Police received intelligence on December 31, 2025, indicating that a group of armed robbers had gathered along the Antoakrom–Manso Nkwanta road, reportedly preparing to attack unsuspecting commuters.

A patrol team was immediately dispatched to the area. On arrival, the suspects allegedly opened fire on officers while attempting to flee. Police returned fire in self-defence, resulting in two suspects being shot, while two others believed to be injured escaped into nearby bushes.

The injured suspects were rushed to Bekwai Government Hospital but were pronounced dead on arrival. The deceased were identified as Mohammed Umaru, aged 28, and Yaw Frimpong, also known as Nana Yaw, aged 26.

A search at the scene led to the recovery of an AK-47 rifle with four rounds of ammunition, a pump-action gun loaded with four BB cartridges, four spent BB cartridges, a black bag containing sixteen live cartridges, and a black Toyota Voxy vehicle with registration number AS 6412-25.

ACP Cephas Arthur, Ashanti South Regional Police Commander, stated that the suspects were linked to several violent robberies across the country, including the Mpohor gold robbery involving gold valued at about $3.2 million, the Nyinahini highway robbery that resulted in the death of a Voxy driver, and a cocoa shed robbery at Sefwi.

He reminded the public of earlier appeals for the voluntary surrender of illegal firearms, warning that those in possession of such weapons would face arrest.

ACP Arthur added that police are actively pursuing the escaped suspects and their accomplices, urging hospitals and the public to report anyone presenting with suspected gunshot wounds to the nearest police station or the Ashanti South Regional Police Command.

Ebo Noah arrested over failed Christmas apocalypse and public panic https://www.adomonline.com/ebo-noah-arrested-over-failed-christmas-apocalypse-and-public-panic/ Thu, 01 Jan 2026 09:22:00 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2615037 The man who spent months stirring national anxiety with claims of visions involving a water apocalypse, Evans Eshun, popularly known as Ebo Noah, has been apprehended by the Ghana Police Service.

Police sources indicate that Ebo Noah was detained today, Wednesday, December 31, 2025, following a series of controversial events that began with a failed doomsday prediction on Christmas Day and ended with a bizarre appearance at a high-profile music concert.

Authorities have been particularly concerned by reports of hundreds of people—some travelling from neighbouring countries—abandoning their homes and arriving at his “ark site” with luggage, potentially creating a humanitarian and security crisis.

The ‘Flood of 2025’: A Prophecy That Fizzled

Ebo Noah first captured the world’s attention in August 2025, claiming he had received a divine mandate to build 10 modern-day arks to save humanity from a three-year global flood.

He insisted the rains would commence on December 25, 2025, mirroring the biblical deluge.

For months, his TikTok and YouTube channels were flooded with videos of the 30-year-old in tattered sackcloth, supervising the construction of wooden vessels.

He claimed to have purchased over 250,000 pieces of timber for the project, asserting that these arks were the “only refuge” for the faithful.

However, when Christmas Day passed with clear skies, the self-acclaimed prophet quickly pivoted.

In a viral video, he claimed his intercession and three-week fast had persuaded God to “postpone” the destruction.

From the Altar to the Stage: The Rapperholic Appearance

The situation took a turn for the surreal when Ebo Noah appeared on stage at rapper Sarkodie’s ‘Rapperholic 2025’ concert.

Dressed in his trademark robes, he urged thousands of fans to “party” because the doom had been delayed.

This public display of levity—after months of inducing fear—sparked a massive backlash on social media, with many calling for his immediate arrest for “deceiving the public”.

As the nation prepares for the December 31 Watch Night services, the police have reiterated that the ban against fake prophecies that cause fear and panic remains in effect.

Any prophet who issues declarations that could cause unnecessary exacerbation of tension or panic will face similar legal consequences.

Prophet Nigel Gaisie reveals shocking visions for 2026 https://www.adomonline.com/prophet-nigel-gaisie-reveals-shocking-visions-for-2026/ Thu, 01 Jan 2026 08:23:32 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2615047 Founder and Leader of Prophetic Hill Chapel, Prophet Nigel Gaisie, has described 2026 as a generally good year, a departure from his often doom-laden prophecies, pointing instead to economic growth, business expansion and national progress.

In his end-of-year prophetic declarations, Prophet Gaisie revealed several visions and warnings, some of which he said he spiritually averted, while others were communicated directly to authorities due to their sensitive nature.

His prophecies include:

National security threats – He called for heightened protection for Sammy Gyamfi, Dr Cassiel Ato Forson and the Governor of the Bank of Ghana, warning that they are engaged in spiritual battles and face potential attacks.

Economic growth – 2026 will be positive for Ghana, with a strong economy, new companies rising and thriving, and favourable prospects for businesspeople.

Cedi forecast – He claimed to have seen the cedi drop to GH¢8 against the US dollar, alongside unprecedented national progress.

Support for President Mahama – God will support President John Dramani Mahama, using him to embark on new projects, including road construction and other development initiatives.

International concerns – He called for prayers for Italy, which he said is under spiritual stress, and warned of a possible attack on former US President Donald Trump, predicting mourning in America. He also urged prayers for President Joe Biden.

Côte d’Ivoire instability – He predicted possible military unrest and a coup attempt in Côte d’Ivoire, urging the country’s leadership and security apparatus to remain alert.

Local threats – The paramount seat in Techiman is under threat, and self-styled evangelist Nana Agradaa will be released.

Ghanaian security vigilance – He advised Ghana’s security services to remain on high alert throughout the year.

NPP primaries prediction – He foresaw a candidate initially leading and appearing victorious before facing tribulation, bleeding and lamentation, with Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia eventually overtaking to secure victory.

World Cup forecast – The World Cup to be hosted in the United States may be halted or postponed due to turbulence.

Black Stars performance – Ghana’s national team is predicted to reach the finals and perform exceptionally well.

Media and entertainment sector challenges – Trouble is expected at the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation and within the entertainment industry.

Religious revival – Churches will experience revival, and men of God will be restored in standing and influence.

Agradaa’s release – Nana Agradaa is expected to be pardoned from serving her 15-year jail term and released in 2026.

The prophet further revealed that some of the visions, particularly sensitive issues concerning Ghana, were acted upon, with authorities alerted as recently as December 30, 2025.

His declarations have sparked mixed reactions, with supporters welcoming the optimistic outlook for 2026, while others have urged caution, especially over the security-related predictions.

