The Northern Regional Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Chief Sofo Azorka, has advised those who would contest the regional executive positions to remain calm.

He said huge support base doesn’t determine the outcome of elections but delegates, adding that he will be vying for the National Vice chairmanship position of the party.

Chief Sofo Azorka disclosed this at the Northern Regional NDC office after the vetting of the chairmanship contestants in the Region.

According to him, he is much aware of the calibre of candidates he will be rubbing shoulders with but he is not perturbed as he is able to match them boot-for-boot.

“Supporters do not have the powers and qualities to determine the outcome of elections, theirs is to cheer you on and give you the hopes that the lines are falling into pleasant places, a hope which is most times ill”.

He added that in his 16 years experience as a regional executive of the party, he has come to better appreciate and understand the needs and desires of delegates and the basic rudiments of elections and leadership, making him the right candidate for the national vice Chairman position for the opposition NDC.

Speaking to Adom News, Chairman Azorka said it was a complete waste of time and resources for any candidate to depend solely on the reports of his or her supporters with the hope of winning the votes of delegates.

He said candidates should rather tour the various constituencies with formidable, viable and realistic policies, programs and strategies that will be largely accepted and welcomed by delegates. Policies that will to a large extent recapture power for the party in the next general elections.

Mr Azorka appealed to all the party supporters and all the contestants to remain calm because the party NDC needs unity to wrestle power from the governing NPP.

The opposition NDC is due to organize its annual delegates conference on the 7th of December, 2018, to elect its flagbearer and other national executives.
