Mahama directs new ministers to declare assets https://www.adomonline.com/mahama-directs-new-ministers-to-declare-assets/ Wed, 22 Jan 2025 17:11:12 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2495996 President John Mahama has directed all ministers in his administration to declare their assets as part of efforts to curb corruption.

Speaking at the swearing-in ceremony of the first six appointed ministers at the Jubilee House on Wednesday, January 22, the President emphasized the importance of transparency and accountability in governance.

“I expect all of you to begin the process of declaring your assets,” he instructed, adding that the Chief of Staff would soon announce a cut-off date by which all eligible appointees must submit their asset declaration forms to the Auditor-General.

President Mahama stressed that this measure is critical in preventing corruption and ensuring that public officials adhere to the highest standards of integrity.

He warned that it cannot be “business as usual” in his government and urged the ministers to embrace fairness and openness in all their dealings.

He also assured the public that anti-corruption institutions would be strengthened to investigate and address any breaches of the law by appointees.

The President reiterated his commitment to working with the newly sworn-in ministers, pledging to provide them with the support they need to serve Ghanaians effectively while upholding principles of good governance.

Prof. Oquaye is part of the problem, not the solution to NPP’s election loss – Former NPP MP [Video] https://www.adomonline.com/prof-oquaye-is-part-of-the-problem-not-the-solution-to-npps-election-loss-former-npp-mp-video/ Wed, 15 Jan 2025 17:23:34 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2493418 Former Member of Parliament for Subin constituency, Eugene Boakye, has expressed concern over the decision to appoint former Speaker of Parliament, Prof. Mike Oquaye, to lead the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) election review committee.

In an interview on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen show, Mr. Boakye questioned the rationale behind selecting Prof. Oquaye, suggesting that his involvement could be counterproductive.

“Prof. Oquaye is part of the problem, so why should he lead the team to investigate what caused the party’s defeat?”

Mr. Boakye’s remark follows the NPP’s decision to appoint Oquaye as the head of the 11-member committee tasked with reviewing the party’s loss in the 2024 general elections.

The committee, which has been given three months to complete its work, is expected to review the party’s internal elections, campaign strategies, and identify the challenges that led to the electoral defeat. Justin Frimpong Kodua, the party’s General Secretary, highlighted that the committee’s terms of reference also include proposing solutions.

However, Mr. Boakye believes that the issues that led to the party’s loss are already clear and that a committee is unnecessary.

“The issues are already there and glaring. So why do we need a committee to address them? They can be checked from our platforms.”

He also criticized the presence of Prof. Oquaye, noting that many within the party feel he is part of the problem and should not be tasked with finding the solution.

“People have raised concerns about the presence of Mike Oquaye. They believe he is part of the problem, and if that’s the case, how can he be part of the solution?” Boakye questioned.

Watch video below:

Furthermore, he said the NPP should follow a more transparent process, one that has been done in the past by former leaders like Mac Manu and John Boadu.

“Why not open the Secretariat to take submissions from party members? That’s what Mac Manu and John Boadu did, and it worked. So, why not this time?” Mr. Boakye asked.

Mr. Boakye also doubted the effectiveness of the committee, expressing that the recommendations it produces would likely be rejected.

“When the committee brings recommendations, they will be rejected. We can’t sit back and let someone else make decisions for us,” he added.

In his view, the party should focus on internal submissions and transparent discussions to address the issues, rather than relying on a committee led by someone who might not reflect the party’s current direction.

“They must open the Secretariat and deal with the issues directly,” he concluded.

President Akufo-Addo has delivered his final Christmas message to Ghanaians as his tenure as President nears its conclusion.

In a heartfelt televised address on Tuesday, December 24, the outgoing President extended warm holiday wishes and reflected on themes of gratitude, unity, and hope for the nation’s future.

“As we gather around our tables to share meals, let us think of those who make our celebrations possible—the security personnel standing guard so we may celebrate in safety, the health workers caring for the sick, the farmers, and fisherfolk whose labor feeds our families,” he said.

President Akufo-Addo urged Ghanaians to remember the less fortunate, expressing hope that their prayers and actions would bring comfort and renewal to those in need.

Reflecting on his presidency, he spoke of Ghana’s immense potential: “Having come to the end of my lawful tenure as President and preparing to step into the next chapter of my life, I leave you with this thought: Ghana is a nation destined for greatness. Let us protect her peace, cherish her unity, and nurture her promise.”

He emphasized the importance of hope and love as vital drivers of progress and urged citizens to work together to achieve extraordinary goals.

“May this Christmas season fill our hearts with joy, our homes with laughter, and our lives with blessings. May the coming year bring us closer to the Ghana of our dreams, and may God continue to bless our nation and its people abundantly,” he concluded.

“Merry Christmas, my fellow Ghanaians.”

Chaos erupted at the Electoral Commission’s (EC) Greater Accra Regional office on Saturday during the re-collation exercise.

The re-collation of the parliamentary seat for Tema Central, one of nine constituencies ordered by the High Court following disputes over initial results, was meant to address concerns.

However, the NDC Parliament Candidate for Tema Central, Ebi Bright her legal representative, Rockson-Nelson Dafeamekpor stormed out of the collation room angry over EC’s refusal to do an entire re-collation.

They disagreed with the decision.

They accused the EC of failing to comply with the court’s order to restart the process.

According to Dafeamekpor, the court’s ruling required the re-collation to begin afresh, but the EC, under the direction of Tema Metropolitan Director Manasseh Ofosuhene Asante, was resuming from where the previous process left off.

He argued that this approach was inconsistent with the court’s instructions and could compromise the integrity of the re-collation.

The NDC further demanded that the process be overseen by the designated Returning Officer for Tema Central rather than Ofosuhene Asante. They accused the Director of interference and bias, alleging that he was acting in favor of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

“We cannot be part of this process,” Dafeamekpor said. “The court said to start afresh, not to continue from where things were left off. The Returning Officer has the authority here, but Mr. Ofosuhene, who has no official role in this, has taken over and is dictating the process to suit his preferences. He is a corrupt man, and we know he has been in contact with NPP officials.”

The NDC’s representatives have vowed not to participate unless the EC adheres to the court’s directive and ensures a fair and lawful process. The walkout highlights ongoing tensions and mistrust surrounding the handling of the Tema Central re-collation exercise.

Men are 4 times more likely to die by suicide – Transformational coach [Video] https://www.adomonline.com/men-are-4-times-more-likely-to-die-by-suicide-transformational-coach-video/ Tue, 19 Nov 2024 14:17:24 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2473360

Transformational coach Scofray Nana Yaw Yeboah has shed light on the silent suffering of many men, stating that they are four times more likely to commit suicide.

According to him, many men go through a series of abuses, but society turns a blind eye and sees it as normal.

