Speaking in an interview, the Upper West Regional Police Commander, DCOP Francis Yiribaare, described the incident as “very unfortunate” and disclosed that the clash escalated rapidly before police intervention.

“This is a very unfortunate situation here. We all have the information that just the latest part of the day yesterday, there was a clash of the family over a piece of land,” DCOP Yiribaare stated.

According to him, upon receiving information about the disturbance, the police immediately deployed their Quick Response Team (QRT) to the scene. However, by the time officers arrived, the situation had already deteriorated.

“On arrival, we discovered that the clash had gone too far, resulting in the death of one person right on the spot,” the Regional Commander revealed.

He further explained that another victim found unconscious at the scene was rushed to the hospital for urgent medical attention but later died, bringing the total number of fatalities from the incident to two.

“One that we met at the scene was also unconscious and was immediately rushed to the hospital, but unfortunately, he also passed,” he added.

DCOP Yiribaare noted that the police have since commenced full-scale investigations into the incident, with the cooperation of residents in the area.

“The general public has been very cooperative since we started. We have processed the crime scene, and the management team covered and processed every particle that mattered in the issue,” he said.

As part of ongoing investigations, the police have arrested two suspects in connection with the clash.

According to the Regional Commander, one suspect is currently receiving medical treatment under police guard, while another was arrested in the early hours of the morning and remains in police custody.

“So far, one person is on admission but under police guard as a suspect, under arrest. We have one other individual who was also arrested in the later part of the dawn of this morning and is also in detention,” DCOP Yiribaare confirmed.

He assured the public that the police are committed to ensuring justice is served.

“We are leaving no stone unturned in getting to the bottom of it and ensuring that justice takes its own course,” he stressed.

Beyond the investigations, the Regional Police Commander used the opportunity to appeal to the affected family and the general public to resolve land and other disputes through peaceful and lawful means.

“I want to encourage the family to continue to revert to the police for every other issue surrounding this land or to the locals for a very peaceful resolution of the matter,” he advised, adding that violence only undermines peace and development.

He emphasized that peaceful dispute resolution is key to maintaining stability in the Upper West Region.

“In matters like this, we should try to use peaceful means rather than violence. In so doing, we continue to preserve the peace and stability of the region and also create a safer community for development and social activities to go on,” DCOP Yiribaare said.

On the reopening of the affected road, which was temporarily closed for security and investigative purposes, the Regional Commander indicated that access would be restored once outstanding processes are completed.

“We are still processing a few issues and once that is done, we should be able to open it up,” he assured.

The convict, Bismark Owusu, was charged with causing unlawful harm and pleaded guilty to the offence.

Prosecuting, Inspector of Police Patrick Essien told the court, presided over by Charles Owusu Nsiah, that the complainant, Bright Akwasi Aboagye, was a student residing at Bompieso.

On October 7, at about 12:00 noon, the complainant was riding a tricycle at Bompieso with one Ishmael on board when he suddenly saw a group of illegal miners holding a young man, accusing him of stealing gold-bearing stones.

Inspector Essien said Owusu was among the group and that the suspected thief was being beaten when the complainant intervened and struck one of the attackers to stop the assault.

The prosecutor said the illegal miners, unhappy with the complainant’s intervention, warned him to leave the scene.

According to the prosecution, Owusu also took offence at the complainant’s conduct and picked a fight with him and Ishmael, but they were separated, and each went their separate ways.

Later that same day, the complainant and Ishmael were at a game centre when Owusu confronted them and warned that the earlier confrontation was not over.

Inspector Essien told the court that Owusu later attacked the complainant, slashing him twice on the back with a blade before fleeing when the victim started bleeding.

He said residents who rushed to the scene sent the complainant to the Bompieso Clinic for medical treatment, after which he reported the incident to the police.

Owusu was arrested the same day and handed over to the police for prosecution.

141 arrested in cybercrime operation in Tabora and Lashibi https://www.adomonline.com/141-arrested-in-cybercrime-operation-in-tabora-and-lashibi/ Sat, 27 Dec 2025 15:03:22 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2614204 Security agencies have arrested 141 suspected cybercrime operatives following a coordinated early-morning operation in parts of Accra.

The intelligence-led exercise was carried out on Saturday, December 27, 2025, by the Cyber Security Authority (CSA) in collaboration with the Ghana Police Service, National Security, and the Ghana Immigration Service.

The operation targeted organised cybercrime syndicates operating in Tabora and Lashibi and believed to be involved in a range of cyber-enabled financial crimes, including Mobile Money (MoMo) fraud and Business Email Compromise (BEC) scams.

In Tabora, 100 suspects were arrested, while an additional 41 were picked up in Lashibi, bringing the total number of arrests to 141. Preliminary investigations indicate that most of the suspects are Nigerian nationals.

Security operatives also seized items believed to have been used in the commission of the crimes, including 38 laptop computers and about 150 mobile phones.

The devices are currently undergoing forensic analysis to establish their exact use and linkages to reported cyber fraud cases.

In a related development, a Ghanaian landlord was arrested for allegedly harbouring about 100 of the suspects in his residence.

Authorities say landlords have a responsibility to ensure their properties are not used for criminal activities.

The Minister for Communication and Digitalization, Sam George confirmed the development in a post on Facebook.

