The exercise, according to officials, is aimed at reducing the population of insects and rodents that have become prevalent in the market environment.

Director of Communications for GUTA, Joseph Paddy, said the initiative forms part of a nationwide effort to fumigate and disinfect major markets. He noted that since the outbreak of COVID-19, no market in the country has undergone such a comprehensive disinfection exercise.

Mr. Paddy urged market managers and traders to maintain strict cleanliness by avoiding indiscriminate urination, littering, and leaving electrical gadgets unattended. These acts, he said, could trigger disease outbreaks or fire incidents. He called for continuous education and advocacy to keep the market environment safe.

He further revealed that the disinfection exercise will be extended to schools, hospitals, markets, and other areas where human activity is high.

Mr. Paddy also appealed to the government to expedite work on the Kejetia Phase Two project to reduce congestion across markets in the Kumasi metropolis.

The Ashanti Regional Vice President of GUTA, Nana Nyame, is optimistic the current administration will deliver the Kejetia Phase 2 project by 2026.

He also highlighted the challenge of electricity meters in the market, explaining that many traders struggle to pay their bills.

Nana Nyame advised the management of the Kejetia-Dubai Market to enforce order and control traders who operate along the roadside, noting that the practice worsens congestion and poses safety risks.

Work on Ofankor-Nsawam road progresses steadily but residents raise concerns about design https://www.adomonline.com/work-on-ofankor-nsawam-road-progresses-steadily-but-residents-raise-concerns-about-design/ Sat, 23 Aug 2025 18:52:14 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2570429 Work on the Ofankor-Nsawam road is progressing steadily, with workers seen at the site doing concrete work and road filling.

However, despite the progress, residents of Shikpong Telle have raised concerns about the lack of a footbridge, which they believe would help reduce road accidents.

Residents who spoke to Adom News expressed their worries about the safety of pedestrians, especially children and the elderly, who have to cross the road daily.

They appealed for a footbridge to be constructed to provide a safe crossing point.

“We have to walk about 1 and half kilometers to Toll Man everyday to use the footbridge because we don’t have one here at Shikpong Telle”.

Adom News captured footage of women carrying their babies crossing the road, highlighting the risks that pedestrians take daily.

“We stay at Kuntunse-Satellite going to church at Pobiman we have always cross the road because the closes footbridge is not complete so we are afraid to use it.”

The residents’ concerns underscore the need for a footbridge to ensure the safety of pedestrians and prevent accidents.

Abena Opokua Ahwenee: The voice, fire and fearless heart of Akan radio https://www.adomonline.com/abena-opokua-ahwenee-the-voice-fire-and-fearless-heart-of-akan-radio/ Wed, 18 Jun 2025 10:17:53 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2545900 When Abena Opokua Ahwenee steps behind the microphone, the airwaves come alive, not just with sound, but with soul.

A vibrant, fearless and spirited radio host, Abena commands the attention of thousands each morning on Adom FM’s flagship show, Dwaso Nsem, where she co-hosts the news segment with wit, warmth, and an unflinching sense of purpose.

But behind the bubbly voice and on-air banter is a woman forged by grit, grace, and a remarkable journey of persistence.

Born Opokua Patience, her passion for radio burned bright long before formal training or accolades.

Straight after Senior High School, Abena, who loves to be addressed as Ahwenee, traded the usual route for a radio studio, starting her journey at Life FM in Nkawkaw, reading the news and learning the ropes the hard way.

From there, her path looped through Hi FM, Agoo FM, and Dadi FM, where she rose to the role of Head of Station.

But not all chapters in Ahwenee’s story were pleasant.

One of the darkest moments of her life came when she was unjustly dismissed from Hi FM by a station director after she refused his inappropriate advances, a painful but defining moment that tested her spirit and refined her mission.

“I cried and cried,” she admits. “But I never gave up. I had rented a three-year apartment and only stayed nine months, yet I held on.”