However, in an interview on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem, Scofray admonished that the abuse of men must be given priority, just as it is for women.

“Whenever a man speaks his truth, it is used against him. Men suffer 70% of non-reciprocal abuse and are four times more likely to commit suicide.

“We are going through a lot, but we always say that men deserve respect, not love. But it is about time we correct a lot of misconceptions to guide our lives and also save men in society,” he urged.

These words were shared in commemoration of the 2024 International Men’s Day under the theme Positive Male Role Models.

The theme highlights the importance of fostering open conversations about men’s mental health and creating supportive environments where men can thrive.

Watch Kwesi Appiah’s celebration after guiding Sudan to secure AFCON qualification https://www.adomonline.com/watch-kwesi-appiahs-celebration-after-guiding-sudan-to-secure-afcon-qualification/ Tue, 19 Nov 2024 13:04:11 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2473312 Ghanaian coach Kwesi Appiah was visibly emotional after leading Sudan to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

The Falcons of Jediane secured their spot in the tournament following a goalless draw against Angola in the final round on Monday, finishing second in Group F with 8 points, behind Angola, who topped the group.

Following the achievement, Appiah, alongside assistant coach Ignatius Osei-Fosu and goalkeeper coach Eric Amponsah, celebrated in the dressing room by dancing to King Paluta’s popular song ‘Aseda.’

Appiah, who was appointed earlier this year on a three-year contract, achieved this remarkable feat despite Sudan’s ongoing political turmoil, which forced the team to play all their matches away from home.

Sudan, whose only AFCON title came in 1970 when they hosted the tournament, has faced difficulties in the modern era. The team has reached the knockout stage only once and qualified for just three of the last 24 editions.

However, with Appiah now at the helm, Sudan is aiming to make a strong impact in the 2025 AFCON. This will mark Sudan’s first AFCON appearance since 2012.

How Martin Kpebu stormed live TV show with koko, bread, and koose [Watch] https://www.adomonline.com/how-martin-kpebu-stormed-live-tv-show-with-koko-bread-and-koose-watch/ Sat, 09 Nov 2024 18:26:19 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2470227 Legal practitioner Martin Kpebu has expressed concern over the dire state of Ghana’s economy, which he says is affecting every sector of society.

To highlight the cost-of-living crisis, Mr. Kpebu brought millet porridge, bread, and koose onto the set of TV3’s Key Points show on November 9, 2024, illustrating the soaring prices of basic food items.

Mr. Kpebu particularly disclosed the struggles of public sector workers, many of whom earn below GH¢3500 a month.

He explained that with such low wages, workers are finding it difficult to cope with the rising costs of food and other essentials.

“In the public service, many workers earn less than GH¢3500, and a large portion earns even less. For example, if you spend GH¢30 on lunch each day, that’s GH¢930 a month just for lunch, not even counting breakfast,” Kpebu said.

He further raised concerns about the impact of these high food prices on nutrition, stating that many people are becoming malnourished due to their inability to afford enough nutritious food.

“Food insecurity is becoming a real issue. My breakfast used to be a simple porridge, bread, and koose, but now that meal costs nearly GH¢20. And that’s just the morning meal, before lunch and dinner,” he added.

Mr. Kpebu pointed out that even the most basic food items, like his usual breakfast, have become unaffordable for many Ghanaians.

“My porridge is GH¢5, and with milk, it costs GH¢8. The koose is GH¢2 each, so the more you try to cut back on food, the more you risk becoming malnourished,” he lamented.

Show leadership; current parliamentary stand-off is embarrassing – Kufuor to Bagbin https://www.adomonline.com/show-leadership-current-parliamentary-stand-off-is-embarrassing-kufuor-to-bagbin/ Sat, 09 Nov 2024 09:16:49 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2470142 Former President of Ghana, John Agyekum Kufuor, has urged Speaker of Parliament Alban Sumana Bagbin to exercise strong leadership amid the ongoing stand-off in Parliament over majority seating arrangements.

Kufuor expressed disappointment over the situation, describing it as an “embarrassing” impasse that could tarnish Bagbin’s otherwise distinguished career.

The stand-off stems from the Supreme Court’s recent decision to stay Bagbin’s earlier ruling, which had declared four parliamentary seats vacant.

Members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) disagree with Bagbin’s ruling, while those of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) continue to support it.

Bagbin’s ruling effectively tilted the balance of power in the House in favor of the NDC, who now claim the majority of the parliamentarians.

Despite the Supreme Court’s decision, NDC MPs continue to assert their “newfound majority” status in the chamber, occupying seats previously reserved for the NPP majority.

In response, Members of Parliament from the NPP, led by their leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin, have refrained from entering the chamber, seeking to avoid potential physical confrontations.

Their absence has effectively stalled proceedings and highlighted the tense atmosphere surrounding the majority-minority debate.

Speaking in an interview with Asempa FM, Kufuor emphasized the importance of Speaker Bagbin’s role in resolving the impasse and urged him to prioritize stability and decorum in the House.

He warned that if left unchecked, the current situation could damage Bagbin’s reputation and undermine his contributions to Ghana’s political landscape.

“I will plead with the Speaker of Parliament to step up and show leadership. What’s happening in Parliament is embarrassing. It can destroy his illustrious record,” he said.

Speaking in an interview on Okukuseku with Emelia Brobbey, the actress expressed hope that a good man would come her way.

She insisted that she believes in prayer and that God would answer her prayers and grant her heart’s desires.

“Who doesn’t want marriage? Let’s be real. I wish I had three kids that I could drop off at Sunday school and also take to school. It is a beautiful thing, but I am positive that God will listen to my prayers,” she said.

Martha Ankomah also clarified the notion that acting is a difficult career and that most actresses in Ghana find it challenging to settle down.

“I don’t believe in the idea that as an actress you won’t get a husband. You know what they see is different from what those of us in the entertainment industry see. It depends on how you, the individual, carry yourself. Because there are a lot of creatives who have gotten married and are living happily,” she added.

Osebo draws ‘Roman soldier’ sword in ‘beef’ with Ajagurajah [Video] https://www.adomonline.com/osebo-draws-roman-soldier-sword-in-beef-with-ajagurajah-video/ Fri, 25 Oct 2024 07:46:14 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2464259 The fashion rivalry between Ghanaian socialite Osebo the Zaraman and the outspoken spiritual leader Ajagurajah (Kwabena Asiamah) has reached a thrilling new level, with Osebo dramatically raising a symbolic sword.

Wielding a blade that invoked the spirit of David, Osebo declared his intent to triumph over Ajagurajah in their escalating style battle.

The latest standoff was triggered by Ajagurajah’s outfit, which boldly matched the artwork in his home—a multicolored “towel” draped over his attire, perfectly coordinating with the colours of his house. With this fashion move, he threw down the gauntlet, daring Osebo to respond.

