The company urged that discussions surrounding Ghana’s revenue mobilisation be based on verified facts rather than speculation.

In a statement released on Friday, October 31, 2025, and issued by its Communications Department, SML expressed confidence in its operations, stating it remains “proud of the work done, the systems that guided it, and the measurable value delivered to Ghana.”

SML’s Lead Counsel emphasized that all relevant documents will be presented to the appropriate authorities, highlighting the importance of fairness, transparency, and evidence in shaping public discourse.

The company clarified that it is wholly Ghanaian-owned, denying claims of political ownership or control, and described as “inaccurate and misleading” any reports suggesting links to political figures.

Detailing its engagement with the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA), SML explained that its risk-and-reward service contracts were designed to enhance revenue mobilisation through measurable, data-driven outcomes. These services include transaction audits, petroleum measurement audits, and upcoming initiatives for upstream petroleum and solid minerals monitoring.

“All payments made to SML were tied to verified deliverables under continuous GRA supervision,” the statement said, noting that oversight mechanisms such as data validation and reconciliation were applied before any disbursement.

SML also challenged the OSP’s reported figure of GH¢125 million allegedly to be recovered by the state, asserting that, based on reconciled data and verified performance metrics, the government instead owes the company.

The statement highlighted that SML’s downstream petroleum audit system has generated an estimated GH¢20 billion in verified revenue for Ghana, contributing to a 92% increase in taxable volumes and a 33% rise in import clearance revenue.

SML emphasized that its work complements existing state systems rather than duplicating them, noting that the Ghana Standards Authority (GSA) has certified its petroleum monitoring technology as accurate and effective.

The company dismissed reports linking it to the defunct West Blue Consulting, clarifying that Ghana Link’s ICUMS platform replaced West Blue’s system, not SML’s.

SML also explained its name change from Strategic Mobilisation Enhancement Limited (SMEL) to Strategic Mobilisation Limited (SML) as a legitimate rebranding decision aimed at clarity and simplicity.

The company reaffirmed its dedication to supporting Ghana’s revenue mobilisation through technology, accountability, and professional excellence.

“SML represents a Ghanaian innovation success — a private enterprise that takes operational risks under a performance-based framework and receives payment only after verified results,” the statement concluded.

DVLA CEO appears before OSP over alleged GH¢4m bribe https://www.adomonline.com/dvla-ceo-appears-before-osp-over-alleged-gh%c2%a24m-bribe/ Fri, 31 Oct 2025 13:25:05 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2594751 The Chief Executive Officer of the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA), Julius Neequaye Kotey, has appeared before the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) over an alleged GH¢4 million bribe attempt.

Mr. Kotey recently revealed that he was offered the bribe by influential individuals seeking to halt the implementation of the new Digitalised Vehicle Registration Plate (DP) policy. The initiative is aimed at reducing vehicle-related fraud and enhancing road safety nationwide.

The OSP confirmed that the DVLA boss was invited to assist with investigations into the alleged offer, with the office seeking to verify the circumstances and identify those involved. Accra-based Citi News reports that the questioning is ongoing, with details yet to be released.

In a separate probe, the OSP has also launched an investigation into a sitting member of the Council of State over suspected corruption linked to gold trading. Sources say the investigation centers on allegations that the official may have exploited his position to influence the granting of a gold licence to a company in which he allegedly holds undisclosed interests.

Two arrested for murder and robbery at Aduman https://www.adomonline.com/two-arrested-for-murder-and-robbery-at-aduman/ Fri, 31 Oct 2025 13:10:49 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2594735 The Ashanti North Regional Police Command has arrested two individuals in connection with a violent robbery and murder that occurred at Aduman in the Kodie Municipality on October 19, 2025.

ASP Emmanuel Agbodzi, Acting Public Relations Officer for the Command, identified the suspects as 28-year-old Sani Abacha and 23-year-old Asante Eric. Both were apprehended through an intelligence-led operation.

Police investigations revealed that the victims, 18-year-old Kwabena Yankyira and 15-year-old Kwabena Boateng, were lured by Abacha under the pretext of helping transport firewood from his farm. Abacha attacked them with a cutlass, inflicting multiple wounds, and stole the complainant’s tricycle. He later collaborated with Eric to hide the vehicle at Aboabogya Cemetery before selling it to another suspect, Balawe, who remains at large.

Kwabena Yankyira was found unconscious by residents and rushed to St. Patrick’s Hospital at Maase-Offinso, where he is receiving treatment. Tragically, the younger victim, Kwabena Boateng, was found dead nearby.

Police recovered a cutlass believed to have been used in the attack, and both suspects have reportedly confessed.

The two appeared before the Kodie Magistrate Court on October 28, 2025, and were remanded into custody, scheduled to reappear on November 25. Authorities continue efforts to arrest the third suspect and recover the stolen tricycle.

OSP disagrees with portions of KPMG audit on SML-GRA contracts https://www.adomonline.com/osp-disagrees-with-portions-of-kpmg-audit-on-sml-gra-contracts/ Thu, 30 Oct 2025 16:34:48 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2594402 The Special Prosecutor, Kissi Agyebeng, has disclosed that the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) does not fully agree with certain conclusions in the KPMG audit report on the controversial revenue assurance contracts between the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) and Strategic Mobilisation Ghana Limited (SML).

Speaking at a press conference on Thursday, October 30, Mr. Agyebeng said while parts of KPMG’s report aligned with the OSP’s preliminary findings, the audit firm’s conclusions on accountability and value for money could not be accepted.

“The KPMG report confirmed that SML only partially delivered on its contractual obligations to the GRA. Major factual findings tallied with our preliminary investigations. However, the report raised more questions than answers and required further review,” the Special Prosecutor stated.

He emphasised that the OSP’s probe was launched to clarify unresolved issues highlighted by KPMG and to ensure that any assessment of the contracts’ legality and performance is thorough and independent.

“The OSP is unable to agree with some of KPMG’s conclusions regarding accountability and value for money,” Mr. Agyebeng added.

The SML-GRA contracts, which have faced public scrutiny over alleged irregularities and lack of value for money, remain under detailed investigation by the OSP.

OSP says SML lacked capacity, payments to company were misuse of public funds https://www.adomonline.com/osp-says-sml-lacked-capacity-payments-to-company-were-misuse-of-public-funds/ Thu, 30 Oct 2025 16:02:53 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2594386 The Special Prosecutor, Kissi Agyebeng, has revealed that Strategic Mobilisation Ghana Limited (SML) lacked the tools and technical expertise to deliver the audit and revenue assurance services it was contracted to provide for the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA).

Addressing a press conference on Thursday, October 30, Mr. Agyebeng said investigations by the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) uncovered serious statutory breaches, conflicts of interest, and unjustified payments linked to the SML contracts.

“There was no genuine need for contracting SML for the work it purported to perform,” he stated, describing the agreements as “blighted by statutory breaches.” He added that the company lacked both the infrastructure and professional capacity to execute the assigned tasks.

The Special Prosecutor also noted that the GRA failed to submit full agreements between SML and its third-party collaborators, undermining transparency and accountability in the procurement process.

Mr. Agyebeng alleged that the entire arrangement was driven by “self-serving official patronage, sponsorship, and promotions based on false and unverified claims.” He named former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta as “the chief patron, supporter, and promoter” of the SML deal, asserting that both Ofori-Atta and the company’s management “were criminally minded in their operations.”

The probe concluded that payments made to SML were unjustified and represented a misuse of public funds, as the contract was not based on any genuine operational need.

These revelations mark a major development in the ongoing investigation into the SML–GRA contract, which has drawn widespread scrutiny over alleged procurement irregularities, conflicts of interest, and lack of value for money.

OSP: SML contract unnecessary, unlawfully approved, and costly to the state https://www.adomonline.com/osp-sml-contract-unnecessary-unlawfully-approved-and-costly-to-the-state/ Thu, 30 Oct 2025 15:51:37 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2594379 The Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) has concluded that the contract awarded to Strategic Mobilisation Ghana Limited (SML) was unnecessary, unlawfully approved, and resulted in significant financial losses to the state.

Speaking at a press briefing in Accra on Thursday, October 30, Special Prosecutor Kissi Agyebeng said investigations showed there was no genuine need for SML’s services.

He described the contracts as arising from “self-serving official patronage, sponsorship, and promotion based on false and unverified claims.”

Mr. Agyebeng revealed that key officials bypassed mandatory approval processes, carrying out actions with “increased impunity.”

The probe also uncovered a lack of proper financial oversight, with payment systems operating on “automatic mode,” leading to disbursements detached from actual work performed — a situation that caused substantial loss to the Republic.

“The manner in which these contracts were initiated and executed undermined due process and accountability in public procurement,” he said.

The findings form part of a broader OSP investigation into revenue assurance and monitoring contracts awarded to SML by the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) and the Ministry of Finance.

SCHOLSEC, NIB arrest suspected fraudster behind fake scholarship scheme https://www.adomonline.com/scholsec-nib-arrest-suspected-fraudster-behind-fake-scholarship-scheme/ Thu, 30 Oct 2025 14:39:55 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2594326 The Scholarship Secretariat (SCHOLSEC), in collaboration with the National Investigations Bureau (NIB), has arrested a man, Emmanuel Ofori, for allegedly defrauding Ghanaians through a fake government scholarship scheme.