He stated that the suspects are believed to be linked to several forms of cybercrime, including romance scams, sextortion, wire fraud, MoMo fraud, and Business Email Compromise schemes that target individuals and businesses.

Investigations are ongoing, and officials say suspects found culpable will be processed in line with Ghanaian law.

The Minister urged the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious digital activity, stressing that public cooperation remains critical in the fight against cybercrime.

While reiterating that Ghana remains open to foreigners engaged in legitimate business, he warned that individuals who exploit digital platforms to commit crimes will be tracked, arrested, and prosecuted decisively.

$120,000 stolen from Ghanaian financial institution by hackers – INTERPOL https://www.adomonline.com/120000-stolen-from-ghanaian-financial-institution-by-hackers-interpol/ Sat, 27 Dec 2025 08:55:25 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2614131 A Ghanaian financial institution was hit by a major ransomware attack that encrypted vast volumes of data and disrupted critical services, INTERPOL has disclosed.

The incident emerged during Operation Sentinel, a coordinated cybercrime crackdown led by INTERPOL between October 27 and November 27 across 19 African countries, targeting business email compromise, digital extortion and ransomware schemes.

According to INTERPOL, the ransomware attack on the Ghanaian institution (name withheld) resulted in the encryption of 100 terabytes of data and the theft of approximately USD 120,000, severely affecting operations and access to sensitive systems.

Ghanaian authorities responded with advanced malware analysis, which enabled investigators to identify the specific ransomware strain used in the attack. This led to the development of a decryption tool that successfully recovered nearly 30 terabytes of encrypted data, significantly reducing the damage caused.

INTERPOL said multiple suspects linked to the attack have been arrested, as investigations continue into the wider criminal network behind the breach.

The case formed part of a broader operation that led to 574 arrests across Africa and the recovery of about USD 3 million in illicit proceeds, with financial losses linked to the investigated cases estimated at more than USD 21 million.

Neal Jetton, INTERPOL’s Director of Cybercrime, warned of the increasing sophistication of cyberattacks across the continent, particularly against essential sectors such as finance and energy.

“The scale and sophistication of cyberattacks across Africa are accelerating, especially against critical sectors like finance and energy. The outcomes from Operation Sentinel reflect the commitment of African law enforcement agencies, working in close coordination with international partners. Their actions have successfully protected livelihoods, secured sensitive personal data and preserved critical infrastructure,” he said.

INTERPOL noted that Operation Sentinel was conducted under the African Joint Operation against Cybercrime and supported by international partners, including private sector cybersecurity firms that provided technical assistance in tracing malicious activity and freezing illicit financial assets.

The attack has renewed calls for stronger cybersecurity frameworks and continuous investment in digital resilience within Ghana’s financial system as cybercriminals increasingly target institutions holding large volumes of sensitive data.

The disturbance reportedly occurred around 9:30 a.m. when a group of masked men, said to be armed, entered the mosque area and attempted to force some individuals away from the premises ahead of Jummah prayers.

Initial information suggests that at least seven people sustained gunshot injuries during the incident.

They are reported to be receiving medical attention, while security agencies continue to assess the full extent of the casualties.

In response, a joint team of more than 20 police and military personnel was deployed to the area to restore calm and secure the mosque and its surroundings. Despite the tension, residents were seen preparing to proceed with Jummah prayers under heavy security presence.

The arrests were made at identified crime-prone locations including Kwame Nkrumah Circle, Nungua, Adabraka, Achimota, East Legon and the Railways enclave, following intelligence-led patrols and stop-and-search exercises by police personnel.

According to the Police Command, the special operation forms part of nationwide security measures rolled out during the festive season to prevent crime, ensure public safety and maintain law and order as residents gather for Christmas and end-of-year activities.

The Christmas Special Operations are conducted annually by the Ghana Police Service, typically involving intensified day and night patrols, snap checkpoints, swoops at known hideouts, and collaboration with other security agencies. The initiative is aimed at deterring armed robbery, drug trafficking, assault, and other criminal activities that often spike during festive periods.

Police sources indicated that the suspects were picked up for various offences, including possession of narcotic substances, robbery-related activities, unlawful assembly, and other forms of suspected criminal conduct.

Items retrieved during the operations are said to be undergoing examination as investigations continue.

The Command noted that the operations were deliberately focused on busy commercial hubs and high-traffic areas where criminal activities are more likely to occur during the holidays.

All suspects are currently in police custody assisting with investigations and will be processed in accordance with the law.

The Greater Accra Regional Police Command has reiterated its commitment to sustaining the Christmas Special Operations throughout the festive season and into the New Year, urging the public to remain vigilant and cooperate with law enforcement to help keep communities safe.

Ghana-Nigeria cyber-fraud network dupes over 200 victims of $400,000 https://www.adomonline.com/ghana-nigeria-cyber-fraud-network-dupes-over-200-victims-of-400000/ Fri, 26 Dec 2025 18:23:07 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2614059 Ghanaian authorities have dismantled a major cyber-fraud network operating across Ghana and Nigeria that defrauded more than 200 victims of over $400,000, as part of a continent-wide cybercrime operation coordinated by INTERPOL.

The network was uncovered during Operation Sentinel, which focused on business email compromise, digital extortion and ransomware activities identified as growing threats in INTERPOL’s 2025 Africa Cyber Threat Assessment Report.

