These include political unrest, environmental and economic possibilities. Statistically, Africa holds the third largest number of migrants across the world. In 2024, a record 304 million people lived in a country other than their country of birth, representing about 3.7 percent of the world’s 8.2 billion people, according to UN Population Division estimates. This is up from 275 million international migrants in 2020, who comprised 3.5 percent of the global population.

In Africa, migrant and asylum policies are mainly guided by the African Union’s revised policy framework for Africa 2018-2030. These policies emphasize safe, orderly, and dignified migration across nine thematic areas; labor migration. Border governance and human rights. While the AU promotes free movement of persons, actual implementation is fragmented.

Over the years, Europe has also implemented different policies to manage migration flow. This is because though Europe has always opened it doors to migrants, they believe one way to curb illegalities within migration is to ensure compliance with the policies. The migration and asylum policy of the European Union falls within the area of freedom, security and justice. EU member states have adopted increasingly restrictive and punitive asylum rules and are focusing on stopping people from moving, with devastating consequences.

From 2025, the Trump administration has also implemented a restrictive immigration policy focused on mass deportation and terminating humanitarian parole programs.

Civil societies over the years have engaged different unions to protect the right of migrants but there seems to be a never-ending road to proper immigration policies that seek the welfare of migrants.

In every part of the world, citizens occasionally protest the influx of people into their countries. This could stem from perception of inadequate jobs that serve both citizens and migrants. Others protest due to insecurities, while many also have various reasons for protesting.

The story from South Africa is one that breaks hearts and sends shivers down one’s spine. Almost every year, some citizens protest against migrants through mostly, inhuman ways.

The irony is that 80% of migrants in SA are from different African countries seeking greener pastures.

Economically, South Africa is among the top ten countries in Africa with a strong economy and it’s not rocket science that other Africans look to South Africa as a haven for financial freedom.

But what happens when dreams of betterment turn to tragedy? Who do you seek help from when your own continent rejects you?

What right channels can be used to seek redress in cases like this? Is it through Xenophobia?

The reoccurring violence on Africans in South Africa looks more serious than what the media even shares.

In 2015, South Africans violently killed many African migrants because they perceived their victims had taken their jobs, something that has never been proven.

After eleven years, the spirit of xenophobia has reemerged from the sea of violence. Many videos circulating online show South Africans assaulting Ghanaian migrants, while another person is seen at a government hospital evicting all foreigners seeking medical attention at the facility.

The question now is “Where must Africans go when Africa is rejecting them?”

Many years ago, South Africans sought asylum in different countries during the era of Apartheid. Other Africans stood firm to support them fight the system that victimized them.

And yet, here were are, Africans attacking their own; What changed? Are we no more one people?

Are there no migration policies that protect Africans on the African continent?

What is the essence of free movement and bilateral agreements in Africa if it does not offer basic protection?

What is the meaning of African Union when Africans are not united anyway? What would the fathers of the continent say if they were here? They must be turning in their graves as the united Africa they so fought for is being torn apart like this.

Abundant Life AG church shut down amid tensions over leadership dispute https://www.adomonline.com/abundant-life-ag-church-shut-down-amid-tensions-over-leadership-dispute/ Fri, 24 Apr 2026 19:00:00 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2655560 The Executive Presbytery (EP) of the Assemblies of God, Ghana has ordered the closure of the Abundant Life Assemblies of God Church at Bohyen following escalating tensions stemming from a prolonged leadership impasse.

The directive, initially announced on Sunday, April 19, 2026, was conveyed to the congregation through a statement read by Rev. Dr. Freeman Osei-Tete, Head of Operations at the church’s headquarters in Accra.

According to the EP Officers, the Bohyen assembly has been without a substantive pastor for the past three years since the retirement of Rev. Stephen Manu. Efforts by the national leadership to resolve the situation through dialogue and administrative interventions reportedly proved unsuccessful, as some members resisted the constitutional authority governing pastoral postings.

In justifying its decision, the EP cited provisions of the church’s constitution. Article 11 (2b) states that the Executive Presbytery “shall exercise general oversight responsibility over the Church,” while Article 12 (2a) mandates that Presbytery Officers “be responsible for the day-to-day administration of the Church.”

Additionally, Article 15 (2b) empowers the Executive Committee to “recommend appointments of ministers to any office or pastorate… and transfer ministers to any pastorate,” reinforcing the position that pastoral postings are not determined by local congregations.

The EP further referenced Article 31 (2), which states that “all rulings made by the Executive Presbytery Officers… shall be binding until otherwise decided by a resolution of the General Council,” underscoring the authority of its directive.

The leadership also accused a section of the congregation of unlawfully taking over the administration of the church, including managing finances and signing cheques without constitutional mandate.

Attempts to enforce the closure on April 19 were unsuccessful. Eyewitnesses reported that some members reacted angrily after the statement was read—shouting, making allegations, and verbally confronting church leaders—making it impossible to carry out the shutdown at the time.

Following the disruption, church leadership petitioned the Ghana Police Service for support.

Police officers later moved in and successfully closed the church premises around 9:00 a.m., securing the facility to prevent further disturbances and safeguard church property.

As part of the enforcement measures, the Executive Presbytery dissolved the church board, departments, committees, and all existing leadership structures. Security personnel have since been stationed at the premises, with a warning that anyone who attempts to cause disturbances or interfere with church property will be arrested.

Despite the developments, the EP maintains that the closure is temporary. The church is expected to reopen on Sunday, April 26, 2026, under new leadership approved by the national body.

The new administration will accommodate members willing to comply with the directives of the Executive Presbytery and operate within the framework of the church’s constitution.

The leadership reiterated that all Assemblies of God churches in Ghana—over 8,000 branches—fall under the authority of the national body, stressing that no individual or group has the right to assume control outside the established governance structure.

The intervention is seen as a decisive move to restore order and reaffirm constitutional authority within the church.

Tatale to get new fire station to boost emergency response https://www.adomonline.com/tatale-to-get-new-fire-station-to-boost-emergency-response/ Thu, 23 Apr 2026 15:13:44 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2655066 A new fire station is set to be constructed in Tatale in the Northern Region following a sod-cutting ceremony aimed at strengthening emergency response and public safety in the area.

The project, undertaken by government in collaboration with the Tatale-Sanguli District Assembly, is expected to help address rising fire incidents and reduce response times in the district.

The ceremony was attended by the Northern Regional Minister, Hon. John Ali Adolf, the Member of Parliament for Tatale-Sanguli, Hon. Ntebe Ayoo Williams, and the District Chief Executive, Hon. Mary Tagba.

Also present were traditional leaders and officers of the Ghana National Fire Service, led by the Northern Regional Fire Commander, ACFO I Joseph Koranteng.

Speaking at the event, the DCE highlighted the increasing fire outbreaks in the area and the challenges posed by delayed emergency response due to the absence of a local fire station.