Nigeria drops criminal charges against Sam Jonah https://www.adomonline.com/nigeria-drops-criminal-charges-against-sam-jonah/ Wed, 31 Dec 2025 19:53:09 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2614995 Nigeria’s Attorney General of the Federation has ordered the discontinuation of criminal proceedings against Ghanaian business mogul Sir Sam Jonah and three other individuals, after determining that investigations failed to establish a prima facie case.

The directive follows a petition submitted by Sir Sam Jonah to Ghana’s Minister for Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, on December 13, 2025.

In the petition, the statesman appealed for diplomatic intervention over what he described as the unlawful takeover of his investments at the River Park Estate in Abuja, allegedly carried out by Nigeria’s Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC).

The decision to terminate the case was conveyed through official correspondence from the Office of the Attorney General of the Federation (AGF), signed by the Director of Public Prosecutions, M.B. Abubakar, after a detailed review of police investigation files.

According to the AGF, allegations of forgery, fraud and related offences brought against Mr Samuel Esson Jonah, Kojo Ansah Mensah, Victor Quainoo and Abu Arome could not be substantiated.

Investigations by the Nigeria Police Force, the AGF noted, fell short of the evidentiary threshold required to sustain criminal charges.

“No prima facie case of forgery and other related offences… has been established against the aforementioned individuals,” the Attorney General stated in reference to Charge No. CR/402/25.

The AGF also endorsed the findings of a Special Investigation Panel report dated March 28, 2025, which examined petitions involving Jonah Capital Nigeria Limited, Houses for Africa Nigeria Limited and the River Park Estate in Lugbe. The report was described as “valid, comprehensive and unbiased.”

Conversely, the Attorney General criticised conclusions reached by the IGP Monitoring Unit, describing them as “highly misleading” and faulting attempts to criminalise what he said was essentially a commercial dispute, contrary to Nigeria’s Administration of Criminal Justice Act, 2015.

Concerns were also raised about a police press briefing held on June 27, 2025, where certain individuals were publicly presented as owners and managers of the River Park Estate without any judicial determination.

The AGF said such actions were inappropriate and exceeded the lawful mandate of the police.

As part of the directive, the Attorney General ordered the Corporate Affairs Commission to reverse any administrative measures taken against the affected companies based on the disputed police report, and cautioned the Commission against actions that could interfere with ongoing court proceedings.

Beyond ending the case against the four individuals, the AGF called for fresh investigations into alleged incidents of intimidation, assault and property destruction at the River Park Estate, reportedly involving persons acting on the instructions of one Paul Odili.

The Nigeria Police Force was further directed to ensure the safety of residents and guarantee their peaceful enjoyment of property at the estate.

The incident occurred as residents demonstrated against the alleged transfer of a gangway illegal mining (galamsey) site to Chinese operators. The protest reportedly escalated when police moved in to disperse the crowd.

The Western Central Regional Police Command in Tarkwa revealed that the deaths had not yet been officially confirmed as of the time of reporting.

However, the Deputy Director of the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) for the Prestea-Huni-Valley Municipality, Louis Afful, said he personally witnessed the shooting.

“This morning a Police Patrol Squad came to town to fire warning shots. As I speak, two people have lost their lives. The community members have also blocked the road,” he told Accra-based Channel One News.

According to Mr. Afful, the bodies of the two victims have been transported to the Tarkwa Government Hospital mortuary. Tension remains high in the area, with residents reportedly mounting roadblocks as anger and fear spread through the community.

Police investigations are expected to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the incident, as calls grow for clarity and accountability over the use of force during the protest.

President John Mahama on September 1, 2025, dismissed Chief Justice Gertrude Araba Esaaba Sackey Torkornoo, following the receipt of the report from the committee instituted to probe three petitions seeking her removal.

The decision followed consultation with the Council of State, which determined that a prima facie case had been established in relation to three petitions that sought her removal.

Abronye arrested for offensive conduct – Police

The Ghana Police Service arrested New Patriotic Party (NPP) Bono Regional Chairman, Kwame Baffoe, widely known as Abronye, on charges of offensive conduct likely to breach public peace.

Before the arrest, there was a high-profile raid on the residence of former NPP Greater Accra Regional Youth Organiser, Moses Abor.

Security officers stormed his home in search of Abronye, an operation that has since drawn sharp criticism from sections of the public.

Days leading to the arrest, on September 5, Abronye formally petitioned several foreign embassies seeking political asylum.

His requests were sent to eight countries, including Côte d’Ivoire, the United States, the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Spain, Italy, and Canada.

In his petition, the outspoken NPP figure alleged that he has been subjected to growing political intimidation, threats to his life, and what he described as abuse of state security powers by the current government.

Ghana-U.S deportee deal

In September 2025, Minister for Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa confirmed that Cabinet has approved Ghana’s participation in a third-country deportation arrangement with the US.

Mr Ablakwa stressed at the time that the arrangement was not a binding treaty but a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).

They were received and detained under armed military custody at Bundase, where several were reportedly held in “deplorable conditions” without access to lawyers.

However, the move sparked national debate with the Minority Caucus on Parliament’s Foreign Affairs Committee accusing the government of violating the Constitution by agreeing to accept third-country nationals deported from the United States without parliamentary approval.

The caucus drew parallels to 2016 when the Mahama administration accepted two Guantanamo Bay detainees without parliamentary approval, questioning why the current government would repeat a similar action.

They further revealed that some of the deportees are being held in detention centres against their will and have taken legal action against the government for alleged breaches of their fundamental human rights.

Democracy Hub Sues Gov’t Over U.S. Deportation Agreement

In October 2025, Ghanaian rights activists group Democracy Hub filed a writ at the Supreme Court of Ghana challenging the legality of a secret Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the government of Ghana and the United States for the reception and detention of involuntarily repatriated West African nationals.

The group argued that the MOU, which allowed deportees from the U.S. to be temporarily detained in Ghana, is unconstitutional and violated international human rights obligations.

Democracy Hub contended that the deal not only breaches constitutional provisions but so risks making Ghana complicit in chain refoulement, where refugees are indirectly returned to danger through a third country.

National Service Authority (NSA) scandal

The former Executive Director, Osei Assibey Antwi, and the former Deputy Executive Director, Gifty Oware-Mensah, were accused of orchestrating two distinct schemes that siphoned public funds through “ghost” service personnel and fraudulent bank loans.

Osei Assibey Antwi faces 14 charges including causing financial loss to the Republic, with the flagship charge accusing him of authorizing the payment of allowances to more than 60,000 non-existent national service personnel, resulting in a loss of GH¢500,861,744.02.

He also faces multiple counts of stealing, totaling GH¢8,256,000, on specific dates between August 2023 and May 2024.

Meanwhile, Gifty Oware-Mensah faces five counts, including stealing, willfully causing financial loss, using public office for profit, and money laundering.