Reports indicate that Ofori created multiple social media accounts on Facebook, LinkedIn, and Instagram, impersonating the official Scholarship Secretariat. Using these accounts, he reportedly promised victims government-sponsored scholarships in exchange for money and even issued counterfeit certificates bearing forged signatures of the Secretariat’s Registrar.

Ofori was apprehended in Tema following an intelligence-led operation after the Registrar, Alex Kwaku Asafo-Agyei, lodged a formal complaint with the NIB. The suspect is expected to appear in court on Monday to face charges of fraud and impersonation.

Speaking to journalists, Mr. Asafo-Agyei praised the NIB for its swift action and called on potential victims to assist with the investigation.

“We encourage anyone who may have fallen victim to this fraudulent scheme to contact the Secretariat on 0302907058 or 0302907051 and provide any evidence to support the prosecution,” he said.

He emphasised that the Secretariat does not charge fees for scholarships, and all awards are based on transparent and verifiable processes.

“I urge the public to remain vigilant and rely only on the Secretariat’s official communication channels. Be wary of individuals or online platforms promising scholarships for money,” he cautioned.

The Ghana Scholarship Secretariat, established to support brilliant but financially constrained students, continues to warn against fraudulent intermediaries and fake accounts. This arrest is part of a broader crackdown on online scams targeting scholarship applicants.

According to a statement issued by ASP Beatrice Turkson on Thursday, October 30, the incident began after officers detained 25-year-old Sulley Moses.

During the confrontation, three police officers and four civilians sustained injuries and received treatment at Nsuaem Government Hospital, with one civilian referred to Effia Nkwanta Regional Hospital for further care.

Preliminary investigations indicate that Moses was arrested after residents accused him of attempting to lure two children, aged seven and five, to an unknown location.

“On Wednesday, October 29, a group of about 15 men, accompanied by two children, brought suspect Sulley Moses to the station, reporting that they had spotted him near Nivo Filling Station talking to the children,” the statement said.

“They suspected he intended to lure the children to an unknown destination and demanded police action.”

Following the children’s confirmation that Moses had forcibly held them, tensions escalated as news of his arrest spread. A mob of about 500 people, reportedly armed with stones and other weapons, stormed the station, demanding his release.

The crowd blocked the Takoradi–Tarkwa highway, set tyres ablaze, and hurled stones at police, causing damage to two vehicles, parts of the station building, and several impounded motorbikes.

Reinforcement teams, supported by military personnel, were deployed to disperse the crowd and restore order. Sulley Moses has since been transferred to the Tarkwa Regional Police Headquarters for further investigation.

All personnel at Nsuaem Police Station have been relocated for safety, and the station has been temporarily closed.

The Western Central Regional Police Command strongly condemned the attack, assuring the public that all perpetrators will be identified, arrested, and brought to justice.

“The Command assures the public that all perpetrators will be identified, arrested, and brought to justice,” the statement concluded.

Former Deputy NSA boss was simultaneously enrolled as National Service personnel https://www.adomonline.com/former-deputy-nsa-boss-was-simultaneously-enrolled-as-national-service-personnel/ Wed, 29 Oct 2025 16:15:06 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2593852 Auditor-General’s Forensic Audit Finds Deputy NSA Boss, Gifty Oware-Mensah, Improperly Enrolled as National Service Personnel

A technical and forensic audit by the Auditor-General has revealed that Gifty Oware-Mensah, Deputy Executive Director of the National Service Authority (NSA), was improperly enrolled as a national service personnel while already serving as a full-time, salaried public officer.

The audit report indicates that Mrs. Oware-Mensah was manually uploaded into the National Service Scheme system on March 16, 2021, based on her Master of Public Administration degree from KNUST, despite being ineligible under statutory rules.

Her full allowance of GH¢6,708.48 (GH¢559.04 per month for 12 months) was deducted and paid to a vendor through the NSA’s “MarketPlace” platform for a purported credit facility. The enrolment was approved on April 22, 2021, by then-Minister for Youth and Sports, Mustapha Ussif, who the audit notes lacked the authority to approve such a PIN assignment.

Mrs. Oware-Mensah was posted to Koblimahagu Sobriya Primary School in Tamale but did not report for duty or undergo any biometric validation, yet her name remained on the payroll.

The forensic audit further revealed that she was among 4,556 individuals improperly enrolled as service personnel, resulting in irregular expenditures totaling GH¢899,349.67. Only 19 of those enrolled met the basic criteria for validation and approval.

Investigators attributed the anomaly to manual overrides, weak system controls, and the absence of automated checks to prevent salaried public officers from being enrolled as national service personnel. The report also highlighted misuse of the NSA’s “MarketPlace” platform, which facilitated deductions and fund diversion without proof of goods or services delivered.

The Auditor-General warned that such actions breached public trust, compromised the integrity of the National Service Scheme, and created avenues for fraud. Recommendations included recovering the funds involved and surcharging Ms. Oware-Mensah and other responsible officials, including Osei Assibey Antwi and Eric Nyarko, with the full amount plus interest at the prevailing Bank of Ghana rate.

The report also advised that disciplinary action be taken against officers who bypassed standard protocols and that automated checks be implemented to prevent future instances of dual enrolment of public officers.

Supreme Court throws out Adu-Boahene’s motion to remove judge from $7 million cyber-defence software case https://www.adomonline.com/supreme-court-throws-out-adu-boahenes-motion-to-remove-judge-from-7-million-cyber-defence-software-case/ Wed, 29 Oct 2025 15:50:45 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2593826 The Supreme Court has dismissed a motion seeking to bar Justice John Eugene Nyante Nyadu from presiding over the trial of former Director-General of the National Signals Bureau (NSB), Kwabena Adu-Boahene, who is facing allegations of causing a financial loss of GH₵49 million to the state.

In a unanimous ruling on Tuesday, October 29, the five-member panel, led by Justice Avril Lovelace Johnson, dismissed the application, stating it lacked merit and did not meet the threshold required to prohibit a trial judge.

Charges

Kwabena Adu-Boahene and his wife, Adjei-Boateng, have been accused of diverting GH₵49 million, intended for the purchase of software for the state, into their private company through a network of companies ultimately owned by ASL.

Adu-Boahene has pleaded not guilty to charges including defrauding by false pretences, wilfully causing financial loss to the state, using public office for personal gain, and obtaining public property by false pretences. His wife faces charges of collaboration to use public office for personal gain, conspiracy to launder money, and money laundering. Both have been granted bail by the trial court.

Motion

On October 22, 2025, Adu-Boahene, through his lawyer Samuel Atta Akyea, filed a motion invoking the supervisory jurisdiction of the Supreme Court to prevent Justice Nyadu from hearing the case.

He claimed that the trial judge had displayed bias, alleging that Justice Nyadu had already made decisions regarding the relevance of evidence that could support his defence, undermining his constitutional right to a fair trial.

Adu-Boahene further argued that the judge’s ruling that certain evidence requested from the Attorney-General was irrelevant suggested a predisposition against him and the co-defendants.

He also cited the court’s decision to schedule proceedings from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. as evidence of an unusual interest in the case, which he argued could compromise the judge’s impartiality.

The operations form part of ongoing investigations into alleged corruption linked to the Minerals Income Investment Fund (MIIF) gold trade programme.

According to a statement on the OSP’s official social media pages, the searches were conducted under warrants issued by the High Court in Accra.

Nana Yaw Duodu is being investigated for suspected corruption and corruption-related offences connected to the MIIF gold trade, which is alleged to have caused a financial loss of about US$94 million to the state.

During the operation, the OSP’s Asset Recovery and Management Team reportedly seized several luxury vehicles, jewellery, firearms, and documents linked to landed properties believed to be connected to the investigation.

The OSP stressed that the searches are part of its broader mandate to recover state assets and prosecute individuals involved in corruption or misuse of public funds.

In September, Dr. Sledge was detained by the OSP after failing to meet bail conditions. It is alleged that over US$94 million was lost to the state due to Goldridge Refinery’s failure to honour trade settlements under the Gold for Forex and Gold for Oil initiatives.

According to the Secretariat, the arrests took place a few weeks ago. The individuals were later granted bail but remain subjects of investigation as the audit continues.

Although details of the alleged offences and audit findings have not yet been made public, the arrests have drawn significant attention to the Secretariat’s internal management practices.

This development follows recent concerns about irregularities allegedly committed under the previous leadership of the institution.

The current Registrar, Alexander Asafo-Agyei, raised these concerns shortly after assuming office in February 2025.

In an interview on Adom TV on June 10, 2025, Mr. Asafo-Agyei criticised what he described as a lack of transparency and accountability in the Secretariat’s past operations.

He reaffirmed his commitment to restoring integrity and ensuring proper oversight within the institution.

The convicts, Abdul Ganiyu, a 28-year-old mason, and Godwin Akpa, a 31-year-old carpenter, were charged with stealing.

They were found guilty after a trial presided over by Angela Attachie, which concluded on October 10, 2025. The two had initially pleaded not guilty when the case was first brought before the court.

Brief facts

The prosecutor, Chief Inspector Maxwell Lanyo, told the court that the complainant, Frank Hadzi, is a foreman at Enok Holdings Limited and lives at Nanakrom, Accra, while the accused persons live at Adenta Aviation in Accra.