The Regional Minister noted that the project forms part of efforts to decentralise emergency services and improve safety across communities, urging residents to support fire officers and adhere to safety practices.

The Member of Parliament, on his part, said the construction of the facility would not only enhance safety but also create employment opportunities for the local population, stressing the need for quality and timely completion of the project.

Traditional authorities also pledged land and community support to ensure the successful execution of the project.

When completed, the fire station is expected to house personnel and equipment of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), significantly reduce response times, and support public education on fire prevention in the district.

Hooligans terrorize Akyem Etwereso, residents call for urgent police intervention https://www.adomonline.com/hooligans-terrorize-akyem-etwereso-residents-call-for-urgent-police-intervention/ Thu, 23 Apr 2026 07:34:55 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2654863 Residents of Akyem Etwereso in the Akyemansa District of the Eastern Region are raising alarm over escalating violence in the community, with women and children said to be living in fear amid reports of gunfire and intimidation.

The affected residents, particularly women, are calling on the Inspector-General of Police to deploy additional security personnel to the area, accusing suspected hooligans of creating a climate of fear and insecurity.

According to them, the situation has disrupted daily life, with many residents afraid to go about their normal activities due to the threat of violence.

They link the unrest to an ongoing chieftaincy dispute involving the Odau Hene and the Okyenhene, alleging that individuals connected to the tensions have been terrorising the community.

The women say the situation has become unbearable, especially for schoolchildren and traders, who now feel unsafe moving within the area.

The principal elder of the Odau Aduana No. 1 family, Osenase Kwabena Aniagyei, has also appealed for immediate intervention, describing the situation as deeply worrying.

He noted that the activities of the suspected hooligans are not only threatening lives but also undermining peace and stability in the community.

Residents are therefore urging the police and other security agencies to act swiftly to restore calm and protect lives and property in Akyem Etwereso.

Paediatric Society urges Mahama to declare galamsey public health emergency https://www.adomonline.com/paediatric-society-urges-mahama-to-declare-galamsey-public-health-emergency/ Thu, 23 Apr 2026 07:23:45 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2654846 The Paediatric Society of Ghana has appealed to President John Dramani Mahama to treat illegal mining, widely known as galamsey, as a national public health and security emergency, warning of its devastating impact on children.

In a statement issued to mark Earth Day on April 22, 2026, the Society described galamsey as a “slow, silent assault on the Ghanaian child,” citing growing scientific evidence of its harmful effects on human health and the environment.

From a paediatric and public health perspective, the Society warned that illegal mining is contaminating water bodies and food systems with toxic heavy metals such as mercury and arsenic, exposing children to serious health risks.

It noted that prenatal exposure to mercury has been linked to irreversible brain damage, reduced IQ, and neurodevelopmental disorders, while polluted water sources are increasing the burden of infections, chronic diseases, and malnutrition among children.

The Society further stressed that environmental degradation caused by galamsey is worsening poverty, food insecurity, and displacement—conditions that disproportionately affect children and threaten their long-term wellbeing.

Drawing parallels with historical injustices, the group cautioned that while the transatlantic slave trade deprived generations of Africans of their future, galamsey risks doing the same through environmental destruction and loss of human potential.

The Paediatric Society is therefore calling on the President to elevate the fight against galamsey to a national emergency and lead a coordinated, science-driven response involving the health, environment, security, and education sectors.

It also urged government to enforce strict protection of water bodies and forest reserves, invest in child-focused environmental health monitoring systems, and prioritise early detection and treatment of conditions such as heavy metal toxicity.

Additionally, the Society called on Ghana to champion the issue globally, framing environmental destruction of this nature within the context of crimes against humanity.

The group pledged its readiness to support government with technical expertise, research, and advocacy to safeguard the health and future of Ghanaian children.

Govt moves to fix power outages as Jinapor engages ECG, NEDCo https://www.adomonline.com/govt-moves-to-fix-power-outages-as-jinapor-engages-ecg-nedco/ Thu, 23 Apr 2026 06:53:17 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2654833 The Minister for Energy and Green Transition, Samuel Abu Jinapor, has engaged key players in the power sector as part of efforts to address persistent outages in parts of the country.

The meeting brought together officials from the Electricity Company of Ghana and the Northern Electricity Distribution Company, alongside other stakeholders, to assess the current state of the electricity distribution system and review strategies to tackle isolated power disruptions.

According to the Minister, discussions focused on operational challenges within the distribution chain, including overloaded transformers and ageing infrastructure, which continue to affect reliable service delivery.

He noted that many of these challenges stem from years of underinvestment, despite rising electricity demand driven by urbanisation and expanding economic activity.

Mr. Jinapor indicated that government is prioritising investments to modernise and expand power infrastructure, strengthen system capacity, and improve overall reliability across the country.

He also directed ECG and NEDCo to intensify their response to outages, stressing the need for a coordinated and efficient approach to fault resolution.

The Minister emphasised that consumers deserve timely restoration of power and clear communication from service providers.

He assured the public that government is working with urgency to address remaining pockets of outages and improve electricity supply nationwide.

The support package was presented in Akim Oda, Eastern Region, and includes a deep freezer, ice chests, food items, a glass display case for her fried yam and fish business, and cash support to help her establish and sustain her livelihood.

The items were presented on behalf of the Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection, Dr Agnes Naa Momo Lartey, by the Head of the Domestic Violence Secretariat, who delivered a message of encouragement and assurance of continued government support for survivors of abuse.

The Minister reaffirmed the government’s commitment to helping survivors rebuild their lives, stressing that support does not end at rescue but extends to empowerment and independence. “We are intentional about helping survivors rebuild.

Providing practical support like this is a step towards restoring hope, dignity and economic independence,” she stated.

The intervention forms part of broader efforts by the Ministry to combine psychosocial care, legal aid and economic empowerment to support long-term recovery for survivors of abuse.

During the presentation, the Head of the Domestic Violence Secretariat, Madam Malonin Asibi, also engaged the family, highlighting the psychological and social consequences of abuse and urging stronger emotional support for Ms Amuzu.

Cocoa farmers warn bumper harvest threatened by payment delays https://www.adomonline.com/cocoa-farmers-warn-bumper-harvest-threatened-by-payment-delays/ Thu, 23 Apr 2026 06:30:31 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2654820 Cocoa farmers in Ghana say payment delays of up to six months are preventing them from harvesting a rain-boosted mid-crop, despite strong yields in the world’s ‌second-largest producer.

Farmers told Reuters this week that the delays have drained their operating funds, leaving them unable to hire labour or cover harvesting costs in Ghana, where the cocoa sector supports the livelihoods of some 800,000 farming families.

“I have cocoa on the trees that needs to be harvested, but there is no money to even do that,” said Ghana Cocoa Cooperatives Association Vice President Theophilus Tamakloe, adding it was similar for the group’s more than 340,000 members.