That experience didn’t break her. It became the fire in her voice, the truth in her storytelling, and the authenticity that her audience love her for today.

Abena Ahwenee is a genre-bending powerhouse. While she thrives on hard-hitting political and social journalism, she spices it up with humour and realness that speaks to the everyday Ghanaian.

Her news delivery is sharp, her analysis deeply insightful, and her sense of humour? Simply addictive.

But make no mistake; beneath the charm is a journalist anchored in integrity. “As a journalist, truth is non-negotiable,” she says. “I hold leaders accountable, not because it’s easy, but because the people deserve honesty, transparency, and results.”

Abena’s works have not gone unrecognised and rightfully so.

She has been crowned with accolades such as:

  • Eastern Regional Best News Caster (Foklex Media Awards, 2016/2017)
  • Female Newscaster of the Year (Foklex Media Awards, 2017/2018)
  • Ghana Outstanding Woman in Radio (GOWA Awards, 2022)
  • Female Radio Personality of the Year (Diamond Excellence Awards, 2022 and Konama’s Entertainment Awards, 2023)

Abena’s voice doesn’t just dominate the dial; it resonates across TikTok, where she boasts over 21,000 followers, and Facebook, where she commands over 25,000 followers and every minute, fans flock to these platforms for her bold takes, hilarious skits, and community engagement.

Despite a rocky start, including practicing with funeral posters in her bedroom just to master long-form announcements, she pushed herself into mastery.

“One day I got caught removing a poster that wasn’t past its date,” she recalls with laughter. “I had to kneel and beg. But I was determined.”

One other thing that defines Abena is compassion as today, she’s not just informing the public, she’s impacting lives through her Opokua Ahwenee Foundation; she leads outreach in rural Ghana, focusing on health and education.

Her dream? To establish pad banks in underserved communities and tour university campuses to inspire young women with her story of resilience.

Currently pursuing a Master’s degree in International Relations and Diplomacy at the University of Ghana, Ahwenee is preparing for a greater impact on air, online, and on the ground, following her diploma and bachelor’s degree in Communications.

Her mantra? A bold quote from Christiane Amanpour:

“We are not here to be liked. We are here to be trusted.”

And trusted, she is. Loved, even more so.

Abena Opokua Ahwenee is more than just a radio host. She’s a movement. A fighter. A truth-teller with rhythm, and a woman whose voice carries the weight and the joy of the people.

To listen to Abena on the radio, tune in to Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem every weekday from 5:45 am to 10:30 am. You can also catch Abena on Adom Kasea on Adom TV.

It hasn’t been rosy – Joy News’ Sweety Aborchie opens up about humble beginnings [Video] https://www.adomonline.com/it-hasnt-been-rosy-joy-news-sweety-aborchie-opens-up-about-humble-beginnings-video/ Fri, 24 Jan 2025 10:14:41 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2496611

Multimedia Group journalist Sweety Aborchie has candidly shared her journey from rags to success, describing it as a journey of dreams and resilience.

The co-host of JoyNews’ breakfast programme, AM Show, emphasized the transformative nature of her life story, stating that it was far from rosy.

“I am a product of dreams and the manifestations of the things I dream about,” she said.

Taking her turn on Adom TV’s M’ashyase3, Sweety told Afia Amankwa Tamakloe that her father had a beautiful work life as an employee at Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC). However, their family life and finances were nothing to write home about as they were poverty-stricken.

Born in Bolgatanga, Sweety revealed she grew up in Lashibi Community 16, where her mother operated a chop bar.

“I have been every kind of girl before. I didn’t come from money while living in Lashibi, but we were known as the poorest family. My father’s work life was beautiful, but coming home, the picture was different,” she recalled.

Due to the family’s situation, the celebrated broadcaster recounted having to live with different relatives at a point in her life.

“I used to move around a lot, and my father always told me I was different and there was something special about me. I don’t know what he saw then, but now I believe it. It hasn’t been all nice and rosy,” she narrated.

