Asempa FM’s Paapa Ayekoo celebration once again brought to light the exceptional contributions of men, with a heartfelt focus on thanking fathers for their selfless roles in family and society.

The event kicked off with a notable initiative by the Executive Prostate Center, which organized a complimentary health screening for fathers from all over the country in honor of this year’s Father’s Day.

This initiative aimed not only to promote health awareness but also to highlight the importance of preventive care among men.

Following the health screening, the excitement continued with a lively cooking competition titled Daddy Too Can Cook. This contest aimed to showcase the culinary skills of fathers, drawing attention to their creativity in the kitchen. Among the contestants were two popular presenters from Adom FM, Mick 2 and OPD, who teamed up with enthusiastic fathers.

The month-long ban on drumming and noisemaking in the Ga State has officially been lifted, marking a significant milestone in the lead-up to this year’s Homowo Festival.

The ban, which was enforced on May 12, was lifted on Thursday, June 12, 2025, following the successful completion of customary rites by the traditional authorities.

These rituals, deeply rooted in Ga heritage, are essential to the cultural observance and preparation for the festival.

The ceremonial conclusion of the rites featured the Gbese Mantse, Nii Ayi-Bonte II, who symbolically beat the Odadao twin drums at the Gbese Palace.

The vibrant occasion was accompanied by jubilant shouts, symbolizing triumph over adversity and the anticipation of abundance.

The Homowo Festival—meaning “hooting at hunger”—is a vibrant celebration of the Ga people’s resilience and unity. It typically follows a period of reflection, marked by the ban on drumming and noisemaking, in honor of ancestral customs and in preparation for the festivities ahead.

Eid ul-Adha, known as the Festival of Sacrifice, is regarded as one of the most important observances within the Islamic calendar. This significant occasion commemorates the readiness of Prophet Ibrahim (Abraham) to sacrifice his son in obedience to God’s command.

On Friday, June 6, Muslims throughout the country congregated at Black Star Square to observe Eid ul-Adha, the Festival of Sacrifice.

Attendees adorned themselves in vibrant attire, with Muslim women showcasing their fashion sense through colorful combinations, creating an impressive visual display. The men also exhibited their style, particularly through traditional kaftans.

President John Dramani Mahama announced bold plans to significantly reduce the cost of Hajj for Ghanaian pilgrims and formally institute an additional public holiday for Muslims.

Delivering his speech ,he acknowledged the financial strain many families endure in their quest to fulfill the religious obligation of Hajj.

He said that although his team had managed to reduce fares marginally this year, there’s room for far greater relief.

“I want to assure you that we are working closely with relevant agencies and our Saudi counterparts. If the current trend continues, I am optimistic that next year we will see a very significant drop in the Hajj fare,” Mahama declared.

The National Chief Imam, Sheikh Osman Nuhu Sharubutu, has issued a clarion call for an end to the violence in Gaza and other conflict-affected regions. He implored Ghanaians and the global community to engage in moral renewal, demonstrate genuine sacrifice, and foster interfaith unity.

Dr. Sharubutu emphasized the importance of reflection among Muslims regarding the moral significance of their celebrations. He noted that the true value of these observances lies in their ability to inspire meaningful transformation and promote a shift from negativity to positivity in the best interest of society.

He cautioned that without this commitment, the virtues of Eid risk becoming mere superficial rituals.

AMA cracks down on traders returning during Day 3 of decongestion exercise [Photos]

On Thursday, May 22, officials from the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA), accompanied by police and national security personnel, continued their city-wide decongestion campaign, focusing on monitoring and enforcement.

After two days of clearing unauthorized structures, evicting street vendors, and restoring order to major parts of the capital, the operation shifted gears today.

The Mayor of Accra, Michael Kpakpo, led teams patrolling previously cleared areas to ensure traders and transport operators did not return to obstruct the streets.

From Circle to the Central Business District, AMA officers closely monitored hotspots where encroachment had been rife.

The Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) has stepped up its decongestion drive as of Wednesday, May 21, targeting the busy Circle Neoplan Station.

This operation forms part of an ongoing initiative to ease congestion in the capital by removing unauthorized structures, enforcing sanitation regulations, and regulating street vendors.

The main focus of the operation is to systematically clear illegal constructions and relocate street vendors occupying areas meant for pedestrian and vehicular movement.

Alongside enforcing traffic and sanitation laws, the initiative aims to improve safety and ease movement in high-traffic zones. AMA officials emphasize the importance of restoring order and ensuring adherence to city planning regulations vital for the integrity of Accra’s urban environment.