Oware-Mensah, who oversaw the NSA’s Finance and Procurement departments, allegedly engineered an elaborate scam involving the NSA’s “marketplace” platform, a system designed to provide hire-purchase services to service personnel.

The prosecution alleges she took control of a private company, Blocks of Life Consult, and generated a list of 9,934 ghost names from the NSA’s system.

Court orders re-run of 2024 Kpandai Parliamentary election

The Tamale High Court presided over by Justice Emmanuel Brew Plange, on November 24, 2025, annulled the parliamentary election results for the Kpandai constituency and ordered a fresh poll within 30 days, following a successful legal challenge.

The petition was filed by National Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate Daniel Nsala Wakpal, who claimed that the December 7, 2024, election was marred by serious irregularities.

He alleged inconsistencies in Form 8A (the “pink sheet”) from 41 out of 152 polling stations, arguing that these breaches violated Regulations 39 and 43 of the Public Elections Regulations (CI 127).

The court ruled that non-compliance with electoral regulations materially affected the integrity of the vote, and directed the Electoral Commission (EC) to conduct a rerun of the parliamentary election in the entire constituency.

The sitting Member of Parliament for Kpandai, Matthew Nyindam of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), had been declared the winner.

However, the Supreme Court on December 16 ordered the suspension of the re-run.

The court has adjourned the case to January 13, 2026, for further hearing.

Torkornoo’s legal actions

High Court Judicial Review:
After her suspension, Torkornoo filed a judicial review application at the High Court seeking to halt the removal process and challenge the decisions of the committee that investigated the petitions.

She argued that the inquiry process was arbitrary and should be declared unconstitutional, but this application was struck out on procedural grounds, with courts holding that some issues were already before the Supreme Court.

Blocking Successor’s Appointment:
Torkornoo also went to the Accra High Court to seek an order preventing the vetting and appointment of her nominee successor, Justice Paul Baffoe-Bonnie, claiming irregularities in how she was removed and in the committee’s proceedings.

ECOWAS Court Suit:

Torkornoo subsequently filed a case at the Community Court of Justice of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), claiming her suspension and removal violated her human rights under both the Ghanaian Constitution and the African Charter on Human and Peoples’ Rights.

She also sought US$10 million in compensation for alleged moral and reputational damage.

The ECOWAS Court dismissed her request for provisional measures to halt the fact-finding committee proceedings, partly because the application was filed long after her suspension but confirmed it has the power to hear her substantive human rights challenge and ordered the Ghanaian government to respond within a set period.

Oti youth group demands probe into Dambai College Principal over alleged mismanagement https://www.adomonline.com/oti-youth-group-demands-probe-into-dambai-college-principal-over-alleged-mismanagement/ Tue, 30 Dec 2025 15:08:47 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2614709 A youth group in the Oti Region has called on authorities to launch an immediate investigation into serious allegations against Dr. Mrs. Benedicta Atiku, Principal of Dambai College of Education.

During a peaceful demonstration through the main streets of Dambai, the youth accused the principal of misappropriating college property, including furniture and other logistics supplied since 2023.

They alleged that some items were unlawfully moved to a private residence belonging to the principal and her associates.

Abraham Amoah, Youth President for Nchumuru, claimed that the college received a partial payment of GH₵50,000 for the furniture after the public raised concerns.

He also alleged that Dr. Atiku opened an unauthorized bank account in the college’s name, which has not undergone internal or external audits, raising questions about the handling of sandwich program funds.

The youth further accused the principal of favoritism and cronyism in appointments, tenure extensions, and recruitment processes, while qualified indigenes were removed from leadership positions.

They said non-indigenes and close associates have benefited from unconstitutional tenure extensions.

Reports also suggest that Dr. Atiku has shown disrespect toward local chiefs and residents, allegedly stating she would not work with natives of the area as Vice Principal.

The youth argued that such conduct undermines community relations and the collaborative spirit necessary for effective institutional leadership.

In light of these claims, the youth urged authorities to request the principal to step aside temporarily for a thorough, impartial investigation.

Some local residents have even called for her immediate removal, citing persistent disrespect to the community and denial of admission quotas to indigenes.

Attempts to present the petition directly to the school were initially unsuccessful, but the group later submitted it to the Oti Regional Coordinating Council and the Krachi Municipal Assembly.

Presidential staffer Sulemana Mumuni received the petition on behalf of the Oti Regional Minister, thanking the youth for the peaceful demonstration and promising that the concerns would be forwarded to the appropriate authorities.

Abuakwa South MP names baby after Lordina Mahama https://www.adomonline.com/abuakwa-south-mp-names-baby-after-lordina-mahama/ Tue, 30 Dec 2025 13:50:24 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2614695 Abuakwa South Member of Parliament (MP) Dr. Kingsley Agyemang, has named a newborn baby girl after First Lady Lordina Dramani Mahama, following months of support he provided to a 13-year-old mother during her pregnancy.

The teenage girl, from Adukrom near Boamang in the Ashanti Region, became pregnant after allegedly being ganged-raped and was left vulnerable with little support from her family or community.

Hearing about her situation on Kumasi-based Oyerepa TV, the lawmaker stepped in to provide medical care, food, and essential items to ensure the health and safety of both mother and child.

After the successful delivery, the MP chose to name the baby after the First Lady, explaining that the decision was guided by a spiritual experience rather than political motives.

“I was on a plane to the USA from London when I suddenly fell asleep, or was in a trance. Then I heard a voice saying I should name the baby, yet to be delivered, after the First Lady,” Dr. Agyemang recounted.

He added that initially he questioned why he should follow this instruction. “The voice then asked me who the First Lady of Ghana was, and I answered quietly in my head. Then I got up,” he said.

At the time, the MP did not know the gender of the unborn child. “The name was given to me by God. I didn’t even know the gender of the baby, yet I was asked to name her after the First Lady,” he said.

Dr. Agyemang clarified that although he had other naming options, including naming the child after his own mother, he felt compelled to follow the spiritual direction.

“Ideally, I wouldn’t have named her after the First Lady, but the voice said so. This tells me that we should continue to help each other in the best of our ability without any political colourisation,” he added.

The MP emphasized that the naming represents compassion, gratitude, and collective responsibility toward supporting vulnerable children and survivors of abuse.

He expressed hope that the baby may grow to emulate the First Lady’s example in making a positive impact in society.

“We are spiritual beings, and we believe that when we name a child after someone, the child inherits the traits and character of that person. I believe the newborn baby will grow and become like First Lady Lordina Mahama in the future,” he concluded.