Unfazed by Ajagurajah’s prior warnings of “serious fashion repercussions,” Osebo hit back in spectacular form.

In his latest video, he appeared dressed as a warrior, adorned with a bronze helmet and red-feathered armour, making a powerful counter to Ajagurajah’s challenge.

This marks the start of a renewed fashion feud, following Osebo’s earlier victory, when Ajagurajah conceded defeat after being outdone.

Their revival of the 2023 showdown—where Osebo’s audacity won out over Ajagurajah’s creativity—has once again captivated social media. Fans are enjoying the lighthearted exchange and the dynamic outfits, each supporting their favourite in this latest stylish face-off.

The boy, affectionately known as Chief Justice, had performed a traditional dance holding a red Asafo flag inscribed with “Akwaaba Otumfuo” to greet the Asantehene.

In a heartwarming gesture, Otumfuo invited the boy to sit closer to him.

However, when the boy needed to visit the washroom, he unexpectedly asked the Asantehene to hold his flag until he returned.

In a brief conversation, the boy handed the flag to Otumfuo and left. The other chiefs present burst into laughter at the boy’s boldness, but Otumfuo, with a smile, graciously held onto the flag.

One of the chiefs offered to take the flag from Otumfuo, but the king declined, choosing to keep it until the boy returned and reclaimed it.

This endearing exchange between the young boy and the Asantehene captured the attention of many, highlighting the warmth and humility of the king during his visit.

“I’ve said it before, and I stand by it: when it comes to the gospel industry in Ghana, Esther Smith is the Greatest of All Time (GOAT). This is a title you should wear with pride because you’ve truly earned it,” O.B. declared during the interview.

He further highlighted Esther Smith’s impressive discography, noting her nine albums, with nearly every song from each album becoming a hit.

“You have nine albums, and almost every song on each of those albums has been a hit. This is a crown you should proudly wear,” he added.

In response, Esther Smith took a humble approach, expressing that she prefers to focus on the impact of her music rather than titles.

“I try to remain modest about such accolades because they can sometimes lead to jealousy. What’s important to me is that my songs touch hearts and inspire people. That’s my priority,” she said.

O.B. defended his praise, affirming that Esther Smith has earned the recognition through her hard work.

“When someone has put in the work, they deserve to be celebrated. Esther Smith, you’ve worked diligently, and there’s a substantial body of evidence to support this. You deserve all the accolades you receive,” he said.

With a career spanning over two decades, Esther Smith has significantly influenced the Ghanaian gospel music scene with her powerful vocals and inspiring lyrics. Her music has garnered numerous awards and accolades both locally and internationally.

Esther Smith is set to hold a concert at the Perez Dome on Friday at 5 p.m. She has assured fans that she is ready to deliver an unforgettable performance in Accra and has encouraged them to come out and support her.

“I’m ready to give it my all and uplift the spirits of everyone present,” she promised.

The concert is expected to be a night of worship, praise, and inspiration, featuring Esther Smith’s powerful voice and captivating stage presence.

Tickets are available at various prices: GH₵50 for single tickets, GH₵90 for double tickets, and GH₵150 for VIP tickets.

Don’t reject our gold, Bawumia – BOST MD tells Ghanaians [Video] https://www.adomonline.com/dont-reject-our-gold-bawumia-bost-md-tells-ghanaians-listen/ Wed, 28 Aug 2024 14:27:22 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2440402 Managing Director of the Bulk Oil Storage and Transportation Company Limited (BOST), Dr. Edwin Alfred Provencal, has said it is important that Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia is voted into power in the upcoming elections.

According to him, if Ghanaians fail to vote for Dr. Bawumia, the country will retrogress.

“Let’s not look at the current situation and reject our gold, Dr. Bawumia. We are all aware there is suffering, but we should not focus on that and reject such a valuable leader. We are on a journey, so let’s give those in charge the time to do the job” he said.

He made this known in an interview on Adom FM’s morning show Dwaso Nsem Wednesday.

Dr. Provencal said based on his conversations with Dr. Bawumia, the Vice President has a clear and transformative vision for Ghana.

Edwin Alfred Provencal ,Managing Director of the Bulk Oil Storage and Transportation Limited Company (BOST)

He credited Dr. Bawumia’s efforts in digitalization, noting the significant changes it has brought to the country.

Dr. Provencal expressed confidence that Dr. Bawumia and the New Patriotic Party (NPP) could “break the 8” in the December elections.

“When the NPP promises, they deliver, as we’ve seen with initiatives like Free SHS and Agenda 111. This is evident, unlike the NDC, who promise and fail.”

He concluded by stressing the critical nature of the upcoming elections.

“If we want this country to grow, it would be a travesty not to bring Bawumia to the presidency. The future of Ghana depends on ensuring we make the right decision and vote for Dr. Bawumia” he added.

‘This Abled’: Friendship without bounds https://www.adomonline.com/this-abled-friendship-without-bounds/ Thu, 22 Aug 2024 20:20:07 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2437631 Felicity Wedava Ajure, a 21-year-old first-year student of the University of Ghana.

Usually repairs her bicycle by herself to safe cost and reduce the inconvenience associated with visiting the repair shops. Her bicycle is more than just a mode of transportation; it symbolises her independence and her commitment to helping others living with disabilities.

Although she suffers with a disability called achondroplasia, Felicity believes she is unique and special in many ways.

Felicity

Felicity moves her hands with dexterity as she applies a cold patch to her bicycle tyre, a skill she learned in order to save money and avoid the hassle of repair shops.

Her bicycle is a lifeline, not just for herself but for her friend, Esther Boadu, who is visually impaired.

“I normally fix it by using a cold patch and solution because my mum and dad always advise me to learn how to use those things to repair my bike instead of sending it to the market for repairs. Sending it to the market for repairs is always a difficult task, and they have to spend a huge amount of money.

“So I repair it myself rather than send it to the market for repairs. It is a way and means of saving money. I will use it for other purposes instead of using it to repair my bike when I have the items for repair,” she said.

Felicity and Esther’s friendship began one Monday morning during a lecture. It was not until after the lecture that Felicity discovered Esther’s visual impairment.

It begun when Esther asked Felicity to assist her get around.

Felicity recounts when Esther sought help “I asked her, ‘How can this be because I know you can actually see? Why are you pretending not to see?’ She was like she’s visually impaired and can’t see, so I decided to help her.”

And so began a friendship. Every day, Felicity and Esther navigate the sprawling campus together.

As Felicity rides, Esther holds her shoulder, guiding her friend to their lecture halls.

