Some people have been left injured and two motorbikes destroyed, after a violent confrontation between two youth groups in Wa. Security forces were later deployed to the Upper West Regional capital to prevent further unrest.

The unrest began on Sunday, June 7, 2026, when members of the two groups clashed at a nightclub. In the early hours of the following day, some young men believed to be linked to one of the groups moved to Nima, a youth base in the Jengbeyiri area of Wa, where they allegedly damaged property belonging to a member of the opposing group, deepening the hostility between the two sides.

The situation escalated later that day when two young men from Kambali arrived at Nima Camp on separate motorbikes. Eyewitnesses say they were attacked by individuals armed with cutlasses, sustaining serious injuries. Their motorbikes were subsequently set ablaze, reducing them to wreckage. Other persons caught up in the disturbance also suffered injuries.

Personnel from the police, military, and national security have since been deployed to the area to contain the situation and prevent further violence. Investigations are underway to establish what exactly caused the clash and identify those responsible.

The Upper West Regional Police Command has not yet issued an official statement on the incident.
