Auditor-General wants journalists fighting corruption rewarded

The Auditor-General, Daniel Yaw Domelevo, is calling for a reward scheme for those in the media for fighting corruption.

Speaking at the Town Hall Meeting organized by the Media Foundation for West Africa on the theme Assessing the Performance of the Media in Fighting Corruption in Ghana: Two Years into Akuf-Addo’s Administration, Mr. Domelevo says fighting corruption is dangerous and so the encouraged to ensure that they  promote good governance and transparency in order to ensure reduction of corruption.

He again calls for protection of the media with regards to fighting corruption.

Multimedia Journalist Manasseh Azure Awuni who was among the panel scored the media 30% with regards to their performance in fighting against corruption.

Meanwhile, the President of Ghana Journalists’ Association, Roland Affail Monney, says it is right call being made by the Auditor-General for journalists to be a reward in the fight against corruption.

Mr. Monney explains it will help produce more investigative media practitioners for the country.

The Executive Director of Ghana Integrity Initiative, Linda Ofori-Kwaafo, says the media in terms of fighting corruption is encouraging but some journalists back-biting their colleagues and this is affecting the fight against the canker.

Some journalists are describing the call by Mr. Domelevo as good news and when implemented will boost the corruption fight.
