The Electricity Company of Ghana (Electricity Company of Ghana) has upgraded and replaced transformers at the Akwatia Substation in the Eastern Region as part of efforts to improve power supply and ensure stable electricity delivery to residents and businesses.
The upgrade involved replacing the existing 10/13 MVA transformer with a larger 20/26 MVA transformer to improve network reliability and reduce power interruptions in Akwatia and nearby communities.
Speaking to the media, ECG’s Eastern Regional General Manager, Ing. Emmanuel Appoe, said the project forms part of the company’s broader commitment to strengthening the power distribution network and meeting the growing electricity demand in the region.
According to him, the transformer replacement is expected to improve service quality and provide residents and businesses with a more reliable electricity supply.
He added that customers in Akwatia and surrounding areas are expected to benefit from improved voltage stability and fewer outages following the completion of the project.
Meanwhile, ECG’s General Manager for Accra Sub-Transmission and lead engineer on the project, Ing. Francis Kofi Atsyatsya, explained that the previous 10/13 MVA transformer had become overloaded, making the installation of an additional 20/26 MVA transformer necessary.
He noted that the project is part of a nationwide initiative aimed at improving electricity supply across the country.
Ing. Atsyatsya further disclosed that the installation works are expected to be completed within one week and assured customers of ECG’s commitment to delivering efficient and reliable power services while undertaking infrastructure improvement projects nationwide.
