Ekosiisen ‘Beginning The Year Right’ Conference highlights financial independence and purpose [Photos] https://www.adomonline.com/ekosiisen-beginning-the-year-right-conference-highlights-financial-independence-and-purpose-photos/ Sun, 18 Jan 2026 12:38:55 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2620608 The Ekosiisen Beginning The Year Right Conference was held on Saturday, January 17, at the Mövenpick Ambassador Hotel in Accra, urging Ghanaians to be intentional about financial independence and purposeful living.

The event featured Dr. Paul Mante, CEO of EDC Investment Ltd., and award-winning business leader and author, Richmond Kwame Frimpong, as keynote speakers.

Dr. Mante cautioned that earning a good salary does not necessarily guarantee financial security, challenging participants to ask themselves how long they could survive without a paycheck.

He noted that many workers would struggle to last three months without income, stressing the importance of understanding one’s net worth and the difference between assets and liabilities.

He identified financial education as key to achieving financial freedom and outlined seven principles for financial independence. These include planning one’s finances, building assets, eliminating liabilities, investing windfalls wisely, giving back to society, and enjoying a portion of one’s income.

Mr. Frimpong encouraged participants to discover their purpose, live intentionally, and practice discipline in both their personal and financial lives.

The conference provided attendees with practical tools to start the year with focus, clarity, and a well-defined path to success.

Joseph Odotei of Adom Online captured key moments from the conference.

Award-winning business leader and author, Richmond Kwame Frimpong, also challenged participants to be deliberate in the new year.

He made the remarks while addressing management and staff of the Multimedia Group during the company’s thanksgiving service to usher in the 2026 working year.

In a reflective address, Apostle General Ankrah described himself as a founding member of the Multimedia Group, recalling its humble beginnings when it operated a single FM station from a modest office.

“I am a founding member of this group. We used to have only one FM station and a small office. I remember coming there at dawn after sleepless nights to release the word of God,” he recounted.

He paid tribute to the Chief Executive Officer of the Multimedia Group, Mr Kwasi Twum, for believing in him when his ministry was largely unknown and providing him the opportunity to reach a national audience.

“Kwasi, thank you for giving me the opportunity so that my voice would be heard in this nation and beyond. Without you, nobody would have known Apostle General Sam Korankye Ankrah. I would have been hiding in my father’s village,” he said.

The renowned cleric explained that the exposure he received through Joy FM and later Joy TV (now JoyNews) transformed his life and ministry, elevating him from obscurity to a widely respected spiritual leader both in Ghana and internationally.

“But Joy FM and Joy TV gave me the exposure and the voice,” he emphasised. “Today, I am celebrated as a father.”

Apostle General Ankrah attributed both his success and the growth of the Multimedia Group to the grace of God, urging continued faithfulness and excellence.

“We give God the glory,” he said, drawing loud applause from the congregation.

The thanksgiving service brought together staff, management, and invited guests to reflect, pray, and give thanks for the Multimedia Group’s journey and impact as it begins the 2026 year.

Half of December shows were free – Ruddy Kwakye https://www.adomonline.com/half-of-december-shows-were-free-ruddy-kwakye/ Mon, 16 Jun 2025 10:04:25 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2544994 Ghanaian media executive and culture curator Ruddy Kwakye has said in a recent interview on Joy FM that many Ghanaian events don’t make gains because too many free tickets are given out.

Ruddy told Kwame Dadzie on Showbiz A-Z that several Ghanaian event organisers usually give out tickets for free just to fill up venues.

“You charge a 100,000 cedis to do a show in Ghana but the reality is you can’t sell 100,000 dollars’ worth of tickets. Half of your December shows by your favourite artistes were all free.
They just gave tickets to people to fill it up. It’s an ego trip. Because there is a system — if you market in a certain way, you would get your money back. But there is no shortcut around it, thinking we sold the tickets, therefore we should make profit,” he said.

He made this statement while discussing why many event organisers usually complain about making losses from their events after claiming they sold out their venues.

For playwright Latif Abubakar, making profit from events goes beyond just ticket sales. He said on the show that there are other avenues for raising funds to complement ticket income.