Tamakloe said he has 14 freshly harvested bags weighing 896 kg (nearly a metric ton) in his warehouse, which he has refused to hand over to buyers on credit.

“I will only release them to an LBC (Licensed Buying Company) that pays me instantly,” he said. There are currently about 65 LBCs operating in Ghana.

Farmer Abdulai Adoswin said he had already harvested 300 bags this season, up from 190 bags at the same point last year, but warned that further gains depended on prompt payment before the season closes in August or September.

REGULATOR SAYS IT IS DISBURSING FUNDS

Ghana’s cocoa regulator, COCOBOD, has said it has been disbursing funds to LBCs to clear outstanding payments dating back to ‌November. But two LBC sources said they are still waiting for it to pay for beans already supplied and sold.

“My understanding is that COCOBOD has sold all the beans supplied for the 2025/26 season,” said one of the sources, who asked not to be named due to the sensitivity of the matter.

“We are still waiting to be paid and I really don’t know what is going on anymore,” the source added.

COCOBOD did not immediately respond to a request for comment on the status of funds, saying it would look into the matter.

Ghana has been grappling with a protracted liquidity crisis that has dogged the sector for months, forcing the government to slash the fixed price paid to farmers for their beans.

The West African country has also suffered declining cocoa output in recent seasons due to disease, ageing trees, illegal mining and erratic weather.

Bank of Ghana data shows cocoa exports fell by about 20% year-on-year to 956.3 million cedis ($86 million) in February.

Although the improved mid-crop cocoa yields offer some relief, they come as prices for the chocolate ingredient have dropped by nearly 75% from record highs in late 2024.

Mahama engages Eastern chiefs on development agenda https://www.adomonline.com/mahama-engages-eastern-chiefs-on-development-agenda/ Thu, 23 Apr 2026 06:29:15 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2654808 President John Dramani Mahama has reaffirmed his government’s commitment to inclusive and balanced national development following a high-level engagement with the Eastern Regional House of Chiefs, led by Nene Sakite II.

During the courtesy call, the President outlined what he described as steady economic progress, citing improved macroeconomic stability, declining inflation, a strengthening currency, and Ghana’s ability to meet its debt obligations despite global economic pressures.

He also highlighted ongoing efforts to operationalise the University of Engineering and Agricultural Sciences (UEAS) at Bunso, alongside broader investments in infrastructure, healthcare, and local governance.

He noted that a key policy initiative is the uncapping of the District Assemblies Common Fund, which will allow Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies to retain up to 80 percent of their allocations to drive local development, including the rollout of 24-hour economy markets.

On healthcare, President Mahama assured the chiefs of government’s commitment to completing the Eastern Regional Hospital project and announced plans to construct three additional hospitals to expand access nationwide.

He further emphasised that flagship programmes such as Free Primary Health Care and the Ghana Medical Trust Fund, also known as MahamaCares, remain central to improving the wellbeing of citizens.

While acknowledging the progress made, the President stressed that youth unemployment remains a major concern, calling for accelerated private sector growth, industrialisation, and agricultural expansion to create sustainable jobs.

President Mahama expressed appreciation for the continued support of traditional authorities, noting that strong collaboration between government and chiefs is essential for achieving long-term national development.

Ghana identified as destination for stolen vehicles in U.S. car theft ring https://www.adomonline.com/ghana-identified-as-destination-for-stolen-vehicles-in-u-s-car-theft-ring/ Thu, 23 Apr 2026 06:21:55 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2654805 A sprawling international car theft syndicate with links to Ghana has been uncovered by U.S. authorities, raising fresh concerns about the country’s role as a destination market for stolen vehicles.

A 15-count indictment unsealed in a U.S. District Court in the District of Columbia has charged six individuals over their alleged involvement in a sophisticated operation that stole at least 20 vehicles across the Washington metropolitan area and Pennsylvania, before shipping them to buyers in the United States and Ghana.

Investigators say the case is only the tip of the iceberg.

Law enforcement agencies believe the network may be connected to the theft of more than 100 vehicles in Washington, D.C. alone, as well as over 30 others in Prince George’s County, Maryland, suggesting a much larger pipeline of stolen cars that could have ended up on Ghanaian roads.

Authorities also executed a search warrant at an automobile storage facility in Decatur, Georgia, believed to be a key link in the illicit trade’s supply chain.

According to prosecutors, the syndicate employed high-tech methods to steal vehicles — targeting mostly newer models such as Honda Civics, CRVs, and Acura TLXs and RDXs. Using electronic devices, the suspects allegedly reprogrammed vehicles to accept blank key fobs, effectively bypassing security systems.

Vehicle thefts were carried out using On-Board Diagnostics II devices that enable them to reprogram cars to accept previously blank key fobs. The above OBD2 device was recovered from a stolen vehicle in Pennsylvania in February 2025.

The stolen vehicles were then moved to storage locations, including a parking garage in Southeast Washington D.C., where they were disguised by swapping license plates and tampering with Vehicle Identification Numbers.

Investigators say the suspects also disabled GPS and Bluetooth systems to avoid detection before transporting the cars for sale, including shipments destined for Ghana.

Those charged include Jacob Hernandez, 29, of Los Angeles; Dustin Wetzel, 23, of Woodbridge, Virginia; James Young, 23, of Hyattsville, Maryland; Khobe David, 24, of Upper Marlboro, Maryland; and Chance Clark, 25, of Waldorf, Maryland. A sixth suspect remains at large, with details sealed by the court.

All six face conspiracy charges to possess, transport, and sell stolen motor vehicles.

Stolen cars linked to the ring on shipping containers in Baltimore destined for Ghana.

The case is being investigated by the Metropolitan Police Department, the FBI’s Washington Field Office, and the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Columbia, with support from the Prince George’s County Police Department.

While the case is being prosecuted in the United States, its Ghana connection is likely to draw attention from local authorities and industry stakeholders, particularly amid ongoing concerns about the influx of stolen vehicles into West African markets.

U.S. prosecutors emphasised that the indictment is only a formal accusation, and all defendants are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.

Officials release cause of death for teen found dead in singer D4vd’s trunk https://www.adomonline.com/officials-release-cause-of-death-for-teen-found-dead-in-singer-d4vds-trunk/ Thu, 23 Apr 2026 06:13:06 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2654762 After months of speculation and delays, officials have announced that the teen girl found in the trunk of singer D4vd’s car died from “multiple penetrating injuries”.

The Los Angeles County medical examiner’s office on Wednesday announced that they’d ruled Celeste Rivas Hernandez’s death a homicide, noting that the 14-year-old died of injuries caused by an undisclosed object or objects.

She was found dead in the front boot of a Tesla registered to TikTok star D4vd, 21, in September. The singer is facing several charges in her death, including murder.

