AshantiGold SC return to competitive football after match fixing ban

-

Former Ghana Premier League champions AshantiGold SC are set to return to competitive action as they gear up for the upcoming 2025/26 Access Bank Division One League season.

The Obuasi-based club, popularly known as the Miners, will compete in Zone Two of the Division One League after serving a suspension over their involvement in a match-fixing scandal.

The club was sanctioned following a controversial game against Inter Allies on the final day of the 2020/21 season, which led to their expulsion.

Now reinstated, AshantiGold will be aiming to rebuild and restore their status as one of Ghana’s football powerhouses.

Their return adds excitement to what is expected to be a fiercely competitive Zone Two campaign.

Their comeback also completes the Zone Two roster, with Police National FC securing the final spot after emerging winners of the Central Regional Division Two Middle League final on Sunday.