He said the two convicts worked as labourers at the same company and that on March 12, 2025, at about 3 p.m., the accused persons hired a Hyundai Getz taxi with registration number GW-6880-22 to the company’s warehouse at Adenta Aviation.

There, they loaded 15 boxes of floor tiles into the car.

One of the workers at the site spotted them and raised an alarm. When questioned, the two admitted that they were taking the tiles to Abossey Okai, a community in Accra, to sell.

The prosecutor added that they were arrested and taken to the police station, where they again confessed to the crime in their caution statements. After investigations, they were charged and brought before the court.

NAIMOS arrests 10 armed Chinese illegal miners at Abusa [Photos] https://www.adomonline.com/naimos-arrests-10-armed-chinese-illegal-miners-at-abusa-photos/ Sat, 25 Oct 2025 06:41:01 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2592283 The National Anti-Illegal Mining Operations Secretariat (NAIMOS) has arrested ten heavily armed Chinese nationals suspected of engaging in illegal mining, locally known as galamsey, at Abusa in the Ashanti Region.

The arrests were made during a joint intelligence-led operation conducted by NAIMOS and the Ashanti Regional Security Council (REGSEC) on October 23, 2025.

The operation forms part of ongoing efforts to dismantle illegal mining networks operating within the Oda River Forest Reserve.

According to a statement from NAIMOS, the team also apprehended nine armed individuals posing as National Security operatives.

The impostors, dressed in khaki uniforms, claimed to be working under the instructions of a man identified as “Major Jabari.”

A search on the suspects led to the discovery of a pistol with three rounds of ammunition, a toy pistol, a pump-action shotgun, several cartridges, and handcuffs, all of which were seized as evidence.

During the same exercise, NAIMOS officers intercepted a group that allegedly attempted to bribe them with GH₵120,000 to secure the release of the arrested illegal miners.

The suspects involved in the bribery attempt were immediately detained.

The operation further uncovered a hidden settlement deep within the forest, where the illegal miners had built makeshift wooden structures and tents to support their mining activities. NAIMOS said the site was dismantled, and the equipment destroyed to prevent reoccupation.

Other seized items included vehicles, refrigerators, and rounds of ammunition.

Authorities say the arrested individuals are in custody as investigations continue to determine the full extent of their operations and possible collaborators.

East Legon nannies in court over sleep-inducing drugs given to toddlers https://www.adomonline.com/east-legon-nannies-in-court-over-sleep-inducing-drugs-given-to-toddlers/ Fri, 24 Oct 2025 09:54:51 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2592007 Two nannies accused of administering sleep-inducing drugs to their employer’s twin toddlers have appeared before the District Court in Accra.

Francisca Boakye, 30, unemployed, and Harriet Ansah, 31, a nanny, have been charged with two counts of conspiracy to commit a crime and four counts of causing harm.

Both pleaded not guilty.

The court granted each of them bail in the sum of GH¢100,000, with two sureties to be justified with landed property.

They are scheduled to reappear on November 27, 2025.

Prosecutors told the court that the complainant, a businesswoman residing at East Legon, had employed the accused persons as live-in nannies.

On September 20, 2025, Harriet allegedly sent Emmanuel Koranteng, a non-residential driver and witness in the case, to purchase half a crate of eggs and GH¢5 worth of Dynewell tablets (4mg) from a nearby pharmacy.

Koranteng, familiar with the drug and its side effects, questioned Harriet about its intended use, but she declined to respond, raising his suspicion.

According to the prosecution, Harriet later confided in Koranteng that the complainant’s children were difficult to manage and did not sleep well. She allegedly admitted to mixing the drugs into their food daily to improve their eating and sleeping habits, without the complainant’s knowledge or consent.

Harriet reportedly told Koranteng that she had inherited the practice from Francisca, who had previously worked for the complainant.

Koranteng subsequently informed the complainant, who reported the matter to the Police.

A medical report form was issued for the children to receive treatment at the Police Hospital or any government facility.

The prosecution said Closed-Circuit Television (CCTV) footage from the complainant’s residence showed Harriet subjecting the children to various forms of inhuman treatment.

Harriet was arrested and, in her caution statement, admitted the offence and implicated Francisca as her accomplice.

A search of Harriet’s room revealed two used and four unused trays of Dynewell tablets (4mg), which were retained as evidence and forwarded to the Food and Drugs Authority. The report is pending.

Francisca was also arrested and, in her caution statement, admitted to the offence.

Both accused persons have since been arraigned before a Circuit Court at the Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU) Headquarters in Accra.

The case was adjourned to November 27, 2025, for further proceedings.

J.A. Plant Pool was overpaid $2m for DRIP contract – Attorney-General https://www.adomonline.com/j-a-plant-pool-was-overpaid-2m-for-drip-contract-attorney-general/ Wed, 22 Oct 2025 17:21:34 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2591375 Attorney General and Minister for Justice, Dominic Ayine, has disclosed that the previous New Patriotic Party (NPP) administration overpaid J.A. Plant Pool, the firm contracted under the District Roads Improvement Programme (DRIP).

This, he said, was by an amount of $2 million, despite the total cost of the procured machines being just over $1 million.

“In the case of DRIP, they were overpaid; that is J. A Plant Pool was overpaid $2 million; the contract sum was $176 million. When we examined the invoices of payment, it was $178 million that was paid, so right away, there was a difference of $2 million,” he disclosed at the Government’s Accountability Series on Wednesday.

“We noticed that the DRIP equipment was overinvoiced by between 100 to 300 per cent,” he added.

Dr Ayine further revealed that during the importation process, 190 additional pieces of equipment were shipped alongside the DRIP machinery and cleared at the port under the false claim that they formed part of the project.

“We also realised that, 190 pieces of equipment were added and cleared without payment of tax, in other words, they were added to the list as if they were tax exempt,” he said.

He said the act resulted in tax evasion amounting to over GH₵38 million. “When they did the analysis, it came out that GH₵38.7 million of taxes were evaded.”

The Attorney General stated that his office has directed J.A. Plant Pool to refund the excess payment to the state and has tasked the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) to recover the outstanding tax obligations.

The DRIP was an initiative of the erstwhile Akufo-Addo government aimed at facilitating rapid infrastructure development across the nation at the district level.

Each Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs) received more than one machine, ranging from excavators and trucks to tipper trucks and other heavy road construction equipment.

A-G freezes assets of former Buffer Stock CEO and wife https://www.adomonline.com/a-g-freezes-assets-of-former-buffer-stock-ceo-and-wife/ Wed, 22 Oct 2025 15:47:35 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2591367 The Attorney General and Minister for Justice, Dr. Dominic Ayine, has revealed that the assets of the former Chief Executive Officer of the National Food and Buffer Stock Company (NAFCO), Abdul-Wahab Hanan, and his wife, Faiza Seidu Wuni, have been frozen, with processes underway to have them confiscated.

Addressing journalists at the Government Accountability Series on Wednesday, Dr. Ayine disclosed that investigators had frozen a fixed deposit account belonging to Mr. Hanan at Republic Bank’s Labone Branch in Accra, containing GHS10 million.

He further indicated that several vehicles and more than 61 luxury handbags linked to the couple had also been seized as part of ongoing investigations.

Dr. Ayine explained that the action forms part of efforts to recover state funds allegedly diverted during Mr. Hanan’s tenure at NAFCO and to prevent the dissipation of suspected proceeds of crime.

“We have frozen all these assets and will be taking steps to have them confiscated by the state in the course of the criminal proceedings.

“Also, in terms of liquid assets, we have frozen a fixed deposit account belonging to Mr. Hannan containing Ghs 10,000,000.00 with Republic Bank, Labone Branch, Accra. Additionally, we have also frozen several vehicles and over 61 luxury handbags,” he revealed.

According to the Attorney General, the frozen assets include both movable and immovable properties allegedly acquired through illicit means.

EOCO places GH¢100,000 bounty on ex-Bank Manager over GH¢30m theft https://www.adomonline.com/eoco-places-gh%c2%a2100000-bounty-on-ex-bank-manager-over-gh%c2%a230m-theft/ Wed, 22 Oct 2025 14:26:07 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2591055 A manhunt is underway for a former bank manager, with authorities offering a GH¢100,000 cash reward for information leading to his arrest over the alleged theft of more than GH¢30 million.

The Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) has named Akwasi Agyemang-Abebrese, a former Customer Service Manager at the bank (name withheld) in Kumasi, as the prime suspect in a complex fraud case. He is wanted for the alleged offences of “Stealing and Money Laundering.”

According to internal bank documents, an audit uncovered that “a total of GH¢33,384,494.00 was stolen by Akwasi Agyemang-Abebrese.”

The scheme, which ran from November 2023 to February 2025, involved siphoning funds from the bank’s internal accounts and a KNUST Postgraduate Student Hostel account.

The bank’s petition to EOCO detailed that Agyemang-Abebrese “debited both internal accounts and Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) accounts” before channeling the money into his personal bank account. A total of GH¢4.85 million was allegedly taken directly from the student hostel’s funds.

The bank’s investigation revealed a web of complicity, identifying several other staff members as “inputters,” who are said to have processed 61 transactions totaling GH¢29.7 million. However, the bank stated that “all the transactions were authorised by Akwasi Agyemang-Abebrese.”