D4vd, whose real name is David Anthony Burke, has pleaded not guilty. His attorneys say they will “vigorously defend his innocence”.

The musician’s defence team has said it believed the “actual evidence will show that David did not kill Celeste” and he was not the cause of her death.

“We will vigorously defend David’s innocence,” his attorneys, Blair Berk, Marilyn Bednarski and Regina Peter, said in a statement to the BBC.

Investigators at the medical examiner’s office had examined Rivas Hernandez’s body shortly after she was found in September and determined the cause and manner of death on 9 December, but were barred from releasing it publicly as police investigated the case.

“After several months, I am grateful this information can now be released, not only to the public, but also to the grieving family enduring loss,” Chief Medical Examiner Dr Odey Ukpo said in a statement.

“It is unfathomable they have had to wait this long to learn what happened to their daughter,” said Ukpo, who had criticised the decision to hold off on releasing their findings.

Rivas Hernandez’s family made their first public statement about her death this week, following Burke’s arraignment in court on Monday.

They thanked the police, prosecutors, and residents of their community, Lake Elsinore, for their support over the months.

“Celeste was a beautiful, strong girl who loved to sing and dance. Every Friday night was movie night, and we spent wonderful times together,” her parents, Jesus Rivas and Mercedes Martinez, said in a statement.

“We love her very much, and she always told us that she loved us. We miss her deeply. All we want is Justice for Celeste.”

Family attorney Patrick Steinfeld, in a statement to the BBC, said that the family was “devastated after hearing the gruesome details that came out in David Burke’s arraignment”.

At a news conference, Los Angeles District Attorney Nathan Hochman said the teen went to Burke’s home in the Hollywood Hills on 23 April 2025 and “she was never heard from again”.

“A parent’s nightmare is a situation where your daughter goes out one night and never comes back,” Hochman said.

Her parents had reported her missing in April, but it wasn’t until September that she was found dead. More than seven months passed after that before police arrested the Romantic Homicide and Here With Me singer in Los Angeles last week.

The singer, who was detained by police and has been held without bail since, largely retreated from public life after the teen’s body was found in his car last year. His world tour was cancelled and deals he had with brands were also reportedly axed.

David Anthony Burke, the singer known as D4vd, made his first court appearance on 20 April 2026 and pleaded not guilty to murder charges

Los Angeles Police Department Chief Jim McDonnell on Monday defended his agency’s handling of the case and why it took so long to make an arrest.

“I want to be clear about something. My duty is not to fuel speculation. It’s to deliver justice, and that requires patience and discipline on everybody’s part,” he said.

“This investigation was driven by a single purpose to secure justice for Celeste Rivas and for those who loved her. We had to be certain that nothing we did or said would ever jeopardise this case.”

He added that conditions of the teen’s body delayed determining her cause of death because a “substantial amount of time” had passed between her death and the discovery of her body, which made evidence degrade or disappear.

Hochman, too, noted issues in the case that delayed the filing of charges. Asked by the BBC about those issues, he outlined the difficulties in interviewing multiple people, some of whom were “cooperative” and some who weren’t, plus looking at all the evidence.

“It’s the type of case that you go to get maximum information,” he said, asking anyone with any additional information to come forward.

Several members of the team sustained injuries during the incident.

Frimpong was reportedly shot in the head during the attack and was rushed to the Bibiani Government Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

Kubala King deported to Ghana after Scotland land saga https://www.adomonline.com/kubala-king-deported-to-ghana-after-scotland-land-saga/ Wed, 22 Apr 2026 19:20:26 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2654753 A Ghanaian man who attracted international attention after occupying land in Scotland and declaring himself a king has been deported to Ghana following immigration breaches.

Kubala King, 36, who also calls himself “King Atehene,” was removed from the United Kingdom after authorities determined he had overstayed his visa, bringing an end to months of controversy surrounding his activities in the Scottish Borders.

Kubala King, together with his wife, “Queen Nandi” (known privately as Jean Gasho), and an associate, Kaura Taylor, had settled on a forested area in Jedburgh, claiming they were reclaiming territory they believed belonged to their ancestors.

Authorities issued an eviction notice in August 2025 after confirming that the group was occupying private land without authorisation.

Although they later moved to a nearby site owned by the Scottish Borders Council, enforcement action continued, eventually leading to immigration checks and his removal from the country.

Following his deportation, Kubala King arrived in Ghana and made bold declarations about his intentions.

“Ghana is about to change. A new wave from the Kingdom of Kubala. All the police are going to serve me, all the chiefs are going to bow before me. If you have a president, he has to come and kneel before me,” he said.

His remarks have since sparked widespread reactions, with many questioning the basis of his claims and the implications of his statements.

The visit was aimed at seeking the blessings and support of the Ga State for upcoming national sporting activities, while also reinforcing the role of traditional authorities in promoting unity and youth development through sports.

During the engagement, the Minister highlighted key upcoming events, including the Senior Athletics Championship and the African Armwrestling Championships, both scheduled to be hosted in Accra.

He noted that the events will not only showcase Ghana’s sporting talent but also boost the country’s image on the continental stage.

Hon. Adams also commended the Ga Mantse for his leadership and commitment to creating a peaceful environment that supports governance and youth empowerment.

In response, Nii Tackie Teiko Tsuru II underscored the importance of sports as a unifying force, stressing that it plays a critical role in national development and cultural promotion.

I’d love to marry more than one woman for peace of mind – Kwaisey Pee https://www.adomonline.com/id-love-to-marry-more-than-one-woman-for-peace-of-mind-kwaisey-pee/ Wed, 22 Apr 2026 19:16:03 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2654739 Highlife musician Kwaisey Pee has sparked conversation around relationships and marriage after openly expressing support for polygamy.

Speaking in an interview on Neat FM, the singer said he believes having more than one wife can provide emotional balance and reduce stress in relationships.

According to him, polygamy offers a way to manage challenges that may arise in a single relationship, arguing that “if one side gives trouble, the other will give peace.”

Kwaisey Pee explained that, in his view, the arrangement could help reduce heartbreak and the emotional strain often associated with romantic relationships, suggesting that multiple partners may create a form of stability.

However, he clarified that he is not currently practicing polygamy but may consider it in the future.

His comments have since stirred public debate, with discussions centred on cultural norms, personal beliefs, and modern perspectives on marriage.

While polygamy is culturally accepted in some Ghanaian communities, it remains a contested topic, particularly in urban settings where monogamy is more widely practiced.

The OSP must stay but must up their game – Dafeamekpor https://www.adomonline.com/the-osp-must-stay-but-must-up-their-game-dafeamekpor/ Wed, 22 Apr 2026 19:09:07 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2654724 The Member of Parliament for South Dayi and Majority Chief Whip, Rockson-Nelson Dafeamekpor, has said the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) should not be scrapped, but must improve its performance to be effective in the fight against corruption.