They admit that the typology of the campus was not very favourable since they have to climb several stairs before getting to their lecture halls, sometimes jump over gutters but since they were friends they often helped each other navigate the premises

Their bond extends beyond the classroom. They study, cook and share laughter during their leisure times.

Felicity’s heart is filled with compassion, not just for Esther, but for others living with various forms of disability. She finds joy in assisting her friends, despite the challenges they face.

“Other people see their visual impairment as contagious. They think that by coming into contact with them, they will be infected, so I decided to be friends with her to give her a helping hand,” she said.

Their friendship is reciprocal. Esther helps Felicity with tasks like washing dishes and provides academic support, explaining difficult concepts during their study sessions.

The two friends appear to be inseparable. Whether it is attending lectures, cooking, or simply enjoying each other’s company, their bond is unbreakable.

Esther

Felicity said “Whenever I feel sad, she normally entertains me, and I do the same for her.”

Esther, also, cherishes their friendship, finding strength and comfort in their daily interactions.

“It has been fantastic…I really like our friendship,” she said.

Their shared moments of joy and mutual support paint a beautiful picture of what friendship truly means.

Felicity dreams of becoming a journalist, using her voice to advocate for others with disabilities.

“I want to be a journalist. I’ve never seen people like me giving news before. I want to use the power of the microphone to advocate for people living with disabilities,” she said.

Esther is however hopeful that the world would come to know friendship is possible even for people with disability.

“We want the whole world to know of our friendship, a visually impaired and a person living with achondroplasia being besties,” she said.

Despite the challenges, Felicity and Esther are determined to succeed in their academic pursuit and hope their friendship will inspire others as well as highlight the need for better support for students with disabilities.

PAC orders arrest of a headteacher in Kintampo [Video] https://www.adomonline.com/pac-orders-arrest-of-a-headteacher-in-kintampo-video/ Tue, 20 Aug 2024 15:28:32 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2436425 The Public Accounts Committee has ordered the arrest and prosecution of Comfort Appiah, a Headteacher in the Kintampo South District  of the Bono East region.

The Chairman of the Committee, James Klutse Avedzi, has directed that the Attorney General lead the prosecution of Comfort Appiah.

Mrs. Appiah’s spouse, Bismark Agyekum, who is also a headteacher, vacated his post and traveled abroad, taking with him the code required for the validation of teachers’ salaries.

While abroad, Mr. Agyekum continued to validate salaries and transferred the funds into a different account.

The funds were then appropriated by Comfort Appiah, leading the Committee to conclude that this constituted collusion to receive unearned money.

In related news, the Ghana Education Service (GES) has announced that teachers who have been wrongly placed will be reposted.

This decision comes in response to concerns raised by Samuel Nartey George and Nelson Dafeamekpor, members of the Public Accounts Committee, about language-specific teachers being posted to regions where their specialized languages are not taught.

We will not sacrifice power for peace – NPP’s Salam Mustapha [Video] https://www.adomonline.com/we-will-not-sacrifice-power-for-peace-npps-salam-mustapha/ Sat, 17 Aug 2024 12:38:17 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2435205 The National Youth Organizer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Salam Mustapha, has made a bold statement about the party’s approach to power and peace in the upcoming December elections.

Speaking at a mini rally in Takoradi on Saturday, August 17, ahead of the party’s manifesto launch on Sunday, August 18, Mustapha said while the NPP highly values peace, they are not prepared to surrender power simply to preserve it.

He also declared that the NPP has strong individuals capable of standing up to the NDC, challenging the opposition to take whatever actions they deem necessary before, during, or after the December polls.

“I’m also telling them that the NPP will not sacrifice power on the altar of peace, we will not do it. We will not submit, we will not be cowed, prevented, or pushed.

“Look at my muscles, these muscles are natural, my muscles are full of bones. If the NDC believe they are stronger than us, they should dare in this election and they will see that we have the men.

“We’re for peace, we like peace, we’re for the progress of the country. But we will not be pushed out by any form of tactics. Ghanaians will make their choice and vote for the NPP.”

Chaos as Minority attempts to stop vetting of 2 Supreme Court nominees [Video] https://www.adomonline.com/chaos-as-minority-attempts-to-stop-vetting-of-2-supreme-court-nominees-video/ Tue, 13 Aug 2024 13:35:18 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2433189 Chaos erupted at the Appointments Committee of Parliament when the Minority sought to halt the vetting of two nominees selected by President Akufo-Addo for the Supreme Court.

Justice Sophia Bernasko Essah and Professor Richard Frimpong Oppong were scheduled to appear before the Committee on August 13 to discuss their qualifications for the Supreme Court.

Before the vetting could commence, concerns about the constitutionality of the appointments were raised.

Mahama Ayariga, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Member of Parliament for Bawku Central, argued that the nominations were unconstitutional.

“I believe we have been engaged in an illegal and unconstitutional practice. The President has been exercising powers without any constitutional or legal basis that I am aware of. I want to formally object to these nominations on the grounds that they are unconstitutional and have this objection recorded,” Ayariga stated.

“It flies in the face of Article 128 of the Constitution, and it is not founded in Article 144 of the Constitution. It offends the discretionary power provisions of Article 296. It doesn’t satisfy the Parliament’s powers to fill in voids under Article 298 of the constitution.

“I don’t know if you want to continue with this exercise, but to tell you the truth, we’ve been doing the wrong thing,” he said.

In response, the Majority Leader in Parliament, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, addressed the concerns raised by the NDC MP.

He emphasised that the role of the Appointments Committee is solely to consider and vet the nominations made by the President.

“We are only to vet and report to the preliminary for a decision to be taken. We are not determining whether we are going to take a matter under a certificate of agency which will be determined by a committee. No, this is vetting. Madam Chair, I am ready for her to start,” he said.

December Election: I have never said that – Bryan Acheampong clarifies controversial remarks [video] https://www.adomonline.com/december-election-i-have-never-said-that-bryan-acheampong-clarifies-controversial-remarks-listen/ Mon, 12 Aug 2024 18:20:53 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2432848 Minister of Food and Agriculture, Bryan Acheampong, has clarified his recent comments about the December 2024 elections.

Speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen programme Monday, the MP for Abetifi constituency explained that his statement about the New Patriotic Party (NPP) winning the election “by all means necessary” was misquoted.

Mr. Acheampong said his remarks were not intended to incite violence.

“I never said what they are accusing me of. I was simply stressing that, as a political party, our aim is to win the election, and we are doing everything possible to achieve that” he state.

He further explained that his confidence in the NPP’s victory stems from the government’s performance and the party’s strong support base.

“We have a natural core support base, and the government’s performance speaks for itself. The NDC is trying to disgrace the NPP to gain votes, but we are confident that we will win,” he said.

Mr. Acheampong reiterated that his comments were focused on the party’s efforts to secure a win through legitimate means, based on their track record, and not on any unlawful actions.