The suspect’s disappearance was first noted in a letter dated March 7, 2025, which stated that after being asked to provide source documents for suspicious transfers, “Akwasi, in the bid of searching for the source documents, left the branch without the knowledge of the branch manager or any staff.”

The bank reported that “all efforts to reach him have proven futile, as his phone is switched off.”

In a public notice, EOCO has announced the “GH¢100,000 Cash Reward” for information on Agyemang-Abebrese’s whereabouts.

The public is urged to contact the EOCO Head Office on Barnes Road in Accra, any regional office, the nearest police station, or call 0256957742 or 0579709066.

A-G affirms collaboration with OSP on corruption probes https://www.adomonline.com/a-g-affirms-collaboration-with-osp-on-corruption-probes/ Wed, 22 Oct 2025 14:20:59 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2591305 The Attorney‑General, Dominic Ayine has affirmed that his office is actively collaborating with the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) on key corruption investigations, countering earlier reports suggesting a breakdown in relations.

Addressing a press conference, the Attorney-General acknowledged that the pace of cooperation has not been as swift as desired.

But insisted that collaboration is ongoing and expressed optimism that the tempo would soon quicken.

“Yes, we are collaborating. Maybe the pace of collaboration is not something that I am happy about, and I don’t think that Ghanaians are also happy about the pace at which we are collaborating. But yes, the office of the special prosecutor and my office are collaborating,” he explained on Wednesday, October 22.

This statement follows remarks earlier in the week from Sammy Darko, Director of Strategy, Research and Communication at the OSP, who, in an interview with JoyNews, dismissed claims of any institutional rift.

Mr Darko stressed that there is “no bad blood” between the two bodies and attributed any delays to issues of timing and procedural readiness rather than conflict.

While acknowledging that stakeholders expect faster results, the Attorney-General reiterated that building robust, legally sound cases requires time and coordination across agencies.

I’m not under pressure to cut deals in corruption cases – Attorney-General https://www.adomonline.com/im-not-under-pressure-to-cut-deals-in-corruption-cases-attorney-general/ Wed, 22 Oct 2025 14:18:22 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2591291 The Attorney-General and Minister for Justice, Dr. Dominic Ayine, has clarified that he is under no pressure to enter into plea deals in connection with ongoing corruption investigations involving former appointees of the erstwhile Akufo-Addo administration.

Speaking at the Government Accountability Series on Wednesday, Dr. Ayine revealed that several plea bargain offers had been made by some accused persons, including the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Bernard Antwi-Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi.

Dr. Ayine emphasised that his office has not been influenced by any external authority or political figure in the discharge of his duties.

“I’m under no pressure from any quarters to cut deals,” Dr. Ayine stated. “Mr. President, who is my boss, has not put any pressure on me. He gives me his blessings when I brief him. The Chief of Staff has not put pressure on me to cut deals with anybody.”

He confirmed that offers had been made in the Wontumi case but stressed that the judicial process must be allowed to run its full course.

“Offers have been made, but I have turned all of them down. I have told everybody, please go to court. In the Wontumi case, offers were made to us for a plea bargain, but I said no—I’m filing charges. If you want to announce your intention for a plea deal, do it before the judge. That is now my strategy,” he explained.

Dr. Ayine also dismissed reports suggesting he was negotiating plea deals with NPP officials, describing such claims as politically motivated.

“The NPP took advantage and said I was cutting deals. No deals have been cut and no deal will be cut,” he maintained.

Chairman Wontumi, who is the first accused in a case involving Akonta Mining Company Limited, is facing multiple charges, including facilitating unlicensed mining operations and assigning mineral rights without ministerial approval.

He has, however, pleaded not guilty to all charges.

NSA ghost names scandal balloons to GH¢2.2bn https://www.adomonline.com/nsa-ghost-names-scandal-balloons-to-gh%c2%a22-2bn/ Wed, 22 Oct 2025 14:06:40 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2591304 The Attorney-General and Minister for Justice, Dr Dominic Ayine, has disclosed that a forensic audit conducted by the Auditor-General has uncovered a staggering GH¢2.2 billion loss to the state through the National Service Authority (NSA) ghost names scandal, far higher than the initial estimate of GH¢548 million.

Speaking on Wednesday, October 22, at the Government Accountability Series, Dr Ayine revealed that the updated figure followed a comprehensive forensic examination of payroll records and disbursements within the scheme.

“The Auditor-General’s forensic audit has now established that the actual amount involved in the ghost names scandal at the National Service Secretariat is GH¢2.2 billion not the GH¢548 million that was previously reported,” Dr Ayine stated.

The National Service Authority, which deploys thousands of graduates each year to serve in various public and private organisations, has come under repeated scrutiny for weak oversight and persistent allegations of financial impropriety.

Dr Ayine emphasised that the inflated wage bill was largely due to the inclusion of non-existent service personnel, so-called “ghost names” who had been fraudulently inserted into the system, allowing payments to be siphoned off illegally.

He assured the public that the Ministry of Justice would work closely with law enforcement agencies and the Auditor-General’s office to ensure that those found culpable are prosecuted and that the state recovers as much of the stolen funds as possible.

Former Buffer Stock CEO implicated in major corruption scandal – Attorney General https://www.adomonline.com/former-buffer-stock-ceo-implicated-in-major-corruption-scandal-attorney-general/ Wed, 22 Oct 2025 13:55:19 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2591277 The Attorney General and Minister for Justice, Dr. Dominic Ayine, has revealed that the former Chief Executive Officer of the National Food and Buffer Stock Company (NAFCO), Hanan Abdul-Wahab, is at the centre of a major corruption scandal involving the alleged acquisition of high-value properties using proceeds of crime.

Addressing journalists on Wednesday as part of the Government Accountability Series, Dr. Ayine outlined a list of luxury assets reportedly acquired by the former CEO with misappropriated public funds during his tenure.

According to the Attorney General, investigators from the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) have traced several properties and financial transactions linked to Abdul-Wahab, which they believe were funded through illicit means.

They include a five-bedroom house at Chain Homes, valued at $1.625 million, a three-bedroom house at Cantonments, purchased for $600,000, multiple plots of land at Airport Development Area, worth $750,000, a 17-bedroom boutique hotel in Gumani, Tamale, acquired for $250,000, a four-bedroom bungalow at Dworwulu, Accra, valued at over GH¢4.14 million and a 0.32-acre parcel of government land, purchased for GH¢307,200.

The case, according to Dr. Ayine, is part of a broader government effort to recover stolen public funds and dismantle entrenched corruption networks within state institutions.

He assured that government remains committed to accountability and transparency, stressing that “all assets found to have been acquired with stolen funds will be confiscated in accordance with the law.”

Mr. Abdul-Wahab was arrested in June 2025 and detained by EOCO for two weeks before being granted bail in the sum of GH¢60 million with two sureties.

He was picked up together with his wife over allegations of large-scale financial misconduct during his time in office, but the latter was released earlier on a GH¢30 million bail.

Speaking on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem, the DCE confirmed that he has visited some of the injured victims, all males aged between 20 and 35 from different communities in the Garu District.

“Some sustained injuries to the neck, hand, and stomach, but thankfully, they are all responding to treatment,” he said.

Mr. Abaare explained that joint military and police teams have been conducting night patrols to maintain order and prevent further attacks.

“The situation is under control, and I will be meeting with the military commander this morning for further engagement,” he added.

The DCE revealed that he personally joined the team that conveyed the remains of the four deceased to their families, including the headteacher from Bawku, a National Health Insurance Authority staff from Tempane, and two other victims from Garu.

“The eldest of the victims was about 70 years old, and the youngest was in his 20s,” he noted.

While assuring residents of improved security, Mr. Abagre cautioned them to remain alert, as the attackers often operate through “hit-and-run” tactics.

“As far as security patrols are ongoing, we can say it’s safe. But residents must stay vigilant and report any suspicious persons or activities to the authorities immediately,” he advised.

Kumaca seized control from the very first round and never loosened their grip, finishing the contest on a commanding 59 points, powered by a perfect 10/10 in the Problem of the Day, a round that ultimately sealed their supremacy.

Their dominance left St. Louis SHS chasing shadows despite a late push that saw them end on 42 points, while Bunkpurugu SHTS could only manage 17 points after struggling to keep up as intensity built in the auditorium.

The win sends Kumaca to the next stage of the competition in a statement of intent, one that hints they are not just back to participate but back to finish what they started.

Police investigate ‘unnatural’ death of Senegalese goalkeeper in Kumasi https://www.adomonline.com/police-investigate-unnatural-death-of-senegalese-goalkeeper-in-kumasi/ Mon, 20 Oct 2025 16:15:20 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2590414 Police in the Ashanti region are investigating circumstances leading to the death of a 20-year-old Senegalese national in Kumasi.

The remains of Cheith Toure, a young goalkeeper in his home country, was deposited at the Ebenezer mortuary in Tafo-Kumasi by an individual identified as Issah who claimed to be the brother of the deceased.

However, further investigations at the Manhyia Government Hospital established that on 16th October, 2025, Issah had brought the deceased to the hospital in a critical condition, with several abdominal injuries.

He had alleged that the victim had been involved in an accident, but the hospital records showed that Cheith was brought in dead.