Speaking in an interview on JoyNews, Mr Dafeamekpor made it clear that his position is not a change of stance, but a call for reforms to strengthen the institution.

“I think it should stay… it should stay,” he said.

He said that the OSP must expand its presence across the country and act more proactively, especially at the regional and district levels.

“If they can up their game, if you can open the regional offices, if you can open district offices and be checking more frequently at those levels, it shouldn’t take the Auditor-General to move from Accra… for us to be hearing the leakages a year after they have occurred,” he stated.

According to him, delays in detecting financial irregularities defeat the purpose of setting up anti-corruption institutions.

“Then we haven’t done anything,” he added.

Mr Dafeamekpor said that prevention is critical in tackling corruption and warned that the current system is too reactive.

“Prevention is key to the anti-corruption fight. You are not preventing,” he said.

On the legal dispute involving the OSP and the Attorney-General, he acknowledged the office’s decision to file a notice of appeal and seek a stay of execution, describing it as within their rights.

“It’s their right to appeal,” he said, but added that the law is clear on the effect of such actions.

“A mere filing of a process does not stay the execution of a court order,” he explained.

He advised the OSP to take steps to ensure the matter is addressed quickly by the courts.

“What they should do is to apply for an abridgement of time to have that motion for stay quickly heard,” he said.

The Majority Chief Whip added that until a stay is granted, the Attorney-General is justified in proceeding with actions related to the case.

“But until it is stayed, I believe the Attorney-General will proceed,” he said.

He also dismissed suggestions of a major conflict between the two institutions, saying the situation has been overstated.

“I don’t see where the fight is. We are really creating a fight that does not exist,” he said.

GH₵100 donation at Maame Tiwaa funeral not from us – MUSIGA clarifies https://www.adomonline.com/gh%e2%82%b5100-donation-at-maame-tiwaa-funeral-not-from-us-musiga-clarifies/ Wed, 22 Apr 2026 15:51:57 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2654559 The leadership of the Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA) says it was not responsible for the supposed GH₵100 donation made at the funeral of gospel singer Maame Tiwaa of Asomafo fame a few weeks ago.

Speaking to Kwame Dadzie on Showbiz A-Z on Joy FM, the President of the Union, Bessa Simons, and Second Vice President, Abena Ruthy, clarified that MUSIGA was not represented at the funeral.

According to them, Maame Tiwaa, like her music partner Yaw Sarpong, was not a member of MUSIGA in good standing. They stressed that the donation made at the funeral did not come from MUSIGA but from a different group, which included one of MUSIGA’s key leaders.

“The representation that did the donation wasn’t MUSIGA. The thing is, a lot of us in the industry play multiple roles. For example, I am Second Vice President for MUSIGA, I am President for Women in Gospel Music. If I stand somewhere and someone is introducing me, the person might introduce me with both titles. So that is exactly what happened in this case.

The Chairperson for Ashanti Region MUSIGA, Augustina Addison, is the financial secretary or so for Legendary Musicians. Maame Tiwaa was part of the group so they went to do that asiedie for their member. Now the MC, seeing Madam Addison from MUSIGA, decided to introduce her as such and went ahead to say that the donation was from Legendary Musicians,” Abena Ruthy narrated.

She noted that some people relied on only a portion of a video that went viral on the internet in drawing conclusions.

Meanwhile, they indicated that MUSIGA, on humanitarian grounds, offers support in various ways to musicians who may not be members or are not in good standing.

They explained that, as musicians, they sometimes attend such funerals to show solidarity without necessarily being bound by the union’s welfare and insurance obligations.

“We get people coming to us. The last one that happened, a young man came to us and said his dad was dead and that he wanted MUSIGA to play a role in the funeral,” she said.

According to Bessa Simons, although the deceased was not in their records as a registered member, MUSIGA assisted in securing a state-assisted funeral.

They added that when a MUSIGA member passes, the union donates not less than GH₵5,000.

MUSIGA also has pension and insurance schemes in place to support members in times of need, death, or incapacitation.

Ghanaian man jailed in UK for raping multiple women https://www.adomonline.com/ghanaian-man-jailed-in-uk-for-raping-multiple-women/ Wed, 22 Apr 2026 14:01:07 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2654539 A serial sex offender who used his Mercedes as a hunting vehicle to “prowl” the streets of Liverpool city centre for vulnerable teenage girls on nights out has been jailed for 23 years after being unmasked as a predatory impostor who posed as a taxi driver.

Amponsah Thompson, a 29-year-old with leave to remain in the United Kingdom, was sentenced at Liverpool Crown Court today after a harrowing catalogue of offences against three young women, two of them aged just 18, between August 2024 and 2025.

The court heard that the Ghanaian national operated with chilling calculation, trawling the city’s nightlife districts in his white Mercedes, searching for lone, intoxicated teenagers before striking.

The first attack came in August 2024, when an 18-year-old woman left a night out shortly after 2 am after visiting popular bars including Heebie Jeebies and Lost in Seel Street. Heavily drunk and separated from her friends, she approached Thompson’s car near the former Alma de Cuba venue, now St Peter’s Tavern, and asked if he was a taxi driver.

Prosecutor David Polglase told the court that Thompson “lied and pretended that he was.” Believing she was being taken home, the teenager climbed into the vehicle. Instead, he drove her to his own address on Rocky Lane in Tuebrook, where he joined her in the back seat and touched her between her thighs.

She escaped further violation only by pretending her family was phoning and that she had shared her location with them. Thompson stopped and drove her home. She later insisted on paying him, a fatal mistake for her attacker—bank transfers allowed police to trace him directly.

When interviewed, Thompson denied pretending to be a taxi driver, claiming he had only stopped at his home to collect identification. He insisted there had been no physical contact and that he had never entered the back seat. He was released on bail.

But he did not stop. In December 2024, while still under investigation, Thompson prowled again. He found another 18-year-old woman, described by the prosecution as “extremely drunk and vulnerable,” slumped by a wall in the city centre after a night that had taken her to a Wetherspoon pub, McCooley’s and Soho.

Separated from her friends, she was seen being escorted back to his vehicle at around 3.30am. She later recalled “zoning in and out of sleep” and waking up at his flat, where she had been raped. Thompson drove her home the next day. He later claimed the sexual activity had been consensual, but a jury convicted him of one count of rape following a trial.

Throughout 2025, as detectives continued their work, Thompson preyed upon a third victim, raping her an estimated six or seven times. He also subjected her to violent assaults and threatened her with a knife. Mr Polglase told the court: “We say that this defendant is manipulative. He is a sexual predator. He has little or no regard for the boundaries of and consent for sex.”

The court heard that while Thompson had no previous convictions, he had been investigated in January 2024 over an allegation that he sexually assaulted a lap dancer, though the woman later withdrew her complaint and no charges were brought.