“When I said the NPP will win, I meant it because I know how hard the government has worked. My statement was not meant to be taken in a negative way,” he concluded.

You are a candidate for jail – Sammy Gyamfi tells Attorney General [Video] https://www.adomonline.com/you-are-a-candidate-for-jail-sammy-gyamfi-tells-attorney-general-audio/ Fri, 09 Aug 2024 10:43:34 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2431451 The Communications Officer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Sammy Gyamfi, has stated that his party is fully prepared to face the Office of the Attorney General.

His comments come in response to the Attorney General’s decision to appeal the Court of Appeal’s ruling, which acquitted and discharged Minority Leader Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson and Richard Jakpa in the ambulance case.

In a Notice of Appeal filed on August 8, 2024, the Attorney General’s office argued that the majority decision misapplied the standard of proof necessary to determine whether the accused should be required to answer the charges.

The appeal also challenges the majority’s finding that the letters of credit did not constitute a payment under the contract, stating that this conclusion contradicts the evidence presented in the case and is untenable.

The Attorney General’s office is seeking to have the Supreme Court overturn the acquittal and discharge, arguing that the case should proceed with the accused continuing to defend themselves.

Reacting to the development in an interview on Adom FM’s morning show Dwaso Nsem, Friday, Mr. Gyamfi expressed his displeasure in the Attorney General, Godfred Yeboah Dame.

“Godfred Dame is just a candidate for jail as far as his actions are concerned. We are more than ready for you. We know the agenda, but it won’t succeed. No one can say anything different from what the Court of Appeal has done. We know what Dame and Akufo-Addo are doing” he claimed.

In his view, Mr. Dame engaged in unprofessional conduct.

“It has disgraced you, and you are a candidate for jail because you have engaged in unprofessional conduct. Ato Forson has done nothing wrong because he is free. Dame is disgraced and is now running to appeal the decision” he stated.

How Ibrahim Mahama was received at the Liberia Airport [Video] https://www.adomonline.com/how-ibrahim-mahama-was-received-at-the-liberia-airport-video/ Mon, 22 Jul 2024 13:39:24 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2424369

Over the weekend, renowned entrepreneur and philanthropist Ibrahim Mahama donated 20 Police vehicles and three 1,200 KVA electricity generators to Liberia Airport Authority.

This contribution aims to enhance the operational efficiency and security at Roberts International Airport, Liberia’s main international gateway.

The high-capacity generators will ensure a reliable power supply, which is crucial for airport operations.

Ibrahim Mahama accompanied by business mogul, Sir Sam Jonah was received at the airport in Monrovia by the President of Liberia, Joseph Boakai, and Vice President Jeremiah Koung.

The delegation proceeded to the area where the Police vehicles and generators were parked and officially handed them over to the Liberian authorities in a brief ceremony.

President Joseph Boakai remarked, “This donation will greatly enhance our airport’s capabilities, ensuring the safety and comfort of travelers and boosting our overall infrastructure.”

Vice President Koung praised the donation, emphasizing the strong bond between Ghana and Liberia.

“Mr. Ibrahim Mahama’s generosity reflects the enduring friendship between our nations. We are immensely grateful for his support and dedication to Liberia’s progress,”Koung stated.

In his remarks, Ibrahim Mahama reaffirmed his commitment to supporting infrastructure and development projects that benefit local communities.

“I am honoured to contribute to Liberia’s growth. Robust infrastructure is vital for any thriving economy, and I believe these vehicles and generators will play a key role in enhancing the airport’s operations,” Mahama said.

This, he explained, is because Mr. Mahama rarely mentions Atta Mills’ name during his campaign.

“Atta Mills’ ghost will never let Mahama become President again. You see, that is why he never mentions his name during his campaign,” Odike said in an interview on Adom FM’s morning show Dwaso Nsem, Wednesday.

Former President Mahama, flagbearer of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), faces his main opponent, Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, in the  December elections.

Both presidential candidates from the Northern region will be competing for electoral supremacy in the five northern regions and the Zongo communities which have traditionally supported the NDC since the inception of the Fourth Republic in 1992.

However, the support for the NDC has decreased since the emergence of Dr. Bawumia in the political arena.

Interestingly, both candidates come from regions that were carved out of the Northern Region. Dr. Bawumia is from the North East, while Mahama hails from the Savannah Region.

He also expressed a personal desire to pray for former US President Donald Trump’s re-election, despite receiving requests from Biden’s team to support their campaign.

According to Auntie Pinamang, she is at her wits end thus chose to share her ordeal on air.

The distraught wife of the celebrated gospel musician claimed she cared for her husband at Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH), but circumstances led to a change in her role.

According to her, the ‘Wo Haw Ne Sen’ hitmaker opted to seek treatment at a prayer camp – a decision she vehemently opposed.

Later, when she visited him, she was surprised to find a member of her husband’s band, Maame Tiwaa attending to him, which upset her.

In an interview on Kumasi-Oyerepa FM, she claimed Yaw Sarpong’s family had prevented her from caring for him.

“I have been with my husband for 40 years. When his illness began, I was the one caring for him at Komfo Anokye Hospital. At one point, he asked me to stay home and pray for him because his sister would take him to a pastor for treatment and I was not happy about this. When I visited him after four days, I found Maame Tiwaa taking care of him, which was very upsetting. His sisters, especially one abroad, accused me of misusing his funds. Whenever I visit, his sisters will prevent me from seeing him,” she bemoaned.

Madam Pinamang is seeking help for an amicable solution to the problem.

Prior to Yaw Sarpong’s manager’s confirmation of his illness, gospel singers Diana Asamoah and Maame Tiwaa had already informed the public.

Vice President Dr. Bawumia contributed GH¢100,000 to aid Yaw Sarpong’s medical care.

The third accused in the ongoing ambulance purchase trial, Richard Jakpa, spent two days this week (June 18 and 20) in the witness box, answering questions from the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP), Yvonne Attakorah Obuobisa.

After his testimony on June 20 at the Accra High Court, Jakpa faced another set of challenges outside the courtroom.

GHOne TV shared a video showing Jakpa in the court complex car park, where he was confronted by a group of sympathizers demanding money from him.

In the video, as Jakpa tried to move his Toyota Land Cruiser, he is heard pleading for understanding, stating that he was already burdened with the costly fight for his freedom.

“I am fighting for my liberty, you people too want to make money from me again, habba,” he said as one of the sympathizers pressed for monetary assistance. Don’t you understand what I am saying? I am fighting for my liberty. It is expensive, now you people too want to make money from me again?” he reiterated.

In the video, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, an aide to former President John Dramani Mahama, joined Jakpa in his car as they drove out of the premises.