Despite her struggles, she defied all odds, and her rise in the media landscape has been driven by her intellect, engaging presence, and commitment to storytelling.

Sweety’s journey began in 2016 when she debuted as a news anchor on GTV Sports+ and took on numerous roles as a producer and director on several popular TV shows in Ghana, including Joy Prime’s Big Chef.

“It was my father’s name that opened the door for my debut on GTV Sports+. George Lomotey, who was my dad’s mentee, took me as his younger sister and gave me my first shot at TV,” she happily stated.

After a brief hiatus, she returned to the screen in 2022 and now hosts the morning show on JoyNews, Ghana’s only 24-hour news channel.

Beyond broadcasting, Sweety has made an impact through Girl Getup Africa, a non-profit organization that provides mentorship, skills training, and resources to young women.

I used to write letters to Komla Dumor – Emefa Apawu https://www.adomonline.com/i-used-to-write-letters-to-komla-dumor-emefa-apawu/ Tue, 07 May 2024 21:08:19 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2391303 Joy News/FM anchor, Emefa Apawu has opened up on how she idolised late BBC broadcaster, Komla Dumor while growing up as a child.

Emefa said she used to write letters to the broadcaster just to tell him how much she admired and wanted to be like him in the journalism field.

Miss Apawu who has been a journalist for almost 2 decades disclosed this to Afia Amankwa Tamakloe on Adom TV’s M’ashyase3.

Her love for Mr Dumor according to her earned her the name, Komla Dumor in SHS.

“These letters found their way to be read live on Joy FM and I also had the opportunity to meet him after JHS just before I entered into OLA Girls.

“He encouraged me not to give up on my journalism passion, especially since my father wanted me to pursue General Science and he used his life and similar experiences he had to go through.

“I didn’t get to work with him but the message he left me has inspired me to date and so his death hit me. Likewise that of late Joy General Manager. These are the two people in the media industry whose death I’m still finding it difficult to get over,” she narrated.

However, Emefa said she always takes solace in the fact that the works and legacies of these personalities live on for people to learn from.

Gloria Sarfo recounts embarrassing moment with taxi driver https://www.adomonline.com/gloria-sarfo-recounts-embarrassing-moment-with-taxi-driver/ Tue, 07 May 2024 21:03:52 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2391314 Ghanaian actress, Gloria Sarfo has shared her grass-to-grace story.

She recounted one of her most embarrassing encounter with a taxi driver.

According to her, she became the support system of her family at an early age while struggling to find her feet in her career.

As a result, she sometimes could barely afford to pay for transportation fares moving from one audition to another.

“And because trotro wasn’t ideal, I will hire a taxi with the hope of calling someone to ask for money to pay him when I get to my destination.

“There are times I will get down from the taxi just to make calls but won’t get the money to pay or even if I do, the money would have to cater for the house because it was that tough,” she narrated to Afia Amankwa Tamakloe on Adom TV M’ashyase3.

On one of such adventures, Miss Sarfo said she asked the taxi driver to come for the money at her home in Burma Camp where she stayed with her family at the time even though there was none to give.

“This taxi driver came early morning even before we woke up and was visibly angry because of the way he banged on the door and drew the attention of our neighbours. It was a very embarrassing moment for me but I had to endure,” she said.

Despite the difficult start of her career, Miss Sarfo said she is always grateful to God for helping her to break boundaries.

“Now these taxi drivers are my friends and I share with them what God has blessed me with from time to time,” she said.

Interesting details about Joy News’ Emefa Apawu you probably did not know [Video] https://www.adomonline.com/interesting-details-about-joy-news-emefa-apawu-you-probably-did-not-know-video/ Sat, 04 May 2024 13:25:28 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2389761

Aside her presence in the media space and passion for journalism, Joy News’ Irene Emefa Apawu has lived a life full of surprises; some pleasant, some a little frustrating.