Investigators said the syndicate used professionally designed websites and mobile applications to impersonate well-known fast-food brands, collecting online payments from unsuspecting customers but failing to deliver any orders.

INTERPOL confirmed that ten suspects were arrested in Ghana in connection with the fraud, while more than 100 digital devices were seized during coordinated raids. Authorities also took down 30 fraudulent servers used to facilitate the scam.

The Ghana-Nigeria network was among several high-impact cases uncovered during the operation, which resulted in 574 arrests across Africa, the takedown of over 6,000 malicious links and the decryption of six ransomware variants.

The crackdown revealed how cybercriminals are increasingly exploiting consumer trust in familiar brands to carry out large-scale fraud across borders, making detection and enforcement more complex.

Neal Jetton, INTERPOL’s Director of Cybercrime, said the operation demonstrated the value of international cooperation in tackling cyber-enabled crime.

INTERPOL said partnerships with private sector organisations played a critical role in tracing IP addresses, disrupting criminal infrastructure and assisting authorities to freeze illicit financial assets linked to the fraud.

Operation Sentinel was conducted under the African Joint Operation against Cybercrime and supported by funding from the United Kingdom’s Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office, as well as the European Union and the Council of Europe through the GLACY-e project.

The arrests come amid growing concern about cyber-related offences in Africa, with INTERPOL reporting that two-thirds of surveyed African countries now classify cybercrime as a medium to high proportion of all criminal activity.

Lawyer, two others face court over GH¢800k excavator fraud https://www.adomonline.com/lawyer-two-others-face-court-over-gh%c2%a2800k-excavator-fraud/ Fri, 26 Dec 2025 12:40:28 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2614020 A 34-year-old legal practitioner, Divine Effah-Dartey, has been hauled before an Accra Circuit Court over his alleged role in a fraudulent excavator deal that cost a businessman GH¢800,000.

Effah-Dartey is accused of aiding two other suspects to deceive a prospective buyer into paying GH¢800,000 as part payment for an excavator that was never lawfully owned by the sellers.

He has denied the charge of abetment of defrauding by false pretences and was granted police enquiry bail, following an application made by his father, retired naval officer Captain Nkrabeah Effah-Dartey.

Two other accused persons, Mawuli Awadzi Amenyo, a 49-year-old carpenter, and Jiang Tao, a warehouse manager, were also arraigned. Amenyo, who has pleaded not guilty to conspiracy and defrauding by false pretences, was granted bail in the sum of GH¢400,000 with two sureties, one to be justified.

Jiang Tao, charged with abetment, was admitted to police enquiry bail. A fourth suspect, Rishan Mahanta, is currently on the run and faces an additional charge of forgery.

Presiding judge Evelyn Asamoah adjourned the matter to January 23, 2026.

Presenting the facts, Detective Chief Inspector Abel Amanie said the complainant, Kofi Boateng, a businessman from Asankragwa in the Western Region, was seeking to acquire an excavator for commercial rental. In September 2025, a third party linked Boateng to Amenyo, who later introduced him to Mahanta, claiming he was an excavator importer based in Accra.

According to the prosecution, Boateng travelled to Accra on October 1, 2025, with associates to inspect the equipment. They were taken to the premises of Caitec Delta Limited, where Mahanta allegedly passed off several excavators as his property.

Jiang Tao was said to have released a key to enable Boateng test one of the machines, despite access to the area being restricted.

Satisfied after the inspection, Boateng agreed to purchase a Sany hydraulic excavator valued at GH¢1.7 million and paid GH¢800,000 upfront.

He was subsequently taken to a law firm at Kaneshie, where Effah-Dartey, introduced as Mahanta’s lawyer, allegedly received the cash, issued a receipt, and provided what prosecutors say was a forged Import Declaration Form purportedly from the Ghana Revenue Authority.

Ghana Travel Guide

The prosecution told the court that Amenyo later abandoned Boateng under the guise of arranging transportation for the excavator and went off communication. Further checks revealed that neither Amenyo nor Mahanta owned the equipment and that Mahanta was not a registered client of the law firm involved.

Amenyo was arrested on October 7, 2025, and allegedly admitted his involvement, claiming the money was handed over to Effah-Dartey. Investigations are ongoing as police continue efforts to locate Mahanta.

The case will resume in January 2026.

The incident occurred on Thursday, December 25, 2025, while the deceased was on his way to his farm.

Mr. Nyankomago was said to have gone to the farm with his wife to irrigate their crops. On their way, a chemical they were carrying reportedly spilled, prompting him to return home to get a replacement while his wife continued to the farm.

On his return, he encountered the suspect, who allegedly attacked the farmer with a locally manufactured firearm, shot him twice before slashing his throat, leading to his death.

When James failed to return to the farm and did not respond to repeated calls, his wife became alarmed and returned to look for him.

She found him lying motionless and immediately raised an alarm, drawing the attention of nearby residents, who then informed the police.

Police officers who later arrived at the scene discovered that the suspect had also died under circumstances that are not yet clear.

The bodies of both men were transported to the Anhwiaso Community Hospital mortuary for preservation and further investigation.

Some residents of Sehwi Atwima told Adom News that the suspect was believed to have mental health challenges and had been living in the bush for some time.

