The dredging operation is expected to restore the capacity of the storm drain to efficiently channel rainwater, particularly during periods of heavy rainfall.

The intervention is one of several flood mitigation measures being undertaken by the government following recent flooding incidents in parts of the country.

Large sections of the road network around the busy transport hub were inundated following hours of rainfall, forcing several commercial and private vehicles to either halt their journeys or divert to alternative routes.

Residents and commuters have repeatedly called for long-term solutions to prevent the recurring disruptions caused by heavy rainfall.

The tragic incident triggered a massive fire outbreak, prompting an emergency response from personnel of the Motorway, Ashaiman and Industrial Area Fire Stations.

According to the Ghana National Fire Service, firefighters successfully brought the blaze under control with support from a water tanker provided by the Ashaiman Municipal Assembly, preventing the fire from spreading further.

While three people were rescued from the scene and rushed to Tema General Hospital for treatment, the driver of the tipper truck was trapped in the wreckage and could not be saved.

Recovery operations were subsequently launched, with firefighters undertaking the difficult task of retrieving the charred body from the remains of the truck.

Personnel from the Ashaiman Police Command were also deployed to the scene to provide security and assist with recovery efforts.

A total of 345 returnees were received by government officials as part of an ongoing evacuation exercise aimed at bringing home Ghanaians who wish to leave South Africa amid growing anti-immigrant sentiment and security concerns.

The latest arrivals join hundreds of compatriots who were repatriated in the first phase of the operation. The first batch of approximately 300 evacuees arrived in Ghana on May 27.

The evacuation follows the government’s commitment to assist Ghanaians affected by the renewed wave of xenophobic incidents in South Africa, where reports of attacks, intimidation and destruction of property have heightened fears among foreign nationals.

According to officials, more than 1,500 Ghanaians have registered for repatriation, reflecting increasing concerns within the Ghanaian community in South Africa.

Speaking during the reception, the Minister for Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, assured the returnees that government was exploring legal avenues to seek compensation for losses suffered during the attacks.

“We are preparing legal action to secure compensation for items you may have lost in South Africa,” he stated.

In 2017, President Akufo-Addo announced the celebration will be rotated and held in each region annually.

Personnel from the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) were quickly deployed to the scene and managed to bring the blaze under control, preventing it from spreading to nearby structures.

Between live performances, the energy never waned, thanks to the masterful work of DJ Billy Ocean and Andy Dosty. The seasoned DJs became the heartbeat of the night, delivering seamless transitions, timeless highlife hits, and crowd-moving mixes that kept patrons engaged from the warm-up to the final moments.

One of the night’s standout moments came from legendary songstress Akosua Agyapong, whose powerful and electrifying performance set the Palms Convention Center ablaze, earning thunderous applause from an already ecstatic audience.

Veteran musician Samuel Owusu thrilled patrons with a high-energy performance that had the crowd on its feet from the start, while Adane Best’s appearance felt more like a heartfelt homecoming than a performance. His soulful Ga renditions were warmly received, earning admiration from the fully charged auditorium.

A deeply emotional moment followed when gospel musician Mavis Asante paid tribute to the late Maame Tiwaa. Her moving renditions of Maame Tiwaa’s timeless songs, including Tenabea Foforo and Yɛn Kan Kyɛrɛ Yɛn Agya, drew sustained applause and resonated deeply with patrons.

The atmosphere shifted into high gear when award-winning gospel singer Piesie Esther mounted the stage. She delivered an electrifying performance that had the audience on their feet, transforming the venue into a vibrant celebration of praise and Christmas joy.

The highlight of the evening, however, was a compelling stage play depicting the birth of Jesus Christ. The drama featured an array of celebrated Kumawood stars, including Michael Afranie, Kala Kumasi, Christina Awuni, Kofi Adjorlolo, Oboy Siki and others, delivering a powerful reminder of the true meaning of Christmas.

The initiative aims to ensure that workplaces, commercial centres, and public facilities adhere to required fire safety standards as economic activities intensify under the new policy.

Speaking during the inspections, Chief Fire Officer Daniella Mawusi Ntow Sarpong warned that the Service would not hesitate to enforce the law against facilities that fail to meet fire safety requirements.

As part of the nationwide exercise, the inspection team visited several facilities in the Osu area, including a fuel station and its supermarket, the Ecobank branch at Osu, Papaye Fast Food, and the Osu Night Market. Officers checked the availability and functionality of fire extinguishers and engaged operators on preventive measures and emergency response procedures in the event of a fire outbreak.

The team later visited the Cantonments Prisons Service, where an early-morning fire had destroyed several shops. Officers assessed the scene and engaged with affected traders, providing guidance on safety measures to help prevent a recurrence.

What began as a calm, expectant atmosphere quickly intensified as contestants battled through the elimination rounds. Spectators witnessed gripping matchups, bold moves, and dramatic turnarounds as players fought to keep their tournament hopes alive. By the final rounds, the Hall was fully charged, with cheers and suspense filling every corner.

At the end of the fierce contest, Alfred Quaigrain emerged as champion, taking 1st place along with a ₵10,000 cash prize for his exceptional performance.