Taking her turn on Adom TV’s M’ashyase3 show, Ms. Apawu unveiled some interesting details of her life, from her childhood to her present state as a proud mother of two; a girl and boy.

Emefa hails from Anfoega Akukorme in the Volta Region and is the daughter of Gladys Esi Tecku and the late Moses Kodzo Apawu.

Born in Accra, she had to go to the boarding house at St Johns Preparatory School at age 5 due to the business schedule of his dad.

She continued at St. Anthony’s School, South Odorkor and proceeded to Our Lady of Apostles (OLA) Girls’ Secondary School in Ho, where she pursued General Science .

Despite her journalistic prowess which she exhibited from childhood, Emefa had to pursue General Science against her will but to satisfy the desires of her dad who admired nurses.

That, however, did not dash her hopes of becoming the journalist she was passionate about.

In 2003, Emefa had the opportunity to work at Radio Gold as a production assistant after she was discovered by James Agyenim Boateng.

She later worked at XFM, Radio XYZ and she was once a morning show host at Class FM.

Now, she is a voice many people love to listen to on radio and TV.

Emefa is the host of the midday news and News night on Joy 99.7 FM and also the host of “The Probe” on JOYNEWS.

“Just when my career took off and my name was making waves, I lost my dad, but he enjoyed a bit of the moment because he received several calls from people telling him about how they enjoy listening to me.

“His death in 2007 was a big blow because I was pregnant with my daughter and my dad was the support system throughout those moments,” she recounted.

Though many may say Emefa is currently leaving her dream, that did not stop her from climbing higher on the educational ladder.

Emefa obtained her first degree in Management at Central University and a master’s degree in Development Communication at the Ghana Institute of Journalism.

She later pursued her second postgraduate degree programme in Defense and International Politics as well as a certificate course in conflict resolution and crisis management, both at the Ghana Armed Forces Command and Staff College.

This, according to her, was to equip her for the job as the head of the Joy newsroom security desk.

In 2021, Emefa Apawu was declared the media excellence honoree at the Africa media honours and earlier in 2020 at the 25th Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) awards, she was awarded for her exceptional COVID-19 reporting.

Aside that, she has been honoured by several institutions for her exceptional journalistic work.

“I get excited when I see my friends getting married and giving birth but I never let it get to me and I sometimes wondered if I was even normal. Even though it is not late, I wish I could marry earlier because it would have helped,” she stated.

“Talking about what may have accounted for the delay, Miss Koomson said growing up, she was more focused on her career and the quest to succeed.

Also, she said it was probably due to the perception men have about her as a news anchor on television.

“Men sometimes feel intimidated when they see you because you look larger on TV. Some people will also think you are already dating and find it difficult to approach you but I am very down to earth,” she said.

Expressing appreciation to God, the ace journalist revealed she is in a relationship but not in a hurry to make the man public.

“It has been challenging but God has been faithful. I have someone but he will be known in due time because if he is publicly knowledge. It will give people the chance to say all sorts of things about the relationship,” she added.

Prior to this, the musician told show host Afia Amankwa Tamakloe she had the opportunity to work at Graphic Communications Group Limited, specifically Mirror, as a reporter in 2003.

“This was an internship opportunity I had through my lecturer because I was pursuing English at the university,” she stated.

Touching on her banking career, Abena Ruthy disclosed it took off at the SG-SSB, now Societe Generale, where she did her national service.

“I was with the Money Remittances Department and had a contract after my national service, but I needed a permanent job, so I left for Zenith Bank in 2006 and worked for two years, first as a teller and then as a marketing officer” she said.

I had to stay with about 10 stepmothers while growing up – Fredima https://www.adomonline.com/i-had-to-stay-with-about-10-stepmothers-while-growing-up-fredima/ Tue, 15 Aug 2023 14:11:14 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2283662 Sound engineer Fred Kyei Mensah has opened up about how his parents’ divorce left him devastated and almost affected his education.