They claimed he had previously threatened farmers in the area and was suspected to have injured another person earlier the same day.

Police have launched investigations to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident and the deaths of both the victim and the suspect.

The conviction stems from a complaint lodged with the police on November 22, 2025, by a resident of Duase, with the support of the local Assembly Member, following an alleged assault on a nine-year-old girl. Police investigations later established that the suspect was the child’s mother.

According to the Ashanti Regional Police Command, the Kenyase District Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU), under the Tafo-Pankrono Division, handled the investigation and subsequently arraigned the accused before the court.

On Friday, December 23, 2025, the court, presided over by Festus Fovi Nukunu, found Ms Alakwe guilty of causing harm, contrary to Section 69 of the Criminal Offences Act, 1960 (Act 29).

She was sentenced to 15 months in prison with hard labour and fined GH¢6,000, with an additional 15-month custodial sentence to apply in default.

The convict failed to settle the fine and has since been transferred to the Kumasi Central Prisons to begin serving her sentence.

The court further ordered the Department of Social Welfare in Mamponteng to collaborate with the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection to ensure the welfare and reunification of the victim and the woman’s nine-year-old son with their family in Nigeria.

Meanwhile, the Ashanti Regional Police Command has commended the public for their cooperation in bringing the case to justice, while cautioning against acts of mob justice.

The police reiterated their commitment to safeguarding children and protecting vulnerable persons across the region.

Suspect arrested for theft incidents at 2025 Diaspora Summit in Accra https://www.adomonline.com/suspect-arrested-for-theft-incidents-at-2025-diaspora-summit-in-accra/ Tue, 23 Dec 2025 19:32:45 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2613576 The Accra Regional Police Command, working together with the Central Division Police Command, has announced the arrest of a suspect in connection with a series of theft incidents reported during the Diaspora Summit 2025 at the Accra International Conference Centre (AICC).

The summit, which attracted a large number of both international and local participants, recorded several cases of theft, prompting increased police surveillance and the deployment of an undercover operation at the venue.

According to the police, reports were received on Friday, December 19, 2025, from participants who complained about the theft of personal items, including mobile phones, iPads and credit cards.

In response, a covert security operation was immediately mounted to enhance protection and ensure the safety of attendees.

Briefing the media on Tuesday, December 23, the Accra Regional Head of Public Affairs, Superintendent Juliana Obeng, said the operation led to the identification and arrest of Regan Kwesi Egui-Addo, also known as Morgan Addo. She disclosed that the suspect was already on the police wanted list for similar theft-related offences within the Accra Central Police Division.

She explained that the suspect was found at the conference posing as a legitimate participant and wearing an official summit identification tag. However, upon questioning, he was unable to give a satisfactory account of his presence at the event, leading to his arrest. He was subsequently detained at the Ministries Police Station, where investigations are ongoing.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the suspect uses deceptive tactics to steal ATM cards. Police say he deliberately creates difficulties for victims at ATM points and then approaches them under the pretext of offering assistance, only to secretly swap their cards. Investigators have confirmed that the suspect withdrew unspecified sums of money from various ATM locations using cards obtained through this method.

Further investigations suggest that Egui-Addo targeted summit participants during breaks, taking advantage of moments when attendees were distracted to steal ATM cards and other valuables from bags and laptops.

Following his arrest, a search was conducted at the suspect’s residence at Ashaley-Botwe, where eight ATM cards belonging to different individuals were retrieved. The cards are currently being held as exhibits while police work with the relevant financial institutions to identify the rightful owners and support ongoing investigations.

Superintendent Juliana Obeng reassured the public of the police service’s commitment to protecting lives and property, especially during large public gatherings. She noted that adequate security would continue to be provided at public events, particularly as the festive season approaches.

She also urged members of the public to remain alert, keep personal belongings under close watch at all times and promptly report any suspicious behaviour to the police, stressing that public cooperation remains critical to preventing crime and ensuring public safety.

Police arrest 132 suspects in Accra during pre-festive swoops https://www.adomonline.com/police-arrest-132-suspects-in-accra-during-pre-festive-swoops/ Tue, 23 Dec 2025 19:28:49 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2613571 The Greater Accra Regional Police Command has confirmed the arrest of 132 individuals and the retrieval of several items, including motorcycles and suspected stolen property, following a series of special swoops and motor traffic operations across parts of the Accra Metropolis.

Addressing the media in Accra on Tuesday, the Regional Public Relations Officer, Superintendent Juliana Obeng, said the operations form part of ongoing efforts to curb crime during the Christmas season and beyond.

According to her, the command carried out targeted swoops in various jurisdictions, leading to the arrest of suspects and the recovery of exhibits such as narcotic substances, motorcycles and other items believed to be stolen.

She disclosed that one of the operations was conducted on Thursday, December 18, by officers from the Kotobabi District under the Nima Division. The exercise took place at Alojo, near the Merciful Hotel Annex, and resulted in the arrest of four suspects.

Superintendent Obeng further revealed that another swoop was carried out on Sunday, December 21, by personnel from the Railways District Command under the Accra Central Division. That operation targeted identified criminal hideouts and led to the arrest of 15 persons.

In addition, a motor traffic operation was conducted on Friday, December 19, within the East Legon area and the Airport Division. The exercise, aimed at reducing crime and road traffic accidents, led to the arrest of 36 motorbikes. Riders who committed minor offences were issued warning letters, while others are being processed for court.