Defence barrister Anthony O’Donohoe urged the court to remember that his client was previously a man of good character with no criminal record, adding that his immigration status was “subject to review.” He asked for a sentence “as short as is consistent with your honour’s public duty.”

But Judge Brian Cummings KC was unmoved. Sentencing Thompson, who appeared via video link from HMP Liverpool wearing a white Puma t-shirt, the judge declared him a dangerous offender. “There would remain a significant risk to members of the public of serious harm at the point that you would have otherwise served a fixed term sentence,” he said. He added that deportation was a matter for the appropriate authority, making no order himself but leaving the door firmly open.

Thompson was jailed for 23 years, with an additional eight years on licence. He must serve two thirds of the 23-year term before becoming eligible for release by the Parole Board, and he will sign the sex offenders’ register for life. He had admitted sexual assault against his first victim and three counts of rape against the third.

Madonna offers reward for return of missing Coachella costume https://www.adomonline.com/madonna-offers-reward-for-return-of-missing-coachella-costume/ Wed, 22 Apr 2026 13:56:43 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2654556 Madonna has offered a reward for the return of the outfit she wore on stage at Coachella last weekend, after several of her vintage costume pieces went missing following the festival.

“These aren’t just clothes, they are part of my history,” the Queen of Pop wrote on Instagram.

Among them were the purple jacket, corset and dress she wore during her surprise guest appearance with Sabrina Carpenter at the California event on Friday night.

“I’m hoping and praying that some kind soul will find these items and reach out to my team,” Madonna wrote, adding that she was “offering a reward for their safe return”.

The outfits are particularly special to the singer because she wore the same boots, corset and jacket during her Coachella performance 20 years ago.

“It’s like a full-circle moment, very meaningful for me,” she told the crowd as an adoring Carpenter looked on.

Several other items from Madonna’s personal archive “from the same era” have also disappeared, she wrote.

In a statement, the Indio Police Department said clothes and jewellerywere last seen “on a golf cart” on the festival grounds at 01:30 local time on Saturday.

It added that there was “no evidence to suggest the bags were intentionally stolen”, but they may have fallen off the cart on the way to being loaded onto a bus.

During the performance, Madonna and Carpenter sang duets of Vogue and Like A Prayer.

Madonna also debuted a song from her forthcoming album Confessions II, a sequel to 2005’s Confessions On A Dancefloor, which is due to be released in July.

The exercise is being carried out by Mayekoo, a social impact crowdfunding platform, in collaboration with the Accra Metropolitan Assembly, with support from community stakeholders and volunteers.

The initiative has seen the removal of heaps of waste and debris that had accumulated along the shoreline over time, with organisers focusing on improving hygiene, clearing blocked areas, and making the beach safer for public use.

Speaking during an inspection of the ongoing exercise, the Mayor of Accra, Hon. Michael Kpakpo Allotey, said the clean-up is an initiative to address long-standing sanitation challenges in coastal communities.

He noted that sustained clean-up activities at Chorkor and other coastal areas are critical not only for public health but also for the long-term development of the city’s blue economy, including tourism and related investments.

The Mayor stressed that the Assembly remains committed to supporting practical interventions that deliver visible results, adding that clean beaches could open up economic opportunities for residents, particularly young people.

He assured that the AMA will continue to back such initiatives to ensure the cleanliness and usability of Accra’s beaches are maintained beyond one-off exercises.

The Chorkor beach clean-up is expected to continue in phases as stakeholders intensify efforts to restore the shoreline and promote environmental discipline within the community.

Check how much Medikal invested in BYK concert at Accra Sports Stadium [Video] https://www.adomonline.com/check-how-much-medikal-invested-in-byk-concert-at-accra-sports-stadium/ Wed, 22 Apr 2026 11:57:31 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2654396 Rapper Medikal has made a strong case for industry recognition while revealing the scale of investment behind his “Beyond Kontrol (BYK)” concert held at the Accra Sports Stadium in December 2025.

Speaking in an interview on Hitz FM’s Daybreak Hitz, the rapper disclosed that the production cost him about GH¢3 million, describing the event as one of the most ambitious projects of his career as an independent artiste.

According to Medikal, the BYK concert stands out as a defining moment in his journey, not only because of the scale of execution but also because he largely financed and drove the entire production himself at the national stadium.

He claimed the event pulled a crowd of over 40,000 people, filling the stadium to its capacity, with fans reportedly travelling from different parts of Ghana as well as neighbouring countries including Togo and Nigeria to witness the show.

Medikal argued that the turnout reflects his influence, consistency and relevance in the music space, for which he deserves greater acknowledgment.

Beyond the concert, he asserted that his contribution to Ghana’s music scene extends far beyond recording songs. He noted that he has continuously invested in shows, created platforms and helped push emerging artistes into the spotlight.

“I deserve my credit in this industry. I put in so much work bringing out songs and putting so many people on,” he said, maintaining that his efforts have not been fully appreciated.

His comments are part of a broader campaign push ahead of the Telecel Ghana Music Awards, where he is positioning himself strongly in the race for Artiste of the Year.

GUTA backs new GH¢550 container charge cap to ease port costs https://www.adomonline.com/guta-backs-new-gh%c2%a2550-container-charge-cap-to-ease-port-costs/ Wed, 22 Apr 2026 10:52:37 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2654356 The Ghana Union of Traders’ Associations (GUTA) has thrown its support behind a new directive by the Ghana Shippers’ Authority to cap the Container Administrative Charge at GH¢550 per 20-foot container (TEU), effective May 1, 2026.

The traders’ body says the move is a major step toward reducing the cost of doing business at Ghana’s ports, where importers and exporters have long complained about excessive and unjustified charges imposed by shipping lines and their agents.

According to GUTA, the Container Administrative Charge—introduced in the late 1980s—has outlived its original purpose but has continued to increase over the years, placing a heavy financial burden on traders. In 2024 alone, shippers reportedly paid about GH¢1.69 billion under the charge.

GUTA noted that the new cap follows extensive stakeholder consultations involving trade groups, freight forwarders and shipping agents under the framework of the Ghana Shippers’ Authority Act, 2024 (Act 1122).

The association believes the GH¢550 ceiling will bring much-needed relief, estimating annual savings of about GH¢802.5 million for businesses. It also welcomed the decision to denominate the charge in cedis rather than dollars, describing it as a move that will improve transparency and cost predictability.

While acknowledging the role of shipping agents, GUTA insisted there is no justification for the continuous increase in the charge, especially when its original basis no longer applies.

The association further described the directive as a starting point in broader efforts to eliminate unfair port fees and restore balance within Ghana’s trade environment.