Reports by Accra-based Citi News indicate that about five masked men stormed the mosque and opened fire, sending worshippers fleeing for safety.

Although police have not officially confirmed the motive behind the attack, the violence is widely linked to a long-standing leadership dispute over the Imamship of the mosque.

Security personnel responded promptly to the incident, leading to the arrest of several suspects.

The military has since been deployed to Ho to bolster security, calm tensions, and prevent further disturbances.

Some of the injured victims, speaking to Citi News from their hospital beds, described moments of intense fear as gunshots rang out and people scrambled to escape the mosque premises.

Speaking on the incident, Mohammed Kidzah, a youth leader at the mosque, appealed for urgent action to resolve the prolonged dispute, warning that continued inaction could fuel more violence.

“The incident occurred just seconds after the Regional Chief Imam had left the area. The person who directed the shooting urged the attackers on, telling them that the Chief Imam was the target and must be shot. Acting on his instructions, they opened fire. When the Imam ran into a house, the attackers shot his son in the leg,” he said.

Security agencies say investigations are ongoing as efforts continue to restore calm in the area.

Ada PWDs boycott Assembly disbursement over procurement concerns https://www.adomonline.com/ada-pwds-boycott-assembly-disbursement-over-procurement-concerns/ Fri, 26 Dec 2025 09:13:36 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2613967 Some Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) in the Ada East District on December 23, 2025, boycotted a planned disbursement exercise by the Ada East District Assembly, citing alleged procurement breaches and non-compliance with established by-laws.

The boycott followed reports that items earmarked for distribution under the District Assembly Common Fund (DACF) were procured without adhering to laid-down procurement procedures.

Speaking to the Ghana News Agency (GNA), Mr Theophilus Dugbatey Ayim, Chairperson of the District Disability Fund Management Committee and a ranking member of the Assembly’s Sub-Committee on Social Services, said the committee had earlier vetted and compiled data on eligible beneficiaries, but no official date had been fixed for the disbursement.

Mr Ayim explained that district by-laws required all items intended for PWDs to be procured through the District Procurement Officer. However, he alleged that the procedure was bypassed, with an external individual reportedly engaged to purchase some of the items.

According to him, he only became aware on Monday, December 22, that the disbursement was scheduled for the following day, Tuesday, December 23, 2025.

He said enquiries made at the Social Welfare Department raised additional concerns, prompting the leadership of the PWDs to advise members to boycott the exercise in protest.

Mr Ayim said the group was demanding transparency, stakeholder consultation and strict adherence to procurement regulations to ensure fairness and accountability in the management of the fund.

When the GNA visited the disbursement venue at Atortorkorpe around 13:00 hours, fewer than 20 PWDs were present under the canopies out of the 156 registered beneficiaries in the district.

The low turnout reportedly compelled officials of the Social Welfare Department to adopt alternative measures, including distributing perishable items such as fresh tilapia, okro and onions directly to beneficiaries’ homes later in the day.

Meanwhile, the Ada East District Chief Executive, Mr Kenneth Kabu Kofi Kanor, has appealed to the PWDs to remain calm and adopt amicable means to resolve the issue.

Mr Kanor said he had delegated responsibility for the disbursement process to the appropriate departments of the Assembly and was confident in their ability to discharge their duties effectively.

According to him, Mr Enoch Addy, Head of the Department of Social Welfare and Community Development, had informed him that stakeholders met and agreed on the items to be procured for the beneficiaries.

He added that although he does not interfere unnecessarily in departmental operations, he remains open to dialogue and urged the leadership of the PWDs to engage him in discussions to resolve the concerns peacefully.

Fact-Check: Claim by GoldBod CEO that Ghana’s foreign reserves was $9b in 2016 FALSE https://www.adomonline.com/fact-check-claim-by-goldbod-ceo-that-ghanas-foreign-reserves-was-9b-in-2016-false/ Thu, 25 Dec 2025 13:43:14 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2613912 The Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod), Sammy Gyamfi, has issued a response to media reports that dragged his institution into the $214 million loss recorded under the Bank of Ghana’s Gold-for-Reserves programme.

In his attempt to clarify the profitability position of the GoldBod after an IMF assessment had indicated that trading losses and off-takers fees from the GoldBod had plunged the Central Bank’s Gold-for-Reserves programme losses, the CEO indicated that inflows from the GoldBod coupled with other factors had caused the country’s foreign reserves to increase from $9 billion in 2016 to $12 billion in 2025.

“It remains an indisputable fact, that the GoldBod has generated over $10 billion dollars in foreign exchange for the country in 2025 alone from its local purchasing of over 100 tons of ASM gold for the BoG. The GoldBod also buys 20% of the gold output of nine large scale companies for the BoG to shore up its gold reserves” the media release stated.

In point seven of his statement, Mr Gyamfi described Ghana’s reserve accumulation as historic, asserting that the country’s gross international reserves had increased “from $9 billion in 2016 to a record high of about $12 billion in 2025.”

Since foreign reserve data are official statistics published by the Bank of Ghana and frequently used to justify major economic policies, JoyNews Research subjected this claim to verification using BoG’s published records.

The claim rests on two figures; the reserve level in 2016 and the reported level in 2025, but the accuracy of the 2016 baseline is critical, as it determines the country’s import cover position and its associated balance of payment risk especially in period where Ghana was under its sixteenth IMF programme.

A review of the Bank of Ghana’s Summary of Economic and Financial Data shows that Ghana ended 2016 with gross international reserves of $4.86 billion, not $9 billion as stated by the GoldBod CEO. This represents a discrepancy of approximately $4.14 billion, meaning the claim substantially overstates Ghana’s reserve position for that year.

This figure is corroborated by the Bank of Ghana’s 2016 Annual Report, which also records gross international reserves at $4.86 billion at the end of 2016. The consistency across both official BoG publications provides firm confirmation that Ghana’s reserves at the close of 2016 were significantly lower than the amount cited in the CEO’s statement.

Based on this evidence, the claim that Ghana’s gross international reserves stood at $9 billion in 2016 is not supported by official central bank data. While Ghana’s reserves may have increased over time and reached higher levels by 2025, the baseline figure used to describe the magnitude of that increase is factually inaccurate.

JoyNews Research concludes that the statement claiming Ghana’s reserves was $9 billion in 2016 is false. Official Bank of Ghana records show that Ghana ended that year with reserves of $4.86 billion, not $9 billion.

Note to Readers

This fact-check is limited to verifying the accuracy of the CEO’s statement on Ghana’s foreign reserve levels in 2016. It does not dispute that Ghana’s reserves rose significantly in 2025, but the claim of a rise from $9 billion in 2016 is factually inaccurate.