The campaign, which began on Tuesday, May 20, initially targeted areas around the AMA Head Office and extended along key routes including Kinbu Road to Railways, from the ECG Junction to the King Tackie Tawiah Statue, and from Opera Square to Adabraka. These areas have been identified as hotspots for street vending and severe traffic congestion, necessitating immediate intervention.

Authorities have called on traders and commuters to cooperate fully with the taskforce to avoid conflicts during the enforcement process.

The Assembly also highlighted issues such as illegal electrical connections and the occupation of public spaces as makeshift residences, with individuals setting up mattresses and personal belongings in these areas.

AMA remains committed to transforming Accra into a cleaner and safer city. Officials stressed the urgent need to demolish illegal structures encroaching on bus stops, which are intended solely for passenger transit. An AMA representative noted, “Supermarkets have taken over these areas, severely disrupting public access.”

The Assembly has set strict guidelines that all bus stops in Accra must remain free from unauthorized activities and be maintained exclusively for public transport use, in line with sanitation and safety standards. “The primary goal is to ensure that all bus stops remain accessible for public use,” the representative added.

“All sanitation mandates must be upheld according to AMA standards. This focused effort at Circle Neoplan is just the beginning; similar initiatives will be rolled out at other bus stops that have been converted into trading zones,” the representative concluded.

The Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA), in collaboration with the Korle Klottey Municipal Assembly, on Tuesday, May 20, embarked on a decongestion exercise aimed at restoring order and improving sanitation across the capital city, Accra.

The initiative forms part of a broader, long-term strategy to improve sanitation and ensure the free movement of both pedestrians and vehicles within the capital city.

Mayor Michael Kpakpo Allotey emphasized that the exercise is not a one-off action but a sustainable solution geared towards restoring order, especially in the Central Business District (CBD).

During the first phase of the operation, special attention was given to the surroundings of the AMA Head Office, where teams engaged vendors and directed them to vacate unauthorized stalls blocking pedestrian access.

At Kwame Nkrumah Circle, street vendors operating on pavements were asked to dismantle their setups to create clear walkways. Additionally, vehicles parked along the main roads were ordered to move, while individuals occupying spaces beneath the overhead bridge were also instructed to vacate.

A separate inspection at the VIP terminal revealed a heavy buildup of refuse, prompting officials to demand immediate action. Terminal management was instructed to address the sanitation issues without delay.

Mayor Allotey warned that on their next visit, failure to comply with sanitation directives would attract severe consequences, underscoring the city authorities’ firm stance on maintaining cleanliness and order in all public areas.

Photos from Opposition parties’ protest against Chief Justice’s suspension

On Monday, May 5, 2025, a significant demonstration was held by supporters of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) alongside members of various minority parties, dubbed the “Save the Judiciary Demo,” in response to the suspension of the Chief Justice by President Mahama.

The demonstration began at the Supreme Court, where leaders presented a formal petition addressed to the Judiciary.

Participants, dressed in red attire, including armbands and headgear, marched in substantial numbers through the main streets of Accra.

After their initial gathering at the Supreme Court, the demonstrators proceeded to Parliament to submit a second petition before ending with a final submission at the Jubilee House.

The petition was received by Mr. Ebenezer Ahumah Djietror, the Clerk to Parliament, on behalf of Parliament, while Mr. Stan Dogbe, Deputy Chief of Staff for Operations, accepted the petition on behalf of the President.

Presenting a petition on behalf of the group, Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin claimed that President Mahama has “weaponised the security services,” deploying them in “retrogressive PNDC-style raids” targeting the homes of political opponents.

“Private citizens, including former Governor of the Bank of Ghana, Dr. Ernest Addison, and former Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta, have had their properties seized, their rights violated, and their dignities stripped,” he added.

He also accused the government of hypocrisy, noting that while it had previously criticised the expansion of the Supreme Court, it had now appointed seven new judges under questionable circumstances.

“You know the process of appointing judges to the Supreme Court is not what has been used. So this reset is a negative reset,” he said, urging judicial staff not to remain complacent.

Mr. Afenyo-Markin further cautioned against political vengeance.

“I also want to take this opportunity to draw the attention of the nation to come to terms with the fact that there must be an end to bitterness. If this vicious cycle of ‘you did it to me; I will do it to you’ continues, there will be no hope for our democracy,” he said.

He warned that such partisan actions could have future consequences for current judicial staff, especially with the possibility of a new government in 2028.