The Police, in a statement, described his death as ‘unnatural’.

The Ministry of African Integration and Foreign Affairs in Senegal suspects that Cheith has fallen prey to a ‘network of scams and extortion of funds after its Embassy in Accra earlier confirmed the discovery of his body.

It’s unclear the circumstances leading to the demise of the young football talent.

Representatives from the Embassy are in Kumasi collaborating with local authorities on administrative and judicial procedures to find the killers of the footballer.

The police have assured frantic efforts to thoroughly investigate the death and bring clarity to events surrounding the unfortunate death.

Meanwhile, processes are underway to coordinate with Cheith’s family to facilitate the repatriation of his remains once all necessary authorization is secured.

Self-styled prophetess jailed 5 years for stealing   https://www.adomonline.com/self-styled-prophetess-jailed-5-years-for-stealing/ Mon, 20 Oct 2025 15:53:47 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2590401 A 45-year-old self-styled prophetess has been sentenced to five years in prison by the Asante Akropong Circuit Court in the Atwima Nwabiagya North District for stealing personal belongings and cash valued at GH¢ 27,270 at Asante Abuakwa.

Ama Salifu, who is also a trader, pleaded guilty to the charge of stealing and was convicted on her own plea by the court, presided over by Mrs. Gloria Mensah Bonsu.

Police Chief Inspector Evans Ayimbisa, presenting the facts of the case to the court, described the convict as a confident trickster.

He said that on April 17 this year, the convict met one Josephina Owusuaa, the first complainant, on her way to a laundry at the Abuakwa SDA junction.

The convict stopped her and introduced herself as a prophetess with a message from God for her.

She then instructed the complainant to leave her bag, which contained GH¢1,200 in cash and an iPhone XR valued at GH¢3,000, with a trader at the junction and go to a certain woman at the Abuakwa Shell filling station for a spiritual message.

The prosecution said the complainant complied but could not find the said woman. When she returned, both the convict and her bag were gone.

She went to the trader for her bag but was informed that the convict had posed as her mother and collected it. The case was subsequently reported to the Abuakwa Police.

According to the prosecution, in early August 2025, the convict again introduced herself as a prophetess to a 16-year-old girl at the Abuakwa market, telling her that her mother, Priscilla Owusu Achiaa, the second complainant, was under a serious spiritual attack and needed deliverance.

The girl led the convict home, where she collected 29 pieces of new material garments, two kente garments, two pairs of ladies’ slippers, and four pieces of wax prints—all valued at GH¢20,000—belonging to the second complainant and her sister.

She also took an iPhone 6s valued at GH¢900 and GH¢170 in cash, claiming she needed the items for intercessory prayers to aid their deliverance.

Chief Inspector Ayimbisa said the convict went into hiding after collecting the items until October 13, 2025, when she was spotted and arrested at Abuakwa-Manhyia.

In her caution statement, she admitted to the theft and told the police that she had sold the items to someone at Kumasi-Krofrom but could not lead them to the buyer.

After further investigations, she was charged and brought before the court.

No document suggests OSP is dragging its feet on Ofori-Atta’s extradition – Senanu https://www.adomonline.com/no-document-suggests-osp-is-dragging-its-feet-on-ofori-attas-extradition-senanu/ Mon, 20 Oct 2025 14:13:47 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2590326 Anti-corruption campaigner Edem Sananu has dismissed recent media reports alleging that the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) is delaying or refusing to cooperate with the Attorney-General’s (AG) Department regarding the extradition of former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta.

Mr Sananu insists that the OSP has been proactive in the high-profile case, suggesting that the public debate should instead focus on the worrying leakage of confidential inter-agency correspondence.

He made the assertion during an interview on Joy FM, pushing back against claims that the Special Prosecutor, who initiated the investigation, is now obstructing the legal process to bring Mr Ofori-Atta back to Ghana to face corruption charges.

The anti-corruption advocate highlighted that the available information contradicts the narrative of OSP non-cooperation.

He pointed out that the OSP has consistently been the driving force behind the initial international efforts to apprehend the former Minister.

“I find it incredulous that anybody would think that the OSP, I mean, the documentation available is the OSP that has been consistently following up on this issue,” he added.

Mr Sananu also recalled the public pushback the OSP faced immediately after issuing an international law enforcement notice against Ofori-Atta.

The OSP, under its mandate to investigate and prosecute corruption, issued a Red Notice request to INTERPOL earlier this year to facilitate the arrest and extradition of Ofori-Atta, who reportedly left the country before corruption charges were formally brought against him.

“The OSP was criticised; you had the lawyers claiming that this red alert and all that was unnecessary.”

Despite this initial resistance, Mr Sananu’s sources suggest the OSP has been diligent in preparing its case file, which is crucial for a formal extradition request, a procedure that requires meticulously prepared evidence and legal documents under international treaties.

“My understanding from sources at the OSP is that they have been working to complete the investigative report and docket. And so you will not find any documentation that suggests that they were not willing to give information to the AGs.”

Mr Sananu expressed profound concern over the recent leak of correspondence between the OSP and the AG’s office regarding the complex extradition request, branding the leakage as a threat to national interest.

Extradition processes typically require a high degree of confidentiality and strict adherence to protocol under bilateral or multilateral treaties, such as the Commonwealth Scheme for Rendition of Fugitive Offenders.

“Equally scandalous, I find that the engagement between the OSP and the AGs on trying to get an extradition request done is now in the public domain.”

The campaigner argues that the focus should be shifted from internal blame to the integrity of state security and legal processes.

“I would rather the discourse be on how this got leaked because it undermines our capacity to make sure this extradition is done and done speedily.”

The AG’s Department is constitutionally mandated to handle all formal legal requests for extradition to foreign jurisdictions. The OSP’s role is to provide a complete, robust investigative docket and supporting evidence to the AG, who then makes the final formal request. The reported inter-agency friction threatens to delay the crucial legal step.

Mr Sananu concluded by expressing confidence that the OSP is poised to provide all necessary documentation to the AG’s office this week, effectively settling the cooperation dispute.

“So I don’t know who is just trying to undermine the progress of our country by taking such positions… This week, I’m quite clear in my mind, I’m quite clear from the information that the OSP will be providing information that what is required and is probably would have some kind of press something at some point.”

The development is closely monitored by the public, as the outcome of the Ofori-Atta case is widely viewed as a critical test of the effectiveness and independence of Ghana’s anti-corruption institutions.

OSP amends charges against Mustapha Hamid, others after fresh evidence emerges https://www.adomonline.com/osp-amends-charges-against-mustapha-hamid-others-after-fresh-evidence-emerges/ Mon, 20 Oct 2025 10:06:35 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2590238 The Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) has amended its charges against the former Chief Executive of the National Petroleum Authority (NPA), Dr. Mustapha Abdul-Hamid, and nine others, increasing the counts from 25 to 54.

The move follows the discovery of fresh evidence from ongoing investigations.

The other accused persons are Jacob Kwamina Amuah, Wendy Newman, Albert Ankrah, Isaac Mensah, Bright Bediako-Mensah, and Kwaku Aboagye Acquaah, together with Propnest Limited, Kel Logistics Limited, and Kings Energy Limited.

The amended charges were filed ahead of proceedings in the Accra High Court on Monday morning, October 20, 2025.

According to the OSP, the accused persons, including senior NPA officials and associated companies, face prosecution for large-scale extortion, abuse of public office, and money laundering, involving a total of GH¢291,574,087.19 and US$332,407.47.

The prosecution alleges that the accused extorted hundreds of millions of cedis and foreign currency from bulk oil transporters and oil marketing companies under the guise of official duties and subsequently laundered the proceeds through property acquisitions and business entities to conceal their origins.

The OSP has also confirmed that several assets belonging to the accused have been seized or frozen pending trial, including tanker trucks, fuel stations, houses, apartments, and parcels of land valued at over GH¢100 million.

The Special Prosecutor’s office says the latest amendment reflects new findings uncovered through ongoing forensic investigations into financial transactions linked to the accused persons.

Mason, 50, killed; body parts missing https://www.adomonline.com/mason-50-killed-body-parts-missing/ Sun, 19 Oct 2025 11:40:55 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2589905 A gruesome suspected ritual murder has shattered the calm of Domeabra Old Town in the Ga South Municipality, leaving residents terrified and calling for urgent government intervention.

The victim, identified only by his local nickname ‘Taller,’ a 50-year-old mason, was found dead in a horrific state, his body brutally mutilated with certain organs and tissues removed.

The chilling incident occurred inside an uncompleted building where ‘Taller’ lived. He was reportedly ambushed and killed by an unknown assailant or assailants who carefully harvested parts of his body.

Local authorities and investigators have classified the case as a suspected ritual killing, citing the nature of the injuries. Police data indicates that such crimes remain a serious concern in the region.

Assemblyman for the Domeabra Electoral Area, Joseph Akrashie, who has been working closely with the police, described the discovery in an interview with Adom News correspondent Kofi Adjei.

“Taller is well-known in the area, and we are shocked about what has happened to him,” Akrashie said, expressing the community’s disbelief.

He went on to share disturbing details of the police’s preliminary findings. “Investigations by the police indicate that the suspects cut the deceased’s left heel and thigh and removed all the veins in that part,” he revealed.