Patrons resonated with Nautyca as he treated the crowd to some of his best-known hits, including “Social Media” featuring Sarkodie and his 2020 favourite, “Jeje.”

The musical performances kept the crowd on their feet all day, but the energy peaked when Samini took the stage, reminding everyone why he is one of Ghana’s most consistent and electrifying live performers.

He kicked off his set with crowd favourites like “Obra” and “My Own,” sparking a nostalgic sing-along, before turning up the energy with hits such as “Where My Baby Dey,” “Gyae Shi,” and “Obaa.” Each performance drew thunderous applause and cheers, with even the Adom FM presenters joining in on the dance.

Shatta Wale, born Charles Nii Armah Mensah Jr., was interrogated by EOCO on Wednesday 20th August in connection with investigations into the tax status of a yellow Lamborghini Urus.

He was however, granted GH₵ 10 million with two sureties, but remain in custody as his legal team and management work to meet the bail requirements.

The detention follows the seizure of the luxury car in early August 2025 in ongoing by EOCO, in collaboration with the U.S. Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) into a suspected stolen vehicle.

The incident has since set social media buzzing, with “Free Shatta Wale” trending across various platforms as supporters and industry colleagues react to the arrest.

The festival, which symbolizes victory over hunger, serves as a reminder of the resilience, heritage, and identity of the Ga State.

This year’s celebration commenced with the Gbese Mantse, Nii Ayi-Bonte II, performing the traditional sprinkling of Kpokpoi—a sacred cornmeal dish—from the historic Usher Fort through the main streets of Ga Mashie, ending at the Gbese Palace.

As part of the festivities, Ga Mantse King Tackie Teiko Tsuru II carried out the customary sprinkling of Kpokpoi across various Ga stool houses. The occasion was marked by spirited drumming, energetic dancing, and musket fire, all of which heightened the festive atmosphere.

The solemn state funeral took place at Black Star Square in Accra on Friday, August 25, 2025, drawing a large gathering of mourners, including government officials, Members of Parliament, security chiefs, religious leaders, and diplomats.

The coffins, draped in the national flag, symbolised the nation’s respect and gratitude. Bereaved families broke down in tears as they took turns reading heartfelt tributes to their loved ones.

Two of the victims—Minister for Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation, Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed, and Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator, Alhaji Limuna Muniru Mohammed—were laid to rest on August 10. The remaining six—Defence Minister Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, Samuel Aboagye, National Democratic Congress (NDC) Vice Chairman Dr. Samuel Sarpong, Squadron Leader Peter Bafemi Anala, Flying Officer Manin Twum-Ampadu, and Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah—were buried on August 15.

In recognition of their sacrifice, President John Mahama announced a posthumous promotion of the three crew from the Ghana Armed Forces.

Late Squadron Leader Peter Baafemi Anala has been promoted to Wing Commander, late Flying Officer Manaen Twum-Ampadu is now Flight Lieutenant, and late Sergeant Mensah Addo Ernest is now Flight Sergeant.

During the state funeral, President Mahama expressed heartfelt sentiments, describing the fallen servicemen as true patriots who paid the ultimate price while bravely fulfilling their duties. He emphasized that their unwavering dedication, courage, and sacrifice would forever be inscribed in the nation’s collective memory.

Vice President Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, in her tribute, painted a vivid picture of the potential futures that could have been, filled with hard work, planning, and fruitful progress toward Ghana’s national agenda, instead of a somber gathering marked by sorrow.

She fondly recalled the victims’ unwavering determination to serve their country, their commitment to reporting on advancements, addressing challenges, and adapting strategies when necessary.

Acknowledging the harsh reality of life with the phrase, “man proposes, God disposes,” she underscored the unpredictability of existence.

Among the dignitaries in attendance were President John Mahama, Vice President Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, former President Nana Akufo-Addo, National Chief Imam Osman Nuhu Sharubutu, former President John Agyekum Kufuor, various Ministers of State, the Chief of Defence Staff, the Inspector-General of Police, and many others, each paying their respects and standing in solidarity with the families of the fallen heroes.

This solemn ceremony was part of the official three-day national mourning period declared by President John Mahama to honour the memories of the eight individuals, including prominent figures such as Defence Minister Dr. Edward Omane Boamah and Environment Minister Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, along with six others who lost their lives when a Ghana Air Force helicopter went down in the Adansi-Akrofuom District on August 6, 2025.

During his heartfelt address at the event, President Mahama urged Ghanaians to unite in their grief and draw strength from the legacies of the eight individuals who had dedicated their lives to public service.

He described them as a “guiding light” during this profound moment of national sorrow, emphasizing the need to remember their contributions to the nation.

The President also announced burial rites for the two Muslim victims — former Minister for Environment Dr. Ibrahim Mohammed Murtala and former Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator Alhaji Muniru Limuna Mohammed. These rites, in accordance with Islamic traditions and customs, are set to take place on Sunday, August 10, 2025, allowing the community to pay their respects in a manner befitting their faith.