Sharing his grass-to-grace story, Fredima, as he is popularly known, stated he had to stay with about 10 stepmothers following his parents’ divorce.

Speaking on Adom TV’ M’ashyase3, Fredima recounted that the divorce happened the day he was to sit for his O’ level exams at Prempeh College.

He, however, did not state whether his father married all those women or they were mistresses.

“I had my JSS education at Royal International School between 1973 and 1979/80. I continued at Prempeh College and studied science because I wanted to go to medical school.

“But the painful thing was that my parents divorced on the day I was writing O’ level and it affected me a lot. It didn’t help me in any way,” he told Afia Amankwa Tamakloe.

Despite the difficult situation, the renowned sound engineer said his aunty offered him an opportunity to come and live in Accra.

This, he said, came with a promise to sponsor his medical school education, but there was a change in plans after his sponsor, who was his aunty’s husband, inquired about the fees.

“It was expensive, so I had to work for some time to save money. I was able to get a job as a filling station manager, and later, my aunty’s husband secured me a job at Ghana Airways where he worked.

“Through that, I got an opportunity to school abroad to become a pilot. I sat for the entrance exams at Legon and excelled, all set for my trip, but just a day before, Rawlings, as part of the coup, cancelled the programme so it couldn’t happen,” he narrated.

Amidst the ups and downs, Fredima said he is grateful to God for how far he has brought him in life.

Although his desire to become a medical doctor did not come to pass, he noted he is full of praise that God has used music, which has been his hobby since childhood, to bless, impact lives, and also make income through it.

Narrating the terrifying experience, Fredima recounted that he was in a queue waiting to enter the cinema but decided to quickly buy Waakye before the movie.

“We were on vacation but attending classes, so I decided to go to the cinema on one of the days. I left my bag in the queue to buy the food, and just at that moment, there was a military raid, and someone kept a cigarette, which was an essential commodity around that time, in my bag and ran off.

“Unfortunately, the cigarette was found on me during a search, and I was arrested. Immediately, a young soldier, but for an order from his commander, corked his gun, ready to shoot me. I was severely beaten and slapped,” he told Afia Amankwa Tamakloe on Adom TV M’ashyase3.

Fredima narrated that he was taken to the Kumasi Central police station and was about to be taken into the cell when the CID intervened.

From receptionist to first Ghanaian MD of Labadi Beach Hotel; The story of David Eduaful [Video] https://www.adomonline.com/from-receptionist-to-first-ghanaian-md-of-labadi-beach-hotel-the-story-of-david-eduaful-video/ Mon, 14 Aug 2023 16:01:07 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2283175

His little beginnings did not deter him from working hard and striving for success instead, he defied all odds to be at the top of the hospitality industry.

In a historic turn of events, he is the first-ever Ghanaian Managing Director of a five-Star hotel, Labadi Beach.

This is the story of David Eduaful who rose through various ranks at the prestigious hotel.

As a native of Akim Oda in the Eastern Region, where he spent part of his formative years, David came to Accra to continue his basic education at Sempe 1 and 2 and moved on to Accra Academy, but it was not without struggle.

He recalled selling paper bags and iced water to support his family financially.

Speaking on his journey and achievements so far in the hospitality industry, Mr Eduaful stated that it all started as a night auditor.

“From being a night auditor through to an assistant night manager, I was demoted to a shift leader at the reception, then moved to become a guest relations manager, then to a sales executive, then to an assistant house manager, and became the substantive house manager,” he recounted.

Mr Eduaful shared his incredible and inspiring story when he took his turn on Adom TV’s M’ashyase3 with Afia Amankwa Tamakloe.

He revealed he was driven by passion and was introduced to the job by his cousin, who worked at Novotel Hotel some years ago, now Accra City Hotel.

According to him, he was pained by the demotion, which was planned because he was going to lose his position and suffer a salary deduction but was inspired by a message the manager left him.