Soldiers remove rival Mamprusi chief from Bawku in line with Otumfuo’s mediation recommendations https://www.adomonline.com/soldiers-remove-rival-mamprusi-chief-from-bawku-in-line-with-otumfuos-mediation-recommendations/ Wed, 24 Dec 2025 19:58:19 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2613798 Personnel of the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) have removed Alhaji Seidu Abagre, the rival Mamprusi chief, from Bawku Township in the Upper East Region, acting on recommendations contained in the Otumfuo Asantehene Osei Tutu II mediation report on the protracted conflict.

The Ministry of the Interior confirmed the development in a brief statement issued on Wednesday, December 24.

“This afternoon, personnel of the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) removed Alhaji Seidu Abagre from Bawku, pursuant to the recommendations of the Otumfuo Asantehene Osei Tutu II mediation report regarding the Bawku affair. Alhaji Seidu Abagre is safe in the care of the security agencies,” the statement said.

Following his removal, reports suggested that sporadic gunshots were heard in parts of the township, with possible casualties. However, the Ministry of the Interior has not commented on these reports.

The action forms part of broader efforts to resolve the protracted Bawku chieftaincy dispute.

The Otumfuo mediation committee had recommended that Alhaji Seidu Abagre, who was recently installed by the Mamprusi side as a rival chief, be recalled to Nalerigu by the Overlord of Mamprugu, the Nayiri.

The committee proposed that he be reassigned to perform another traditional role at the Nayiri’s Palace rather than remain in Bawku as a chief.

The report further indicated that if Mr Abagre opted to stay in Bawku, he must do so strictly as a private citizen and not present himself as a chief.

“The final resolution of the Bawku Matters requires that Mr Seidu Abagre be recalled to Nalerigu by the Nayiri to be reassigned to play another traditional role at the Palace of the Nayiri, assisted by the State. Alternatively, he may choose to stay in Bawku as an ordinary citizen of the community but not to pose as Bawku Naba,” Otumfuo Osei Tutu II stated while presenting the report.

The mediation committee’s recommendations were formally submitted to President John Dramani Mahama at the Jubilee House on Tuesday, December 16. Otumfuo Osei Tutu II also reaffirmed that the legal position on the matter has been conclusively determined, noting that the Supreme Court of Ghana has upheld Asigri Abugrago Azoka II as the lawful Bawku Naba.

GRA–SML case politically motivated; Ofori-Atta is not evading justice – US lawyer https://www.adomonline.com/gra-sml-case-politically-motivated-ofori-atta-is-not-evading-justice-us-lawyer/ Wed, 24 Dec 2025 16:17:31 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2613772 Enayat Qasimi, an international legal practitioner and lead counsel for former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta, has described the ongoing GRA–SML case as politically driven, insisting that his client is not attempting to evade justice.

Speaking in an interview with the BBC, Qasimi argued that investigative authorities, particularly the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP), were fully aware that Mr. Ofori-Atta was abroad for medical treatment and therefore had no justification to trigger a Red Notice against him.

Qasimi maintained that his client remains willing to cooperate with Ghana’s legal process and has no intention of avoiding accountability.

“He is fully committed to complying with the laws of Ghana, and he is fully committed to answering for anything that he did when he was the finance minister. There is absolutely no question about that,” he said.

According to him, the central issue is whether Mr Ofori-Atta’s constitutional rights are being respected throughout the process.

“The question is, is he being given the rights that he’s guaranteed under Ghanaian law? He is not, and he has never been,” Qasimi stated.

He further claimed that the OSP was fully informed about Ofori-Atta’s whereabouts and medical condition at the time the Red Notice was issued.

“Mr Ofori-Atta was receiving treatment. He was in the US, and they knew all along. There was no purpose for issuing the Red Notice, but they went ahead and issued it,” he added.

Mr Ofori-Atta is facing 78 counts of corruption alongside seven others in connection with the Strategic Mobilisation Limited (SML) revenue assurance contract with the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA).

The charges include alleged breaches of Section 23(1) of the Criminal Offences Act, 1960 (Act 29) and Section 92(2)(b) of the Public Procurement Act, 2003 (Act 663).

Meanwhile, the Minister for Justice and Attorney General, Dr Dominic Ayine, announced on December 18 that his office has formally submitted an extradition request to the United States for Mr. Ofori-Atta and an alleged accomplice, Ernest Akore, as investigations continue.

DVLA suspends rollout of new number plates https://www.adomonline.com/dvla-suspends-rollout-of-new-number-plates/ Wed, 24 Dec 2025 11:58:30 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2613703 The Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) has suspended the planned rollout of the new vehicle licence plates, initially scheduled to take effect on January 2, 2026, citing unresolved legal and legislative challenges.

In a statement, the Authority explained that Parliament successfully amended the Road Traffic Act, 2004 (Act 683), the necessary changes to the Road Traffic Regulation, 2012 (L.I. 2180), which governs the design and specifications of vehicle licence plates.

However, it was not passed before Parliament adjourned on Friday, December 19, 2025. As a result, the legal framework required to support the introduction of the new plates remains incomplete.

The DVLA noted that the new licence plates are designed to incorporate modern features, including Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technology, aimed at improving vehicle traceability, enhancing road safety, and strengthening enforcement.

Aside from the legislative gap, the suspension comes in the wake of an injunction filed by the Vehicle and Asset Management Group (VEMAG), a group of transport operators and industry stakeholders.

VEMAG raised concerns over the implementation process, including procurement arrangements and stakeholder engagement, and has asked the court to restrain the DVLA from proceeding with the rollout until the matter is fully determined.

The injunction has effectively placed additional legal constraints on the Authority’s ability to move forward with the new licensing system, even as efforts continue to address outstanding regulatory issues.

In the interim, the DVLA has assured the public that vehicles currently using Departure from Port (DP) stickers and DV plates can continue to operate legally.

“Owners of vehicles with DP stickers and DV plates may continue to use them until a specific time limit is officially communicated by the Authority,” the statement said.

The DVLA appealed for public understanding, stating that it remains committed to rolling out the new licence plate system once all legal and regulatory requirements have been fully resolved.

Abu Trica appears in court over $8m romance scam ahead of U.S. extradition https://www.adomonline.com/abu-trica-appears-in-court-over-8m-romance-scam-ahead-of-u-s-extradition/ Tue, 23 Dec 2025 15:02:08 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2613515 A Ghanaian national, Frederick Kumi, also known as Emmanuel Kojo Baah Obeng and Abu Trica, appeared before the Gbese District Court in Accra on Tuesday, December 23, 2025, under heavy security.