“I am humbly calling on all Judicial Service staff to think deeply about tomorrow. Don’t be too comfortable because today some government officials are promising you promotions, so you don’t want to speak out. We will speak up for the sake of posterity,” he added.

The NPP was joined by several allied political parties, including the Liberal Party of Ghana (LPG), National Democratic Party (NDP), People’s National Party (PNP), and the Ghana Union Movement (GUM).

The 2025 Adom Kwahu Easter Festival concluded with remarkable success, leaving behind a legacy of unforgettable experiences throughout Kwahu Obomeng and its surrounding areas.

Sponsored by Guinness, the four-day event commenced with an energetic jam session at the Linda Dor rest stop, effectively setting the tone for a unique celebration.

Obomeng came alive with the highly anticipated Akwaaba Bash at Adom Park, the official welcome party. This event marked the beginning of a weekend filled with continuous entertainment, attracting audiences from various locations.

The energy escalated as two prominent dance groups—AT Dancers and the enthusiastic DUP Stars—took to the stage.

President John Dramani Mahama urged the residents of Bawku in the Upper East Region to embrace peace as they celebrate Ramadan.

He emphasized that this holy month is a time for unity and reconciliation.

Addressing the ongoing tensions in Bawku, the President appealed to all factions to set aside their differences and work together toward lasting peace.

“Finally, as we celebrate this Ramadan, I want to urge my brothers and sisters in Bawku to give peace a chance. Ramadan is a period for togetherness,” he stated.

Scores pay last respects as Wulomei’s Naa Amanua is buried in mic-shaped coffin [Photos]

Legendary Ghanaian traditional singer, Naa Amanua Dodoo, widely known as Naa Amanua of the iconic Wulomei band, has been laid to rest.

She was buried in a microphone-shaped coffin.

The solemn ceremony which drew mourners from far and near took place on Saturday, March 29, 2025.

Her mortal remains were laid in state for viewing and filing past at the forecourt of the State House where family, friends, and fans gathered to pay their final respects to the iconic musician.

The sombre occasion was filled with tributes, as people from all walks of life gathered to honour a woman whose life was intricately woven into the fabric of Ghanaian music.

In attendance were traditional authorities, players in the creative artistes industry, members of the Musician Union of Ghana (MUSIGA) , Deputy Chief of Staff, Nana Oye Bampoe, La Dadekotopon MP, Rita Naa Odoley Sowah among others.

Following the burial on March 29, a thanksgiving service will be held on Sunday, March 30, at the Believers Sanctuary International, Jehovah Nissi Church at La.

Naa Amanua passed away on December 17, 2024, at the University of Ghana Medical Centre in Legon, leaving behind a legacy that resonated deeply within Ghana’s vibrant music scene.

She hailed from a family steeped in musical heritage with her father as a talented guitarist, and her mother a prolific dancer and singer.

This rich musical background played a pivotal role in shaping her passion for music from a very young age.

Growing up in an environment where rhythm, melody, and performance were a natural part of life, she nurtured a love for music that would go on to define her career.

Throughout her life, Naa Amanua was not just a performer but a symbol of Ghana’s cultural heritage.

As the lead singer of Wulomei, she helped bring traditional folk percussion music into the spotlight, ensuring its place in both the hearts of Ghanaians and the broader global audience.

Her unique voice and stage presence made her a standout figure in the music scene.

A host of Ga songs she featured on include , “Mebe shi Dinn” , “Takoradi” , “Akosua Serwa” , “Kpeshi wei” , “Woo we loo , “Medofo Taylar” , “Kaafo Ni moko kwe odaa” , “Sisa he le” , “Awo Deme” among others.

President John Mahama on Friday, March 14, 2025, swore in COP Christian Tetteh Yohuno as the new Inspector-General of Police (IGP) during a brief ceremony at the Jubilee House.

In his speech, President Mahama stressed the importance of building a police service that earns the public’s trust, praising COP Yohuno’s integrity and dedication to the service.

COP Yohuno succeeds Dr. George Akuffo-Dampare, who had served as Ghana’s youngest IGP since his appointment on August 1, 2021, but was relieved of his duties on March 13, 2025.

With this appointment, COP Yohuno becomes the 24th IGP of Ghana since the country’s independence. Prior to this role, he served as the Deputy IGP in charge of operations within the Ghana Police Service.

Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson on Tuesday, March 11, 2025, presented the 2025 Budget Statement and Economic Policy to Parliament.

This marks the first comprehensive financial roadmap introduced by the Mahama administration since taking office.

The highly anticipated budget includes significant policy measures aimed at stabilizing the economy, promoting growth, and addressing ongoing fiscal challenges.