Jakpa is on trial alongside former Deputy Finance Minister, Cassiel Ato Forson, in connection with the purchase of ambulances.

Both men have pleaded not guilty to charges of willfully causing financial loss to the state, amounting to over 2.7 million euros.

Veteran broadcaster, Kwaku Sintim-Misa (KSM) has raised concerns over the silence of Ghanaians regarding the actions of the Akufo-Addo government.

Speaking in the latest episode of his TalkShop programme, KSM said during former President John Dramani Mahama’s tenure, prominent Ghanaians and various agencies were vocal in their criticism, yet there seems to be a stark contrast today.

“Every one of you listening to me, we experienced the reign of John Mahama and I tell you, during the reign of John Mahama, that is when we saw citizens, not spectators… You’re my witness, under Mahama, we spoke,” KSM said. He recalled the outspoken nature of individuals like his friend Prof Martey, the Moderator of the Presbyterian Church, who famously questioned, “where are the wise men in this country?” in a call for intelligent and brave voices to speak up.

KSM said Mahama faced severe criticism, with his administration being synonymous with the term ‘dumsor’, a reference to the frequent power outages.

“During Mahama’s era, ‘dumsor’ was made to be something that is synonymous with his name. If you meet someone, you greet the person, ‘yɛ ma wo dumsor oo’ and the person would respond, ‘yaa Mahama’.”

KSM noted that, if Mahama had engaged in some of the actions attributed to the current government, the public outcry would have been relentless.

He used the example of an alleged purchase of a chair that travels alone in a V8 vehicle with the President to buttress his point.

“I can imagine, and all of you bear me witness, what would Ghanaians have said if Mahama had purchased a chair and that one chair would travel alone in a V8 wherever Mahama was going. What would we have said? We would have bashed Mahama and bashed and bashed and bashed, you’re my witness.”

KSM expressed his bewilderment at the current silence, contrasting it with the vocal dissent during Mahama’s time,.

“But now that we are in the era of Nana Addo and it is happening, ‘koom yɛ’ – everyone is quiet.”

AG snubs judge’s advice, vows to prosecute ambulance case himself https://www.adomonline.com/ag-snubs-judges-advice-vows-to-prosecute-ambulance-case-himself/ Thu, 06 Jun 2024 18:27:38 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2405701

The Attorney General (AG), Godfred Yeboah Dame says he will not recuse himself from the ongoing ambulance procurement case in which the Minority Leader, Dr Cassiel Ato Forson and a businessman are standing trial for allegedly causing financial loss of €2.37 million to the state.

This is despite the advice of the High Court Judge, Justice Afia Serwah Asare-Botwe, who is presiding over the case.

During her ruling on four applications filed by the Minority Leader and the third accused, Richard Jakpa, Justice Asare-Botwe explained the AG’s decision to step aside would ensure that the judicial process was protected.

She further explained that it will also help to gain public confidence and not give a perception that cases can be held at any other place except the courtroom.

But addressing the media after the proceedings, Godfred Dame said he has decided to proceed with the case.

“The Judge after the ruling clarified that she has not given such order at all and that it was only an advice. I’m conducting the matter, I’m still conducting the trial,” he said.

The Attorney General also expressed satisfaction with the verdict given by the judge.

“The most important thing today is that all the applications filed by applicants have been dismissed. All the five applications have failed and in reaction to this, I will say that this clearly shows that a group of people in this country who ride on manipulations of facts, distortions and deceptions are seeking to mislead the public.

“Today, they have been exposed,” he added.

How I managed to gain strength after my ex-wife’s DNA revelation – Odartey Lamptey reveals [Watch] https://www.adomonline.com/how-i-managed-to-gain-strength-after-my-ex-wifes-dna-revelation-odartey-lamptey-reveals-watch/ Wed, 05 Jun 2024 12:05:03 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2404872 Former Black Stars forward, Nii Odartey Lamptey, has opened up about his tumultuous experience upon discovering that the three children he had raised with his ex-wife were not his.

Mr. Lamptey and Gloria Appiah separated in 2013 after DNA tests revealed the truth, leading to the dissolution of their 20-year marriage and a legal battle over compensation.

Madam Gloria sought Mr. Lamptey’s seven-bedroom house in East Legon as part of her alimony, but the Appeal Court rejected her claim.

Instead, the Accra High Court ordered her to vacate the property and awarded her Lamptey’s four-bedroom house in Dome, a car, and 200,000 Ghana cedis.

Reflecting on his initial reaction to the DNA results, Mr. Lamptey recounted a moment of intense turmoil.

In an interview with Dan Kwaku Yeboah TV, he revealed, “Yes, I considered using the gun, but God spoke to me, and I have not touched it since. It was in my Tundra, but I chose not to do anything.”

Mr. Lamptey acknowledged feeling devastated but credited patience for his current state.

“I believe it was divine intervention that stopped me from using the gun. I had to control my anger, or I could have ended up in prison. And I wouldn’t have my three children now. Sometimes, when you’re angry, you have to think twice before acting.

After all the troubles, there was light at the end of the tunnel. Mr. Lamptey found love again and has remarried.

He is now happily married to actress, Ruweida Yakubu, with whom he has three beautiful children.

That hole will become a building one day – Prophet Amoako Attah on completion of National Cathedral [Watch] https://www.adomonline.com/that-hole-will-become-a-building-one-day-prophet-amoako-attah-on-completion-of-national-cathedral-watch/ Wed, 05 Jun 2024 08:48:21 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2404797 A top clergyman has called on Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia to take the lead in ensuring the completion of the controversial National Cathedral project.

Prophet Amoako Attah, founder of the Lord’s Parliament Chapel International, urged Dr. Bawumia, who is also the flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), to champion the project.

He made this known when the NPP flagbearer met some clergymen in the Greater Accra Region as part of his campaign tour.

Prophet Amoako Attah is certain God wants Dr. Bawumia to complete the project

“Maybe prophetically, the reason that hole is there, is that maybe, God wants you to fulfill (completion of Cathedral)” he stated.

The man of God drew parallels with historical examples, mentioning how King Herod, although not a Jew, built temples for the Jewish people in Israel.

“It is going to be prophetic that once upon a time a temple was built, and the president who dedicated the temple for the Christians was a Muslim,” he added, tasking Bawumia to engage the private sector to complete the stalled project.

Dr. Bawumia, addressing the project underscored the need for a collaboration between the government and the church.

“The question on the National Cathedral is a very important one. I have contributed to it personally and I believe it is a very important thing for Ghana but I think as it stands now, the church has to come together with the government and let us sit down and talk about the way forward for the National Cathedral” he said.

He stressed the need for collective effort, stating, “The church should come together and let’s know the best way forward, how we can even get private resources to help us complete the Cathedral.”