“My manager at the time was from England so he called me one day to inform me I was too good with the job but as a night manager, nobody will see me, hence wanted to bring me to day and the only position available was shift leader which was even below assistant night manager,” he recalled.

This year, Mr Eduaful will be 31 years at Labadi Beach Hotel and sharing some challenges encountered, he revealed he got suspended.

He said he innocently changed fake money for a guy at the Forex bureau during his night shift.

“It was a tough time for me because I had to work and pay with my salary to make up for it so I picked up other jobs to survive. I really suffered but the guy was arrested by the police, made to pay the money and I was vindicated.

“It will be a lie if I say the journey has been all smooth. It’s been tough, but with determination, humility, confidence and passion for what I do, I have come this far,” he said.

Admitting there are people who have stayed longer than him, he said his achievement couldn’t have been possible without the support of the staff.

Mr Eduaful lauded they are dedicated, and love what they do.

Mr Eduaful noted he was indeed a living testimony of Haggai 2: 9 which reads; The glory of this latter house shall be greater than the former.

Meet Asempa FM presenter who is a former footballer https://www.adomonline.com/meet-asempa-fm-presenter-who-is-a-former-footballer/ Wed, 02 Aug 2023 13:22:19 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2279481 Asempa FM sports presenter, Andy Kwaku Obeng, widely known as Myxtro, has revealed he was torn between the career choices of his family and personal preferences.

As someone who believed he was a footballer prodigy from childhood, he did not allow the influence of his family to completely sway him away from what he wanted to do.

With his parents more interested in him going to school, Myxtro had his mind set on other things which he was determined to pursue.

When the burning desire to stand on the field to play professionally did not succeed, he still found a way to contribute to the sports as a presenter and commentator.

Narrating his journey on Adom TV’s M’ashyase3, Myxtro revealed his greatness started as a footballer, an ability which earned him the admiration of many as early as 1999.

“It all started when I gained admission to St Joseph Training College in 1999 and there was a football match between the freshers and the school team. I was the star player and scored nine goals in the game.

“With the tactics and skilful play, the commentator conferred the name Myxtro on me and the only person I knew at the time with that name was Abele Pele so, to the commentator, I played like Abedi,” he recounted to Afia Amankwa.

Subsequently, Myxtro said he had the opportunity to captain the 2009 University of Cape Coast team for the All African Games in Uganda and also the captain for a team that represented Ghana universities at the World University Games in Serbia.

Fast forward, he secured a five-year contract with King Faisal and also played for some time at Kumasi Asante Kotoko through the help of Nimo Pharmacy who was then a board chairman of Kotoko.

During these periods of excellent play on the field, journalism found him and he had it quite easy since he had already done radio on Cape Coast-based ATL FM and Duayaw Nkwanta-based 90.1 FM.

According to her, but for God who revealed a vision to a pastor she visited ahead of the funeral, she would have been dead long ago while her sister rots in jail.

The This far hitmaker narrated her experience on Adom TV’s M’ashyase3, stating the deceased was not a relative but she needed to go for the sake of her elder sister.

“The man I was to marry at the time had a pastor friend who holds fellowships on Thursdays so he took me there and that was where the revelation came. He told me I would have been poisoned under a messy circumstance and eventually, my elder sister would have been accused of the crime.

“So the pastor prayed for me and instructed that I do not drink nor eat at the funeral which was on Saturday and I strictly complied. So I made sure I ate to my satisfaction on Saturday morning before I left for the funeral,” she narrated to Afia Amankwa Tamakloe.

Ewura Abena disclosed the experience inspired her first song, Agye me Nkwa in 2009 as a thanksgiving to God for sparing her life.

“I was in the bathhouse the next day and this song dropped into my spirit. I contacted Nacee and we put the song together and it inspired lives,” she said.

Media personality, Afia Asamani, has recounted how she defied the odds to succeed in life despite dropping out of school in class six.