Among the key announcements was the cancellation of several levies, including the Emissions Tax.

Dr. Forson also outlined plans to review the Value Added Tax (VAT) system, which will eventually lead to the abolition of the COVID-19 levy, though no specific timeline was provided.

He emphasized that the removal of several taxes aligns with the government’s manifesto commitments.

These include:

Abolishing the 10% tax on lottery winnings
Eliminating the 10% withholding tax on betting
Removing VAT on motor vehicle insurance policies
Scrapping the 1.5% withholding tax on processed gold for small-scale miners

“The removal of these taxes will ease the burden on households and improve their disposable income. It will support business growth and enhance tax compliance,” Dr. Forson stated.

He also addressed concerns about over 300 pharmacists who have not received their salaries since their employment by the state. He pledged immediate action to resolve the issue, stating that the 321 pharmacists employed since June 2023 deserve to be compensated for their services.

Furthermore, the Finance Minister highlighted financial allocations for various sectors in the 2025 budget, prioritizing education, infrastructure, social protection, and disaster relief. These allocations aim to support economic recovery, address urgent concerns, and lay a foundation for sustainable long-term growth.

The forecourt of Multimedia was a hub of excitement on Independence Day as hundreds of people gathered for the much-anticipated Fufu Party, eager to enjoy their favorite Ghanaian delicacy.

Patrons lined up with their earthenware bowls, known as “asanka” or “apɔtɔ yiwa,” ready to be served for free. The aroma of various soups filled the air, adding to the anticipation as guests indulged in the rich culinary experience.

This year’s edition coincided with Ghana’s 68th Independence Day, making the celebration even more vibrant.

Per the program’s arrangements, attendees only needed their asanka to be served, reinforcing the event’s tradition of bringing people together through food. The much-anticipated fufu bazaar attracted a diverse mix of guests eager to savor different soups prepared by experienced chefs.

The entertainment lineup was equally thrilling, setting the perfect mood for the day.

Highlife legend Samuel Owusu was the first to take the stage, treating fans to his timeless hits like Yenka Wo Nite No, Mempe Me Ho Asem, and Kokosakyi, getting the crowd singing and dancing along.

Gospel musician Queen Esther followed with a soul-stirring performance, her powerful voice resonating with the audience. She delivered an uplifting set that left patrons in awe.

Joyce Blessing then took over the stage, lighting up the event with her energetic performance. The gospel sensation delivered back-to-back hits, getting fans on their feet as they danced and worshipped.

Comedian MJ brought a lighter touch to the celebration with his hilarious performance. He highlighted Ghana’s progress over the years with his witty jokes, blending humor with a sense of national pride.

Reggae/Dancehall star Ras Kuuku closed the show with an electrifying performance. His mix of classic reggae sounds and modern influences got the crowd dancing and singing along.

The atmosphere was filled with excitement as he shared his thought-provoking lyrics, highlighting Ghanaian culture and unity.

For the first time in Ghana’s history, the country’s Independence Day celebration was held at the Jubilee House, marking a significant shift from tradition.

Independence Day, which commemorates Ghana’s liberation from British colonial rule on 6 March 1957 under Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, has traditionally been observed at the Black Star Square and, in recent years, rotated among regional capitals. However, the 68th anniversary was notably scaled down.

The ceremony was attended by President John Mahama, Vice President Prof. Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, former Presidents Akufo-Addo and John Agyekum Kufuor, and the former President of Tanzania.

This year’s theme, Reflect, Review, Reset, urged Ghanaians to evaluate the nation’s progress, assess its current state, and chart a path for the future. Unlike the usual large crowds at the Black Star Square, this year’s celebration was limited to a select group of guests.

The event featured a Military Guard of Honour, cultural performances by schoolchildren, and a poetry recital by a senior high school student.

Photos from 77th anniversary of 28th February Crossroads shooting incident

The solemn flag-raising and wreath-laying ceremony is held every year to honor the three ex-servicemen—Sergeant Adjetey, Corporal Attipoe, and Private Odartey Lamptey—who were killed in 1948 by colonial police while marching to Osu Castle to present a petition to the then Governor and Commander-in-Chief, Sir Gerald Creasy.

This tragic incident, which took place on February 28, 1948, is remembered as a heroic act of defiance against colonial rule.

The unarmed ex-servicemen were fatally shot by Superintendent Colin Imray as they peacefully led their march to Osu Castle.

Having fought valiantly in World War II as part of the Gold Coast Regiment of the Royal West African Frontier Force, they were demanding their rightful compensation from the British authorities.