Ghanaian actor, Kwaku Manu has shared the story of how he narrowly escaped a fatal accident.

Mr. Manu considers himself fortunate after a car, which had lost control and was speeding, suddenly veered off the road and crashed into a bush.

He explained that, the driver of the vehicle told him the steering rack had detached while he was driving, rendering the car impossible to control.

In a video posted by Express GH TV, Kwaku Manu said he was unharmed, as his vehicle was not affected by the accident.

He recounted, “When I got to the scene of the accident, the driver had already left the vehicle, so I went up to him and asked a few questions. I couldn’t film a video because of how serious the situation was. He mentioned that the steering rack had detached while he was driving… anyone could face such challenges.”

The popular actor continued, “I was very close to colliding with him, so if he had steered towards me, there could have been a collision. It’s possible that the driver knew about the issue with the steering rack but decided to drive anyway, which could have been fatal for me. But I’m not going to die anytime soon.”

This was after actor, Kwadwo Nkansah, also known as LilWin was involved in a tragic accident which resulted in the death of a 3-year-old boy named Tawiah Ampomah.

One-week-old baby reportedly stolen from district hospital in Upper East region [Video] https://www.adomonline.com/one-week-old-baby-reportedly-stolen-from-district-hospital-in-upper-west-region-video/ Mon, 03 Jun 2024 04:28:27 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2403573 A shocking incident at Zebilla District Hospital in the Bawku West district of the Upper East Region saw a one-week-old baby allegedly stolen on Saturday.

The infant, born to Felicia Dery, was taken under alarming circumstances, highlighting critical lapses in hospital security protocols.

Zangina Grace, a midwife on duty, narrated the sequence of events to Adom News.

According to her, the baby’s mother gave birth on May 25, 2024, at the hospital.

On Saturday evening, the mother, having befriended a stranger posing as a patient’s relative, entrusted her baby to the stranger while she took a bath. It was later discovered that this imposter had a male accomplice.

“When she returned, the man and the lady were not to be found. They left with the baby. So it has been very sad,” stated Grace.

She emphasized the oddity of the situation, noting the misplaced trust. “A mother who came to deliver through a C-section met some strange people who befriended her. She left her baby with them to go and have her bath, and when she returned, they had disappeared.”

Grace further lamented the hospital’s lack of adequate security measures.

She revealed that the absence of CCTV cameras and proper fencing made it easier for such incidents to occur unnoticed.

Meanwhile, the midwife also advised stricter visitor regulations, suggesting that adhering to visiting hours and limiting visitors could prevent similar incidents in the future.

The baby’s father also spoke to Adom News, providing additional details on how the culprits were identified and apprehended.

“She left her ID cards, and that was how we were able to identify her. They circulated it, and that was how they caught her. I wanted to see her, but the police didn’t allow me to enter the station,” he explained.

Nonetheless, Dr. Ayobi Abdul-Rahaman, the Medical Superintendent of Zebilla District Hospital, confirmed the incident, stating that the police were immediately notified and have since apprehended the suspects along with the baby, who has been safely recovered.

“We had an unforeseen incident where someone was able to outwit a mother and steal her baby. During visiting hours, she gained the mother’s trust, who gave her baby to take her bath. When she returned, the baby was gone. Through timely community intervention, we have apprehended the suspect, and the baby is safe in our custody. The suspect has since been arrested by the police,” Dr. Abdul-Rahaman stated.

Dumsor interrupts Ursula Owusu-Ekuful mid-speech during press conference https://www.adomonline.com/dumsor-interrupts-ursula-owusu-ekuful-mid-speech-during-press-conference/ Thu, 30 May 2024 13:50:54 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2402349 Communications and Digitalisation Minister Ursula Owusu-Ekuful was in the middle of an address to the press when the unexpected happened.

The agenda was mostly to throw light on the new initiative that she says aims to deliver affordable 5G mobile broadband services across Ghana.

The Ministry would also subsequently respond to suspicions regarding how the company awarded the 5G network rollout contract was established just one week before receiving the contract.

At the event on Thursday, May 30, Mrs Owusu-Ekuful explained that the company was specifically created for this purpose because there was no existing neutral infrastructure company capable of handling the rollout at that time.

She said the new special purpose vehicle, Next-Gen InfraCo (NGIC) was a collaboration between government and Ascend Digital, K-NET, Radisys, Nokia, and Tech Mahindra, supported by All Mobile Network Operators in Ghana, starting with AT and Telecel.

But while she was explaining the rationale behind the new partnership, the electricity went off.

Lights, microphones, and speakers were all cut off, plunging the Information Ministry’s conference room into darkness.

The outage lasted for about five minutes.

After the power was restored, the Minister apologised for the hitch and continued with her address.

The unstable nature of the power supply over the past few months has been a matter of concern for many Ghanaians.

Some celebrities, including actress Yvonne Nelson, have planned a demonstration against the situation, which has left residents and businesses in a terrible predicament.”

On April 18, 2024, a group calling itself ‘Youth for Asanteman’ staged a demonstration in Kumasi to demand a load-shedding timetable amid recent unannounced power cuts.

Clad in red and black, the protesters prevailed on the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) and the Energy Ministry to ensure stable power supply.

The protest was staged after President Akufo-Addo commissioned the Kumasi 1 Thermal Power Plant aimed at improving access to power.

NDC drops bombshell audio in ambulance purchase trial [Listen] https://www.adomonline.com/ndc-drops-bombshell-audio-in-ambulance-purchase-trial-listen/ Tue, 28 May 2024 21:08:04 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2401345 The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has released an audio recording that allegedly captures a conversation between Attorney General Godfred Dame and Richard Jakpa, the third accused in the controversial ambulance purchase trial.

This move follows Jakpa’s claims in court that the Attorney General had repeatedly approached him to build a case against former Deputy Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, the trial’s primary accused.

In a dramatic courtroom revelation on May 23, 2024, Jakpa asserted that the Attorney General had contacted him at odd hours, pressuring him to incriminate Dr. Forson.

He warned that he could expose more secrets if the Attorney General continued to accuse him of defending Dr. Forson instead of focusing on his own defense.

Mr. Jakpa’s allegations have given a new twist to the already high-profile case.

The Attorney General’s office, through Deputy Attorney-General Alfred Tuah Yeboah, swiftly dismissed Jakpa’s claims.

The office clarified that, it was Jakpa who had repeatedly sought to engage in plea bargaining, which the Attorney General had not accepted.

The dismissal aimed to counter Jakpa’s narrative and maintain the office’s stance in the legal proceedings.

During a press conference on May 28, the NDC played a 16-minute audio tape that purportedly features the voices of Godfred Dame and Richard Jakpa.

