A former Member of Parliament for Akwatia in the Eastern region has said armed robbery cases in his constituency has increased since the New Patriotic Party (NPP) led by President Akufo-Addo assumed power.
Baba Jamal said the robberies and petty thievery in the area are homegrown – a situation he blamed on the ‘bad economy’.

The former MP on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen programme Tuesday explained that, some people in the constituency have resorted to stealing due to the unbridled economic hardship under President Akufo-Addo.
“People in Akwatia can hardly make ends meet so many have resorted to stealing in markets and homes” he stated.
A former Deputy Minister of Employment and Labour Relations under the erstwhile Mahama government said, Ghana, which was once referred to as Gold Coast, has become a pale shadow of itself under the leadership of President Akufo-Addo which has resulted in widespread despondency amongst the populace.
Even more worrying, Baba Jamal claimed is the stealing of local delicacy banku and salted fish [momoni] in the market centres.

“Ghanaians are really suffering under NPP because in Akwatia, people are stealing common banku and momoni just to survive” he opined.
The former MP also cited how a motor bike belonging to the Constituency Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in Akwatia was stolen in broad day light to corroborate his claims.
Baba Jamal said the people of Akwatia are living in fear over frequent armed robbery attacks in the area.

He appealed to President Akufo-Addo to fulfill his promise of accelerating Ghana’s socio-economic conditions.