She noted that similar operations were carried out in other parts of the metropolis as part of the command’s broader strategy to ensure a safe and crime-free festive season.

On the status of those arrested, Superintendent Obeng said all suspects are currently undergoing screening. Those found to have committed offences will be arraigned before court, while individuals not linked to criminal activity will be released.

She added that investigations are ongoing and that all recovered exhibits have been retained and, where necessary, will be forwarded to the Police Forensic Laboratory for further analysis.

Reaffirming the command’s commitment to public safety, Superintendent Obeng assured the public that the police remain resolute in maintaining law and order, combating drug trafficking and addressing other forms of criminal activity within the metropolis.

She also appealed to residents to continue supporting the police by providing timely and credible information to help keep Accra safe throughout the festive period and beyond.

Court dismisses pastor’s appeal against jail term https://www.adomonline.com/court-dismisses-pastors-appeal-against-jail-term/ Sat, 20 Dec 2025 18:07:37 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2612499 A Ghanaian pastor, Larry Odonkor has failed to set aside a two-year jail sentence against him in a case in which he has been accused of stealing.

This is the second time Pastor Odonkor’s appeal challenging his sentence has been dismissed, following his conviction in Madagascar in 2023.

Pastor Odonkor, formerly of the Lighthouse Chapel-Madagascar, had earlier been sentenced after being found guilty of fraudulently stealing and selling a vehicle belonging to the church, embezzling and dissipating the proceeds.

A warrant for his arrest has been issued and addressed to the two national heads of the country’s security agencies.

He is to be arrested and jailed anytime he enters Madagascar, either by air or by land.

Pastor Odonkor is one of six former pastors who dragged the church to court in Ghana in April 2021, accusing the church of illegality, unpaid SSNIT contributions, breach of contract, and maltreatment. However, a SSNIT report published by the Daily Graphic in August 2021 exonerated the church of the allegations.

In a separate case currently before the courts in Ghana, the Attorney-General is challenging a Circuit Court decision that acquitted Pastor Odonkor of the charge of stealing monies entrusted to him by the church to pay SSNIT contributions and GRA taxes.

The AG argues that the trial judge erred in holding that the pastor had indeed taken the monies but that the squandering of those monies was not dishonest.

According to the Prosecutor, Pastor Odonkor, as the Head Pastor of the LCI-Madagascar, masterminded the fraudulent sale of the car in Madagascar and appropriated the entire proceeds to himself.

Before leaving Madagascar for Accra, the prosecution said he instructed three people, including his assistants, to help him sell the car.

Following his conviction, he filed an appeal through a lawyer.

Appeal

In 2023, he engaged a lawyer, Johary Stephen Rasendrarivo, who represented him and presented arguments on his behalf during the two appeals, supported by a series of documents, but he lost both appeals.

Pastor Odonkor was notified by the Court of Appeal by DHL, and the first appeal was fixed for hearing on December 12, 2023, and then adjourned to January 30, 2024.

On both occasions, his lawyer, Mr Rasendrarivo, was present, but Pastor Odonkor was not.

The case was then adjourned to March 26, 2024, but both the pastor and his lawyer were absent.

Notice was then served on them for the next date, and the court issued an ultimatum requiring their presence.

Once again, both the lawyer and Pastor Odonkor were absent, despite being notified of the court dates.

The first appeal was eventually dismissed on May 7, 2024.

2nd Appeal

Pastor Odonkor’s lawyer immediately filed another appeal, and in August 2025, the lawyer served several documents on the prosecution to support the appeal.

These documents included WhatsApp chats between Pastor Odonkor and an LCI Madagascar officer, in which the pastor denied selling the car.

In Twimea, three individuals were taken into custody during a targeted swoop. They have been identified as: Godfred Yeboah, 28, Mahama Majeed 30 years and Emmanuel Osei 30 years.

According to police reports, one wrapper containing dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp (cannabis) was recovered at the scene.

The operation was subsequently extended to the nearby community of Aworano. However, all suspects at the identified location, described by authorities as a ghetto, allegedly fled before the police team’s arrival.

“Upon reaching Aworano, the suspects had been alerted and managed to escape. However, we took decisive action to disable the location used for these activities,” a police source stated.

The structure in Aworano was destroyed by the police team. Leftover pieces of a dried substance, also suspected to be Indian hemp, were collected from the site for evidential purposes.

All exhibits from both locations have been retained. The three arrested suspects remain in police custody, pending further investigation.

The operation is part of ongoing efforts by local law enforcement to combat drug trafficking and consumption in the region. Authorities have urged the public to continue providing timely information to aid in such initiatives.

“The family expected the police to work judiciously, but they told us they did not have a working vehicle to attend to the scene,” he said.

Residents also raised concerns about the delays, calling for improved police logistics to enhance emergency response in rural communities.

In a statement issued on Thursday, November 20, the Police confirmed that suspect Samuel Amadotor was picked up with support from the National Signals Bureau (NSB).

The arrest followed a complaint by Okatakye Boakye Danquah Ababio I, who alleged that the suspect had circulated fabricated and harmful claims about him.

According to investigators, Amadotor admitted to the act during questioning and claimed he was hired by one Chairman Michael Yeboah to publish the false material.