Listen to it below:

Ambulance case: Get medical excuse duty to delay the case, so I can travel – Dame allegedly tells Jakpa [Watch] https://www.adomonline.com/ambulance-case-get-medical-excuse-duty-to-delay-the-case-so-i-can-travel-dame-allegedly-tells-jakpa-watch/ Tue, 28 May 2024 19:33:33 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2401311 In a new development in the ongoing ambulance case, a secretly recorded audio tape has surfaced allegedly featuring Attorney General Godfred Dame instructing Richard Jakpa, the third accused, to obtain an excuse duty so as to delay proceedings.

In the recording, Mr Dame allegedly advises Mr Jakpa to use the delay to facilitate his travel plans.

The tape, which has been circulating widely since the opposition National Democratic Congress made same public, captures a voice alleged to be Mr Dame suggesting that Jakpa manipulate the court’s schedule to his advantage.

“And then, even next week, the whole of next week, I’ll not be around. Yes, I will be off. If you finish next week, I would appreciate it,” suggested the voice, to which Jakpa retorted: “Oh, no, no. I’ll not finish next week. I don’t think I’ll be able to finish because the documents are many. So, you will surely go and come and meet me. But that will also depend upon the judge’s behaviour.”

The voice purported to be Dame’s come in again and suggested: “You can bring one of the medical experts next week.”

This revelation has added a new layer of controversy to the case.

Dr. Ato Forson, a former Deputy Finance Minister and current Minority Leader, is standing trial with Jakpa and another for allegedly causing financial loss to the state.

Last week, Jakpa who was being cross-examined, exploded in the courtroom alleging that the Attorney-General has been prodding him to falsify his testimony so Ato Forson could be jailed.

The allegation has since dominated public discourse.

The leaked tape has prompted calls for an independent investigation to verify its authenticity and to understand the context of the recorded conversation, which is said to involve a Supreme Court judge.

Legal experts and civil society groups have expressed alarm over the potential implications for the integrity of Ghana’s legal system. They emphasise the need for transparency and accountability, urging the authorities to address the issue promptly to maintain public trust in the judiciary.

In response to the leaked tape, Attorney General Godfred Dame has denied any misconduct, asserting that the conversation has been taken out of context.

He maintains that his actions have always been guided by legal principles and that he remains committed to ensuring a fair and just trial.

I will be dishonest if… – Jakpa protests alleged suggestion by A-G [Listen] https://www.adomonline.com/i-will-be-dishonest-if-jakpa-protests-alleged-suggestion-by-a-g-listen/ Tue, 28 May 2024 18:39:01 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2401291 The third accused person in the ongoing ambulance procurement trial, Richard Jakpa, says he would be considered a dishonest person if he testified in a manner allegedly suggested by Attorney-General, Godfred Yeboah Dame.

Jakpa’s protest is contained in an audio said to have been recorded secretly during a conversation allegedly among Jakpa, the Attorney-General, and a third person alleged to be a judge of the Supreme Court.

Jakpa, Ato Forson and another are standing trial for allegedly causing financial loss to the state in a procurement of ambulances for the state.

“That is the problem I’m having. Anytime you bring up this issue with Yoni Kulendi, when I went to Yoni Kulendi’s place, anytime you bring this issue, that is the problem I’m having. Because me, for example, I am in this case because I’m innocent and I’m going through an ordeal.”

“So I’m looking at another person, also going through the ordeal and through me because I know the truth and I decide not to say it because I want to help the AG make his case.”

Jakpa could be heard in the recording saying he could not help send an innocent man to jail.

This follows an alleged suggestion by the AG in the said secret tape prodding the accused person to aid him to secure conviction against the Minority Leader, Dr Cassiel Ato Forson.

The allegation, since Jakpa made it in open court, has since sparked controversy and raised questions about the integrity of the judicial process.

Mr Jakpa’s statement implied that the Attorney General allegedly attempted to pressurise him into giving false testimony to support the prosecution’s case against Dr. Ato Forson, who is the first accused in the trial.

Dr. Forson, a former Deputy Finance Minister and the current Minority Leader, is facing charges related to the procurement of faulty ambulances for Ghana and causing financial loss to the state.

The alleged secret tape, aired on Tuesday, May 28 by the opposition National Democratic Congress, has intensified scrutiny of the Attorney General’s alleged illegal conduct in the case.

Many have called for an independent investigation to determine the authenticity of the tape and the veracity of Jakpa’s claims.

Legal experts and civil society organisations have expressed concern over the potential implications for the rule of law and justice in Ghana, emphasising the need for transparency and accountability in the judicial system.

In response to the allegations, the Attorney-General has categorically denied any wrongdoing.

Godfred Yeboah Dame has asserted that Mr Jakpa’s claims are unfounded and that he never sought to influence Mr Jakpa’s testimony.

The Attorney General maintains that his actions have been in line with the law and that he is committed to ensuring a fair trial for all parties involved.

The Ningo Prampram Member of Parliament accused the Electoral Commission (EC) of deliberately reducing the number of registrants in his area during the ongoing limited voter registration exercise.

Sam George claimed EC’s deputy Commissioner in charge of Operations, Samuel Tetteh sent just three registration kits to his constituency in for the ongoing limited registration exercise.

He said the EC’s official in his area had confirmed this order came from above and told him to contact Mr. Tetteh for further details.

But Randy Abbey intervened with a series of questions to probe what steps Sam George had taken to verify the information he received.

Randy asked, “Did you call Samuel Tetteh?”

Sam George responded, “Why should I call him?”

Randy countered, “But that is not fair.”

Sam George retorted, “Did Samuel Tetteh call me and call the NPP candidate before sitting in Accra and deciding that we didn’t deserve three machines in Ningo Prampram?”

Randy questioned further, “What if the District Director was lying to you?”

Sam George replied, “What purpose does it serve?”

As the discussion continued, Randy suggested that his team contact the EC official for clarification on the allegation.

In a video posted by MyNewsGh, sourced from Meridian Port Services, about 12 GPHA security personnel forcibly entered the GIS office at MPS to detain two officers.

This follows a dispute that arose during routine vessel inspections.

The incident began when the GPHA security team insisted on searching the GIS female officers after they completed their duties on the vessel.

Inspector Benjamin Nketia objected, permitting only the search of their bags and refusing a personal search of the officers.

According to him, male personnel should not search female officers under any circumstances.

But GPHA security opposed the decision, resulting in an exchange of insults and physical harassment.

Following the confrontation on the vessel, the GPHA security officers went to the GIS office to arrest the officers for their non-compliance.

This attempt was met with strong resistance from the GIS officers, resulting in a violent altercation and the destruction of AICO II Boadu’s uniform.

The confrontation resulted in the tearing of the uniform belonging to an officer identified as AICO II Boadu.

Authorities have stated that the incident is currently under investigation.
