Ghanaian rapper, Flowking Stone, has acknowledged the difficulty with which musicians from Kumasi and other regions aside from Accra struggle to reach limelight.

Speaking on Daybreak Hitz on Hitz FM, the rapper said creative people residing in the Ashanti Region go through hell to be recognized in the entertainment industry.

According to him, the personalities and media required to make a musician gain recognition are only based in Accra, making it tiring to move to and from the capital for promotional purposes.

“There is no place like Conference Centre in Kumasi. There are difficulties when you want to stage programmes and award schemes here. I’m not complaining [but it] because I want us to address the facts.”

Narrating how tiring music promotions could be, Flowking said “I had to be in Accra for a long time for promotions then I return to Kumasi. That has been my strategy so the Kumasi guys don’t feel like I have left them out; it makes it difficult.”

“The media coverage in Kumasi is smaller than that of Accra. You may get your story out but it wouldn’t be like you being in Accra. It becomes like a second hand information. Structures like the Fantasy Dome should be built in all regions to boost entertainment across,” he told Andy Dosty.

But Mark Okraku Mantey, Programmes Manager for Hitz FM, countered Flowking Stone’s statement, explaining that “the problem is not limited to Ghana alone; it is a worldwide thing because Production is always centralized and distribution is decentralized,” likening it to old days where Kumasi was known as a movie distribution hub.

According to Mark, in every country, there are places best known for what they produce hence musicians feeling sidelined can move to the capital to promote themselves if need be.

Flowking Stone is currently promoting his new album dubbed: Gifted II” album and it features some top Ghanaian and international musicians including Kwesi Arthur, Samini, Mr Eazi, Okyeame Kwame among others.