Police said Yeboah has since gone into hiding and is being pursued as part of what they believe may be a coordinated smear campaign.

Amadotor is currently in custody and is expected to be arraigned on Friday, November 21, 2025, as investigations continue.

Interpol arrests 62, seizes 136 stolen vehicles during West Africa operation https://www.adomonline.com/interpol-arrests-62-seizes-136-stolen-vehicles-during-west-africa-operation/ Thu, 20 Nov 2025 09:19:22 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2602095 A major INTERPOL-led border security operation across West Africa has resulted in dozens of arrests and the seizure of significant quantities of weapons, ammunition, explosives, drugs, fake medicines, and stolen vehicles.

Accra-based Citi News reported that the sweep, known as Operation Screen West Africa 2025, ran from July to October and involved security agencies from 12 countries, including Ghana.

The initiative aimed to reinforce border controls, disrupt criminal networks, and track individuals with links to terrorism.

Across land borders, airports, and seaports, officers used INTERPOL’s mobile systems to conduct more than 1.7 million checks — up from 1.3 million last year. These checks helped security personnel identify suspects, monitor illicit movements, and match individuals against global criminal databases.

The operation yielded several major breakthroughs. Multiple suspects with alleged ties to terrorist groups were arrested, and nearly 250 database hits connected individuals to various INTERPOL notices, including alerts related to terrorism.

In one of the most notable instances of cross-border cooperation, authorities in Burkina Faso arrested two men wanted in Côte d’Ivoire for a 2020 Al-Qaeda-linked attack that killed more than ten security officers. A third suspect with similar links was also detained, having previously appeared on INTERPOL’s radar during a 2024 operation in Togo.

Ghanaian officers made a significant humanitarian rescue when they intercepted and freed 21 victims of human trafficking. The victims had been trafficked from Nigeria and forced into fraudulent schemes.

INTERPOL’s Executive Director Police Services pro tempore, Cyril Gout, said the results demonstrate the power of international cooperation and real-time data-sharing in detecting terrorist movements and stopping criminal actors before they cause harm. He reiterated the organisation’s commitment to strengthening regional security and enhancing tools available to member states.

At ports and harbours, authorities uncovered vessels involved in suspicious maritime activities. Some ships were found to be conducting “dark operations,” including switching off tracking systems or repeatedly changing flags to evade monitoring.

Investigators also seized a wide array of contraband believed to be used to finance extremist or criminal networks. The items included caches of weapons and ammunition, explosives such as dynamite and detonators, stolen vehicles, large quantities of cannabis, counterfeit medicines including fake opioid painkillers, and forged currency and documents.

The operation brought together 12 countries: Benin, Burkina Faso, Cabo Verde, Côte d’Ivoire, The Gambia, Ghana, Liberia, Mauritania, Nigeria, Senegal, Sierra Leone, and Togo.

It was supported by funding from the German Federal Foreign Office, the Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the United States Department of State’s Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs under projects I-CT Shield, WATA, and AGWE.

Police arrest 16 suspects in major crime crackdown in Tamale https://www.adomonline.com/police-arrest-16-suspects-in-major-crime-crackdown-in-tamale/ Thu, 20 Nov 2025 08:17:20 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2602082 The Police Special Operations Unit has arrested 16 suspects in a major crackdown on criminal activities in Tamale, following a surge in violent incidents targeting residents, students, and mobile money vendors. The operation was sanctioned by the Inspector General of Police (IGP).

Special Operations Commander, ASP Alhaji Jalil, who briefed the media, confirmed that the suspects, nine males and seven females, were rounded up during a raid on a hideout at Nyohini, a suburb of Tamale.

According to him, the arrests form part of a coordinated response to rising incidents of armed robbery, stabbings, break-ins, and drug-related offences in the Northern Regional capital.

“There have been violent crimes in recent times. We’ve recorded attacks on mobile money vendors, attacks on students of UDS, break-ins where laptops and belongings were taken, stabbings, and the sale of hard drugs like ‘red’ and tramadol,” ASP Jalil said.

He revealed that civil society groups and opinion leaders had petitioned the IGP over the worsening security situation, prompting the deployment of the Special Operations Unit to support the Regional Police Command.

“These people raised concerns and the IGP, in his wisdom, deployed the special operations team to augment the strength of the regional team to fight the menace,” he explained.

The commander said the team has been operating in the region for weeks, gathering intelligence and tracking criminal networks.

“We know where the criminals operate. We are in the Northern Region and our presence is felt,” he added.

ASP Jalil warned individuals involved in criminal activities that the police would pursue them relentlessly.

“We will track you down, no matter where you hide,” he said, urging the public to cooperate with investigators.

The suspects, he noted, will remain in police custody and will be processed for court.

ASP Jalil also expressed concern over the growing fear among residents, especially mobile money vendors who have begun closing early due to repeated attacks.

“It has come to light that many people are now living in fear. Mobile money vendors are closing early, others refusing to operate. We are sending a clear message: the IGP says no to crime, and the Special Operations Team says no to crime,” he stated.

He assured the public that the operation will continue until peace and normalcy are fully restored in Tamale.