Kumi’s arrest follows allegations that he orchestrated a multi-million-dollar online romance scam targeting elderly citizens in the United States, in a case involving joint operations between Ghanaian law enforcement and the U.S. Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).

A video of his court appearance was shared on social media by Kofi TV. The case has drawn international attention due to the scale of the alleged fraud and the cross-border cooperation that led to his arrest.

According to investigators, Kumi is accused of masterminding an elaborate online romance scheme that reportedly defrauded victims of approximately $8 million. Most of the alleged victims were elderly Americans who were lured through fake online relationships and persuaded to transfer large sums of money under false pretences.

Kumi is expected to face prosecution in the United States, where a federal grand jury in the Northern District of Ohio has indicted him on charges of wire fraud and money laundering. Prosecutors say the fraudulent activities began in 2023 and involved the use of fake online identities to build emotional connections with victims before exploiting them financially.

Kumi remains in custody in Ghana as legal proceedings continue, pending possible extradition to the U.S. to face the charges.

In a statement on Friday, December 12, 2025, the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) confirmed that the arrest was carried out on Thursday, December 11, following months of intensive investigations coordinated with both local and international law enforcement agencies.

In interviews with Adom News, the traders said the incident occurred as large numbers of shoppers thronged the market to purchase food items and other festive necessities. The unusually high human traffic, they explained, created panic among both traders and shoppers.

Eyewitnesses reported that several people collapsed during the chaos, including a pregnant woman. Others, particularly children, reportedly lost mobile phones and cash amid the confusion.

The situation was brought under control after officers from the Ghana National Fire Service intervened, using water to calm the crowd and ease tensions, preventing the incident from escalating further.

Accra Central Market remains one of the busiest commercial centres in the capital, particularly during the Christmas season, when thousands of shoppers converge daily to prepare for the festivities.

US court sentences 21-year-old Ghanaian over $200 Snapchat sextortion scheme https://www.adomonline.com/us-court-sentences-21-year-old-ghanaian-over-200-snapchat-sextortion-scheme/ Tue, 23 Dec 2025 08:16:55 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2613267 A 21-year-old Ghanaian citizen, Cross Abu Cole, has been sentenced to time served of about seven months by a United States District Court after being convicted of interstate communications with intent to extort.

The sentence was handed down by U.S. District Judge Lawrence J. Vilardo in Buffalo, New York, following an announcement by the U.S. Attorney for the Western District of New York, Michael DiGiacomo. Cole has since been turned over to the Department of Homeland Security.

According to court records outlined by Assistant U.S. Attorney Aaron J. Mango, who handled the prosecution, the offence dates back to October 30, 2022.

Cole was said to have improperly accessed a Snapchat account belonging to an individual identified as the Victim and obtained nude photographs stored on the account.

Investigators said Cole subsequently contacted the Victim using a Google Voice telephone number and demanded a payment of $200. Prosecutors said he threatened that if the money was not paid, he would damage the Victim’s reputation by releasing the nude photographs to the Victim’s family and friends.

An initial payment of $200 was made via CashApp as instructed, but the Victim later cancelled the transaction. Despite this, the Victim later discovered that some of his Snapchat contacts had already received the nude photographs.

The case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation under the direction of the Special Agent in Charge, Philip Tejera.

U.S. authorities have not disclosed further details about immigration proceedings, but confirmed that Cole has been handed over to the Department of Homeland Security following the completion of his custodial sentence.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, disclosed this when he met with the family of the late Nana Agyei Ahyia at the Ministry earlier today, where he formally conveyed the government’s condolences and briefed them on steps taken so far.

He explained that the embassy-led fact-finding team was deployed promptly, given Germany’s concurrent accreditation to Latvia, and has since submitted a preliminary report to the Ministry.

Mr Ablakwa further revealed that Latvian authorities have confirmed that investigations into the circumstances leading to Nana Agyei Ahyia’s death are still ongoing and have not yet been concluded.

As part of efforts to deepen engagement, the Minister said he has formally notified the Latvian government of his decision to travel to Latvia to hold discussions with his counterpart and directly engage investigators handling the case.

He added that his imminent delegation to Latvia will include representatives of Nana Agyei Ahyia’s family to ensure their participation in the process.

The Minister also assured the family that the Government of Ghana will engage independent experts to analyse all investigative reports, particularly the expected final report from Latvian authorities, to guide government’s next steps in the interest of justice.

Mr Ablakwa reaffirmed the government’s commitment to transparency and accountability as it works to secure answers and closure for the bereaved family.

Mahama hails Constitutional Review Committee’s proposals as “revolutionary,” pledges bipartisan approach to reforms https://www.adomonline.com/mahama-hails-constitutional-review-committees-proposals-as-revolutionary-pledges-bipartisan-approach-to-reforms/ Mon, 22 Dec 2025 21:08:00 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2613114 President John Dramani Mahama has praised the work of the Constitutional Review Committee (CRC), describing its recommendations as bold, timely, and essential for deepening Ghana’s democratic system.

Speaking in Accra on Monday, December 22, after receiving the Committee’s final report, President Mahama acknowledged that some proposals may be seen as far-reaching but emphasized that they are necessary to strengthen governance and rebuild public trust in democratic institutions.

“I think that many of the recommendations you’ve made are quite revolutionary. Some are quite radical, but I think it’s in the interest of our democracy,” he said.

He added, “It is important for us to let our citizens know that democratic governance is still better than any other form of governance.”

President Mahama highlighted that democracy allows citizens the freedom to express themselves and realize their creative potential, unlike military or authoritarian systems where power is concentrated at the top. He also pointed to democratic setbacks in parts of the West African subregion, noting that Ghana’s proposed constitutional reforms come at a critical time to safeguard the country’s democratic credentials.

On implementation, he assured that the government will adopt a collaborative, bipartisan approach, engaging political parties and other stakeholders to implement as many recommendations as possible.

Regarding proposed changes to the Council of State, President Mahama said strengthening its role in presidential appointments would enhance transparency and credibility, while preserving the president’s constitutional authority.

The Constitutional Review Committee, chaired by Professor Henry Kwasi Prempeh, has proposed several major reforms, including:

Shortening election campaign periods to allow governments more time to focus on governance

Extending the presidential term from four to five years

Separating the Executive from Parliament

Restructuring the Council of State according to its 1969 framework

Redefining the role of chiefs in local governance

Depoliticising state-owned enterprises

Improving public sector appointment procedures

Splitting the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ) into separate human rights and anti-corruption bodies

Constitution Review Committee proposes five-year presidential term, rejects third-term option https://www.adomonline.com/constitution-review-committee-proposes-five-year-presidential-term-rejects-third-term-option/ Mon, 22 Dec 2025 16:18:44 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2613057 The Constitutional Review Committee (CRC) has recommended extending the presidential term from four to five years, arguing that the additional year would allow governments more time to govern effectively.

