile App has recorded some 1.3 million downloads and users in two years, contributing significantly to the national drive towards a cashless society.

Managing Director of Ecobank Ghana, Dan Sackey, who announced this at the launch of the Ecobank Xpress Money Promo, noted that the high download and usage makes the Ecobank Mobile App one of the most successful banking Apps in the country.

According to him the promo, which is designed to reward customers for using the Ecobank Xpress Account in the App, was intended to boost financial inclusion, which is critical to the cash-lite economy Ghana is seeking to attain.

“This is part of efforts to put in place the required incentives to provide an enabling financial environment for sustained economic growth,” he said.

Dan Sackey said the Ecobank Xpress Account Promo requires users to open an Ecobank Xpress Account, fund the account through transfers from existing bank accounts and or from mobile money wallets, make payments with it, do airtime top-up or money transfers within Ghana and across Africa.

He said just for using the App as stated above, users stand the chance of winning up to GHC10,000 within the three-month promo period.

Dan Sackey noted that financial inclusion requires concerted effort and “we cannot do it alone so we are therefore inviting all stakeholders to join us, because this is one of the surest ways we can contribute towards making Ghana a cash-lite society.”

He observed that cash-based transactions remains a burden on society and there is need for stakeholders to be resolute in the pursuit of the transformational agenda of turning the economy into a cash-lite one.