Their untimely deaths sparked nationwide protests, significantly fueling the independence movement and bolstering the resolve of key nationalists, including the Big Six, in their quest for self-rule.

Their sacrifice ultimately played a crucial role in Ghana achieving independence on March 6, 1957.

During this year’s ceremony, Her Excellency the Vice President, Prof. Naana Jane Opoku Agyeman, laid a wreath on behalf of the government and the people of Ghana.

The Minister for the Interior, Mubarak Mohammed Muntaka, and the Minister of Defence, Edward Omane Boamah, were also in attendance, alongside other officials, for the 77th Anniversary of the 28th February 1948 Christiansburg Crossroad Shooting at the Freedom Monument in Osu, Accra.

Among the attendees were the Chief of Defence Staff, Thomas Oppong-Peprah, the Chief of Osu Alata, Nii Kobina Bonnie V, and several heads of the security services, all of whom contributed to making the ceremony a profound tribute.

The ceremony concluded with a dramatic reenactment at the intersection where the tragic shooting occurred.

“30 years of joyfulness; grateful hearts, Christ at work” was the chorus of the Kokomlemle-based media giant.

This year, The Multimedia Group celebrates 30 years of fearless, independent, credible, and excellent journalism, a milestone similarly celebrated by Joy FM.

The joyful occasion brought together personnel, board members, and other stakeholders at the Victory Bible Church – Prophetic Sanctuary in Kokomlemle, Accra.

Led by The Multimedia Choir with support from Perez Musik, the group celebrated with dance and gratitude, thanking God for His protection and unwavering love throughout the year.

For his part, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of The Multimedia Group Limited, Kwasi Twum, stated that the company has come this far by the grace of God.

In spite of challenges, Mr. Twum emphasised that he will forever be grateful, reflecting on how he started with and met many companies in existence, but some fell along the way.

He acknowledged two pioneers still with the company: host of Joy FM’s Cosmopolitan Mix Doreen Andoh and Rev. Yaw Owusu Ansah, for their dedication and commitment throughout the 30 years.

In a short exhortation, the host of Adom FM Adom Ahengua, Bishop Yaw Owusu Ansah, referenced Genesis 32:10 to recount the small beginnings of the company.

As one of the pioneers and the first voice on Joy FM, he noted that it was a challenging journey and that he never envisaged a 30th anniversary celebration.

Bishop Owusu emphasised that God has sustained MGL and made the company relevant among its competitors because He has always been the foundation.

The renowned man of God commended KT for not abandoning the dream of establishing the company when God directed him, but for seeing it through to fruition.

“The success and progress of Multimedia have been the result of Mr. Kwasi Twum’s encounter with God, and that is why we are where we are,” he added.

He expressed optimism for the years ahead, stressing that God’s kindness, mercy, and faithfulness will be the driving force.

Speaking during his vetting, Dr. Forson emphasized that the NDC has always supported road toll collection and intends to restore it.

Hundreds of National Democratic Congress (NDC) supporters flooded the streets of the party headquarters in Adabraka on Monday evening, celebrating the victory of their presidential candidate, John Dramani Mahama in the 2024 election.

The jubilant crowd began trooping into the office hours before the the Electoral Commission(EC) officially declared Mr. Mahama as the president-elect .

The celebration was marked by jubilation, chants, and songs with party faithful dressed in NDC-branded attire and other paraphernalia.

The scene was a vibrant display of joy and unity.

Many expressed relief and gratitude, saying the victory was long overdue.

Former President Mahama’s triumph represent hope for a better future for Ghanaians.

During the declaration, the EC Chairperson, Jean Mensa announced that they are yet to receive results from nine constituencies.

However, these results she said will not influence the electoral outcome in 267 constituencies.

Mrs Mensa explained that, Mr. Mahama obtained 6,328,397, constituting 56.55%.

Ghanaians headed to the polls on Saturday 7th December 2024 in their ninth democratic election since 1992.

Voters across the country started queuing as early as dawn to exercise their franchise, in the presidential and parliamentary elections.

Voting process largely was peaceful despite isolated incidents of violence that reportedly led to death and injuries.

A fatal shooting occurred in the Northern Region and the Awutu Senya East constituency.

The Police have since arrested some people in connection with the separate incidents.

The Electoral Commission(EC) on Monday, December 2, 2024, held the Special Voting exercise for the 2024 election at various centres.

It was a smooth process held in 14 out of the 16 regions nationwide.