Presenting the Committee’s report to President John Dramani Mahama on Monday, December 22, CRC Chairman Professor Henry Kwasi Prempeh emphasized that the recommendation does not include a third-term option for presidents.

According to Prof. Prempeh, the Committee found no public demand or political appetite for a third term.

“We couldn’t find a place for a third term for the President,” he stated, adding that even President Mahama himself was not in favour of it.

The Committee deliberately avoided reopening debates on term limits, focusing instead on measures to improve governance efficiency. Prof. Prempeh explained that submissions from several eminent persons, including former presidents, highlighted that four years is often inadequate for meaningful governance.

The CRC also noted a growing global trend toward five-year presidential terms and pointed out that a substantial portion of a four-year term is lost to administrative transition and electioneering.

“The claim was that the President spends about six months settling into office and nearly a year campaigning,” Prof. Prempeh explained.

To address this, the Committee paired the proposed term extension with recommendations to regulate campaign seasons, aiming to curb prolonged political activity that distracts from governance.

The overarching objective, he added, is to give governments sufficient time to implement policies without constant campaign pressure.

2025 WASSCE: Chief Examiners’ report reveals many candidates failed to answer application-based questions https://www.adomonline.com/2025-wassce-chief-examiners-report-reveals-many-candidates-failed-to-answer-application-based-questions/ Mon, 22 Dec 2025 14:28:07 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2613042 The Chief Examiners’ report for the 2025 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) has revealed that a significant number of candidates struggled to answer application-based questions, contributing to the low grades recorded in the exams.

Figures released by the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) indicate that performance in all four core subjects has been the lowest in the past four years.

Speaking on the Edutalk show on Joy News, Education Minister Haruna Iddrisu said most of the candidates memorised the concepts but failed to apply them during the exams.

“What is important, after evaluating the examiner’s report, is that many of the learners struggle with application,” Mr Iddrisu explained. “They may have prepared by memorising concepts, but this year’s questions focused more on the application of what they’ve learned.”

He stressed the need for improvement in the delivery of secondary education, urging all stakeholders to commit to bettering the system. “I think that we should all commit to improving the provision of quality secondary education,” he added.

Similarly, Dr Peter Anti, Executive Director of the Institute for Education Studies, also discussed the challenges posed by the nature of the questions in an interview on the JoyNews Desk.

According to Dr Anti, many students struggled with core mathematics due to the format of the questions.

“I have spoken to most core math teachers, and one of the things that comes across in their responses to the challenges students face with core math is the fact that the questions were in word form instead of the normal numeric form,” Dr Anti explained.

“When questions are placed in that way, what it means is that the students have to first read and understand and then apply the very basic principles, whether it’s indices, whether it’s trigonometry, or whatever it is that they have learned, to the demands of the question before they will be able to answer,” he added.

Wontumi in fresh trouble https://www.adomonline.com/wontumi-in-fresh-trouble/ Mon, 22 Dec 2025 12:07:48 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2612984 The Attorney General and Minister for Justice, Dr Dominic Ayine, has announced that the state will prosecute Wontumi Farms and its directors over alleged financial crimes involving the Ghana Export-Import Bank (EXIM Bank).

According to Dr Ayine, investigations by the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) have established sufficient evidence to support charges of defrauding by false pretences, forgery, and causing financial loss to the state.

Addressing journalists in Accra on Monday, December 22, the Attorney General isclosed that the alleged financial loss currently stands at GHS24,255,735, representing the principal amount involved and accrued interest.

“In the face of the evidence we have gathered in this investigation, thoroughly conducted by EOCO, we have made the decision to prosecute Wontumi Farms and its directors with defrauding by false pretences, forgery and causing financial loss to the state in the sum of GHS24,255,735,” Dr Ayine said.

He noted, however, that the figure could increase before charges are formally filed due to compounding interest.

He explained that prosecution will begin after the Christmas break, once EXIM Bank confirms the final outstanding amount.

“This figure represents the principal sum plus the interest that has accrued so far. By the time we file charges, which will be definitely after the Christmas break, it might be that this figure would have increased because the interest on the principal keeps compounding.”

“So we will get the exact figure of the amount that is involved in this criminal enterprise from the EXIM Bank before we file charges in court,” he stated.,

The decision follows EOCO investigations into a loan transaction involving Wontumi Farms, linked to its director, Ashanti Regional New Patriotic Party(NPP) Chairman, Bernard Antwi Boasiako, widely known as Chairman Wontumi.

Dr Ayine earlier revealed that the company allegedly secured a GHS4 million loan from EXIM Bank using a forged document.

Investigators found that a document presented as a receipt from Casama Enterprise, purportedly confirming payment for heavy-duty farming and industrial equipment, including bulldozers and excavators, was in fact a proforma invoice.

According to the Attorney General, the word “invoice” was altered to read “receipt” and submitted to the bank as proof of payment.

The owner of Casama Enterprise later confirmed that no payment had been made and that only a proforma invoice had been issued to Wontumi Ghana Limited.

Dr Ayine added that despite assurances that the purchase would be completed, the transaction was never finalised.

The forged document, he said, falsely suggested that Casama Enterprise had received the full GHS4 million.

The Attorney General noted that the case underscores the government’s resolve to enforce accountability and safeguard state financial institutions from fraudulent practices.

He assured the public that the prosecution will proceed once all required documentation from EXIM Bank is finalised and filed in court.

Power outage hits parts of Greater Kumasi https://www.adomonline.com/power-outage-hits-parts-of-greater-kumasi/ Mon, 22 Dec 2025 12:03:48 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2612983 A temporary power outage has affected large parts of Greater Kumasi following a minor fault detected at the Ghana Grid Company (GRIDCo) on Sunday.

The fault led to a reduction in electricity supply to the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), resulting in power disruptions across several communities within the metropolis.

In a notice issued by the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly, GRIDCo and ECG indicated that technical teams from both institutions are working diligently to resolve the issue and restore power supply as quickly as possible.

The Assembly added that security patrols have been intensified in the affected areas to ensure public safety and maintain order during the outage.

Residents have been urged to remain calm and patient as repair works continue.

“We sincerely apologise for the inconvenience caused and thank you for your patience and cooperation,” the notice said.