Recounting her journey on Adom TV’s M’ashyase3, she disclosed she moved from Kumasi to Accra while in class five to stay with her sister and husband.

Upon arrival in Accra, she had to sell pure water to support her sister and husband, but the joy in her new home was cut short when her sister started to encounter problems in her marriage.

“I had to combine selling pure water with my studies in primary school but I had to quit school in class six when my sister and I relocated from her abode in Accra,” she told Afia Amankwaah Tamakloe.

Fast forward, journalism found Afia in 2012 after a one-year course at the All Stars Media College before completing a three-month internship at the now-defunct Prime FM.

“The company retained me because of hard work and humility but I worked for three years without pay before moving to Vision One FM with the help of the late Sekyere Poporo Boateng but that was short-lived because there were salary issues and he moved to Hot FM where he took me along and that was where I received my first salary of GH¢500 then,” she recounted.

Throwing more light on her successful career, Afia said she owes it all to James Asante, a lecturer at the Ghana Institute of Journalism (GIJ) who advised her to go back to school after they met at an assignment he moderated.

“Mr Asante told me all about the entrance exams after I revealed to him I was a school dropout. He paid for me to sit for the exams because I couldn’t afford it. I managed to pursue a diploma course, then a first degree and now have a masters,” she said happily.

Rev. Alexander Bruce-Ghartey, popularly known as Uncle Ato, has shared his experience of how he detested ‘our day’ while growing up as a little boy.

This, according to him, was because he was always worried about the food his parents will give to him compared to what other kids will bring.

Uncle Ato disclosed this on Adom TV M’ashyase3 with Afia Amankwa Tamakloe as he opened up on his difficult background and upbringing.

“As children, everyone was eager to see the food you will bring on our day but I always was worried because there was nothing,” he recounted.

As someone who was one of eight children whose father was a carpenter and whose mother had to engage in meagre jobs to support the family, the musician said they were trained in contentment.

“God’s blessing, however, brought about gari because it has really helped me a lot,” he said amidst laughter.

He, however, expressed appreciation to God that his background did not become a barrier to his upliftment and the greater person God wanted him to be in life.

Tiktok stars, ‘Demand and Supply’ share inspiring story [Video] https://www.adomonline.com/tiktok-stars-demand-and-supply-share-inspiring-story-video/ Thu, 08 Jun 2023 12:09:51 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2257943 The outbreak of global pandemic, Covid-19 brought the world to a standstill but the Tiktok app became a place of solace for millions of people.

Young Ghanaian Tiktokers, Demand, and Supply, born Justice Bempong and Clement Kumi respectively with a mobile phone and their humorous nature took the internet by storm.

After one discovered the app, the two decided to download it to watch videos with no intent of making videos.

“He discovered Tiktok and informed me that the new app was fun. We both only downloaded to watch videos. But one day he dreamt that we had become big stars through social media. That was when we decided to post videos individually on our pages to see who gets more views.

“I went to his place one day and after we made a video, it had gone viral the next day and people were asking us to do more.”

According to them, patrons loved their feminine props so they had to stick to that.

“It’s not our fault. After our video went viral, we wanted to switch to masculine but our followers said no. And we decided to stick to that.”

“It comes naturally. We don’t plan before shooting our videos. We just dress up, set up, and then the idea pops up. We don’t rehearse.”

The two have been friends since 2017 as they were both business students at the Ofoase Ayirebi Secondary School.

They entreated the youth to make good use of social media.

Kumi is currently a student at the Methodist College of Education and Bempong studies at the University of Education.

From sachet water distributer to broadcasting star: Israel Laryea’s incredible journey to success [watch] https://www.adomonline.com/from-sachet-water-distributer-to-broadcasting-star-israel-laryeas-incredible-journey-to-success-watch/ Thu, 25 May 2023 15:46:16 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2253333

Israel Laryea, one of Ghana’s prominent broadcast journalists, has opened up about the challenges he faced during his upbringing.