ECG to tackle Mpohor power instability with 4km line https://www.adomonline.com/ecg-to-tackle-mpohor-power-instability-with-4km-line/ Tue, 21 Apr 2026 15:58:59 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2654116 Residents of Mpohor in the Western Region are expected to see improvements in electricity supply as the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) moves to resolve persistent outages in the area.

The intervention follows recent protests by youth in Mpohor Fiase, who took to the streets to demand urgent action over the erratic power situation affecting households and businesses.

In an interview with Adom News, ECG Western Regional Manager, Ing. Emmanuel J. Ofori, explained that the instability stems from an existing power arrangement that connects Mpohor to a supply line from Manso.

He noted that the current setup exposes the community to frequent disruptions, as faults occurring either on the main Manso line or within Mpohor itself often result in repeated outages.

To address the challenge, ECG has commenced the construction of a new 4-kilometre distribution line that will decouple Mpohor from the Manso feed.

According to Ing. Ofori, the project is expected to significantly improve reliability by isolating the town from faults on the external line, ensuring a more stable and consistent power supply.

He added that the works are expected to be completed by the end of the year, after which residents should experience a marked improvement in electricity service delivery.

‘My kids will work in my father’s companies, not in entertainment industry’ – Davido https://www.adomonline.com/my-kids-will-work-in-my-fathers-companies-not-in-entertainment-industry-davido/ Tue, 21 Apr 2026 15:29:43 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2654113 Afrobeat singer Davido has stated that he does not want any of his children to work in the entertainment industry.

Davido, who made the disclosure during a viral interview on The Breakfast Club, said he would prefer his children to work in his father, Deji Adeleke’s, companies.

The singer attributed the decision to his own past struggles before his breakthrough in the music industry, noting that working in his father’s businesses would make life easier for them.

Narrating how his father’s initial refusal to support his music career “killed his joy” before his breakthrough, Davido said he would still support any of his children who choose to pursue entertainment.

Interviewer: “Do you want your kids to be in this industry or would you prefer your kids to work with grandpa?”

Davido responded: “Omo, go and work with my dad. Every Christmas, my dad takes all the grandkids with him. And I can just see that, among all the things he has, including multiple private jets and all that, his happiness is seeing his grandchildren.

“And my father is single. So I just saw his happiness and I’m like, this is what life is all about. My dad not wanting me in the entertainment really killed my joy until he saw that this boy is really adamant about doing this. I wouldn’t want to do that to my kids as well. My daughter is already singing and dancing,” he said.

Abu Trica’s lawyer reveals next line of action after bail https://www.adomonline.com/abu-tricas-lawyer-reveals-next-line-of-action-after-bail/ Tue, 21 Apr 2026 13:20:17 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2654059 Counsel for Frederick Kumi, popularly known as Abu Trica, has outlined the next legal steps following the High Court’s decision to grant his client bail in the sum of GH¢30 million with two sureties to be justified.

According to the lawyer, Sani Abdul Salam, efforts are underway to obtain a certified true copy of the court’s ruling to enable them to commence the execution of the bail conditions as required by law.

He explained that the bail was granted to ensure the accused person’s availability in court as and when his extradition and related proceedings resume.

The lawyer indicated that the defence team is working to ensure full compliance with the court’s directives.

Abu Trica remains in custody despite the ruling, as he is still challenging efforts to extradite him over allegations linked to an $8 million romance scam and wire fraud case.

The next trial date is yet to be announced.

The bail decision comes at a time when the court is actively handling competing applications in the matter, including earlier proceedings in which his legal team sought to halt extradition.

The Gbese Circuit Court had previously dismissed an application to stop the extradition process and instead directed that he could be handed over to United States authorities, while granting him a limited 15-day window to challenge the ruling through a habeas corpus application.

According to him, his sound is tailored to a specific audience, particularly fans of the Asakaa genre, noting that what may not appeal to some listeners resonates strongly with his core supporters.

Responding to critics, Jay Bahd said they are entitled to their opinions, adding that it does not in any way diminish his impact among his fanbase.

He also pushed back on claims that he lacks airplay, stating that his music does receive support from sections of the media.

The decision marks a significant turn in proceedings after an earlier ruling in which the court dismissed an application by his legal team seeking to halt the extradition process.

Following that decision, the court directed that Abu Trica be handed over to United States authorities to commence extradition proceedings. However, he was granted a 15-day window to challenge the directive through a habeas corpus application at the High Court.

At a previous sitting, the court had scheduled April 27 to hear his bail application, as his lawyers pursued efforts to secure his release pending a motion to have him discharged.

The latest ruling now grants him temporary freedom under strict bail conditions while legal proceedings continue.

The case remains ongoing, as his legal team is expected to challenge aspects of the extradition process in the coming days.

The move follows earlier engagements between the Assembly and market leaders on the need to streamline toll collection, enhance cleanliness and restore order within the market after its reopening.

Addressing the collectors ahead of the rollout, the Mayor of Accra, Michael Kpakpo Allotey, urged them to discharge their duties with professionalism, discipline and confidence, stressing that the exercise is an official assignment aimed at strengthening the Assembly’s operations.

He explained that the GH¢2 toll would be collected from traders actively operating in the market, particularly those using tabletops and open sheds, noting that the system is based on daily business activity rather than advance payments.

The Mayor also clarified that the initiative is not intended to harass traders but to ensure compliance with lawful revenue measures and sustain essential services provided by the Assembly, including sanitation.

In a related remark, the AMA Coordinating Director, Douglas Annoful, said a supervision mechanism has been put in place to ensure smooth operations, adding that collectors would operate in teams rather than individually.

The initiative forms part of broader efforts by the Assembly to improve internally generated funds and maintain sanitation standards in one of Accra’s busiest trading hubs.

The sensitisation exercise brought together about 162 drivers, passengers and hawkers, targeting transport hubs which authorities say can unknowingly serve as transit points for illicit weapons.

Leading the engagement, Ms Rebecca Ahiamadzor educated participants on the dangers associated with illegal arms and the legal requirements governing firearm possession in Ghana.

She urged drivers to remain vigilant about the goods they transport, stressing that their role on the road places them in a strategic position to help detect and prevent the movement of illegal weapons.

She emphasised that strengthening community awareness is key to reducing gun-related crimes and ensuring public safety.

Participants welcomed the initiative, describing it as timely, and called for more frequent education campaigns as well as the introduction of confidential reporting channels to support the fight against illicit arms.

The exercise forms part of NACSA’s broader strategy to involve communities directly in efforts to curb gun violence and maintain safety across the country.

GNAT threatens strike over assault on teacher at Adenta school https://www.adomonline.com/gnat-threatens-strike-over-assault-on-teacher-at-adenta-school/ Mon, 20 Apr 2026 07:06:45 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2653423 The Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT) has warned that teachers in the Adenta Municipality will not return to the classroom when schools reopen if suspects involved in the assault of a teacher at Bethel Presby Junior High School are not arrested and prosecuted.

