The Member of Parliament-elect for the Ayawaso West Wuogon Constituency, Lydia Seyram Alhassan, has christened her victory in the by-elections as the perfect birthday gift any individual can get.
Madam Lydia Seyram Alhasaan emerged the winner after polling 12,041 votes despite the violence that broke out at the early hours of the elections on Thursday.
Expressing her appreciation to the leadership of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and its entire members after the declaration of the results, Madam Lydia Alhassan promised to work hard to retain the seat she described as “NPP’s generational Ayawaso West Wuogon seat”.
“The people have spoken, Mr President, this is a referendum, a yes vote and an appreciation of your good works. I am grateful, I thank God, I thank you all; the people have spoken. This is the perfect birthday gift anybody can get.”
She assured the constituents of the Ayawaso West Wuogon that she would deliver on her promises and work closely with the appropriate institutions.
“The work begins from now but I promise the people my policy is triple SWY which is sanitation, scholarship scheme, women and children empowerment programme, youth entrepreneurial programmes. I will ensure together with the assemblymen and all other institutions, we will do just that,” she said.
Madam Alhassan acknowledged her late husband for the good works he did in the constituency.
“I dedicate this victory to my late husband, Mr Emmanuel Kyeremateng Agyarko,” she added.
The by-election was occasioned by the death on 21 November 2018 of Emmanuel Kyeremateng on November 21, 2018, after which Mr Agyarko’s partner Ms Alhassan, a committed politician in her own right, decided to run on a “continuity NPP” ticket.
