The Ghana Police Service has been urged not to help members of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) because they have trust issues.

Director of Security at Kotoka International Airport (KIA) VVIP section, Hopeson Adorye disclosed this on Adom FM’s Morning Show “Dwaso Nsem” Friday.

According to him, if the NDC claims they do not feel safe in the country, then the police should not assist them even if they are robbed at gunpoint.

“If the NDC say they don’t have trust in the police, then I want to urge the police, if they (NDC) call you that they have been robbed, don’t respond to them, don’t help them,” he warned.

Member of Parliament for Ningo Prampram, Sam George Nettey, has said he does not feel safe in the country, adding that, he does not trust the Ghana police service either.

The lawmaker’s comments come after he was assaulted by a well-built man believed to be from the national security in Accra during Ayawaso West Wuogon by-election on Thursday.

Sam George was slapped in the face after series of gunshots fired at the La-Bawaleshie Presby JHS polling station caused a commotion.

Reacting to his assault, he said he does not feel safe in the country.

Mr George said: “The police were present when the assault was going on and they did nothing. The police itself has also stated clearly that they are unaware of the people who were using their vehicle. So, if the police cannot protect their own armoured personnel and the police were armed and as I was being assaulted but they did not deem it necessary to intervene, I cannot trust that police service to do any kind of investigation.”

But the NPP man said comments such as Mr Nettey’s only end up undermining the work of the security agencies in the country and therefore must be condemned.

Commenting on Thursday’s chaos at Ayawaso West Wuogon by-election, Mr. Adorye said the security has the rights to issue warning shots if citizens misbehave.

Meanwhile, the Inspector General of Police (IGP), David Asante Apeatu has directed the Director-General/Criminal Investigation Department (CID) to speed up investigations into the cause of the shooting.