The warning follows an incident on April 8, 2026, in which a teacher, Mr Mohammed Abdela, was attacked by a group of young men after confronting a former student on the school premises.

According to GNAT, the former student, identified as Aaron Mensah, was found in a classroom during a mock examination allegedly going through pupils’ bags. When challenged by Mr Abdela, who was invigilating at the time, he refused to leave immediately and reportedly issued a threat before exiting the premises.

He later returned with a group of men on motorbikes and assaulted the teacher. The situation was brought under control after the intervention of another teacher, preventing further harm.

Mr Abdela subsequently reported the incident to the Ghana Police Service at the East Legon Police Station, where he was issued a medical form and formally lodged a complaint with the Criminal Investigations Department.

GNAT officials say that despite providing intelligence to support investigations, no arrests had been made as of April 17, raising concerns over what the association describes as police inaction.

The union’s Madina–Adenta–Abokobi Secretariat says the delay poses a serious threat to teachers’ safety and risks emboldening further attacks in schools.

GNAT has therefore called on the Adenta Municipal Directorate, the Adenta Municipal Assembly, and the East Legon Police Command to ensure the immediate arrest and prosecution of the suspects.

The association also referenced a broader pattern of violence against teachers, citing a recent court case involving students of Frafraha Senior High School who were fined for assaulting teachers.

GNAT insists it will not compromise on the safety of its members, warning that failure to act decisively could disrupt academic activities across the municipality.

Multiple plastic disposables destroyed in South Industrial Area warehouse fire https://www.adomonline.com/multiple-plastic-disposables-destroyed-in-south-industrial-area-warehouse-fire/ Mon, 20 Apr 2026 06:52:07 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2653412 A late-evening fire outbreak has partially destroyed a warehouse at the South Industrial Area in Accra, raising fresh concerns over fire safety compliance in commercial zones.

The incident occurred at a facility owned by Believe in God Company, which deals in plastic disposable materials. The fire is reported to have started around 6:10 p.m., affecting the upper floor of the one-storey warehouse.

Personnel from the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) were deployed from the Industrial Area Fire Station and arrived within minutes, supported by additional crews from the National Headquarters, Accra City, Trade Fair, and Madina. A turn-table ladder from Tema was also deployed to assist firefighting operations.

The blaze, intensified by the highly flammable nature of the stored materials, took several hours to bring under control. Firefighters managed to contain the fire at about 10:23 p.m. before fully extinguishing it shortly before midnight.

Although the upper section of the warehouse and some stored goods were destroyed, firefighters succeeded in preventing the fire from spreading to adjoining shops and nearby structures, saving significant portions of property.

No injuries or fatalities were recorded.

The cause of the fire remains unknown, with authorities indicating that investigations are underway.

The incident adds to growing concerns over recurring fire outbreaks in Accra’s commercial and industrial areas, where warehouses storing combustible materials are often at risk.

The GNFS has reiterated its call on business operators to strictly adhere to fire safety regulations, including proper storage practices and the installation of fire prevention systems, to prevent similar incidents.

Annoh-Dompreh commissions five water projects in Nsawam-Adoagyiri to improve access to clean water https://www.adomonline.com/annoh-dompreh-commissions-five-water-projects-in-nsawam-adoagyiri-to-improve-access-to-clean-water/ Mon, 20 Apr 2026 06:35:22 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2653406 The Member of Parliament for Nsawam-Adoagyiri, Frank Annoh-Dompreh, has commissioned five water projects across key communities as part of efforts to improve access to safe and reliable water supply.

The projects, located in Amanfro, Oparekrom, Djankrom East, Akwane Dobro, and Papito, are expected to ease the long-standing challenges residents face in accessing clean drinking water, particularly in underserved areas within the constituency.

Speaking during a tour of the beneficiary communities on Sunday, the MP described access to potable water as a fundamental necessity that must not be compromised. He noted that the provision of the facilities forms part of a broader development agenda aimed at improving living conditions and public health outcomes.

According to him, many residents—especially women and children—have over the years had to travel long distances in search of water, often relying on unsafe sources.

He expressed confidence that the newly commissioned projects would significantly reduce that burden while promoting improved hygiene and sanitation practices.

Mr. Annoh-Dompreh also urged community members to take ownership of the facilities by ensuring proper maintenance and safeguarding them against misuse. He stressed that the sustainability of the projects depends largely on the commitment of residents to preserve them for future generations.

He further commended traditional leaders, Assembly Members, and community stakeholders for their cooperation and support throughout the implementation process, noting that their involvement was critical to the successful completion of the projects.

Residents in the beneficiary communities welcomed the initiative, describing it as timely and impactful. Many expressed relief that the projects would bring an end to years of water scarcity and improve their daily lives.

The MP reaffirmed his commitment to continuing development efforts across the constituency, stating that improving access to essential services remains a top priority.

NAIMOS arrests 6 Chinese nationals in armed galamsey operation on Nyaase River https://www.adomonline.com/naimos-arrests-6-chinese-nationals-in-armed-galamsey-operation-on-nyaase-river/ Mon, 20 Apr 2026 06:27:31 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2653407 The National Anti-Illegal Mining Operations Secretariat (NAIMOS) has arrested six Chinese nationals for allegedly engaging in illegal mining along the Nyaase River, a tributary of the Tano River, at Kunsu Gyaenkontabuo in the Ahafo Ano South-West District of the Ashanti Region.

The early morning operation on Saturday, April 18, 2026, was intelligence-led and also uncovered weapons, ammunition, cash, and several items suspected to be linked to the illegal mining activity.

Officials say the seizure represents one of the most significant arrests of foreign nationals in recent enforcement actions.

NAIMOS indicated that the operation began at about 8:20 a.m. when a surprise team moved in on the site and first apprehended one Chinese national.

He was later led to a nearby residence, which resulted in the arrest of five additional suspects believed to be part of the same network.

At the mining site, the task force found extensive environmental destruction, with large portions of land degraded and river areas affected by illegal mining operations.

Equipment including excavators was disabled, while washing platforms, pumping machines, hoses, and other mining tools were destroyed or removed to prevent further use.

A search conducted at the suspects’ residence led to the recovery of two pump-action guns and 102 rounds of ammunition, alongside a Toyota Tacoma vehicle, identification documents, mobile phones, passports, and GH¢60,000 in cash concealed in a black polythene bag.

NAIMOS said the discovery confirmed that the operation extended beyond environmental damage into armed criminal activity.

All six suspects and the seized items have been transferred to the NAIMOS headquarters for further investigation, and the individuals have also been handed over to the Ghana Immigration Service for appropriate action.

The Secretariat reiterated that Ghanaian law prohibits foreigners from engaging in small-scale mining, especially illegal operations in protected water bodies and forest areas.

It added that enforcement operations will continue nationwide to protect the country’s natural resources.