Travellers, including soldiers robbed on Berekum–Sampa road https://www.adomonline.com/travellers-including-soldiers-robbed-on-berekumsampa-road/ Wed, 19 Nov 2025 06:50:32 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2601574 A fresh dawn robbery on the Berekum–Sampa stretch in the Bono Region has reignited fear among travellers, after armed men reportedly stopped vehicles, seized cash and valuables, and disrupted movement along the busy corridor.

The incident occurred in the early hours of Tuesday, November 18, 2025.

One of the victims told Adom News that even two uniformed military officers who unexpectedly drove into the scene were targeted, underscoring how dangerous the route has become.

This latest attack adds to a growing list of robberies that residents say are linked to the poor condition of the road.

A former legislator for the Jaman North Constituency, Mahama Afful, previously survived a similar ordeal on the same stretch.

In October, the Member of Parliament for Berekum West, Dickson Kyere Dua, toured the road with the police and assured residents that security barriers would be installed to deter robbers. Rango Construction Ltd was also expected to speed up work on the Berekum–Sampa corridor. However, the barriers are yet to be mounted, and road works continue to progress slowly.

With attacks recurring and travellers increasingly anxious, residents are calling for stronger police patrols and a faster pace of construction to restore safety along the route.

During the swoop, ten people were arrested—three suspected traffickers and seven victims, all Nigerian. Investigators say the victims, aged between 17 and 30, were lured with job offers but were forced into exploitative conditions and compelled to participate in cyber fraud activities.

EOCO is urging the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious behaviour through its official channels and hotlines. Landlords have also been advised to carefully screen foreign tenants to help prevent such criminal networks from operating.

The Office emphasised that anyone involved in cybercrime will face prosecution, reaffirming its commitment to dismantling organised crime networks and protecting vulnerable individuals.

Gov’t urged to pursue killers of Borae Ahenfie Chief and two others https://www.adomonline.com/govt-urged-to-pursue-killers-of-borae-ahenfie-chief-and-two-others/ Mon, 17 Nov 2025 07:53:41 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2600749 The Paramount Chief of Takpang Traditional Area in the Krachi Nchumuru District, Nana Akwasi Omankuminte II, has called on the government to take urgent action to bring to justice those responsible for the murder of the late Nana Meebo II, Chief of Borae Ahenfie.

The late chief, who was also the brother and linguist of Nana Omankuminte II, was killed alongside two others in the Oti Region. Their bodies were discovered on a farm on November 19, 2022.

The trio was laid to rest on Saturday, November 15, 2025, in a solemn ceremony observing Nchumuru customs.

Speaking at the funeral grounds, Nana Omankuminte II expressed frustration that 14 suspects arrested shortly after the killings were later released by the Krachi West District Court. He urged the government and relevant state institutions to fast-track investigations and bring the case before a High Court.

“The alleged perpetrators are still at large. Security agencies must locate them and ensure they are prosecuted in a higher court. If they are found guilty, they must face the law; if not, they should be freed,” he said, emphasizing that justice delayed is justice denied.

Mr. Solomon Kwame Kosoe, chairman of the funeral committee, also called on the government to intervene in the case, drawing comparisons with the state’s handling of Major Maxwell Mahama’s murder.

Mr. Atta Kwadwo, a family member of the late Nana Meebo II, expressed concern that while the perpetrators remain free, the bereaved children and widows are struggling to meet basic needs.

“The deceased’s children and wives are suffering. Their basic needs are a problem, meanwhile the alleged perpetrators have been released and are taking care of their families,” he said.

Tension mounts in Kwahu as Queen Mother reportedly goes missing [Audio] https://www.adomonline.com/tension-mounts-in-kwahu-as-queen-mother-reportedly-goes-missing-audio/ Mon, 17 Nov 2025 06:51:11 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2600697 Tension is mounting in Kwahu, Eastern Region, following the disappearance of the queen mother, Nana Adwoa Gyamfua III.

The Paramount Chief of the Kwahu Traditional Area, Daasebre Akuamoah Boateng III, confirmed the development on Adom FM’s morning news.

According to him, heavily armed police personnel stormed the palace at Abene, where the queen mother resides, amid indiscriminate gunfire around 4:30 a.m. on Monday, November 17, 2025.

Although the exact motive for the raid remains unclear, the chief revealed that several individuals were taken into custody. It was only after their removal that the queen mother’s absence was noticed, raising suspicions of a possible abduction.

“The people were arrested into vehicles and taken to an unknown location. I called the Kwahu Police Commander to ask what was happening and whether he sanctioned the operation, but he told me he doesn’t know the people nor is aware of any operation,” he narrated.

Daasebre Akuamoah Boateng III added that information he has gathered suggests that his predecessor, Daasebre Akuamoah Agyapong II—who was destooled in 2024 after a seven-year reign—led the raid.

Meanwhile, the police are yet to officially comment on the incident, and the queen mother’s whereabouts remain unknown.

Three remanded over Newmont Mines pistol theft https://www.adomonline.com/three-remanded-over-newmont-mines-pistol-theft/ Sat, 15 Nov 2025 09:05:04 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2600265 Three people have been remanded into police custody after appearing before the Fiapre Circuit Court in connection with the theft of a service pistol belonging to the security detail of the Ahafo Newmont Mines Company at Ntotroso–Kenyase.

The suspects were arraigned before Her Honour Mrs. Akua Adoma Addae on provisional charges of stealing and possession of stolen property.