The precision of the mutilation suggested a deliberate extraction of tissue, pointing to possible ritual motives. The removed parts are believed to have been intended for use in ‘juju’ or spiritual practices often associated with the quest for wealth or power.

The Ghana Police Service Homicide Unit has since taken over the investigation. The body has been deposited at the Police Hospital Mortuary in Accra for autopsy to determine the exact cause of death and gather forensic evidence on the weapon used.

However, no arrests have been made yet, heightening tension and fear among residents.

Assemblyman Akrashie confirmed that the perpetrators remain at large, a situation that has left the community deeply anxious.

Some residents, gripped by fear, have appealed to the government and the Inspector General of Police to beef up security in the area to prevent further attacks.

“We don’t know who the next victim will be,” one resident said.

Adu-Boahene trial: Mildred Donkor played no role in alleged theft – Lawyer https://www.adomonline.com/adu-boahene-trial-mildred-donkor-played-no-role-in-alleged-theft-lawyer/ Fri, 17 Oct 2025 13:42:42 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2589642 Counsel for the discharged third accused person in the ongoing criminal case involving former Director-General of the National Signals Bureau (NSB), Kwabena Adu Boahene, has stated that his client had no involvement in the alleged theft and money laundering activities forming the basis of the trial.

Elikplim Agbemava, lawyer for Mildred Donkor, made the clarification after the Accra High Court on Friday, October 17, dismissed a defence application seeking to stay proceedings.

According to him, the specific charges in the case clearly show that his client was not part of the central figures accused of coordinating the alleged financial crimes.

“If you see, my client was not mentioned as being part of the crime of stealing. Her name only appears in count 10 or 11 or so. It’s pretty clear that in terms of the formation of whatever has gone wrong, she was not part of that conclave to decide on anything,” Mr Agbemava told journalists after court proceedings.

Meanwhile, the Attorney General Dr. Dominic Ayine, has withdrawn all charges against Ms Donkor under Section 59 of the Criminal and Other Offences (Procedure) Act, 1960 (Act 30), after she agreed to testify for the prosecution.

A formal notice signed by Deputy Attorney General Justice Srem-Sai and filed at the High Court confirmed the decision to discontinue her prosecution.

Ms Donkor will now serve as a prosecution witness in the ongoing trial involving Kwabena Adu-Boahene (1st Accused), Angela Adjei Boateng (2nd Accused), and Advantage Solutions Limited (4th Accused).

In her witness statement, she described her long-standing working relationship with the first and second accused persons, whom she said she met through the Cedar Mountain Assemblies of God Church in East Legon, Accra.

The case, which centres on allegations of theft and money laundering, remains before the Accra High Court.

Doctor arrested for allegedly killing wife months after wedding https://www.adomonline.com/doctor-arrested-for-allegedly-killing-wife-months-after-wedding/ Fri, 17 Oct 2025 11:38:25 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2589602 The family of 28-year-old dermatologist Dr Kritika Reddy, allegedly murdered by her husband Dr Mahendra Reddy, through precisely administered IV injections which induced an anaesthesia overdose, has alleged that the accused was allegedly pursuing an extra-marital relationship

“We had suspicions from the day my sister died. We insisted on a postmortem, but Mahendra staged an emotional drama saying he couldn’t bear to see her body being cut,” Kritika’s sister, Dr Nikhita, told reporters on Thursday.

She alleged that Mahendra had been administering unnecessary medicines and drips to Kritika. “She was completely healthy. My parents treated Mahendra like their own son. But later, we found out about his immoral relationship,” she said.

Police said Mahendra allegedly injected propofol — a powerful anaesthetic — into Kritika under the guise of treatment at their Marathahalli residence.

“Preliminary evidence suggests that Dr Mahendra Reddy deliberately administered the anaesthesia injection to end his wife’s life. We are examining call records, financial transactions, and forensic findings to establish the complete motive. More arrests cannot be ruled out as the probe deepens,” said DCP Parashuram.

Kritika’s sister also alleged that Mahendra had opposed her plan to start her own clinic. “She wanted to open a small clinic to help poor patients, but he never supported her. He didn’t even agree to register their marriage officially,” Nikhita said.

The family recalled that Mahendra had resisted the idea of a postmortem at the time of Kritika’s death. “He acted as if he was heartbroken and emotionally shattered, convincing us not to put her body through postmortem. But we demanded it, and later, the truth started to unfold,” Nikhita added.

Unable to continue living in the house where Kritika died, her family has donated the property to ISKCON. “Kritika always wanted to do good for others. We gave her home to God as a way to honour her memory,” they said.

Meanwhile, Victoria Hospital, where Mahendra previously worked, has distanced itself from the case, clarifying that he resigned months ago.

“Dr Mahendra Reddy was a certified gastro surgeon from Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences (RGUHS) for the academic year 2023–24. He completed his fellowship in March and worked on a contract basis until July 2, 2025, when he was relieved from his duties,” the hospital said in an official statement.

Police said they are investigating multiple angles, including an alleged affair, financial disputes, and premeditated intent. “It is premature to come to any conclusion about the motive. We will unearth it once the probe is completed,” DCP Parashuram added.

NSA scandal: Assibey Antwi, Gifty Oware to appear in court today https://www.adomonline.com/nsa-scandal-assibey-antwi-gifty-oware-to-appear-in-court-today/ Fri, 17 Oct 2025 10:11:01 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2589524 Former Executive Director of the National Service Authority (NSA), Osei Assibey Antwi, and his deputy, Gifty Oware, are scheduled to appear in court today, October 17, 2025, to face charges of alleged financial misconduct amounting to several million cedis.

Mr. Assibey Antwi is facing 14 counts, including causing financial loss to the state, stealing, and money laundering.

The charges are brought under sections 179A(1) and 124(1) of the Criminal Offences Act, 1960 (Act 29), and section 1(2)(c) of the Anti-Money Laundering Act, 2020 (Act 1044).

According to prosecutors, the former NSS boss allegedly approved payments to over 60,000 ghost national service personnel and diverted public funds during his tenure from August 2021 to February 2025.

His deputy, Gifty Oware, is also facing several charges, including stealing, money laundering, and abuse of office.

The Attorney-General’s Department claims she misappropriated about GH¢38.46 million between February 2022 and March 2024 while overseeing finance, audit, and procurement at the Authority.

Prosecutors further allege that Ms. Oware “dishonestly transferred GH¢31.5 million from a loan facility meant to support national service personnel into the account of her private firm, Blocks of Life Consult, under the guise of supplying goods on a hire-purchase arrangement.”

Ahmed Suale murder: Court discharges Daniel Koranteng following A-G’s advice https://www.adomonline.com/ahmed-suale-murder-court-discharges-daniel-koranteng-following-a-gs-advice/ Tue, 14 Oct 2025 14:23:25 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2588385 In a significant development in the protracted investigation into the 2019 murder of investigative journalist Ahmed Hussein-Suale, the Madina District Court has formally discharged Mr. Daniel Owusu Koranteng.

This decision follows a comprehensive review of the evidentiary materials by the Office of the Attorney-General (A-G) and subsequent legal advice issued to the prosecution.

The Honorable Court presided over by Her Worship Susan D. Nyakote’s decision implies that the Prosecution’s case case lacked the requisite evidentiary threshold to sustain charges of abetment of murder and murder against the accused.

The A-G’s legal opinion, grounded in a meticulous analysis of the police docket, concluded that the purported call records used to implicate Mr Koranteng were inconclusive and failed to establish any direct or circumstantial link between him and the commission of the offence.

Also, none of the sketches generated by the police based on vivid descriptions of the eye witnesses resemble the accused.

Pursuant to the directive of the Attorney-General, the prosecution has been advised to redirect its investigative efforts toward identifying and apprehending the principal perpetrators of the heinous crime, namely, the two unidentified gunmen who executed the fatal attack and remain at large six years after the incident.

The prosecution also notified the court that based on the advice received by the A-G, her instructions were that the accused be discharged.

Mr. Koranteng, who appeared in court clad in a white shirt symbolizing vindication and peace, was accompanied by his legal counsel, Emma-Jean Markin, Esq., and Frederick Gurah Sampson, Esq.

The discharge marks a legal and moral victory for Mr Koranteng, who has consistently maintained his innocence throughout the course of the investigation.

The discharge reaffirms the fundamental legal principle that an accused person is presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond reasonable doubt.

The decision not only clears Mr Koranteng’s name but also serves as a clarion call for a more targeted and effective pursuit of justice for the slain journalist.

Fisherman remanded over theft of GH¢50,800 and two mobile phones https://www.adomonline.com/fisherman-remanded-over-theft-of-gh%c2%a250800-and-two-mobile-phones/ Tue, 14 Oct 2025 06:42:32 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2588124 The Dansoman Circuit Court has remanded into police custody a fisherman for allegedly stealing GH¢50,800 and two mobile phones from a businessman’s vehicle in Accra Central.

Michael Dodoo is alleged to have carried out the crime on September 20, 2025, with three others whose names were given as Prince, Amuguaye, and Sadiku, currently at large.

Dodoo, 21, has pleaded not guilty to charges of conspiracy to commit crime, unlawful entry, and stealing.

He is expected to reappear on October 20 before the court presided over by Halimah El-Alawa Abdul-Bassit.