High Court bars investigative journalist from publishing on private individual, imposes GH¢10,000 cost https://www.adomonline.com/high-court-bars-investigative-journalist-from-publishing-on-private-individual-imposes-gh%c2%a210000-cost/ Mon, 22 Dec 2025 11:13:11 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2612970 A High Court in Accra (Human Rights Division), presided over by Justice Nana Brew, has placed a perpetual injunction on freelance investigative journalist Innocent Samuel Appiah, restraining him from publishing or disseminating allegations against private individual Cynthia Adjei, following a privacy breach suit.

In addition to the injunction, the court awarded costs of GH¢10,000 against the journalist.

The ruling effectively bars Mr Appiah from pursuing any investigative publications or commentary linked to the subject matter of the case, whether directly or indirectly, across both traditional and digital media platforms.

In delivering the decision, Justice Brew held that while press freedom is constitutionally guaranteed, it is not absolute and must be exercised within the bounds of the law, particularly where individual rights and reputational interests are concerned.

The court emphasises that journalists have a responsibility to act with due diligence and within established legal and institutional frameworks.

The judge further noted that investigative journalists should channel allegations of criminal conduct to state institutions such as the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) and the Ghana Police Service, rather than unilaterally publishing potentially harmful claims.

Although the court refused the plaintiff’s request for damages, it found that the journalist’s actions exposed the plaintiff to reputational harm and granted the injunction to prevent further damage.

“From the totality of the evidence available, if the first respondent felt that the information was of public interest, he should not have sought the publication of them. Rather should have reported to the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO), the Police, CID or the National Intelligence Bureau to take up action, as publishing amounts to an invasion of the applicant’s privacy rights”.

“Thus, on a balancing exercise in the enforcement of Human rights provisions of the Constitution, this is a clear violation of the applicant’s rights as against the public interest”, the ruling said.

“In conclusion, the information 1st respondent is seeking from the applicant for publication is against her fundamental human rights, particularly her right to privacy”.

Background

In June 2025, Justice Brew granted an interlocutory injunction to Cynthia Adjei, CEO of Lysaro Group, preventing Mr Appiah from publishing a report on alleged unethical practices and potential conflicts of interest within the company.

The case arose after MMrAppiah sent a detailed questionnaire to Mr and Mrs Djei, seeking information on concerns about Lysaro Group’s business operations, including land acquisitions, contract awards, and tax compliance. Instead of responding, Mrs Mrsjei opted to seek legal intervention to block the report’s publication.

In granting the injunction, the judge cited the need to protect Mrs Adjei’s “fundamental human rights” and the “fear she has of the publication.” The judge further noted that the “balance of convenience” favoured the plaintiff, as damages would not suffice if the report were published, even though the story had not yet been written.

Mrs Adjei maintains that she is a private individual who has never held public office. However, the journalist highlighted that her husband previously served as Group Chief Finance Officer and later acting Managing Director at GOIL GH. Plc before leaving office this year. It is also alleged that Lysaro Group secured contracts from GOIL and the Students Loan Trust Fund, where her husband served as Board Chairman, making her a politically exposed person.

Mr Appiah did not publish any story against Mr and Mrs Deji but had only posed questions through private messages and letters as part of standard verification procedures before publication.

The ruling has sparked debate within media and legal circles, with press freedom advocates expressing concern over its implications for investigative journalism, while others argue it underscores the importance of responsible and lawful reporting.

The case contributes to ongoing national conversations about the limits of press freedom, the protection of individual rights, and the role of the courts in balancing public interest journalism with personal reputation.

2 nurses, security guard arrested over alleged baby theft at Tamale hospital https://www.adomonline.com/2-nurses-security-guard-arrested-over-alleged-baby-theft-at-tamale-hospital/ Mon, 22 Dec 2025 06:03:00 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2612685 The Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU) of the Northern Regional Police Command has arrested three people in connection with the theft of a newborn baby from One Heart Hospital in Tamale.

The arrests were made on Sunday, December 21.

The suspects include two nurses, Abubakari Fatima Bintu and Grace Asiedu Mensah, who were on duty at the time of the incident, and a security guard, Abukari Iddi.

The baby was taken after a woman, believed to be posing as a nurse, entered the labour ward and told staff she was taking the newborn to be given an injection.

She reportedly left the ward with the baby and did not return.

The Northern Regional Police Public Relations Officer, Inspector Alhassan Luckman Niendow, said intelligence-led operations are ongoing to locate the missing baby and arrest other suspects linked to the case. He said police are treating the matter with urgency.

Earlier, the baby’s mother, Abdul Mumin Safiyatu, told JoyNews that she had stepped out briefly to use the washroom. When she returned, she could not find her baby, triggering panic at the facility.

An eyewitness also told JoyNews that a woman entered the delivery room, claimed she was taking the baby for vital checks, and later disappeared with the child.

The baby’s father, Bawa Sayibu, said he received a call around 1:15 a.m. informing him that his wife had delivered a baby boy.

He said he later bought medicines needed for the baby before discharge and left the hospital around 10 a.m.

“I was sitting with my colleagues when my sister called me crying and asked me to rush to the hospital,” he said.

“When I arrived, I was told the baby had been stolen.”

Mr Sayibu added that police made arrests after the family reported the incident, including one of his wives who works at the hospital.

Following the incident, residents of Lamashegu besieged the hospital, demanding accountability.

Some residents expressed shock and raised concerns about security arrangements at health facilities, calling for stronger measures to protect patients and their families.

CLOGSAG threatens industrial action over delayed salary structure talks https://www.adomonline.com/clogsag-threatens-industrial-action-over-delayed-salary-structure-talks/ Fri, 19 Dec 2025 15:06:54 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2612201 The Civil and Local Government Staff Association, Ghana (CLOGSAG), has threatened to embark on industrial action over delays in the implementation of a newly agreed salary structure for its members.

According to the association, the salary structure was jointly negotiated with the Ministry of Labour, Jobs and Employment and captured in a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). However, CLOGSAG says the process has stalled, with no further engagement from the ministry, raising concerns among its members.

Addressing participants at the association’s Thanksgiving Service and 2025 Christmas Message event, the Deputy Executive Secretary of CLOGSAG, Kwame Krakani, expressed disappointment over the lack of communication from government officials.

He stressed that the association is awaiting urgent negotiations to prevent any disruption to public service delivery.

Mr. Krakani warned that continued silence from the government could force CLOGSAG to activate industrial action to protect the welfare and interests of its members.

The association reiterated its readiness to take all necessary steps should the government fail to return to the negotiation table and honour the terms contained in the MoU.
