The Minister for Roads and Highways, Kwasi Amoako-Atta, has described as unfair calls on him to resign after another death on the Madina-Adenta highway sparked riots.

Mr Amoako-Atta said since residents began agitations, he has been very proactive in working around the clock to get the contractor to complete the footbridges on the road.

His comment is in reaction to calls on President Akufo-Addo by residents of Adenta and Madina including flagbearer aspirant of the NDC, Professor Josuah  Alabi,  to sack him.

In an interview on Upfront on Joy News’, Professor Josuah Alabi opined that the Minister has been slow in reacting to the public anger over the deaths on the highway.

But, in a rebuttal on Adom FM’s morning show, Dwaso Nsem Friday, the Roads Minister, said such calls were borne out of malice.

Conceding that he could have done more, he indicated that the amounts of money owed the contractor was such that he needed time to mobilise.

This notwithstanding, Hon. Amoako- Atta said his fate is in the hands of President Akufo-Addo who appointed him.

“I didn’t appoint myself so if in the view of the President he thinks I should resign, he will decide,” he stated.

As an immediate measure, the Roads Minister said the contract has been awarded to a different contractor to complete the footbridges on time.

Hon. Amoako-Atta appealed for calm, especially in Adenta and its environs as they work to fix the bridge.