“I always say tickets are insignificant to the cost of a production. Because the amount of money we charge for ticketing is very small. You can’t depend on tickets to produce your events.
There are other elements of raising funds for production. We talk about sponsorships, partners, investors, and then you create other portfolios,” he said.

Latif noted that he creates a portfolio for exhibitions, where companies exhibit their wares and pay him.

For most event organisers, taxes imposed by the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) also put a lot of pressure on their operations.

I was hurt by Kwabena Kwabena’s 2024 Val’s concert date change – Akwaboah https://www.adomonline.com/i-was-hurt-by-kwabena-kwabenas-2024-vals-concert-date-change-akwaboah/ Thu, 30 Jan 2025 13:55:32 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2498929 Ghanaian singer and songwriter Akwaboah has responded to claims made by fellow musician Kwabena Kwabena regarding the origin of Valentine’s Day concerts in Ghana.

In an interview on Daybreak Hitz with DJ Slim, Akwaboah Jr. addressed Kwabena Kwabena’s assertion that he pioneered Valentine’s Day concerts in Ghana.

Kwabena Kwabena had stated in a recent interview that he was the first person to organise Valentine’s Day concerts in Ghana.

“On the 14th of February 2014, that was the first time I did a Valentine’s concert,” Kwabena said.

Akwaboah expressed surprise at Kwabena Kwabena’s claim, revealing that he had always performed at Kwabena Kwabena’s concert on February 12th, only to see Kwabena Kwabena announce a Valentine’s Day concert on February 14th in 2024.

“Yeah, I was kinda surprised though. I know his concert is always on the 12th of February, and so what we do is, on the 12th, I perform for him, and on the 14th, he comes to my show. And I think 4-5 days before, the team actually called me for a performance for him, and I was like, ‘Yeah, I’ll come,’ and all of a sudden, I see him post about the 14th,” he told DJ Slim.

When asked about the reason behind the cancellation of his 2024 Shades of Love concert, Akwaboah Jr. explained: “There were two reasons… one was gigs outside the country, and two, I was looking for a bigger venue, and I got the Grand Arena… that was where it was happening. So, from Kwabena’s own, I was looking for another big one (venue). And I felt like playing outside the country.”

Asked if he was hurt by what Kwabena Kwabena did, he responded in the affirmative.

“In as much as I was hurt, I didn’t have a problem with him because I am not the only one that can do a show on that day,” he said.

Talking about his current relationship with Kwabena Kwabena, Akwaboah stated, “It’s been cool. I mean, we met at Royal Senchi, we talked about it, I asked whether they’re doing it this year and he said yes, and I was like okay, cool.”

Meanwhile, Akwaboah’s Shades of Love Concert 2025 is set to happen at La Palm on February 14th, with regular tickets selling for 300 GHS, VIP for 500 GHS, and VVIP for 750 GHS. For reservations and more, call 0246466770.

Some royals and representatives of zongo communities who spoke to JoyNews, expressed their longstanding relations with the Asantehene as they commit to paying homage to the king.

Meanwhile, Chieftaincy Minister, Stephen Asamoah Boateng, spoke about the need to empower traditional leaders to drive development.

Ga Mashie celebrates Homowo [Photos] https://www.adomonline.com/ga-mashie-celebrates-homowo-photos/ Mon, 21 Aug 2023 09:46:06 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2285442 Over the weekend, the people of Ga Mashie took their turn in the Homowo festivities for this year.

The streets of Ga Mashie were filled with the beating of the Odadaoo drums by the Gbese Mantse, as the townsfolk and tourists alike trooped the principal streets with excitement.

The special traditional meal, ‘Kpokpoi’ and palm nut soup were cooked and sprinkled all across the municipality as custom demands.

Homowo is a festival celebrated by the Gas to recount the devastating famine faced by their ancestors and to commemorate the return of rain.

The word Homowo (Homo – hunger, wo – hoot) means “to hoot at hunger” in the Ga language. Homowo is one of the colourful festivals celebrated by the Ga traditional area.