The court granted police enquiry bail to the female suspect, Priscilla Awuni, pending further investigation.

The Bono Regional Police Command, through its Public Relations Officer, Chief Inspector Thomas Akeelah, confirmed the arrests and subsequent court proceedings.

The case traces back to January 13, 2025, when a Beretta service pistol with serial number GHGP/NHQ/CTD/H78688Z-13 was reported missing from the mining site.

According to the police, an intelligence-led operation by the National Counter-Terrorism Unit (CTU) resulted in the arrest of four suspects on November 12, 2025—almost ten months after the weapon disappeared.

The suspects are Joseph Blackige, 25, Kwabena Dodzi, 44, Adu Yeboah Abraham, 46 and Priscilla Awuni, 18.

The first arrests targeted Blackige and Awuni in Ntotroso. Although a search of Blackige’s room produced no immediate leads, further interrogation helped investigators trace the weapon’s movement.

Blackige later admitted that he handed the pistol to Dodzi, who then directed officers to the home of Abraham.

A search at Abraham’s residence uncovered six BB cartridges, a quantity of suspected gunpowder and GH₵ 28,844.00 in cash

These items have been kept as evidence as the investigation continues.

The remaining three; Blackige, Dodzi, and Abraham, were remanded into police custody and are expected to return to court on November 28, 2025.

According to NAIMOS, the suspects claimed connections with the Aowin Paramount Chief and were using their alleged authority to intimidate and extort money from galamsey operators. Their actions reportedly facilitated illegal mining and allowed them to operate with near impunity.

The task force apprehended the individuals along with their weapons and talismans. They are currently in custody and will be handed over to the Ghana Police Service for further investigation.

NAIMOS urged communities and stakeholders to cooperate in the fight against illegal mining, stressing that such activities harm both the environment and local populations.

Physician assistant in court for allegedly practicing as ‘Dr’ without license  https://www.adomonline.com/physician-assistant-in-court-for-allegedly-practicing-as-dr-without-license/ Wed, 12 Nov 2025 06:58:44 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2598903 The Ghana Medical and Dental Council has arraigned a 41-year-old businessman for allegedly posing as a medical doctor and practising medicine and dentistry without the required licence.

The accused, Ebenezer Sarpong, a trained Physician Assistant from a private university in Accra, is also alleged to have received payment for medical services, in violation of the Health Professions Regulatory Bodies Act, 2013 (Act 857).

Sarpong has pleaded not guilty to charges of willfully and falsely using the title “Dr.”, practising or professing to practise medicine or dentistry without registration, and receiving payment for such practice.

The court, presided over by Susana Eduful, granted him bail in the sum of GH₵50,000 with two sureties to be justified with landed property.

The case has been adjourned to December 10, 2025.

The prosecution, led by Chief Inspector Jonas Lawer, told the court that the complainant is the Administrative Manager in charge of Complaints and Investigations at the Medical and Dental Council.

Sarpong, a resident of Mamprobi, is said to be the owner of Good Care Medical Centre located at Swalaba near Bukom, Accra.

According to the prosecution, on August 14, 2025, during an undercover operation, the complainant found Sarpong practising medicine without authorisation at his facility.

Four days later, the Council reported the matter to the Regional Police Command, leading to his arrest.

Police officers reportedly found him consulting patients — some on admission and others at the Outpatient Department.

During investigations, Sarpong allegedly admitted in his caution statement that, although he was a trained Physician Assistant, he had no licence to practise medicine.

Further investigations confirmed that he had been using the title “Dr.” and receiving payment for medical services, in contravention of Act 857.

Refuse collector jailed 10 years for attempting to rob US diplomat with a toy gun https://www.adomonline.com/refuse-collector-jailed-10-years-for-attempting-to-rob-us-diplomat-with-a-toy-gun/ Tue, 11 Nov 2025 15:53:32 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2598779 A refuse collector who attempted to rob a diplomat of his iPhone 16 Pro Max and iPhone 8 mobile phones at Cantonments has been sentenced to 10 years imprisonment by an Accra Circuit Court.

The convict, Joshua Aminu, was charged with two counts of attempt to commit robbery. He pleaded guilty to the offences. Aminu committed the offence with a toy gun on September 26.

He pleaded for leniency, but the court, presided over by Mr Jojo Hagan, convicted him on his own plea and sentenced him to 10 years imprisonment on each count. The sentences are to run concurrently.

The court noted that although Aminu did not waste the court’s time by pleading guilty, the sentence was necessary given the prevalence of robbery in the country. He has 30 days to appeal the sentence.

The prosecution said the complainant was a scientist and diplomat with the United States Embassy, residing at Cantonments in Accra, while the convict lived around the Konkomba Market area.

On September 26, between 5:00 p.m. and 5:30 p.m., the complainant, Mr John Kiona, was taking a walk around the American Embassy enclave when Aminu confronted him and demanded that he hand over his valuables.

They included an iPhone 16 Pro Max, valued at GH¢18,500, and an iPhone 8, valued at GH¢16,500.

The complainant grabbed Aminu’s hand together with the gun and struggled with him until the gun broke, revealing it was a toy. Aminu then fled the scene.

The complainant alerted security personnel, leading to Aminu’s arrest. A search of his brown backpack revealed two kitchen knives. He was handed over to the police along with the broken toy gun and the knives.