The evening’s memorial proceedings served as a poignant lead-up to the state funeral scheduled for Friday, August 15, 2025, at the iconic Black Star Square. This event will include an interdenominational service, where people from various faiths and backgrounds will come together to bid a final farewell to the victims, celebrating their lives and the impact they made on the nation.

Present at the event were President John Dramani Mahama, First Lady Lordina Mahama, Vice President Prof. Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, President of Sierra Leone Julius Maada Bio, former President John Agyekum Kufuor, former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, Speaker of Parliament Rt. Hon. Alban Kingsford Bagbin, as well as several members of the executive, ministers, and Members of Parliament from both the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the New Patriotic Party (NPP). The families of the eight departed souls and members of the public were also in attendance.

The ceremony formed part of a three-day national mourning period declared by the government to honour the memory of the deceased, which includes two senior government officials — Defence Minister Dr. Edward Omane Boamah and Environment Minister Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed — as well as senior military personnel and party officials.

The ceremony drew a diverse crowd, including family members of the deceased, senior government officials, military personnel, and members of the public, all standing together in solemn solidarity amid shared sorrow.

The three-day mourning period will climax on Saturday, August 9, with an “Evening of Reflections and Memorials” at the Forecourt of the State House — a gathering anticipated to be steeped in remembrance and reverence.

The tragic incident took place in the vicinity of Sikaman, near Adansi Akrofuom in the Ashanti Region.

Upon their arrival at the Air Force Base in Accra, the bodies were received with the utmost respect by a delegation of government officials led by Chief of Staff Julius Debrah, alongside members of the Military High Command and several sympathizers.

The unfortunate event has elicited profound sorrow throughout the nation, as many Ghanaians mourn the loss of dedicated servicemen and public servants who lost their lives while fulfilling their duties.

According to a statement issued by Captain Veronica Adzo Arhin, Acting Director General of Public Relations for the Ghana Air Force, the remains have been transferred to the 37 Military Hospital for the necessary burial arrangements to be made.

The event was a nostalgic reunion that brought together individuals who played significant roles in shaping the company’s history and its current enviable performance and growth in the media industry in Ghana.

The company, which started with Joy FM, now boasts of six FM stations, three television stations, and two online portals.

The meeting was held in the serene beach environment of the Best Western Plus Beach Hotel at Teshie Nungua.

Mr Kwasi Twum, in simple black trousers and a customised Multimedia long-sleeved white shirt, was warmly welcomed by the individuals gathered.

In his opening remarks, he expressed gratitude to the former employees for their contributions to the company’s growth and success. “This year, we celebrate not only our 30 years of operation but also the people who gave their best at the time.

The event, which was the first of its kind that the company has organised, was not just a get-together but a celebration of Kwasi Twum’s legacy and gathering of former employees to reminisce about their time at Multimedia Group with the founder.

The event was a historic moment as those workers had not met to fraternise with their Mr Twum in a long time.

Some of the notable among them were Doreen Andoh, the current host of Joy FM’s Midmorning Show, Cosmopolitan Mix, Rev. Azigiza Junior, Kojo Opong Nkrumah, Member of Ofoase Ayirebi constituency, Adwoa Aidoo, Theresa Ayoade, Charles  Mensah, Euginia Takyi Menson, Kofi Owusu, Oswald Mensah, Saforo, Andrews Arkolah, Samuel Tettey Watson, Vincent Lawson, Kingsley Kow Woode, Lawrence Opoku Acheampong, Ivy Heward Mils, Ann Anan, Clemencia Jameh, Gifty Ekyi Quarm, Nii Armah Dagadu, Mawulie Oklu, and Evelyn Owusu Carr.

The CEO, in his opening remarks, expressed gratitude to the former employees for their contributions to the company’s growth and success. “Today, we celebrate not only our 30 years of operation but also the people who have been instrumental in our journey,” he said.

He said he feels blessed that he got a wonderful team to join him in the very early stages of his company, adding that it wouldn’t have been successful without them.

He said his first experience running and managing people was very challenging because he was completely clueless about that.

He disclosed that when he started the company, he saw that he had been surrounded by amazing, complex, crazy, completely clueless young people who caused him sleepless nights and that compelled him to be a teacher, figuring out more workable strategies.

The night provided an opportunity for former employees to share stories about their experiences working at the Multimedia Group.

They recounted memorable moments, challenges they overcame, and the lessons learned during their tenure.

Mr Kwasi Twum reaffirmed the company’s commitment to innovation, quality, and excellence, emphasising that the Multimedia Group will continue to strive for greatness in its compelling content to serve its audiences in the years ahead. “As we look to the future, we remain dedicated to our mission of informing, entertaining, and educating our audience,” he said.

The event was a testament to the strong bonds formed within the company and the lasting impact of its work. Former employees left with a sense of pride, knowing that their contributions had helped shape the company’s legacy.

As Multimedia Group looks to the future, it does so with a deep appreciation for its past and a renewed commitment to excellence.

When the first  Financial Officer, Maxwell Ansah took his turn, he described Mr Kwasi Twum as Ghana’s Ted Turner.

He said Mr Kwasi Twum is a visionary businessman who can turn the fortunes of small companies.