The people of Nungua begin the celebration, followed by Lante Dzan We Clan, then Tema, Ga Mashie, La, Osu, Teshie, Kpone, Prampram and Ningo.

The festival begins with the planting of maize, which is used for the preparation of traditional food, “kpookoi” during the festival. It’s characterized by the sprinkling of “Kpokpoi” to the gods and ancestors for spiritual protection. A month before this celebration is done there is a ban on noise-making.

This year’s celebration had a sharp change due to the death of the Queen mother of the Ga State, Naa Dede Omaedru III. Usually, the chief and his kinsmen sprinkle kpookoi on the principal streets within Ga Mashie but this year it was done in houses.

The centuries-old Homowo festival has become a uniting force among the Ga people.

The Chinese company near Obuasi in the Adansi North District has lost all their belongings to the incident which happened on Thursday, 17th February.

The Human Resource Manager of Shengfa Company, Isaac K. Normanyo, told Adom News how he received the message and immediately called the Obuasi Fire Service.

According to him, the fire service directed him to inform the Fomena Fire Service due to their faulty fire tender.

However, when Formena Fire Service, the AGA, and Bekwai fire tenders arrived at the scene, all the belongings of the Chinese nationals were completely burnt into ashes.

Mum forced to lose weight after doctors warn she might not live to see daughter grow up https://www.adomonline.com/mum-forced-to-lose-weight-after-doctors-warn-she-might-not-live-to-see-daughter-grow-up/ Tue, 09 Nov 2021 07:02:24 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2040818 A new mum who peaked the scales at 21st lost seven stone after ditching her £800-a-month fast-food diet when doctors warned she might not live to see her daughter grow up.

Lillie Monro, 24, always struggled with her weight and would often have a takeaway burger for breakfast, as well as fast food for lunch and dinner.

Now, she’s swapped the burgers for salads, and as well as seeing her weight plummet, her finances also look healthier.

At her heaviest, her poor diet saw her reach 21st just before daughter Mila, two, was born, and a doctor warned the new mum she might not see her baby grow up.

Weighing 19st 1lb, and with her newborn baby in her arms, she pledged to change, and shrank 7st in a year, going from a size 22-24 to a 10-12.

She now weighs a healthy 12st.

The mum no longer spends £150-200 a week on fast food, meaning her food bills have halved, and she can climb the stairs without getting out of breath.

Lillie, an MOT, service and repairs adviser from Halstead, Essex said: “I literally lost a whole person worth of weight. My GP told me I wouldn’t see my daughter grow up so I knew I had to make rapid changes.

“I don’t think I’d have been able to do it if she hadn’t said that and I didn’t have Mila.

“I really enjoy just playing with her now: I wasn’t able to do that before.

“I didn’t do any exercise, just Slimming World. I actually really enjoyed it. I could still eat really big portions.

“I just changed the amounts of different foods so I was eating more of the right things and less of others, and cooked from scratch.

“At first I thought of it as a diet, but actually it’s a lifestyle change and that’s why it’s still working.”

As a 17st teen, Lillie said she didn’t like to go shopping with her friends, and first went to Slimming World aged 12 or 13.

She tried other diets too, but always found she put the weight back on afterwards, she said.

Lillie weighed 21st just before little Mila, now two, was born in February 2019, and 19st 1 shortly after.

The new mum was so uncomfortable about her weight she wouldn’t go out to the shops, or with her friends, and wouldn’t eat meals out, she said.

She went to her GP and was given medication for depression and anxiety, when Mila was three months old, in May 2019.

The female doctor told the mum her weight put her at risk of diabetes, heart failure, and other health risks, and she might not see her baby grow up, she said.

New-mum Lillie had feared losing little Mila when she was taken into neonatal intensive care with suspected sepsis just hours after being born, she said.

“You don’t expect your doctor to tell you you’re going to pop your clogs, but I’m so glad she did,” said Lillie.

“That was my wake-up call.https://get-latest.convrse.media/?

“When she said it, it reminded me of that fear of loss when Mila was in intensive care: it was so awful, really dreadful.

“I went home from the GP and cried my eyes out then decided to make changes.”
