The Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection, Cynthia Morrison, has disclosed that her ministry has not received any official report on the kidnapping menace in Sekondi-Takoradi.

Residents in Sekondi-Takoradi have been living in fear due to recent kidnappings that have rocked the town over the last few months.

Between August 2018 and January 2019, about seven kidnapping cases have been reported in the area.

Speaking on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem show with Captain Smart, however, Cynthia Morrison said there has not been any official report at the ministry since the incident begun.

“I learnt the incident begun in August 2018 and as at January 2019, I have still not received any official report on the kidnaps. I was away and called the office to confirm but was told there has been no report like that,” she explained.

She has, however, pledged her commitment to dealing with the menace now that she has been briefed on the issue.

“I learnt seven people have been kidnapped but I have officially received a detailed report on 3 of them from the police. I also contacted the families of the victims to get their side of the stories and will try all possible means to find the girls,” she promised.

She also promised to meet with the Inspector General of Police so that she can ask of the way forward afterwards but urged Ghanaians to be careful and sensitive in dealing with people they are not familiar with.