The Eastern and Western Regions were exempted from the process due to an alleged breach of security seals of ballot papers.

The exercise is a critical aspect, allowing security personnel, media practitioners, and election officials who will be on duty during the general election on December 7 polls to vote early.

Approximately 131,478 voters, constituting 0.007 percent of the total registered voters of 18,741,159, were expected to take part.

The special voting in the Eastern and Western Regions has been rescheduled to Thursday, December 5.

The postponement is to allow the EC recall and reprint the ballot papers for the regions to ensure a transparent and credible election.

The Zongo Community Came Together to Celebrate Their Rich Culture and Promote Peace and Togetherness Ahead of the December 7th General Election

Dubbed the Zongo Fair, it was a maiden two-day event that took place on Saturday, November 23rd, and Sunday, November 24th, at Accra New Town.

Saturday’s Event

The event kicked off with a launch, during which various chiefs from the Zongo community preached peace before, during, and after the elections. The ceremony also included an awards presentation, where key members of the Zongo community received citations for their outstanding contributions.

The evening was capped off with an exciting boxing match/show.

Sunday’s Event

Sunday’s activities began with a vibrant street art exhibition that showcased the community’s creative talent. The event culminated in an entertaining concert featuring performances by Wendy Shay and Ras Kuuku.

President Akufo-Addo on Wednesday 20th November 2024 commissioned the new state-of-the-art headquarters of the Bank of Ghana(BoG) in Accra, marking a significant milestone to enhance its operations and service delivery.

The new headquarters, dubbed “The Bank Square,” is a $250 million project .

It forms part of the Central Bank’s strategy to keep pace with advancements in financial management and governance.

President Akufo-Addo in his address lauded BoG for its vision in creating a facility to enhance its operations, describing the headquarters as a pivotal step in modernizing the nation’s financial infrastructure.

“This new headquarters will serve as the command centre for the Bank of Ghana’s operations. It is designed to foster innovation, collaboration, and excellence in the bank’s service to the nation,” he said.

The President also emphasized that the facility would enhance the bank’s ability to implement critical financial reforms, strengthen regulatory frameworks, and improve the investment climate for both local and international stakeholders.

“It is a testament to Ghana’s commitment to economic stability and our aspirations to position ourselves as a financial hub in the region,” he added.

The ceremony, brought together key government officials, Bank of Ghana executives, and prominent figures from Ghana’s financial sector.

Parents, wards storm GNAT Hall for self-placement [Photos]

Hundreds of anxious JHS graduates, accompanied by their parents, trooped to the National Resolution Centre on Thursday, seeking to address various challenges with their Senior High School (SHS) placement.

With the registration process underway in various schools and academic activities expected to officially begin on November 7, some people have yet to secure their spots.

Frustration was visibly evident on the faces of the parents and wards who were either trying to change schools, switch from day to boarding status, or resolve other issues.

The Ministry of Education announced the release of the 2024/25 placement results for SHS and Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) institutions on Tuesday, October 29.

The Ministry revealed that, out of the 563,339 results submitted by the West African Examinations Council (WAEC), 553,155 candidates qualified for placement.

Of these, 447,698 (representing 80.93%) were automatically placed in one of their selected schools.

An additional 104,918 eligible candidates were unable to be matched with any of their chosen schools and are advised to access the Self-Placement platform to select a school of their choice.

Sitting in Ghana’s Parliament on Tuesday, October 22 was marked by unprecedented drama and tension, as both National Democratic Congress (NDC) and New Patriotic Party (NPP) Members of Parliament occupied the majority side of the House.

The unusual seating arrangement comes on the heels of Speaker Alban Bagbin’s declaration of four vacant parliamentary seats on October 17, which has sparked intense debate over which party holds the majority.

In a surprise move, NPP MPs, led by Alexander Afenyo-Markin, staged a walkout, citing a desire to avoid confrontation and maintain peace.

The Effutu MP explained that, they were retreating to their offices to await directives from the Speaker on the way forward.

“We chose the path of peace rather than confronting our opponents to avoid chaos,” Afenyo-Markin stated, emphasizing Ghana’s reputation as a peaceful nation.

The NDC MPs, however, remained seated, occupying the majority side of the House.

A lone traffic light at the iconic Bukom Boxing Arena intersection has become a death trap for pedestrians and motorists.

The traffic light which is almost to the ground has deteriorated for months as rust has crept into its metal core, weakening it.

The bulbs of this traffic light are hanging on damaged poles.

Now, the falling traffic light has become a deadly snare, posing an imminent threat to motorists and pedestrians. Urgent attention is required to prevent catastrophe and restore safety.