The prosecution, led by Chief Inspector Christopher Wonder, said the complainant, Seidu Mohammed, was a businessman and a resident of Koforidua.

Chief Inspector Wonder said the accused persons, Dodoo, Prince, Amuquaye and Sadiku resided at James Town in Accra.

On September 20, 2025, at about 0400 hours, the complainant parked his Opel vehicle in front of UBA Bank, Accra Central Branch, and without locking the doors, crossed the road to buy tea from a tea seller.

Prosecution said the complainant left his bag containing two Tecno mobile phones, valued at GHC 3,500, and cash amount of GHS 50,800 in the vehicle.

The four accused persons, who were also at the scene, hatched a plan to open the said vehicle and steal anything of value.

They entered the car by opening the front door and stole the phones and money, the prosecution said.

It said the police received information regarding the activities of the accused persons at the said location, and based on intelligence, they arrested Dodoo.

He was alleged to be one of the suspects engaged in breaking into vehicles of innocent owners who parked at the said location.

A search conducted on him revealed two Tecno mobile phones, which the complainant identified as those stolen from his car.

During the investigation, Dodoo informed the police that after stealing the phones and cash, and in their bid to share the booty, a fight ensued between the group.

Dodoo further stated that Amuquaye took custody of the money to be shared amongst them later.

Efforts were being made to arrest Prince, Amuguaye and Sadiku whilst investigations were underway, the prosecution said.

Court convicts former police officer for false pretense https://www.adomonline.com/court-convicts-former-police-officer-for-false-pretense/ Thu, 09 Oct 2025 19:03:24 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2587029 The Ashaiman District Court has convicted 54-year-old Kofi Boakye Frimpong, a former public officer, for falsely pretending to be a police officer in active service.

The court, presided over by Derick Pardden Eshun, convicted him on his own plea of guilty to the charge of falsely pretending to be a public officer (police officer).

    He pleaded for leniency.

The court, however, deferred his sentencing, remanding him into custody to reappear on October 14, 2025.

Inspector Henry Nartey Tetteh, prosecuting, said the complainants are police officers of Zenu-Attadeka MTTD who arrested and sent to the station the accused person.

They reported that on September 17, 2025, at about 09:00 hours, while at their duty point at the Zenu Star Fuel Station, they stopped Frimpong fully dressed in a tactical black long-sleeved police uniform with a chief inspector’s rank badge.

The prosecution added that the officers suspecting that he might not be a police officer engaged him briefly in a conversation, indicating that during the interaction, Frimpong suddenly jumped onto a motorbike and instructed the rider to speed off.

This, the prosecution noted, heightened their suspicion, and after a chase, he was arrested and sent to the police station.

The facts stated that upon interrogation, it was established that Frimpong is a dismissed chief inspector who has relocated to Ashaiman and is still wearing a police uniform and holding himself out as a police officer.

The accused person was subsequently charged with the offence while the investigation continued.

Criminologist applauds police for arresting Wa serial killer https://www.adomonline.com/criminologist-applauds-police-for-arresting-wa-serial-killer/ Thu, 09 Oct 2025 13:09:55 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2586896 A lecturer and criminologist at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Dr Jones Opoku-Ware, has praised the Ghana Police Service for arresting two suspects in connection with the Wa killings, describing the breakthrough as a major achievement in crime detection.

His remarks follow police confirmation that two suspects have been arrested in Wa, with one confessing to 15 killings.

Speaking on the JoyNews AM Show, Dr Opoku-Ware described the arrest as a remarkable achievement, noting that identifying serial killers is one of the most challenging tasks for security agencies worldwide.

“All over the world, you know, when it comes to serial killing, these are one of the types of murders that are very difficult to identify the perpetrators of. So if you look at the way they operate, it is not easy for you to identify them.

“What they do is that they engage in very geographically unrelated kinds of operations, so it becomes tough for you to be able to connect to one particular person at a relatively shorter point in time,” he said.

He explained that many serial killers are difficult to identify because they often live normal lives within their communities.

“Many serial killers, as we know over the period, are people that walk in plain sight. I mean they are people that live with us within a community; they are not sophisticated people.

“So they will be living with us, but we wouldn’t know these are the kinds of activities they engage in. It makes it very difficult for us to be able to profile and identify them over the period,” he said.

Dr. Opoku-Ware said it often takes years for police to track and link such crimes together, describing the Wa arrest as a major success.

“If we look at the consistency and the popularity of these kinds of operations, let me be very honest: it is very difficult for you to identify. That is why a lot of times, they are able to have these opportunities to do these kinds of activities over a long period of time before finally the police are able to pick up the trail and get to them,” he stated.

He further commended the police for connecting the dots within a relatively short period, saying it usually takes much longer to arrest serial killers.

“Actually, I want to even congratulate the police because, from what I know, if you look at the period of his operations, that’s from 2021 until now, which is basically like five years. In fact, throughout history we have had serial killers operate more than 10 or 15 years before the police are able to get to their heels,” he said.

“If you look at the profiling of serial killers, their activities are very temporal and unrelated and geographically spread. They have something we call a ‘cooling-off period’—sometimes they strike and move to another place, relax for some time and then strike and move to another place and strike,” he added.

Dr Opoku-Ware said this pattern makes it “very difficult for the security agencies to be on track,” explaining that linking crimes committed in different areas requires time and patience.

“You need a lot of time to be able to pick the chain to connect it to a particular person or group of people who do those kinds of operations.

“It’s something that is very complex, and over the years, if you look at crime literature, you will get to know that it’s been very, very difficult all over the world to pin down serial killers because of their modus operandi, which we call the MO,” he said.

“So it is very key when we have to talk about what the police have done in the Upper West Region. I think I will really give it up to them because they’ve been able to use the trace and all the key things that the person must have left and been able to connect all the dots and hand it to this person. So I think they’ve really done well,” he stressed.

On whether it is normal for one person to kill 15 people, Dr Opoku-Ware said such cases are often linked to mental health conditions.

“If you look at the typology of serial killers, many of them have been diagnosed with certain mental conditions, especially schizophrenia. So a lot of time, if we are to do a proper assessment of these kinds of guys, we need to also take into account their psychological state at any point in time,” he said.

He added that some killers are driven by thrill, others by financial motives, or both.

“We have those that we call the spree killers — they kill for fun; they get some kind of thrill, and most of the time when you interview them, they tell you that they hear voices in their head that tell them to go and kill.

“So if you have such kinds of people on the loose, it means that apart from the fact that they are committing murder, they actually derive some form of joy from the very act that they commit,” he explained.

Commenting on the Wa suspect, Dr Opoku-Ware said:

“If you look at the pattern of what we have, the guy that we’ve arrested now, apart from the fact that I suspect this form of thrill-seeking behaviour, I also see some form of the classic typology of the serial killers who want to get some form of financial reward. But then what is even more interesting is the choice of people this guy was targeting—mad people and watchmen.”

Suspect confesses to killing 15 people as Police probe security man’s murder in Wa https://www.adomonline.com/suspect-confesses-to-killing-15-people-as-police-probe-security-mans-murder-in-wa/ Wed, 08 Oct 2025 18:11:58 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2586634 Two suspects have been taken into custody following the murder of a night security guard, with one of them reportedly confessing to the killing of 15 individuals across multiple communities.

The revelation was made by the Upper West Regional Police Commander, ACP Francis Yiribaare, during a press briefing on Wednesday.

Police say the alleged killings, which include three incidents in Bole and Banda in the Savannah Region, appear to form part of a larger pattern of targeted attacks.

According to the police, the main suspect, identified as Sherif Abdullai, confessed during interrogation that he had been killing night watchmen and mentally ill persons since 2021.

“He admitted responsibility for the murder of 15 people in the Wa Municipality prior to the recent killing of Issah Yahaya, the security guard,” ACP Yiribaare stated.

“He further confessed to killing three mentally ill persons and two watchmen in Bole, one mentally ill man in Banda Nkwanta, and one woman in Bamboi — all within the Savannah Region. He reportedly carried the victims into nearby bushes and buried them secretly.”

Both suspects remain in police custody, assisting with investigations.

The confession follows renewed concern in Wa, where several night guards have been killed or gone missing in recent years. One of the most recent victims, Issah Yahaya, also known as “Soldier,” was found dead under a shed near Wa’s new market with deep head wounds and a knife placed on his chest.

Authorities say the pattern of violence resembles a series of gruesome killings reported in 2022, which sparked widespread fear and speculation about possible ritual motives.

Police have assured the public that investigations are ongoing and that they are working closely with local leaders to bring an end to the killings.

Two nannies arrested for allegedly drugging twin toddlers in East Legon https://www.adomonline.com/two-nannies-arrested-for-allegedly-drugging-twin-toddlers-in-east-legon/ Wed, 08 Oct 2025 16:38:00 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2586612 The Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU) under the Airport Divisional Police Command in Accra has arrested two nannies accused of giving sleep-inducing substances to twin toddlers in their care.

Head of the Public Affairs Unit of the Ghana Police Service, Superintendent Juliana Obeng, confirmed the development at a press briefing.

The suspects have been identified as Francisca Boakye, 30, a student nurse from Konongo in the Ashanti Region, and Harriet Ansah, 31, from Jasikan in the Oti Region.

They were taken into custody following a complaint lodged by the children’s mother, a 40-year-old businesswoman, in September 2025.

