Former Deputy Ashanti Regional Minister, Mr Joseph Yamin, says Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia’s Town Hall Meeting to address port taxes will be a waste of public time and ear.

According to the politician, it is unnecessary for the Vice President to speak on an issue the President has already spoken about.

“My point is what is Bawumia going to say when the President has already spoken about the issue. Are you saying Bawumia has more knowledge on the issue than the President? What he is coming to do is a waste of Ghanaians’ time,” he stated.

Speaking on Adom TV’s morning show, he added that the incumbent government is not sure when the duties on taxes are going to be reduced since they cannot give a specific date for its implementation.

“The President in a Town Hall Meeting yesterday assured the people abroad who import to us  that he is coming to deal with the taxes and this morning we’ve heard its not going to be in six months, not in one year but very very soon, meaning they are not even sure of what they are doing, how soon do they mean?” he asked.

Dr Bawumia on April 3 will hold a Town Hall Meeting to engage key stakeholders on the economy.

The event will provide a platform for the Economic Management Team to breakdown issues related to the economy, as well as bring governance closer to the people. It will also stress on measures being implemented by the Akufo-Addo administration to make the economy attractive to investors as well as build confidence.