It is just a tiny piece of metal, holding it in place and can fall off at any time, damaging vehicles or injuring passersby.

In an exclusive interview with Adomonline’s photojournalist, concerned citizens and motorists appealed to authorities to urgently repair the traffic light, citing the grave risk to lives on that route.

“This traffic light is a ticking time bomb,’ said a resident.

Another added, “We fear for our lives every time we pass through this intersection. We urge authorities to act swiftly to prevent a tragedy. Every day counts.”

They stated that, they await prompt action from the Ghana Highway Authority and Accra Metropolitan Assembly on the situation to avert any looming disaster.

Catholic Archdiocese of Accra’s prayer walk against galamsey [ Photos]

The Catholic Archdiocese of Accra, in partnership with the Conference of Major Superiors of Religious and Catholic Lay Faithful and Professionals, on Friday, October 10 embarked on an Environmental Prayer Protest Walk Against Galamsey.

This initiative was to raise awareness about the devastating impact of illegal mining, popularly known as galamsey, and call for urgent government action to address the issue.

They also advocated for a state of emergency concerning mining activities, particularly in areas surrounding water bodies and forest reserves.

The walk began at the Holy Spirit Cathedral in Adabraka, with participants marching through Ridge Roundabout, Ako Adjei Roundabout, the National Police Headquarters, and ended at Christ the King Parish.

Thousands of Ghanaians took to the streets on Tuesday October 8, 2024 to protest the delay in the approval of the anti-LGBTQ bill.

The demonstration was led by Member of Parliament for Ningo Prampram, Sam George who is also a co-sponsor of the bill known as the Sexual Rights and Family Values.

The march brought together activists, Minority MPs, Arise Ghana, religious and community leaders, and concerned citizens, all united in their call for swift legislative action.

This comes after the Supreme Court deferred its ruling on injunction applications filed by Dr. Amanda Odoi and Richard Sky, which sought to block the bill’s transmission.

The protesters in a petition to the Chief Justice, Gertrude Torkornoo demanded that the two cases should be scheduled for hearings within the next two weeks.

They also asked the Chief Justice to take steps to ensure that the rulings on these cases are readily available to feed into the completion of the national legislative processes before the year ends.

Additionally, they requested for a long-term solution that ensures timely and effective access to justice for all citizens, even during judicial breaks or vacations.

A petition to the Attorney General, Godfred Yeboah Dame also called for urgent steps to complete filing the documentation if any relating to the cases.

The protest started at Obra spot, through to Adabraka, and ended at the Supreme court of Ghana, at Accra.

On Friday, October 4, hundreds of Ghanaians returned for the protest demanding the immediate release of 53 Democracy Hub protesters who were arrested during an anti-galamsey demonstration the previous week.

The 3-day demonstration, running until October 5, aims to raise awareness about the environmental damage caused by illegal mining, known as galamsey.

Just like the first day, the protest started from Legon Okponglo and proceeded to the Black Star Square, following a route approved by the police, passing through Legon Stadium, Okponglo Traffic Light, Shiashie, Shangri-La, Airport Traffic Light, National Service Secretariat, Electoral Commission Office, Parliament, and ending at Independence Square.

On Monday, September 23, 2024, amidst escalating tensions, two additional protesters associated with the Democracy Hub were apprehended by the Police during the third day of the ongoing protests.

The demonstrators wielded placards with the fervent plea “Stop galamsey,” emphasizing their unwavering stance against illegal mining practices.

Following the arrest of over 42 demonstrators on Sunday, September 22, the streets leading to 37 Military Hospital and the El Wak Sports Stadium were left empty.

Protesters failed to attend the third and final day of their demonstration.

However, there was significant Police presence, poised to avert any potential escalation.

The Democracy Hub protest which have garnered significant attention due to their unyielding advocacy against illegal mining activities.

This resolute focus has led to heightened friction between the demonstrators and the police, as the protestors vehemently implore the government to take immediate measures to combat the environmental degradation wrought by illegal mining, commonly referred to as “galamsey.”

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) on Tuesday, September 17, 2024, embarked on a nationwide protest against the Electoral Commission (EC).

The demo was to impress upon the EC to allow for a forensic audit of the voter register ahead of the December elections after it alleged several anomalies, including illegal and mass transfer of votes.

This according to the NDC raises serious concerns about the credibility of the register, arguing that it could undermine the integrity of the election.

The Accra protest started at Obra spot, through to Adabraka, and ended at the EC Headquarters, at Ridge.

