Students of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) demonstrating against school authorities have clashed with the police Monday morning.

Media reports say the students started pelting the personnel of the operation ‘Calm Life’ unit of the Police Service with stones with the police responding by firing warning shots to disperse them.

He indicated that male students of the University hall, popularly referred to as Katanga, mounted road blocks on campus in protest against what they call oppression from school authorities.

A local reporter, Kwame Baffour Agyekum, noted that the students were marching to other halls of residence to prevent their colleagues from attending lectures.

The students set motor bikes belonging to security men in the school ablaze and vandalised other properties [of the university],” he added.

He said the police managed to drive the students away to secure properties of the university.