In an interview on Adom TV’s M’ashayse3 show, he candidly shared his journey.

“I used to walk from Labone to my school at Osu barefooted because my shoes were spoilt. Life was not all rosy while growing up,” Israel recalled, highlighting the difficulties he encountered.

Israel attributed the hardships to his father’s work-related challenges, which placed significant pressure on his mother.

The family’s financial situation became so dire that Israel could only attend secondary school through a scholarship programme. He gratefully acknowledged the opportunity it provided him.

During his younger years, Israel dreamt of becoming a pilot. However, his passion for journalism was ignited by the content he consumed from the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC).

He explained, “Growing up, I wanted to be a pilot, but considering the number of years of school required, I realised I had the potential to be a journalist. I was very proficient in English, and my fascination with the BBC further fueled my aspirations.”

To make ends meet, Israel resorted to distributing bags of sachet water alongside a family member.

It was a challenging period, but he persevered. In 1999, he secured a full-time job as an assistant producer, and after six months, he transitioned into an anchor role for TV3 and later joined Joy FM.

Born in Chorkor, Israel spent his formative years in Kumasi, Labone, and Osu.

Today, he serves as the Executive Head of Influencer Africa, and he takes pride in being a loving husband and a dedicated father to three children.

Reflecting on his journey, Israel Laryea’s story serves as an inspiration, showcasing resilience and determination in the face of adversity.

Those were the words of female carpenter, Dorcas Naa Koshie Yeboah.

Speaking on the M’ashyase3 show on Adom TV, she recounted that making a simple mistake got her moved from the company’s reception into doing manual work which involved climbing heights.

She indicated that she got unto her boss’ bad side when she got a client’s order wrong.

“I made a mistake with a client’s order, the person mentioned green and not knowing that there were different shades of green, I chose the wrong colour.

“My supervisor was so angry with me and said I made him lose money. We made customised roofing sheets so when you get an order wrong or a customer’s colour wrong, it can’t be given to another,” she said.

According to her, after her first and very bad experience at work, she wanted to quit but her mother encouraged her to be resilient.

With her hard work and distinctness among her co-workers, the company retained her.

“When the one year was up and I wanted to escape, I received an appointment letter. Out of the lot, only two of us myself and a male were given appointment letters for our good work ethics. Even other companies reached out to me.”

She mentioned that because she was a woman doing a male-dominant job, most clients prefered her to her male colleagues.

She is a native of James Town and the second of five children and an old student of O’Reilly Secondary School and Koforidua Technical University.

“We were in House 2 room 3 which was popularly known as a police station. In the third term of form 1, Richard announced the name one day with inspiration from King Moshosho of Lesotho.

“It wasn’t a name I was happy with but one thing I realised was that, in secondary school, the name you don’t like was what people would rather call you. So I just had to accept it in good faith and [I] have maintained it till now,” he recounted to Afia Amankwa Tamakloe.

Moshosho added that the name was not used just in school but people who also knew him outside school started to call him by it.

She revealed this on Adom TV’s M’ashyase3, stating it’s because she doesn’t get any monetary support from relevant stakeholders.

“I did the song due to my love for country, and sports and also to promote my brand. GNPC fully sponsors the team so I asked myself what I could also do and I composed the song and even though I wasn’t expecting anything from it, I believe a little proceed wouldn’t have hurt.

“Kudus and the new guys are not lucky but if they contract me, I will compose a remix for them,” she told Afia Amankwa Tamakloe.

Meanwhile, the musician who is recognised by many as the voice behind most football Jama songs said she was grateful to God for the insight to compose the song.

Renowned media personality turned Reverend Minister, Maame Yeboah Asiedu, has disclosed her call to do God’s work did not start recently.

According to her, it was a gift she was born with but had been ignoring all these years.

The leader and founder of the Asuboi-based Prayer City in the Eastern Region disclosed the pain did not go away despite the numerous hospitals and churches she visited not until she quit law school.