The protest, themed “Enough is Enough,” was led by the National Chairman, Johnson Asiedu Nketia with the NDC national executives, Members of Parliament, Civil Society Organisation (CSOs) and hundreds of Ghanaians in attendance.

The NDC officially submitted a petition to Parliament which was received by both the Majority Leader, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, and Minority Leader Cassiel Ato Forson.

Eight presidential aspirants on Monday September 9, 2024 filed their presidential nomination forms for the 2024 election.

They include flagbearers of the two dominant political parties; New Patriotic Party(NPP) and the National Democratic Congress(NDC); Dr Mahamudu Bawumia and John Dramani Mahama respectively.

Dr Bawumia filed the nomination himself in the company of his running mate, Dr Matthew Opoku-Prempeh, their wives as well as NPP bigwigs.

For Mr Mahama, the NDC National Chairman; Johnson Asiedu Nketia accompanied by the General Secretary; Fifi Kwetey, Director of IT and Elections, Dr Edward Omane Boamah among others filed it on his behalf.

The others were; Percival Kofi Akpaloo, leader and founder of the Liberal Party of Ghana (LPG), Nana Kwame Bediako; The New Force Movement, George Twum-Barima the Ghana Union Movement(GUM) leader, Christian Kwabena Andrews and Yellow Ghana’s Samuel Apea-Danquah.

The rest were: Hassan Ayariga of All People’s Congress (APC).

Mr Akpaloo, Mr Apea-Danquah and Nana Bediako popularly known as Cheddar filed their nominations at the Electoral Commission (EC) office on Monday.

They were received by the EC Chairperson, Jean Mensa and other members.

The General Secretary of GUM filed the nomination on behalf of Mr Andrews. With about 30 presidential aspirants seeking to contest the race, the EC will in the coming days receive more nominations, which will be subjected to scrutiny and vetting by a special committee.

The Deputy Director General of the National Sports Authority (NSA), Alhaji Abdul Majeed Bawa, has provided insight into the motivations behind the fan violence at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium on Thursday night.

Following the Black Stars’ surprising 1-0 loss to Angola in their 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers, enraged fans rushed onto the field, causing damage to the stadium’s panels and throwing objects.

In an interview on Asempa FM‘s Sports Nite, Alhaji Abdul Majeed Bawa attributed the destruction to young fans whose bets were ruined by the defeat.

“They destroyed, they threw missiles and all manner of things onto the pitch. That one too is it caused by NSA? They destroyed the pitch panels. And I believe these things are happening to the young guys who are addicted to betting. Honestly, that’s my feeling because if you see all those people who did that thing, they are all young guys.

“Throwing missiles because we lost. I believe they would not have done that if Ghana had won. After the tension subsided, you asked them and they were saying they disappointed them and they lost. Not that Ghana has lost oh but they lost a bet,” Alhaji Abdul Majeed Bawa shared.

Ghana’s loss to Angola has cast a shadow over their AFCON qualifying campaign. The Black Stars will need to regroup and prepare for their next match against Niger on Monday, September 9.

In response to the damage, the NSA has announced that the Baba Yara Stadium will be closed for one month for renovation work.

Black Stars head coach Otto Addo on Thursday 29th August 2024 announced a 23-man squad for the upcoming 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers against Angola and Niger.

Players are expected to report to camp by Monday, September 2, 2024, to begin preparations for the game on September 5 at the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi before traveling to play Niger at a neutral grounds in Berkane on September 10.

Coach Otto Addo’s selection includes the core of the squad, with no major surprises.

Key players such as Thomas Partey, Kudus Mohammed, Jordan Ayew, Lawrence Ati-Zigi, and Abdul Fatawu Issahaku have all been retained.

Inaki Williams and Majeed Ashimeru make their return to the squad after missing previous matches, while Frederick Asare of Asante Kotoko remains the only home-based player.

However, the team’s captain Andre Ayew again missed out on the call-up.

Deputy Ranking Member on Education for the Minority, Clement Abas Apaak, and Deputy Minister of Education, Rev. John Ntim Foudjour, highlighted their political parties achievements in the education sector and what to expect should they win the December elections.

Deputy Minister of Education, Rev. Ntim Fordjour emphasized that under the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government, a total of 3,001 vital projects have been successfully completed in the education sector since 2017.

“The next Mahama administration will cancel the licensure examination for Teacher Trainee graduates and post teachers immediately after completion without requiring national service. We will replace the licensure exams with a course that the teacher trainees will take in their final year and assessments going forward,” he said.