The mother had reportedly observed that her two-year-old twins often appeared unusually drowsy and showed strange behavioural changes over time.

Her suspicions led to further checks, which uncovered a disturbing revelation, the nannies had allegedly been mixing an unknown sleep-inducing substance into the children’s milk without her consent.

“They claimed the substance made the children sleep for longer hours so they could focus on other household chores,” Superintendent Obeng explained during a media briefing.

Further investigations by the police revealed that Harriet Ansah confessed to the act and claimed she learned the practice from her colleague, Francisca Boakye.

Ansah is also alleged to have admitted to other abusive behaviours, including hitting the children on the head with fire and using derogatory names such as “chimpanzee” to address them.

The suspects, who had been employed by the complainant for the past eight months, were found in possession of two used sachets and four unused sachets of substances suspected to be linked to the alleged abuse. The police have since sent the items for forensic analysis.

Both suspects have been formally charged and remain in police custody pending their next court appearance on October 20, 2025.

The Greater Accra Regional Police Command has strongly condemned the incident, describing it as “inhumane and unacceptable.”

Superintendent Obeng also urged parents and guardians to be more cautious and vigilant in monitoring domestic workers, especially those responsible for children and other vulnerable individuals.

Police say further updates on the case will be shared as investigations progress.

Both men, who are among the five accused persons and entities, were granted bail in the sum of GHC10 million each with two sureties, one of whom must justify the bail with landed property.

As part of the bail conditions, the accused are to submit their passports to the court registrar and report to the investigator every two weeks until further notice.

At their first court appearance, Chairman Wontumi and Mr. Akuoko pleaded not guilty to all charges.

They are standing trial alongside Akonta Mining Limited, its co-director Kwame Antwi, and Operations Manager Kwadwo Owusu Bempah, both of whom are currently at large.

The Ghanaians have been identified as Nana Yaw Sarpong Boateng, Sowa Elisha, Evans Arhin, and Arnold Otutey.

The suspects were arrested at the SSNIT Emporium near Marina Mall following weeks of intelligence gathering and covert operations by the task force.

In a statement, Goldbod explained that the suspects were arrested while attempting to purchase and assay approximately 2.1 kilograms of gold, estimated at GH₵2.2 million, without authorisation as required under the Ghana Gold Board Act, 2025 (Act 1140).

Authorities also retrieved gold refining equipment from the American suspect, which they believe was intended for illicit refining within Ghana’s jurisdiction.

All six suspects have since appeared before the Accra High Court to face charges of conspiracy to trade in gold without a licence, engaging in unauthorized gold trading and assaying, and attempting to refine gold illegally, offences contrary to Sections 23(1) of the Criminal Offences Act, 1960 (Act 29) and Section 26(1) of the Ghana Gold Board Act, 2025 (Act 1140).

The Gold Board emphasized that the arrests reflect its continued resolve to uphold the integrity of Ghana’s gold trade and ensure that only certified entities operate within the law.

It further cautioned both locals and foreigners that dealing in gold, whether buying, selling, assaying, or refining, without proper licensing remains a criminal act subject to prosecution.

Investigations into the matter are ongoing.

He is charged alongside Kwame Antwi and Akonta Mining Company Limited, which is owned by Wontumi. According to court documents, the second accused, Kwame Antwi, is currently at large.

The charges stem from alleged unauthorised mining operations at Samreboi in the Western Region and are grounded in the Minerals and Mining Act, 2006 (Act 703), as amended by the Minerals and Mining (Amendment) Act, 2019 (Act 995).

In the first charge, prosecutors claim that in 2024, Wontumi allowed two individuals, Henry Okum and Michael Gyedu Ayisi, to conduct mining activities within Akonta Mining’s concession without obtaining written approval from the Minister of Lands and Natural Resources. This, according to the Attorney-General, breaches Sections 14(1) and 99(2)(b) of the Minerals and Mining Act.

A similar charge has been brought against Kwame Antwi, who, as a director of Akonta Mining, is also accused of permitting unauthorised mining within the same concession, violating the same provisions of the law.

The third charge targets Akonta Mining Company Limited itself. The firm is alleged to have allowed unauthorised mining to take place on its concession without the required ministerial consent, making it liable under corporate responsibility provisions of the Act.

The Attorney-General further accuses Wontumi of deliberately facilitating mining activities by the same two individuals, who did not hold valid licences to operate. Prosecutors contend that he enabled their operations within Akonta Mining’s concession in breach of the Minerals and Mining Act.

Kwame Antwi faces a similar allegation of intentionally aiding unlicensed miners on the company’s concession. The state maintains that his conduct also constitutes a violation of the same legal provisions.

The final count is directed at Akonta Mining Company Limited, with the company accused of enabling unlicensed mining within its concession — an act that constitutes a corporate offence under Section 99(2)(b) of Act 703.

The case, filed on October 6, 2025, by the Attorney-General’s Office led by Dr. Dominic Ayine, highlights the state’s increasing use of existing mining laws to address the growing menace of illegal mining, popularly known as galamsey. It is expected to test the extent of both individual and corporate accountability under Ghana’s mining regulations.

Customs officer in court for allegedly extorting GH¢2,000 from traveller at KIA https://www.adomonline.com/customs-officer-in-court-for-allegedly-extorting-gh%c2%a22000-from-traveller-at-kia/ Tue, 07 Oct 2025 08:03:36 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2585961 A Customs Officer has appeared before the Adenta Circuit Court for allegedly extorting GH¢2,000 from a businessman at Terminal 3 of the Kotoka International Airport (KIA).

The accused, Torgbe Agbeti Dordoe, 43, has been charged with extortion but pleaded not guilty.

The court, presided over by Mrs Angela Attachie, granted him bail in the sum of GH¢10,000 with one surety to be justified. The case has been adjourned to January 21, 2026.

The prosecution, led by Chief Inspector Maxwell Lanyo, said the complainant, whose name has been withheld, resides at Airport West in Accra, while the accused is a Revenue Officer with the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) Customs Division, stationed at KIA.

According to the prosecution, the complainant reported to the police that he arrived in Ghana from Dubai on November 28, 2024, with two sets of Bose musical instruments.

During arrival formalities at the airport, Dordoe, who was on duty, assessed the Customs duty on the items at GH¢21,000, which the complainant paid and for which he was issued a receipt.

The complainant later reminded Dordoe that he had already paid duty for the same items during a previous arrival in the country.

Dordoe then allegedly demanded an additional GH¢2,000 in cash as Customs duty but failed to issue a receipt for that payment.

When the complainant requested that the duty be verified in the system and an official receipt issued, the accused allegedly ignored the request.

The complainant subsequently lodged a report at the Airport Police Station, leading to an invitation being sent to Dordoe for questioning.

Chief Inspector Lanyo said the accused informed the police officers that he was on duty and requested to report to the station on February 17, 2025.

On February 20, 2025, a letter was sent to the Officer in Charge of the GRA Customs Division at the airport, requesting confirmation of the incident and details of the duty collected by the accused, but no response was received.

A follow-up letter was later sent to the Customs Headquarters on April 4, 2025, requesting that the accused be released to assist in investigations, but again, no response was received.

On April 28, 2025, Dordoe was served with a criminal summons to appear before the court on May 12, 2025.

He appeared on the said date, was arrested, and subsequently charged.

The suspect, known as Efo Kofi, allegedly inflicted multiple cutlass wounds on Williams during the violent assault on Monday, October 7, 2025.

Confirming the incident to Adom News, an eyewitness and sister of the victim, Larbi Ohenewaa Mercy, said she saw the suspect attacking her brother and quickly called for help.

“I saw my sister’s lover, Efo, cutting my brother with a cutlass. We rushed to rescue him and sent him to the hospital,” she recounted.

According to her, the suspect had long-standing issues with the family after his relationship with their sister ended due to what she described as his “strange and chaotic behaviour.”

“He has always blamed us for the breakup, and yesterday he attacked my brother from behind, cutting his neck, face, back, hands, and legs. He nearly killed him,” she added.

The Abirem District Police Command later arrested the suspect following the incident.

Behenase murder: Family rejects body over GH¢12,000 autopsy fee dispute https://www.adomonline.com/behenase-murder-family-rejects-body-over-gh%c2%a212000-autopsy-fee-dispute/ Sat, 04 Oct 2025 13:14:14 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2585280

The family of a 52-year-old woman who was allegedly murdered at Kwahu Behenase has refused to take custody of her body, citing an inability to pay what they claim is a GH¢12,000 autopsy fee.

According to the deceased’s brother, Agya Noah, the family does not have the financial means to meet the reported demand and is only able to offer GH¢2,000.

He said this has created a standoff with the Nkawkaw police command.

When contacted, Nkawkaw District Police Commander, Chief Superintendent Victor Kwakye, clarified to Adom News that although the family was informed about the requirement for an autopsy, no specific amount was mentioned by the police.

He explained that under Ghanaian law, an autopsy must be carried out before the body can be released to relatives.

He advised that the family could negotiate directly with medical doctors to reduce the fee, given their financial situation.

Chief Supt. Kwakye also noted that if the family still feels burdened, they may consider seeking legal options to address their concerns regarding the payment.

The case remains under investigation as the family and authorities attempt to resolve the impasse.
